Climate control unit. Dual zone climate control: instructions

03.04.2019

Recently, the number of motorists in megacities, small towns and villages around the world and, in particular, in our country has been increasing. And most of the motorists, watching how automotive specialists in their car services easily replace regular systems air conditioning on smart climate control, are set reasonable question. Is it possible to do the same in your garage yourself? Today this question has gained such popularity that we could not ignore it and not give a detailed answer to it. More on this later.

Differences between air conditioning and climate control

As everyone knows, an air conditioner is a device with enough simple device which cools the air. As a rule, it is controlled manually. That is, where you direct the air flow, it will blow there. cold air. To put it simply, more precisely, drawing conclusions, you risk getting sick due to hypothermia. With the use of climate control, the situation is diametrically opposite, and such a situation will not arise a priori.

Climate control consists of a compressor, an air conditioner heating unit and connecting hoses. This equipment is located under the hood due to its massiveness, and it is incorrect and inappropriate to install it in the cabin - this will significantly affect its comfort. The operation of the entire climate system is based on it.

In the passenger compartment there are various sensors that inform the driver about the state of the microclimate, transmitting data to the microprocessor. These are sensors for the intensity of solar heat, a temperature sensor inside the car and outside it. With their help, the system itself determines when it is necessary to turn on the heating, and at what moment to cool the air.

In addition, special catching elements can be installed that analyze the state of the environment. In the event that a certain level of pollution is exceeded, the ventilation and air conditioning system is automatically switched to recirculation mode, that is, air is taken from the passenger compartment.

Climate control - microprocessor system, which includes various programs with a variety of climatic conditions– from hot summer to Siberian winter. It is enough for the driver to make a choice in favor of the necessary program by setting the desired temperature range. Thus, once you set up the climate control, having recorded some kind of presets, you will forget about the control difficulties that you face when using air conditioners, regardless of the manufacturer, model and year of production.

Also air conditioner automatically distributes and directs air flows where they are really needed. And, as you probably already guessed, there will be no harm to your health, as well as passengers. Probably everyone knows how easy it is to catch a cold under a cold stream of air.

It won't allow that. This system controls not only the temperature of the air, but also its humidity. You will forget about stuffiness and annoying fogging of glasses. But there is also back side medals: climate control, due to its more complex device, is much more difficult to repair. This will require an expensive computer diagnostics car.

Materials for replacing air conditioning with climate control

In order to put climate control instead of air conditioning in your car, you will need the following items:

1. The casing of the stove, which is shaped exactly to fit the air conditioner assembly.

2. Climate control panel and its module.

3. Electronic fan speed controller and solar sensor.

4. Air duct for the electronic speed controller of the blowing fan.

5. Buttons for recirculation and eco. Buttons from former air conditioner cannot be used due to their four-pin structure, as you will need five-pin ones.

6. Under-torpedo wiring. Although there is one nuance here - you need to find wiring for a specific body type: sedan, hatchback or station wagon, as well as for the type of box: mechanics, automatic, variator. The year of manufacture of the car also plays a role here. Often do required choice All of these parameters are very difficult. You can get by with any wiring for climate control, taking the necessary connectors from it:

- a connector for the electronic speed controller of the stove;

Climate control connector;

Solar thermal sensor connector.

Features of replacing air conditioning with climate control

The first task that will stand before you will be the removal of a car torpedo. The second is the need to remove the air conditioner. It is mounted under the hood and in the cabin. After dismantling the air conditioner, perhaps the most troublesome stage of this operation begins - laying another wiring under the torpedo or inserting a climate control connector into the already laid native factory wiring.

So, you have in your hands a 22-pin air conditioner connector and a lot of wires sticking out into the car interior. The first step is to find among them the connectors in the panel area. Let's move on to connecting the connectors of the climatic equipment.

1. The red wire goes to the same color in the safety block.

2. Brown for a similar emergency button.

3. We leave it empty.

4. Black goes to the 14th contact of the safety block.

5. Red-blue on the on-board computer connector of the same color.

6. Brown-white - on the same in the red block of the servotronic or on the wire of the OBD diagnostic connector.

7. Brown-blue goes to the thermal sensor of solar radiation.

8. Brown-white on the identical connector of the air conditioning electric controller.

9. Add gray-yellow to the second contact of the recirculation button.

10. Gray-yellow wire to the identical recirculation button and to the gray-yellow wire of the eco button.

11. We leave it empty.

12. Black for the ignition.

13. Black and yellow - on the identical recirculation button.

14. Black and white - on the same ECO button, and bite off the old black and white wire from the connector, you will use it in the next step.

