From the point of view of technology, here, as in Toyota, work on bugs, there are no fundamental technical changes. The previous models did not have any serious jambs, so we decided to leave everything as it is. Only the front stabilizer was slightly modified again, which is now available even in the database. The car is equipped with a classic MacPherson suspension, rear semi-independent beam.

In the new Renault Logan 2, there are two engines to choose from under the hood:

  • 1.6, 8 valves, like on AvtoVAZ
  • 1.6, 16 valves.

The second row sofa is not the most comfortable. Two people will still somehow be located on it, but as a third it is better to take a child. However, there is enough free space for the head and legs.

The steering wheel is classic for Renault models. The torpedo curves slightly along the dashboard. The plastic from which it is made is not easily soiled, so there are no prints or marks left on it. The upholstery of the side walls and doorways is fabric, but durable. In general, everything in the cabin is concise and restrained. As before, Logan is offered in one of three trim levels. These are Authentique, Expression and Prestige. It is quite logical that the latest version is the most expensive and attractive. What changed?

For those who do not know the previous generation of Renault Logan, it is necessary to briefly describe what Logan received. The basic design remains unchanged. The French decided not to change anything, because the design of the first generation suited everyone - it was utilitarian in everything. Renault retained the main features, but became more attractive. We'll be back to the salon.

As for the technical stuffing, Logan is built on the same platform, only a new body is installed. There are no new engines for the car, but there are modernized old ones: a 1.6-liter gasoline unit with 8 or 16 valves. Power - 82 or 102 forces. The car has all the basic functions that are standard for a modern European car: ESP, multimedia, parking sensors, climate control, etc. All trim levels, except Luxe Privilege, received a dark interior. Our opinion: the dark interior looks more successful, although some may like the light inserts in Luxe Privilege, which differ in tone. You can sum up the Renault Logan 2 cabin: excellent ergonomics, comfort due to useful functions, cheap but practical design.

We start acceleration: power plants

The new 82-horsepower unit is designed for a measured and uniform ride. In general, the manufacturer does not hide the fact that the engine does not have much power. It is enough to operate a car in the city: low fuel consumption will help save money during traffic jams and at traffic lights. Renault's traction is pleasing - regardless of the number and size of passengers, the car confidently keeps speed. Yes, keeping the speed is also a significant plus of the power plant.

On the track with such a motor, it will also not be bad, the only thing that can upset is overtaking. Logan is not suitable for such maneuvers, because. acceleration is quite slow, and there is no point in pressing the gas pedal after 4000 rpm - there will be no more. But in places where you do not need to constantly change speeds (freeway), the engine feels at ease. The technical specifications provided data on this motor.

A test drive showed that the 102-horsepower engine really gives the best results in terms of dynamics and elasticity. Don't expect a significant increase in power. But this option wins in many respects. For example, the torque is kept up to the limit zone of the tachometer. Due to the wider pick-up range, maneuverability is increased. A minus was also revealed: the reaction to pressing the pedal has a noticeable pause. But it is impossible to find fault with this property - the pause occurs due to environmental constraints. The power plant is the engine and gearbox. So with this very box, things are not as smooth as with engines. The test drive was accompanied by strong statements. And all because to miss the right gear - just spit. A long lever with huge strokes gives the impression that you are stirring the brew in a large cauldron.

Design and the European level of equipment is difficult to associate with constant vibration on the lever, which does not depend on the speed. Here it seems alien - we are not in the "Zhiguli" of the 80th year. Now it is worth saying a few words about the steering wheel and its amplifier. Of course, it is more difficult to control without this amplifier, but we expected more from the French: for some reason, with increasing speed, the force decreases, although everything should happen the other way around. This option, by the way, will cost customers 13,000 rubles.

But enough of the sad stuff. Our test drive confirmed that the suspension is still the benchmark for a budget car. Moreover, she received a couple of points to survivability and impenetrability. The acquired rigidity hasn't really affected comfort, although a driver spoiled with crossovers may not like the little jolts when driving on a beaten road. But when the car eats off the asphalt onto a dirt road, there will be no questions left: the new Logan has decent “off-road” qualities that cannot be found in competitors.

Prices and equipment

Test drive completed - summing up. The main advantage of Renault Logan is still the price. With all the improvements and the introduction of new technology, the cost remained small, as for the Russian market. Perhaps this is the main explanation why this car can be found so often on our roads. If you look, then Renault Logan has no competitors at all with such a low price. What potential drivers may not like is the place of assembly - Russian versions are assembled at VAZ factories. This practice rarely demonstrated a truly high-quality assembly.

