Home Sweet Home

Surely many people know the feeling when you don’t just drive in a car, but practically live. At the same time, I want it to be as comfortable and cozy as my own home. And this is quite possible, as you are convinced as soon as you get into the new Honda Pilot

14 0

full size honda SUV Pilot debuted in 2001. Created on the same platform as the SUV that debuted a year earlier Acura MDX, he was the largest SUV in the history of the brand. The car was developed by the American branch Japanese company, initially it was intended only for the overseas market. But it turned out to be so successful that Honda dealers gradually began to sell it in other markets.

The interior is quite conservative. The landing is comfortable, semi-recumbent, almost like in a passenger car. Cup holders are available in unlimited quantities, as well as various "glove boxes" and pockets for storing luggage. On the back sofa there is a special pocket for storing electronic games, felt-tip pens, albums and other small things for children.

The manufacturer positions the Pilot as the only eight-seat car in its class. In fairness, it should be noted that this eight-seater can only be considered nominally. Sitting three of us on the very back sofa is uncomfortable. It is noteworthy that in just a few seconds the third row can be folded as if it did not exist at all. He hides completely unnoticed under the floor of a vast trunk. If you fold the second and third rows of seats, the volume of cargo space will be equal to 2.56 m³. When the second row is up, the car can hold up to 1.38 m³.

In the role of the main driving force, an impressive 3.5-liter V6 with 240 hp. with the famous Honda VTEC variable valve timing system. The engine, according to American tradition, is supplied exclusively with an “automatic”, in this case a 5-speed one. Its control stick, again in overseas style, is located to the right of the steering column.

Moreover, the suspension is also tuned in the American manner. Pilot is addressed to those drivers who prioritize comfort and not speed. The chassis design resembles a business class sedan (McPherson struts are installed in front, and rear suspension is a very complex multi-link design).

Heavy weight (more than two tons) does not allow this SUV to be graceful when cornering. As for the rest of the abilities, all-wheel drive allows the car to cope with bad weather and not very serious ditches and potholes on the road.

Pilot has completely independent suspensions all wheels, disc brakes on all wheels and automatically connected all-wheel drive VTM-4. The car is deprived of the usual visco-clutch. The process is electronically controlled. Under normal driving conditions, the Honda Pilot is a normal front wheel drive car, and it is to the front axle that all the torque from the engine is transmitted. The rear axle is automatically connected only in the event of slipping of the front: then the torque begins to "float" between the axles, determining which of them has a greater coefficient of adhesion with pavement. For heavier driving modes, a temporary blocking of the torque distribution in a 50/50 ratio is provided. The last function is activated by a button on the panel. By locking the clutch, you can increase the vehicle's patency, especially on viscous soils.

The VTM-4 system has several advantages over the traditional visco coupling. Firstly, it activates the 4x4 mode much faster. Secondly, off-road, the driver can use permanent all-wheel drive - when the engine rotates all four wheels all the time, regardless of whether the front wheels are slipping or not. In a word, Pilot feels great off-road. Confidence is added by short overhangs and a high landing of the body (clearance - 20.3 cm).

From point of view passive safety the Pilot cabin is equipped to an advanced level. Frontal airbags can be triggered in two algorithms: "light" or "strong" depending on the severity of the collision. The side airbag for the front passenger is also “thinking”. Special sensors evaluate the posture of the person in the chair, and the automation adjusts the opening of the "air bag" accordingly.

Production started in autumn 2004 upgraded versions Pilot with upgraded 3.5L V6 SOHC engine (244 hp, 309 Nm), new 5-speed automatic transmission and extended equipment: tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), VCA stabilization system, new audio systems, updated steering wheel design and a number of other changes.

Available in two main versions: LX and EX. As usual in Honda models, the primary equipment is quite rich. Standard elements are air conditioning, cruise control, CD player. The EX model is equipped with alloy wheels, automatic climate control, a modern stereo system with built-in steering column remote control and CD changer for six discs. The EX with leather interior (EX-L) also comes standard with satellite radio, a panoramic sunroof and heated seats; navigation system and DVD (options).