15. Black and white - to that very cut wire.

16. Brown purple - on the electronic unit management power unit. This wire is available in the motor braid, it only needs to be found in the round white connector near the battery.

17. Yellow-gray goes to the black wire of the heater button.

18. Blue-black - on the same connector electronic fan heater.

19. Blue - to the same one in the on-board computer chip.

20. Black and white - on the thermal sensor of solar radiation.

21. Grey-yellow - connect to the second wire of the ECO connector.

22. We leave it empty.

So, the air conditioner connector is connected, it remains to connect only the electronic fan of the stove. So, if you pay attention, there are already two wires connected to this connector during the installation of climate control. It remains to connect the same:

1. Red- safety block.

2. Brown– on a similar former electronic heater fan.

So, all the wires are connected, which means that you just have to assemble everything in the exact reverse order and enjoy a comfortable microclimate in the cabin of your car.

The presence of air conditioning in the car now will not surprise anyone - many foreign manufacturers supply machine coolers basic configuration. More expensive versions of the car are equipped with climate control systems that maintain the set air temperature in automatic mode. And this system is not latest development and has been used in vehicles for about 20 years. The purpose of the publication is to consider the principle of climate control and explain what is the difference between it and conventional air conditioning.

What is climate control?

The task of the car air conditioner is to supply the car interior with the right amount of air cooled to set temperature. The fence is carried out from the street, from inside the car or in a mixed mode (full or partial recirculation) at the choice of the driver. The cabin heater works similarly, driving the air flow through the radiator heated from the engine.

Important point! The heating and cooling system operates separately, independently of each other. This causes inconvenience for passengers - at times it becomes too stuffy or cool inside the car, the driver has to adjust the air temperature manually.

The difference between air conditioning and climate control is as follows: the first is a separate unit that performs two functions - cooling and dehumidification. Climate control is a system that combines several settings and is designed to automatically maintain a comfortable temperature inside the car. The system includes the following elements:

  • all air conditioner units - compressor, evaporator and condenser heat exchangers, control board;
  • radiator car stove, filled with hot antifreeze from the engine;
  • fan - supercharger;
  • a network of air ducts located under the front panel and diverging through the cabin;
  • air flow distribution dampers equipped with servo drives;
  • deflectors, knobs and temperature setting buttons;
  • own electronic control unit (controller);
  • air temperature sensors.

How does the air conditioner work?

The introduction of climate control made it possible to coordinate the operation of heating and air conditioning installations, to subordinate them to one control center. Plus, temperature limitation is implemented using internal and external sensors- Based on their readings, the controller regulates the intensity of cooling or heating.

In winter, the climate control in the car works as follows:

  1. The air flow entering through the inlet enters the air duct and the heat exchanger - the evaporator of the air conditioner. Upon contact with the cold fins of the radiator, condensation forms - the air is dried.
  2. Further, a system of dampers equipped with electric drives directs part of the flow to the heater radiator for heating.
  3. At the outlet of the heat exchanger, hot air is mixed with cold air to reach the set temperature. The proportions are regulated by the controller, which receives a signal from the corresponding sensor.
  4. The mixed flow moves through the air ducts into the passenger compartment, exiting through the front panel deflectors or at the feet of the passengers.

Note. In the process of automatic regulation, the electronic control unit is also guided by the readings of an external temperature sensor. If it is cold outside, the controller will send air to the heater, during the heat it will only pass through the cooler.

In summer, the processing of the air mass by the air conditioning system is simplified - the flow does not need to be heated in a heater and mixed. The control unit deals only with air conditioning - after cooling to the required temperature, it stops the compressor. The unit is switched on by a signal from the cabin sensor, which informs about the heating of the air by 3–5 °С.

in winter budget versions systems can send a barely warm stream directly to passengers when the car's engine has not had time to warm up. Therefore, at this stage, the driver has to intervene in the climate control and adjust the heating manually. The difference between cheaper and more expensive units is that the latter do not blow air into the face or feet of passengers until it is warm. In the first minutes of operation of the damper motor, air flows onto the windows.