The standard version called Access can be purchased for 355 thousand rubles. For the money you get a Renault with an 82-horsepower engine, light tinting, rear window heating and daytime running lights. Inside, the driver will be greeted by budget upholstery, for the basic assembly, glass adjustment is still mechanical. The driver should be pleased with a solid ashtray and cigarette lighter, R15 wheels and a spare wheel in the kit. FOR 8,000 rubles it will be possible to make a metallic body color, while the hydraulic booster will cost 13,000 rubles.

The average Confort equipment does not differ in terms of power plant, it has a richer interior filled with chrome elements, drives for lifting windows, lighting for the trunk and other trifles. But safety is at a higher level here - ABS is present. The price of Confort (in French) is from 408 thousand. The most expensive Luxe Privilege equipment will cost 500 thousand - in addition to the top-end engine, there is a built-in navigator, leather trim for some elements and alloy wheels.

It was this car that proved that it still happens with high quality, reliability and inexpensive. Why, it was Logan who massively transplanted domestic motorists from Zhiguli to new foreign cars. One of the most iconic cars on the Russian market is finally presented in the second generation. So, is Renault Logan 2 a hit again?

When in 2004 the French introduced the Romanian Dacia Logan on the Russian market under their badge, the most important thing is that they did not lie. They did not promise a stunning design, they did not promise a comfortable and thoughtful interior, they did not promise the power of motors and innovative technologies. The French modestly said that this car would be relatively safe, reliable, functional and, most importantly, inexpensive. And they kept their word!

Even if Logan’s appearance, cut down with an ax, caused bouts of disgust in someone, even if it was possible to collect five bags of ergonomic punctures in Logan’s cabin, even if the dynamics of acceleration and the excitement of control remained somewhere on the sidelines, but Renault Logan, according to all Russian realities, patiently and calmly, not asking no special questions, he drove and drove and drove ...

Unfortunately, my close acquaintance with this car left ambiguous impressions for only one reason: I had one of the most expensive Logan modifications at my disposal - at a price of over 500,000 rubles, and this is also with a manual transmission. To be honest, paying that kind of money for this car is crazy. The limit of the economic attractiveness of a car, which every detail reminds the owner that he bought what he simply had enough money for, ends much earlier.

And here again. At the official presentation of the novelty, only the most expensive versions: Privilege and Luxe Privilege. But there is no thought that we will again have to imagine and abstractly describe more accessible versions, where this and that will not be, there is no trace - I admire!

Although some shortness in appearance remained, nevertheless, the new Logan became not just pretty - attractive. Moreover, now in the description of the exterior of the sedan, you can safely use the word design! There is no longer a disproportionate heap of angles and straight lines, no unpainted bumpers and other "worker-peasant" features - Renault Logan has changed so much that he even allowed himself stylish embellishments.

A significant share of the external expressiveness of the sedan was provided by a spectacular blue color. The trunk lid is now with a fashionable tail spoiler. All chrome trim is tastefully done - there are even neat stripes on the door handles. Major!

It is based on the same B0 platform as the previous generation. Therefore, the dimensions of the car have not changed much: the new Logan has become 58 mm longer, 7 mm narrower and 17 mm lower. Claimed ground clearance - 155 mm - is indicated at full load. With the interior, the changes are the same as with the exterior. Remaining familiar in terms of overall architecture, inexpensive and hard plastics, as well as the management of primary and secondary functions, the interior of the new Logan has changed dramatically.

First of all visually. Is that Logan? The influx of lines and two-tone surfaces are pleasing to the eye and successfully combined with the glossy (!) finish of the upper center console. Chrome edging looks absolutely out of place.

Pleasantly lies in the hands of a new comfortable leather steering wheel with control buttons ... cruise control! Before your eyes is a simple but stylish Megan instrument panel with an on-board computer screen. Maneuvering in the parking lot helps full-time parking sensors.

The temperature in the cabin is now controlled by full-fledged climate control, and entertainment and navigation are managed by a multimedia complex with a simple and convenient interface. Moreover, active safety is under the control of the ESP system.

In all versions, except Luxe Privilege, the interior is made in one dark color. And, to be honest, I like it better this way. The bright inserts, although nice, are easily soiled, they differ in tone from above and below, and the cheapness of light plastic is striking. But most importantly, everything is in its place, in direct line of sight and reach. No more searching for power window buttons, no more scratching your hands to adjust the seat or turn on the seat heater, no more fingering on the left lever to honk. Beauty!

The seat itself has also changed for the better. Although it still does not indulge in either profile or density, the edges of the back no longer dig into the shoulder blades, and the lower back does not fall “into the hole”.