In 2009, the second generation of the SUV was released. world premiere took place at the Detroit International Motor Show in January 2008. The European premiere of the SUV was timed to coincide with the Moscow Motor Show. The project was developed at the Honda design studio in California, and production was established in Lincoln, Alabama.

Pilot 2009 looks more interesting than its predecessor. Changes affected the design, both appearance and interior. In general, the car began to look stricter. Salon Pilot 2009 is made in the same strict and unassuming style as the exterior. For passengers in the third row offers more space (added 2.5 cm in width and 7.5 in length). Ground clearance is 20 cm (0.5 cm more than the previous model).

The 2009 Honda Pilot is offered in four trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L and Touring. Any of these versions are available with both all-wheel drive and front-wheel drive. The LX package includes 17-inch steel wheels, an integrated trailer hitch, power windows, keyless entry, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, full power accessories, cruise control, 60/40 split second and third row seats, and CD / MP3 audio system with seven speakers and an additional audio connector.

The EX version adds fog lights, seventeen-inch alloy wheels, driver's seat with electric position adjustment, regular CD-changer, audio control buttons located on the steering wheel, three-zone automatic climate control and satellite radio. The EX-L features leather upholstery, heated front seats, a sunroof and a reversing camera built into the mirror. The top-of-the-line Touring includes a ten-speaker audio system, navigation system with voice recognition and built-in backup camera, Bluetooth, power tailgate and USB interface.

Additionally, the EX-L version can be equipped with a DVD multimedia system with ten speakers. DVD system is the only option on the Touring trim that comes with a ten-speaker stereo system as standard.

The 3.5-liter V6 engine was awarded only minor changes. Motor power increased to 257 hp, and the amount of torque up to 347 Nm. It is noteworthy that on American market power this motor is 250 hp The engine is paired with a five-speed automatic transmission. The car accelerates from zero to 100 km / h in 9.9 seconds. It was possible to reduce fuel consumption a little, thanks to the idle cylinder cut-off (VCM), which automatically turns off half of the V6 cylinders if they are not required.

By default, the Pilot is a front-wheel drive car, but any model can be equipped with an all-wheel drive system that automatically transfers the necessary power to the rear axle (up to 70 percent) when the front wheels slip. In addition, this system has a “blocking” function, using which the driver can manually transfer up to 70 percent of the torque to the rear axle, provided that the speed is less than 30 km / h.

Basic safety equipment includes disc brakes with anti-lock braking system, vehicle stability control, front seat airbags and a full-size inflatable curtain.

At the end of 2011 saw the light restyled version Pilot, which differs from its predecessor in the updated design of the front of the body and interior, changes in equipment. The radiator grille has now received horizontal stripes, the taillights have become a little different, the bumper and foglight framing have changed shape. Minor external changes affected the dimensions of the car - the length of the Honda Pilot increased by 5 mm.

Salon Honda Pilot is designed to meet all modern requirements family car: comfort, a wide range of options, excellent ergonomics and spaciousness. In the cabin, a “strict” center console catches the eye (in the previous version it was a cheerful turquoise color) and a large color display (available only in the maximum configuration) with navigation and a rear view camera. Thanks to these distinctive touches, the car began to look more solid, stricter and even a little more prestigious than the pre-styling version.

The petrol 6-cylinder 3.5 liter engine, as before, is equipped with a Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) system. In the restyled version, the designers worked even harder on efficiency - improved aerodynamics, introduced a set of measures to reduce friction of parts cylinder-piston group, including design changes and the use of oil with a reduced viscosity index (0W-20). This gave a noticeable result - fuel consumption in the urban cycle decreased by 0.5 liters - to 15.8 liters per 100 km / h. By the way, the Eco indicator on the instrument panel helps to drive economically - it lights up when the engine is running in the most “sparing” mode.