If the driver sets the desired temperature (a range of 22–24 °С is considered comfortable) and activates the “Auto” mode, the controller itself decides on the intensity of heating (or cooling), the direction and power of the flows. In most cars, the temperature is regulated between 14-28 °C.

Varieties of systems

The standard (single-zone) version of the climatic installation does not solve issues related to the characteristics of organisms different people. The essence of the problem should be explained with an example: while maintaining 22 ° C in the cabin, the driver is comfortable, the passenger sitting next to him is stuffy, and it is cold in the back row of seats. IN spacious cars, where the third additional sofa is installed, the operation of climate control rear passengers is not felt.

The solution to this issue was more complex climate systems:

  • dual-zone climate control generates 2 air streams of different temperatures - for the driver and front passenger;
  • three-zone installation creates individual temperature conditions for the driver, the person sitting next to him and the passengers in the back row;
  • four-zone (otherwise - multi-zone) allows you to supply air with different parameters to all seats - front and rear.

Air supply varying degrees heating (or cooling) is organized by means of separate air ducts laid along the bottom and inside the side panels. The control unit monitors the temperature in each zone using separate sensors. To passengers rear seats could independently adjust the air parameters, a panel with buttons, a display and deflectors - flow distributors is installed between the front seats.

It is almost impossible to predict the desires of motorists, to foresee all possible situations and put them into the climate electronics program. Therefore, vehicle manufacturers put two buttons that allow you to turn on the air conditioning or climate control separately. Example: in winter you need to clean the fogged windows, but the controller “does not know” this and the cooler will not start. Then the driver turns off the climate control and forcibly activates the air conditioner with a separate button.

Features of use

The standard climate system is controlled by the following buttons:

  • Auto - start climate control;
  • A/C - forced inclusion air conditioner;
  • buttons or knobs for setting the desired temperature;
  • fan performance controller;
  • keys or handles for the distribution of air flows - on the glass, in the face or legs;
  • switching the air intake from outside or inside the machine (recirculation).

Using climate control is not difficult, but you should know some features. For example, when the system is on (after pressing the Auto button), the air conditioner will not start in winter. First you need to turn off automatic temperature maintenance, and then press the "A / C" key.

Temperature control is performed after pressing the Auto button. Moreover, the difference in setting the temperatures of a two- and multi-zone system a priori cannot be large, since the seats are located side by side. The electronics provides for a maximum difference of 4 °C. If the front passenger tries to add a temperature above the specified limit (for example, 5 ° C more than the driver has set), then the setting with driver's side will start to increase, but the difference will remain unchanged.

The efficiency of the air conditioning system depends on the number and location temperature sensors . The best combination is 2 meters per zone, top and bottom. In budget systems where 1 ceiling sensor is installed, the fan can supply cooler air, as the controller "sees" that the set temperature has already been reached.

To use the climate control system correctly, follow these simple guidelines:

  1. Don't ask too much low temperature air (less than 20 ° C) in summer. It is enough to get out of the car for 3-5 minutes and return to a cool cabin so as not to catch a cold.
  2. In winter cold car direct the airflow to the windshield and side glass. When the engine and coolant warm up, you can turn the deflector in your direction.
  3. Do not turn on the full recirculation mode for a long time - the air is saturated with carbon dioxide.
  4. In summer, in traffic jams, the engine heats up very much, which is facilitated by the load from the running air conditioner. Periodically turn off the cooler or set the maximum temperature to 24–25 °C.

Climate control service includes timely replacement filters and check technical condition conditioner. It is recommended to visit a car service every year to measure the freon pressure in the circuit and look for leaks.

Previously for freshness and pleasant atmosphere V car showroom V summer time answered the air conditioner, in the winter, the stove. But technological progress cannot be stopped, and today climate control is designed to meet the comfort in the car interior both in winter and in summer.

What is climate control, its types?

The time of the appearance of the car with the first climate control cannot be precisely specified. However, there is evidence of when the first sample of an automobile air conditioner was created. This event dates back to 1927. Of course, the first units were not as perfect as the current ones, but time goes forward, technologies change in better side, the level of professionalism of engineers and designers is constantly increasing exponentially, and now car air conditioner transformed into climate control system.

You can also find this abbreviation HVAC denoting climate control. It is deciphered from English as follows: Heating - heat supply, Ventilation - ventilation, Air Conditioning - air conditioning. Therefore, it can be seen from this that climate control is a system that consists of an air conditioner, heating and air filtration elements, as well as the necessary sensors. The climate control is actuated by an electronic control unit (ECU).