There is still enough space on the back sofa for a person even slightly above average height, but there are almost no additional amenities - only one cup holder for two. Most importantly, the seatbacks now fold down. It's a pity, only on expensive trim levels. In the base, as before, the sofa is screwed tightly.

Trunk volume has not changed - the same impressive 510 liters. Under the floor is a full-size "reserve". By the way, the new Renault Logan is now equipped with Pirelli's Formula Energy tires.

Engine compartment surprised … no traces of economy. Not only is there heat and noise insulation, but also a gas stop. Well, if you look deeper, it turns out that the motor range has lost its weakest motor. The new Logan now has only a 1.6 engine in two boost options: 82 and 102 horsepower.

The base 8-valve engine was of the greatest interest. Does it go? After all, both engines of the new Logan now meet Euro-5 standards. With him, I started a test drive.

The first sixty kilometers of the test route showed that the 82-horsepower engine was primarily made not to drive, but to pull. Actually, the characteristics of the motor were adjusted for this task - the torque shelf, which is now 134 Nm (+10 Nm), has been shifted to the lower zone of the tachometer. And the gear ratios of the old five-speed gearbox are already close together.

So with at least one driver, at least with two more well-fed passengers and a full trunk of equipment, the new Renault Logan accelerates equally slowly. But to say that he is not going would be a lie. For example, for urban operating conditions, the capabilities of the base motor are quite enough. And for the Montenegrin serpentines, where the presentation took place, it was precisely these characteristics, without the need to go into higher gears, that turned out to be in the very suit, making it easy to keep the car in good shape.

There will be problems when overtaking on the track: Logan accelerates very reluctantly from medium speeds. Moreover, it makes no sense to “turn” the engine until the cutoff - after 4,000 revolutions, the engine ends all thrust.

You don’t need to count on speed records even on a 102-horsepower sedan. The 16-valve engine is, of course, faster, but the main thing is a little more elastic, more versatile. The available torque does not drop until the red zone of the tachometer, and the pickup range itself is noticeably wider, which improves the predictability of the machine's responses. Only now these reactions are strongly damped - 102-horsepower Logan responds to pressing the gas pedal with a pause. Ecological "strangleholds" are affecting.

The most interesting thing is that the 8-valve engine is noticeably quieter. The motor of a more powerful Logan hums non-stop, changing the tone of the sound depending on the speed. As a result, the path on a weaker version turned out to be much more comfortable.

Renault Logan has not lost its main advantage - the all-forgiving suspension, which migrated from the previous generation almost unchanged. Even a few kilometers on rocky mountain primers made us worry only about the integrity of the rubber, rather than the safety of shock absorbers and our own dental fillings.

At the same time, the designers almost imperceptibly for the inhabitants of the cabin increased the stiffness of the suspension, at the same time strengthening the anti-roll bar and installing a hydraulic booster with variable characteristics. The proposed mountain route was just the right place to test all these innovations.

The first generation of the Renault Logan sedan lasted ten years on the assembly line, and during this time more than half a million cars were sold in Russia. But if the quality, reliability, simplicity, unkillable suspension, low price - all this was with the "old Logan". And the appearance ... let's just say - it was very often criticized.
The second generation sedan is a completely different matter! The car noticeably prettier both externally and internally, but at the same time retained a reliable design and low cost.

The new Renault Logan received a completely new interior. As for finishing materials, hard plastic, of course, has not gone away, but its texture has changed seriously, and for the better. Plenty of space both front and rear. The front seats look decent, but it’s definitely not possible to rest in them, leaning back: its shape is not so anatomical, and the headrest strives to “run away” from the back of the head. After a few hours spent in their arms, a certain fatigue sets in.

The dashboard turned out to be modern, and on the right there was even a place for an LCD display, which displays the readings of the on-board computer. White, pleasant illumination pleases the eye.

Perhaps some solutions on the new Renault Logan look too archaic, but there are practically no complaints about ergonomics. You can only find fault with the buttons for the rear power windows (in expensive trim levels), which are located on the center console. But the buttons for controlling the electric drive of the front windows have moved to their usual place - on the door.
Everything else, including the seat heating buttons and adjustment levers, are located in their places, in direct line of sight and reach.
And one more pleasant moment - it is now possible to “beep” in the new Renault Logan in the same way as in a conventional car, by pressing the plastic pad in the center of the steering wheel.

Not only avid summer residents and outdoor enthusiasts, but also the townspeople appreciated the former Logan for its large trunk. Its volume is still impressive - 510 liters, and under the floor is a full-size spare tire. But now, in expensive versions of the second generation sedan, it is possible to fold the rear seat back in proportions of 1:2, 2:3 or completely.