The updated version of the Honda Pilot received an all-wheel drive system with variable torque distribution VTM-4 (Variable Torque Management 4-Wheel Drive), which improved the crossover's cross-country ability.

Automobile Honda Pilot 2 combines many useful qualities. Thanks to eight comfortable seats and a large trunk, it will suit large families and travel enthusiasts. Honda Pilot is equipped with a powerful, 6-cylinder, V-shaped engine with a capacity of 249 hp, and some of the cylinders, when not needed, are switched off by electronics to save fuel and resources.

Permanent four-wheel drive with electronic interlock and a fairly large ground clearance of 20 cm will allow you to easily drive on country and country roads.

Honda Pilot 2 review:

The first generation model began to be produced in the USA in 2002, in 2008 the second generation car saw the light and began to be sold in Russia. And in 2011, it was updated in the form of a restyled version, which will be discussed in this review.

Pilot 2 is produced at the company's plant in the US, Alabama. Its assembly is quite high quality and does not raise questions.

The internal design of all elements is quite simple, materials medium quality finishes, hard plastic panels. The selector for switching automatic transmission modes is unusually located, which is not located on the center console, but on the front panel. Due to this, the surface near the central armrest is flat and its area is quite large. You can put documents, a tablet or other things that should be at hand on the road here.

The side rails and rubber base of the console will keep things from moving to the side when moving, so you can be sure that they will lie in place. The salon has enough other boxes and niches for things, as well as coasters. For example, above the glove box there is a recess with compartments for storing any small items. It is in plain sight, so access to things is quick and convenient.

Salon:

Interior of the crossover is spacious quite a lot of space inside. The front seats are comfortable and have lateral support. side mirrors large, there are parking sensors and a rear-view camera, so there are no problems with visibility. The only drawback is the lack of electric folding mirrors. The parking brake, as well as the automatic transmission lever, is removed from the console and is activated using the pedal.

The 2nd row of seats is spacious, and thanks to the three-zone climate control, you can set different temperatures for the driver, front and rear passengers. On the 3rd row of seats, if necessary, there is enough space for three adults passengers, but they will be cramped there, with comfort only two adults, teenagers or children can sit in these places.

With the seats folded down, a flat area is formed on which two adults can sleep comfortably. For the transport of goods in luggage compartment can be loaded at the same time washing machine, TV, small fridge and microwave. Trunk dimensions are really impressive and allow you to take on the road required amount of things.

It also easily fits a full-fledged baby stroller. Under the floor is a drawer with compartments for things. This means that most of the things that are constantly present in the car will lie in their places, and the luggage compartment itself will be empty and clean. To such a number of pluses, you can also add the glass of the tailgate, which can be opened separately from the door itself. This is very handy in tight spaces. The spare wheel is under the bottom and does not interfere.

Noise isolation in Pilot is very good, the sound of the road and city streets is not audible.

Engine:

Gas engine atmospheric. Its volume is 3.5 liters, and the power is 249 hp. As a result, the amount of the annual tax is relatively small. There is enough power to transport 700 kg in the body and a two-ton trailer without straining. The engine has VCM cylinder deactivation system which helps save fuel. 3 or 4 cylinders out of six are switched off in different occasions when their work is not needed.

For example, when moving uniformly at a constant speed or when there is no heavy load. Despite the presence of such a system, gasoline consumption is relatively large and amounts to about 15 liters in the city. This is quite normal, given the volume. And the recommended 92nd gasoline is economical in itself.

The power unit is paired with a 5-speed automatic transmission which is electronically controlled. The gears in it are switched almost without delay, there are modes for forced blocking differential- on the first, second and reverse gear.

On the road when driving in a straight line, the car behaves confidently and steadily. Overtaking is easy given more power engine and Good work automatic transmission. Handling is comparable to that of a sedan.