Basic distinctive feature climate control from its predecessor - , is temperature regime. The fact is that the air conditioner is designed only to cool the interior air when the climate control system maintains the desired temperature. With all this smart system takes into account not only the temperature outside the car, but also the heating of the interior by sunlight, which ensures the most comfortable stay of the driver and passengers in the car.

If the weather is cold outside, the climate control can operate in the heating - air conditioning mode, and if the air that comes from the street is polluted, the recirculation mode automatically turns on. The driver is given a choice of temperature conditions ranging from 16 to 30 degrees Celsius. The value for the choice of the driver is set by the regulator located on the panel. After that, the signal enters the control unit, bringing the system into action. The level of heating of the cabin air is regulated by a central damper, due to which hot and cold air flows are mixed. In the event of a certain need, the air conditioner may turn on, helping to save the car's interior from excessive moisture and heat.

Varieties of climate control

We mentioned above that technological progress, like time, does not stand still. Therefore, today, thanks to the use smart electronics, it became possible to zone the climate in the car. Based on this, the climate control system is divided into the following types:

single zone climate control;

Dual zone climate control;

Three-zone climate control;

Four-zone climate control.

In a single zone system, only the driver can select the temperature. Dual zone climate control allows you to set different temperatures for driving position and the front passenger seat. The third and fourth types of climate control allow all passengers to remotely adjust the most comfortable temperature for each of them.

Components of climate control

The climate control system combines the climate control unit and a very important part - its system electronic control. In turn, the system climate control combines elements such as:

- air conditioning system;

Heating and ventilation system;

heater radiator;

Supply air fan;

An air conditioner consisting of an evaporator, a compressor, a receiver and a condenser.

The climate control is controlled by the corresponding electronic control system. The main elements of this system are input sensors, control units and actuators. Input sensors measure the relevant physical parameters and convert them into specific electrical signals. The input sensors include: air temperature sensors outside the car, outlet temperature sensors, evaporator temperature sensor, photodiodes monitoring the level of solar radiation and damper potentiometers. Output sensors and their number depends on the model and climate control system and design. The outlet temperature sensor can also be equipped with an additional sensor for the foot space.

The outlet temperature sensors in the dual-zone climate control system are located on the left and right, in the three-zone climate control, respectively, they are also located at the rear. Position air dampers, whether set or current at a certain moment, is fixed by the damper potentiometers. Thanks to temperature sensors for pressure and evaporator, the operation of the entire air conditioning system is ensured. The electronic control unit receives signals from the sensors, then they are considered by the embedded programs, forming a control action on the necessary control devices. Let's talk about them next.

The group of actuators includes damper drives and a fan motor. Their function is to create a predetermined temperature regime and maintain it. The shutters begin to operate by exposing them to an electrical or mechanical drive. Climate control systems have various types dampers:

- intake air damper;

Central damper;

Temperature control damper. It is applied in multi-regulation system;

Recirculation damper;

Damper for defrosting glass.

Operational features of the climate control device

To set the desired air temperature in the car, you just need to set desired indicator on display. All further manipulations by the computer program will be carried out independently. most effective work climate system there will be conditions under which internal recirculation is turned on ventilation system car. Thanks to this, the system is in standby mode, and does not constantly expend energy on heating or cooling the air. However, although these operations can be controlled automatically, do not rely entirely on technology. Overlapping the deflector and selecting the required direction for air flow, each driver must choose independently. Considering everything design features and have a certain amount of knowledge on operation, you can extend the life of your air conditioning system for many years. Remember the fact that you need to use air recirculation with your head.

An inactive cooling mode will cause all the windows of your car to fog up. The released moisture, which condenses during the respiratory process of passengers, will settle on the evaporator. After a certain period of time, it may appear bad smell inside the car. In hot weather, before turning on the climate control, you should ventilate the car by opening all the doors and windows of the car. This will equalize the temperature of the car with environment. Next, you need to set the operation of the device in recursive mode to the maximum possible power. At this point, all doors, windows and sunroof must be fully closed.