The multimedia system of the new Renault Logan deserves special words. Yes, yes, it is multimedia, and it is on Logan! Its readings are displayed on a small touch screen with a diameter of 7 inches. The interface of the multimedia system is simple and convenient, thanks to which it works very quickly. It is worth noting that the hardware is supplied by LG, and the maps are supplied by Navteq.
As for the main functions of the multimedia complex, they include navigation in 2D or 3D modes, listening to music from external media and radio stations, as well as hands-free calls. External devices can be connected via USB and AUX connectors, or via Bluetooth.
The Media Navi multimedia system sounds good (speakers are located in all doors), quickly responds to touches on the screen, which is well read from the driver's seat and does not glare in the sun. You can also control Media Navi using the steering column joystick.

But before setting off on the new Renault Logan, it was very interesting to inspect its engine compartment. And it surprised ... There is no savings! There is also heat and noise insulation, and a gas stop.

As for engines, two of them were offered for the second generation Logan, each with a volume of 1.6 liters.

The base 8-valve engine, producing 82 horsepower, aroused the greatest interest. Does he have a car with him? After all, both units of the sedan meet Euro-5 standards. Behind the wheel of the 82-horsepower Renault Logan, it immediately becomes clear that the engine is designed to pull, not drive. In principle, the motor was tailored precisely for this task - its torque was increased to 134 Nm, which is already available at 2800 rpm.
Whether it’s one driver on board, or a few more plump people and a full trunk of luggage, the “second” Renault Logan with the base engine accelerates equally slowly, it even seems to make it slower than the passport 11.9 seconds. But to say that he is not going - the language will not turn. For example, for operation in a city, 82 “horses” are enough for a car. But on the highway, especially when overtaking, some difficulties may arise: from medium speeds, Logan accelerates reluctantly, and after 4,000 revolutions, all the thrust from the engine dries up. In general, a sedan with an 8-valve unit on the highway is able to gain about 130 km / h, and then acceleration occurs with great difficulty, therefore, if it develops the declared maximum speed of 172 km / h, then when it is no longer necessary.

The more powerful 16-valve engine, producing 102 horsepower and 145 Nm of peak torque, which is reached at 3750 rpm, is also not created for setting speed records. However, it is, of course, faster and a little more elastic. The available torque does not drop to the very red zone of the tachometer, and the range of pickup is noticeably wider here, making the predictability of the response of the car much better. But it is worth noting that these very reactions are overly damped - Logan with a 102-horsepower unit responds with a pause to pressing the accelerator pedal. And all the fault of ecological "noose".
I don’t want to arrange high-speed races from traffic lights to traffic lights on such a Renault Logan, even with the declared acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 10.5 seconds: already at 3500 rpm, unpleasant sounds and noises begin to come from the engine compartment. In general, according to this parameter, the 8-valve engine looks more interesting, since it works noticeably quieter. The engine of the 102-horsepower "Logan" is buzzing and, depending on the speed, changes its tone. Therefore, a weaker sedan is much more comfortable to ride.

It is worth noting that the new Renault Logan clearly lacks an automatic transmission, and whether it will appear or not is not yet known for sure. For urban use, especially in tandem with a 102-horsepower engine, an “automatic” would come in handy.

The old Logan was equipped with a truly indestructible and forgiving suspension. And on the car of the second generation, the suspension design was preserved, except that some cosmetic changes were made to it, changing the anti-roll bar and increasing the stiffness of the shock absorbers.
The new "Logan" still does not care which road to take, what quality the asphalt is, and whether there is any at all. Irregularities, potholes, pits, even large ones, the car literally ignores - as if it went for a walk. Before speed bumps, you can not slow down at all, but if the driver still managed to hear some kind of knock in the suspension, this suggests that he did not notice a very large hole. If the hit reaches the riders, they will not pay much attention to it.
At the same time, the new Renault Logan is controlled quite interestingly, and compared to its predecessor, the rolls have become a little less, and the reactions to the steering wheel are a little sharper. And on winding roads, the sedan is able to deliver, albeit light, but driver's pleasure. Thanks for this it is worth saying to the classic hydraulic booster, which provides a pleasant heaviness of the steering wheel and good information content, and to the forgiving chassis.

In all trim levels, except for the basic one, the new Renault Logan is equipped with an anti-lock braking system (ABS), which is also complemented by an emergency braking system that works at the right time. In the top version, for an extra charge, the car will be equipped with a stability control system, which ensures the stability of the car in difficult conditions: on how many roads, when trying to maneuver sharply in front of an obstacle, and also when cornering with poor grip.