The steering wheel is soft and turns easily. If you enter turns at high speed, body roll is very noticeable. Therefore, it is better not to make sharp maneuvers and rebuilding at speed. The headlights are halogen, but they shine quite well. When driving at night along the highway, the road is clearly visible, there is no lack of illumination.

Suspension:

Suspension in Pilot 2 is quite soft. With an empty cabin and trunk, bumps are felt and shake on them, but at full or partial load they pass unnoticed and are absorbed by the suspension, the car drives more smoothly. Loading on the dynamics has almost no effect, with things in the trunk and passengers, the car feels the same as an empty one.

All wheel drive controlled by the VTM-4 system. When starting off, the maximum torque is obtained rear wheels, in case of a slippery surface, the moment is automatically redistributed between the wheels in such a way as to prevent slipping. During acceleration, the moment transmitted to the rear wheels gradually decreases and at a high constant speed is transmitted only to the front wheels.

When you turn on lock mode VTM-4 LOCK at speeds up to 10 km / h, the rear axle differential lock is simulated, the maximum torque is transmitted to the rear axle, and it is the same for each of the wheels. When the speed increases, the mode is automatically turned off.

Technically, the all-wheel drive device in Pilot 2 is hypoid gear with high strength gears. The axle shafts are connected through a multi-plate clutch - a clutch.
It is not recommended to turn on the blocking mode on even dry surfaces, in this case, the mechanism may fail. This mode is only for use on surfaces such as mud, snow, or hills where normal mode is difficult to use.

On easy and medium off-road the crossover behaves quite confidently thanks to a clearance of 20 cm and short overhang angles. Country and forest roads, small ruts with mud, shallow snowdrifts, ups and downs are overcome without problems. In some cases, it is better to disable the mode dynamic stabilization VSA for improved flotation. It is better not to drive into difficult places, there is a risk of getting stuck. For most trips to the country, nature and recreation, the cross-country ability of the car is enough.

Summary: brutal, masculine, large and powerful enough crossover for the city, trips to the country on weekends and travel.

like it: families, travelers, fishermen, hunters.

Don't like it: lovers of stylish and unusual look, modern interior design.

Video review of the Honda Pilot 2 car:

Test drive Honda Pilot 2013 off-road:

Front crash test 2011:

today model Honda row on Russian market represented by only two developments - a crossover that is recognizable and familiar on the roads and its "older brother" - Pilot. It was these two models that “survived in natural selection”: they were not included in the archive of developments due to high demand and popular love. Is there enough reason for such a clear commitment to the Honda brand?

The 8-seat 3.5-liter Pilot crossover with extended off-road functionality, having appeared on the Russian market, has become the ultimate dream of many motorists (family and professional Russians). It embodied the corporate approach of the Japanese corporation to the creation of modern crossovers:

  • practicality thought out to the smallest detail (drawers, pockets, coasters),
  • increasing reliability from generation to generation (manufacturer's warranty period - up to 5 years),
  • adaptability to harsh conditions (not only weather, we mean the harsh Russian realities - broken roads, low-quality fuel),
  • high dynamism in the class (despite the massiveness of the car),
  • technical equipment that is not inferior to the level of the main competitors, including a set of innovative solutions to improve the overall level of security,
  • the embodiment of global style trends in the exterior and interior,
  • compliance of consumer characteristics with the main wishes of car owners (acceptable fuel consumption - up to 12 liters per hundred kilometers, operating comfort, minimum investment for maximum vehicle operation).

The full-size Pilot Honda crossover appeared in Russia only with the release of the 2nd generation. Compatriots for a long time got used to the brutal-angular design Japanese car, but immediately appreciated the technical capabilities of the 2008 Honda Pilot (257 hp engine, 5 speed modes automatic transmission, all-wheel drive), economical consumption fuel (provided by work automatic system, which selects the mode of movement depending on road conditions) and the maximum inner space(3 rows of seats, the last two - fold "to the floor", increasing the volume of the trunk). The crossover was immediately classified as family cars- Honda Pilot was ideally suited for the role of the only car in the family. The warranty period was set by the manufacturer at 3 years (or 100 thousand kilometers).