At first, the driver must wait outside. In order for the climate control to work correctly, avoid getting outside air while driving. Otherwise, this will lead to a change in the readings of the sensors. Each element can work both interacting with others and independently. During operation of the climate control system, the fuel consumption car. Be sure to take this into account when you activate the climate control.

climate control gear

As we mentioned earlier, the operation of the climate control system is responsible. This is a kind of think tank of the entire climate system. The decisions that the control unit makes are based on the readings of all available sensors and transducers. The correct functioning of the climate control also depends on the operation of the evaporator-heater unit. It allows you to reach the desired temperature value in the shortest possible time. The rate of heating or cooling is directly affected by the mode of air recirculation. The desired temperature is maintained by the automatic control unit. Neither the driver nor the passengers take any part in this process. Using the fan and damper positions, the electronic unit optimizes the direction, strength of the air flow and its temperature. Several airflow directions are possible:

- glass area;

The area at the feet;

- "glass / legs";

Passenger's face area;

- “legs / face”.

Care of the climate control system

Like all automotive devices, the formation and maintenance of the microclimate in the car interior requires systematic care. Timely refueling of the air conditioner should be carried out along with flushing its radiator. The frequency of this operation should be at least once every six months. The most efficient functioning of the climate control system is achieved only if necessary rules care.

Advantages and disadvantages of car climate control

Main benefits climate control uses are as follows:

- comfortable conditions of movement in the cabin of the vehicle;

Determining the air temperature outside the car;

Full automation of the system, which does not distract the driver from the path;

The human body cannot become supercooled as a result of the operation of the climate control system.

This system, like all other automotive filling, has a number of shortcomings:

- high cost option;

High fuel consumption;

If a malfunction occurs in any one of the adjacent compartments, the entire system fails.

The climate control system is installed by default in most modern cars. Often they are representatives imported cars. Climate control is the undisputed leader in ensuring comfortable movement of the driver and passengers. Not far away is the hour when it will completely replace the car air conditioning system, which is still relevant today.

A number of modern systems that are being developed by engineers large auto concerns, are designed to create the most comfortable conditions in the car interior - for example, to maintain the optimum air temperature. A striking example of such useful equipment is the climate control system.

Climate control: definition and purpose

This is a complex technique that includes an air conditioner, temperature and humidity sensors, a heater, an electronic control unit and a filtration system. The main purpose of the climate system is to create a microclimate in the passenger compartment that is comfortable for the driver and passengers, as well as to maintain it. The following conditions are recognized as suitable for a person: temperature - from +22 to + 25 ° С, humidity - from 65 to 80%. Climate control analyzes these indicators, and then heats the air in the cabin (using the stove) or, on the contrary, reduces its temperature (thanks to the air conditioner).

Can an air conditioning system be added?

Almost in all modern cars climate control included basic equipment. This system is equipped vehicles different types- from cars and buses to self-propelled vehicles and special equipment.

You can also install the system additionally - as a rule, many motorists refuse air conditioning in its favor. However, it should be remembered that the installation of climate control is not possible on any car, because this requires a stove of a certain configuration that would allow mounting a servo drive and laying wiring under the “torpedo”.

Differences between climate control and air conditioning

  • Functional. Climate control is able to maintain a constant temperature in automatic mode. An ordinary air conditioner is designed only to cool the air, and to heat it, you need to turn on the stove. The principle of operation of the air conditioner is also different: first it takes in air, dries it, and then heats or cools it.

Besides, modern models climate systems provide adjustment that will not allow you to catch a cold. This is especially important if you often carry babies. Air conditioners do not have this capability.

  • Design. Climate control is a more complex system than air conditioning. Thanks to the sensors, the unit is able to analyze parameters such as temperature and humidity, and the most advanced models can also take into account other indicators: for example, the temperature outside the car, etc.
  • Control. The climate system is equipped with an electronic control unit. This gives a significant advantage, since the motorist needs to set up the system once - it will maintain a stable temperature regime on its own. In a car not equipped with climate control, the driver will have to constantly be distracted to adjust the stove and air conditioning.

How does the system work?

Despite the complexity of the mechanism, the principle of its operation is quite simple:

  • Sensors set the temperature outside the car and in its cabin.
  • The fan takes in air from outside and delivers it to the passenger compartment. Subsequently, the flow is divided into 2 parts: the first goes to the stove, the second goes to the air conditioner evaporator.
  • The air streams leaving the heat exchangers are mixed and enter the car interior thanks to a system of deflectors and air ducts.

You can adjust the temperature by changing the position of the central and additional curtains, which are located on the climate control panel.

