For large displacements, the protruding edge of the joint should be machined flush or the protrusion with a radius of at least 100 m should be rolled up. For machines in operation, the allowable runout value can be taken larger and be up to 0.8 mm for machines with a drum diameter of up to 3.5 m.

Excessive heat can be caused by poor fit of the brake pads, improper adjustment of the brake actuator, incomplete braking of the machine due to incorrect adjustment of the brake actuator, and bulging of the rim (due to local heating). The appearance of tarnishing colors on the rim and burning of the pads is unacceptable.

From technical condition The reliability of the brake, the durability of the brake pads largely depend on the brake rim. The working surface of the brake rim must be clean and smooth. As a result of operation, roughness scratches, cracks at the junctions of two halves of the rim may appear on the brake rim.

In the presence of scratches and roughness, the rim is polished. If cracks are found in the welded joints of the halves of the brake rim weld the cracks are removed in place and welded again.