Every year, the manufacturer improved its competitive development, and by the time the time came for the release of the third generation, the car was in stable demand in the Russian market. How did the characteristics of the crossover change? Did the technical problems of the car fall into the field of view of the regular innovators, were the shortcomings and errors corrected during the next restyling?

Model description

The Japanese concern has always respected the unspoken deadlines for the release of new models. New developments appeared on the market with enviable stability (every five years) - the next generations of the CR-V and Pilot models.

So, in 2008, the company first introduced the world to the second generation of an 8-seater crossover Pilot. Honda Pilot 2 was also successfully updated: restyling was carried out by the concern in 2011. Serious improvements touched the appearance, lighting system, appeared new modification power plant. This is the same engine, but to please Russian realities power reduced to 249 hp Whether reduced, the question is open. It was expected that the renewal of the Honda Pilot line in 2014 would be completed. But, instead, in 2015, the company was already preparing a layout of the third generation of crossovers, despite the difficult situation on the market (decrease in sales).

Technical capabilities

The "Japanese" of the second generation is a powerful, dynamic and passable crossover. The manufacturer endowed the Honda Pilot 2008 with technical characteristics due to:

  • 5-speed automatic transmission (the manufacturer abandoned the manual transmission, preparing the second generation of Pilot crossovers),
  • plug-in all-wheel drive (proprietary system VTM-4),
  • 3.5 liter engine, 257 hp. (acceleration in 9.9 seconds, maximum speed - 180 km / h). Approximately with the same indicators, but with a power of 249 hp. after reystaling.

Transmission

Experts called the 2008 Honda Pilot transmission "unpretentious" and yet requiring competent after-sales service(systematic monitoring of the condition of the oil, timely detection of oil leaks).

Permeability, maneuverability

Claimed ground clearance - 203 mm. Four-wheel drive is connected automatically during a quick start or slip (the corresponding signal is sent from the sensors). The rest of the time, traction goes to the front wheels. The Japanese full-size crossover cannot overcome off-road, but, judging by the test drive, the 2008 Honda Pilot copes well with obstacles of medium difficulty.

The 2nd generation Honda Pilot cannot be called maneuverable due to its high weight, and yet in 2008-2011 the crossover was not inferior to its competitors in terms of cornering agility. On the contrary, the car demonstrates high technical capabilities in severe weather and road conditions (overcoming medium-sized potholes).

Fuel consumption

The concern equipped the car with a branded J35Z4 engine (a modified unit based on the J35A1 installation - a 1999 development). The manufacturer has also introduced power plant a unique system that, if necessary (depending on road conditions and in order to save fuel), can turn off either 3 or 2 cylinders. This is really one of the unique developments of the concern that existed on the market at the time of the release of the second generation Pilot. Thanks to her, the owner of a Japanese crossover in 2008 can save on fuel consumption: 11.8 l / 100 km with a combined cycle (up to 16.3 in the city).

Chassis

The suspension is suitable for long journeys, however, as the years of operation of the crossover in Russian reality have shown, the rear struts “give up” already for 70 thousand km, the front ones are enough for 140 thousand. Replacements were also required for expensive hydraulic supports that fail every 150 thousand km .

Honda Pilot 2008

By the time the Honda Pilot 2010 entered the market, experts and experienced car owners noticed the "constructive miscalculation" of the Honda Pilot developers. The characteristics of 2008 testified to a reduced volume of the lubrication system, therefore, with a run of over 100 thousand km, they failed camshafts. Experts say that this trouble can be avoided by constantly monitoring the oil level. Unfortunately, this problem not eliminated during the restyling in 2011 (Honda Pilot 2012 adopted the shortcomings of its predecessor).