How to use the system?

First you need to activate the system - this is the button ON/OFF(in some car models, instead of an inscription, an image of a broken circle is applied to it). To set the desired temperature, use the buttons or the rotary knob. In most installations, the adjustment step is 0.5 degrees. The marginal difference between zones usually does not exceed 5°. If comfortable temperature set, press the key AUTO– the system will support it automatically.

Special buttons will help to adjust the air direction, each of which corresponds to a certain mode: blowing legs, windshield or head and legs. These 3 modes are considered standard, but there are additional ones:

  • blowing warm air windshield, as well as the lower area of \u200b\u200bthe cabin.
  • Windshield blower to prevent condensation.
  • Supply of air to certain parts of the body and head, or combinations thereof.
  • Manual climate control.
  • Recycling.

To take into account all the nuances of operating the unit in your car, carefully study the technical documentation.

Operation of climate control in cold weather

in winter The air conditioner is mainly used for heating outside air. Under these conditions, the stove will be enough for you.

In a situation where zero temperature is combined with high humidity and complemented by snow and rain, you will need the full potential of the system - it should be switched to automatic mode. Air conditioning will help remove excess moisture.

Varieties of climate control
  • The most primitive type of system is single zone climate control. As the name implies, the equipment is able to maintain a microclimate in one zone, in which the driver and front passenger are located.
  • dual zoneclimate control monitors the indicators separately for the driver and the front passenger. This is convenient because everyone has different ideas about comfortable temperature.
  • Three- and four-zone equipment allows you to adjust the temperature "for yourself" as well as the rear passengers.

2-, 3- and 4-zone units are combined into one group - multi-zone climate control.

Pros and cons of the system

The benefits of climate control include:

  • Creating favorable conditions for people who are in the car. With such equipment, a trip to the office or a supermarket, and a long trip to another city or even a country will be as comfortable as possible.
  • The ability of the system to automatically maintain the set modes, that is, without the involvement of the driver.
  • A large number of adjustments.
  • Simple interface, as well as clear system management.

It is also important that the driver, who is in comfortable conditions (he does not freeze and he is not hot), can fully concentrate on driving. This increases the safety level of the vehicle operation.

However, motorists have identified a number of shortcomings:

  • The presence of climate control increases the cost of the car.
  • Maintenance and repair of equipment are expensive.
  • With the full use of the system, fuel consumption increases.
  • In the event of a breakdown, you will not be able to repair the system yourself.

You learned the difference between an air conditioner and a modern climate system, and analyzed the pros and cons of installing equipment. If you still choose to maximum comfort, then do not forget about the care of climate control: the system must be cleaned regularly. In this case, it will please you with long uninterrupted work.

Today, all types of vehicles are equipped with special devices providing a microclimate favorable for the driver and passengers in the cabin. This equipment is known in the world of cars under the name "climate control". Modern systems, creating "weather" in the car, are an electronic complex that controls the operation of the heater, fan, air conditioner and air supply and distribution systems.

Demonstration of the climate control in the car. IN this case but four-zone.

In the recent past, the entire climate in the cabin was created by the “stove” alone, the heating temperature of which and the boost force were manually regulated, and it was used only in winter time. In the summer, they managed to open windows and vents. Technical progress and the growth of the welfare of the population has made a significant contribution to the development of comfort systems in driving cars. If earlier only exclusive or prestigious premium models were equipped with climate control equipment, today such equipment has become standard for all types of cars.

However, depending on the class of cars, the climate system in the cabin has significant differences in the principle of operation, configuration and functionality. The current advanced climate systems in automobiles are highly automated. They include an electronic climate control unit, which, using sensors located in different places interior, controls and regulates the operation of the air conditioner, heater and filter elements.

hot and cold air are mixed to the desired temperature before entering the cabin

The intelligent system even takes into account the outside temperature and the level of solar radiation. By changing the direction of the air flow in different zones, the control system ensures an even distribution of heat and cold throughout the volume, preventing colds during a long stay in the cabin. The main advantage of such a complex system is that it does not immediately supply heated and cooled air from the engine and air conditioner to the cabin, but mixes them in the air ducts and distributes the resulting air mixture throughout the cabin.

Thus, maintaining the set air temperature in the cabin is ensured by regulating the flow of cooled or heated air, forming a mixture, and the volume entering the cabin. air mixture. This is achieved by using various air dampers in the air ducts, changing the position of which leads to a change in hot, cold and mixed air flow. The position of these dampers can be adjusted automatically from the climate control control unit according to sensor signals or manually.

Which is better - climate control or air conditioning?

Most novice car owners often do not distinguish between a conventional air conditioner control unit and a climate control control system. Thus, these concepts, which have fundamental differences. By studying the operation of climate control or air conditioning, you can see that an advanced intelligent climate system has a number of advantages over conventional air conditioning:

  • automatically adjusts and maintains set by the driver cabin temperature;
  • safety for the health of passengers is ensured by the selective direction of the air flow;
  • regulates not only temperature, but also humidity, preventing fogging of windows and eliminating stuffiness in the cabin;
  • possibility of inclusion additional features, for example, turning on air recirculation without taking in outside when it is smoky, or turning on a freshener that flavors the air.

When choosing climate control or air conditioning, it should be taken into account that the climate system is an expensive and complex system that provides inside the car and it is used almost regardless of the season. And the air conditioner is cheaper, simpler to install and operate, cools the interior faster, but is mainly used only in summer. Prolonged use can lead to colds.

Features of the climate control system

The principle of mixing various portions of the flow of cold and hot air, which is the basis for the operation of climate control and is used to ensure constant temperature in the cabin, allows designers to increase the functionality of the system to increase comfortable conditions being inside the car. In this way, it was completely organized autonomous system providing a microclimate in the cabin, regardless of external weather conditions. She can:

  • quickly dry the air in the cabin in rainy and cold weather to remove the fogging of the windows;
  • clean the cabin air from dust and smoke in a sultry and gassed city;
  • allow the body to gradually adapt to the coolness when landing in the car;
  • work without outside air intake.

The simplest climate control scheme is built on the principle of ensuring the same temperature throughout the cabin space. Such a scheme is called a single-zone microclimate system. There are more complex schemes 2, 3 and 4 zone climate control systems, in which control is provided for separate zones.

Dual zone climate control, its features

Dual zone climate control. The driver and front passenger can set their own temperature

Multi-zone climate control is a system for providing and maintaining different temperatures in zones - seats. The most common scheme among them is a system of two zone climate control. In this scheme, it is possible to set different temperatures in the area of the driver's seat and in the area of the front passenger. A feature of such a system is the presence of a limitation on the maximum temperature difference between adjacent control zones. It is usually small and does not exceed 60C. This means that if the driver has set himself to 30 degrees, then the passenger will not be able to set himself to less than 24 degrees.

Three-zone climate control - the two lucky ones in the front are joined by a third in the back seat

Three-zone option for providing a microclimate allows you to install various temperatures in three zones:

  • in the driver's area;
  • in the front passenger area;
  • in the rear seat area.

The four-zone version allows you to set a different temperature in each seat zone. Given that personal car rarely loaded in full, 3-zone and 4-zone control systems in most cases are not used in full and are redundant. In these climate control options, there are the same restrictions on the temperature gradient between adjacent zones as in dual-zone climate control. Multi-zone systems require more ducts, dampers and sensors controlled by a separate controller.

Climate control control unit, system operating modes

The complex climate control system is controlled from a fairly simple panel, which is equipped with intuitive controls. In order to understand their purpose, you do not even need to look into the car's operating instructions. There is a manual and automatic climate control mode. Using manual mode implies knowing all the intricacies of the operation of the system equipment. Incorrect operation of the controls will shorten the life of the equipment.

In this mode, you can manually adjust the fan speed, cooling and heating of air, air flow into the passenger compartment. Mainly manual mode used when you need to quickly heat or cool the air in the cabin. The automatic mode is used during a long trip. To do this, the driver only needs to turn on the system and set the required temperature. All procedures for adjusting dampers, distributing flows and their pressure are performed automatically by the system under the control of an electronic chip.

Many motorists do not use automatic mode for the sole reason that the fan makes a lot of noise. However, this is typical only for the initial stage of the system operation, when it intensively reaches the desired temperature and the fan operates at full load. Subsequently, when the control air temperature is reached, the system and the fan switch to the tracking mode, where the noise of the operating system is practically indistinguishable against the general noise background.

It must be borne in mind that in automatic mode, which is activated using the Auto button, the air conditioning pump continues to work regardless of the outside temperature. If it's cool outside and you want to save gas, you can switch to manual operation.