Exterior

8-seater 5-door crossover of the second generation was produced in America and designed as a classic american jeep. In the world market, the crossover was positioned as a full-size, but its dimensions were even higher than the declared class: length - 4.8 m, width - 2, height - 1.85, weight - 2 tons. A flat roof, almost square windows and headlights, rectangular doors visually increased the size of the crossover.
Another characteristic of american cars a feature in the exterior - the car in all trim levels was equipped with regular halogen headlights.

Interior design, car equipment

Attention to the crossover in the Russian market was provided by: a spectacular interior, comfortable travel conditions and technical "stuffing".

Safety

Experts, talking about the interior of the Honda Pilot 2008, first of all paid attention to the high level of passive safety, the presence of up to 10 airbags, side curtains. Moreover, the developers were able to surprise both experts and motorists with the unusual operation of the security system - two modes allow the protection to work with different strength(according to the severity of the collision). The intelligent system ensures the safety of the front passenger with the help of a side airbag and specialized sensors.

Technical equipment

The "stuffing" varies from configuration to configuration: in the base (LX) - cruise control system, noise reduction, CD player, air conditioning, power windows; in the top versions (EX, EX-L) - climate control, music system, DVD player, system that controls the level of pressure in the wheels, steering wheel position control, heated seats, navigation, panoramic sunroof.

The control panel is designed in corporate style Japanese concern: on the chopped console there is a monochrome display (color 8-inch multimedia in the top version), audio control buttons, climate control. The salon is decorated in a conservative style, high-quality eco-leather is used as finishing materials.

Comfort

In the massive 2008 Honda Pilot crossover, passengers and the driver feel comfortable, because they are not constrained in their movements: there is enough space for everyone to sit in a chair in a reclining position. True, sitting on the third row is not so comfortable: not three passengers are freely accommodated here, but only two.
The seats of the 2nd and 3rd rows are removed (the third "to the floor", the second - in a ratio of 60 to 40), increasing the space in the trunk: 510 liters will intervene in it in the standard position of the seats, up to 2.5 thousand liters - with the seats folded two rows.
The driver and passengers have cup holders at hand, there are many drawers, pockets for small things and documents.

After restyling

After restyling, the 2012-2015 Honda Pilot was equipped with an engine of the same J35Z4 brand (volume 3.5 liters, power 249 hp). Fuel consumption decreased slightly - to 11.6 liters in the combined cycle (up to 15.8 liters in the city).

During the restyling, the manufacturer changed the technical specifications in the 2011 Honda Pilot, and also took into account the opinion of the public about the exterior. The developers have introduced a new design front bumper, radiator grille and rims. The front and rear optics have slightly changed in the car. Unfortunately, adherents of the brand noted that after the update, the body flaws did not go away - thin and easily scratched paintwork and chrome coating, fogging rear lights, quickly becoming cloudy front ones. The size of the disks remained the same - R17.

But there were also negative changes: the clearance decreased to 200.
Three modifications of the Honda Pilot 2012 appeared on the Russian market, the characteristics corresponded to the prices:

  • rich basic version (climate control, electronic security and assistance systems in motion, on-board computer, electric drive and heated side mirrors, heated rear, heated front and rear seats, it is possible to install a radio),
  • top-end (equipped with a rear-view camera, a sunroof that opens at the touch of a button, a driver's seat with a "memory" settings function).

Available configurations and prices

On the official website of the manufacturer (in the zone.ru) and at car dealers, the configurations and prices of the third generation Honda Pilot are presented. But you can still buy Honda crossover Pilot II. In private ads, there are all three configurations that appeared on the market along with the Honda Pilot 2009: basic Elegance, Executive (leather interior, electric seat adjustment, rear view camera, parking sensors, roof rails), top Executive Navi (multimedia with color 8- mi inch display, navigation, audio system, 9 speakers).

Prices are set by the owners depending on the year of manufacture, configuration and technical condition, vary within the following limits:

  • 2008 release, basic equipment - 650-850 thousand rubles, average - 820-945 thousand, full - 1.05-1.1 million;
  • 2009-2010 onwards – from 800 thousand ( good condition, basic equipment);
  • Honda Pilot 2011, after restyling - 1.15 million (basic version) or 1.18-1.48 million (maximum equipment, excellent condition);
  • Honda Pilot 2012 (specs: Gas engine, 249 hp, 3l) - 1.28-1.55 million (in the maximum configuration - from 1.35 million);
  • 2013 and 2014 onwards - 1.17-1.65 million

Main competitors

At one time, experts reviewed the 2008 Honda Pilot and compared the "Japanese" with crossovers from leading manufacturers. Already the first representative of the new generation embodied competitive qualities, thanks to which, according to numerous users, the following popular crossovers turned out to be equal for the “Japanese”:

  • Mazda CX-9 (inferior in running gear, but "levels the score" with a stylish exterior),
  • (built on the same base as the Pilot, differs only in the "stuffing" and the shape of the body),
  • Toyota Venza and Volkswagen Touareg(based on average scores for key indicators).

Honda Pilot could well compete with similar modifications of popular models.

The latest version in the second generation - Honda Pilot 2014 - can not be compared with the third generation crossover. The improved “Japanese” is quite capable of competing with such leaders in the business crossover segment as (bestseller), Lexus RX (popular in Europe) and Volvo XC90 (famous for Swiss quality):

Distinctive features of the model

It is possible to identify several distinctive features models.

  • Classic exterior (in line with American engineering trends of the time), impressive size.
  • The maximum equipment of the basic configuration (thought-out practicality in the cabin, cozy adjustable seat driver, driver assistance systems);
  • Security systems that outperform the competition. The developers of the concert have introduced a set of innovative solutions into the second-generation crossover to improve the overall level of safety, both passive and active. In addition to the maximum equipment basic version(active headrests, side curtains, up to 10 airbags and electronic security systems), the car features a two-stage airbag deployment mode. Pillows open with different force depending on the severity of the collision (a signal about the strength of the impact is given by special sensors). This intelligent system in 2008 did not leave indifferent neither motorists nor experts.

  • Really roomy interior. Pilot is the only full-size 8-seater crossover at the time of the release of the second generation. Thanks to this feature of the crossover, it became possible to comfortably travel long distances with a large company or a small one, but with amenities (a roomy trunk, with two rows folded down, a small air mattress fits).
  • Honda Pilot 2008 in terms of technical characteristics, if inferior to its main rivals, was slightly, and in some ways even superior to most similar modifications: high power, maneuverability, reliable motor, excellent cross-country ability (under road conditions of medium difficulty), smart system all-wheel drive (connected when towing and starting, the rest of the time front-wheel drive is involved).
  • Economical operation (based on fuel consumption, tax, maintenance costs and current minor repairs). Subject to care recommendations, it can serve for three years or more without serious failures (does not require overhaul). And it will not be difficult to replace failed, inexpensive spare parts (available in many auto parts stores, in automotive markets, in extreme cases, you can install an inexpensive analogue).

Cons/problems

Experts attribute the main problems to the rapidly declining oil level, which must be constantly monitored. There is no corresponding sensor in the cabin (it did not appear even after the upgrade, in Honda versions Pilot 2011). To monitor the situation, non-technically savvy car owners will have to regularly contact the service center.

The chassis is easy to "use" if you forget that you are still dealing not with an SUV, but with a crossover. The stabilizer bushings are broken on the "harsh" Russian roads more often than you would like.
Among other, less significant disadvantages, the owners name:

  • insufficient soundproofing of the cabin;
  • every 80 thousand km you have to change the spark plugs (although 105 are declared);
  • the snowplow zone is not heated;
  • no usb connector
  • ground clearance is too small for a full-size crossover;
  • LCP is easily damaged.

Buying a second-generation Japanese crossover today is worth it only from responsible car owners who have taken care of the car properly. As an alternative, you can consider a "Japanese" no older than 7 years, it is advisable to buy a Honda Pilot 2014 (at least 2012 onwards).
