A sports car produced by two well-known companies in the automotive industry, the first company became famous for the reliability of their cars, and the second for their speed. As a result, the company also released a sports car Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren.

This sports car appeared in 2003, at that time it was the fastest car in the world on which an automatic transmission was installed, meaning fast acceleration to hundreds. Mercedes-Benz planned to produce for 7 years and 500 cars of this series will be produced every year. But in 2007, both companies stopped their cooperation, and Mercedes continued to produce this car, so faster versions appeared, as well as the Roadster version.

As a result, in 2009, the production of cars of this series was completely stopped. McLaren replaced this model with, and Mercedes-Benz released a replacement.

Design Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren

By the appearance of this car, it is immediately clear that this is a Mercedes, since the design is similar to other cars by companies, so the large logo of this company flaunts in front and behind. The front has a long, embossed hood with air intakes that boils down to the logo. It has branded optics, which are 3 ovals with lenses inside. Similar optics are found on other cars of the brand. The massive aerodynamic bumper received a huge air intake that leads air into the engine and to the front brakes.

The side view is also good, the interesting thing here is the gills with 2 chrome lines, it looks aggressive. The exhaust system, or rather its location, also looks a little non-standard. The exhaust pipes are located on the side under the gills, two on each side. Beautiful wheels, an interesting rear-view mirror and a button to open the door, which is not on the door, all this makes the appearance unique among competitors. The doors of this car open slightly forward and upward, this design was made by combining 2 types of door opening, Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR door opening and McLaren F1 door opening.

The rear end will also impress, it has beautiful Mercedes-style headlights, a massive bumper and a trunk lid spoiler that extends either at the touch of a button or when a certain speed is reached.

Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren coupe dimensions:

  • length - 4656 mm;
  • width - 1908 mm;
  • height - 1261 mm;
  • wheelbase - 2700 mm;
  • ground clearance - 120 mm.

There is also a version with an open roof, which has not practically changed in size, only the clearance has changed, it has become 18 mm smaller.

Specifications

Both manufacturers together created a 5.5-liter engine with high performance. It's a V-shaped V8 that puts out 626 horsepower.

McLaren is responsible for the speed performance of the engine, and Mercedes is responsible for the good quality of work.

The result is impressive, the car accelerates to the first hundred in just 3.8 seconds, and up to 200 km / h in 10.2 seconds. Fans of high speeds can accelerate on this car up to 300 km / h in 27 seconds. This dynamics is also provided by the gearbox, this is with 5 steps.

Also, this car has excellent brakes, with a sharp press on the brake pedal, the car from a speed of 250 km / h will travel 220 meters to a complete stop.

Salon

The car inside looks no less attractive than the outside. There are only two seats here, these are sports leather seats with excellent lateral support, electrically adjustable and heated. The entire interior is upholstered in high quality leather.

The driver will control the model using a 3-spoke steering wheel with 8 multimedia buttons. The dashboard has 4 analog gauges, the main of which are deepened inside. The tidy looks really nice, good backlighting and easy to read. The steering wheel can be trimmed with Alcantara, and the interior can get carbon inserts, it all depends on the desire of the buyer.

The center console of the Mercedes-Benz CLR McLaren received round air deflectors in the upper part. Below are the auto operation settings selectors. Next comes a lid with a chrome-plated name of the car, behind which the radio is hidden. Closer to the tunnel is a climate control unit with beautiful design, even by modern standards. On the tunnel there is a gearbox selector, buttons for setting various systems and car behavior, and a parking brake handle.

Price

The cost of the model in the basic configuration is $493,000, now it can be found on the secondary market, but the price will be higher. The last exclusive version was sold at auction, where the minimum price was $530,000. Also, as already mentioned, there are more powerful versions that will cost the buyer more.

The basic version has:

  • climate control;
  • xenon optics;
  • heated mirrors and electric drive;
  • power seats and heating;
  • awesome audio system.

There are different versions of cars, we have already talked about the roadster, but there were also different tuning versions and so on.

One of these cars is the Stirling Moss, it has the same engine, but due to the new design and the lack of a roof and windshield, the car accelerates a little faster.

The sports car was tuned in such studios as Mansory, Edo Competition, Wheelsandmore.

As a result, two legendary companies managed to create a fast, beautiful and good car Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, everything is good in it. For those who have a desire to purchase it, you can look for options for buying it from hand, since its production has already been discontinued.

Mercedes McLaren is a famous German supercar produced from 2003 to 2009 by the world famous German company. This car is interesting in that it was developed and produced not only by Mercedes, but also by McLaren Automotive. Thus, it turned out their joint project.

A bit of history

Mercedes McLaren is often classified as a supercar. However, many critics have a different opinion. They say it's more of a super GT car. The closest Mercedes competitors in this case are the Ferrari 599 GTB and

One of the main goals of the developers was to combine in this car the features of a supercar and the specifics of cars belonging to the GT class. Everyone knows that the full name of this model is Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Moss. The abbreviation SLR translates as follows: sport, light, racing. Which in Russian means "sporty, light, racing."

The Mercedes SLR McLaren Stirling Moss is the fastest automatic car in the world. So about such a unique machine should be told in more detail.

Exterior concept

Design and exterior is a very important part of a car. Looking at this "Mercedes", we can say with confidence: the cooperation of the two companies was not in vain. The car has become a true masterpiece. And this applies to both appearance and technical characteristics.

Due to the work of McLaren specialists, it was possible to give the new product a special style. It definitely hasn't happened yet. The company's designers took a different look at the project and decided to make not a typical "Mercedes" design, but another one. Of course, the traditional style is great. However, it is not suitable for a car that belongs to the GT class.

With its appearance, this car is a racing car, during the creation of which the developers took into account all the laws of aerodynamics. The classic color of the model is silver. But the concern provides potential buyers with the opportunity to order the variant of the shade that they want.

A characteristic feature of the appearance of this car is an elongated hood and a cabin shifted back. This made it possible to place a more powerful engine under the hood. In general, this model resembles a car of the fifties. There are certain similarities in the exterior. However, there are also noticeable features that are inherent in the machines of the 90s (the shape of frames and doors, the curvature of the body).

Body design and interior

The doors of this car are made in the form of "wings" that open up. This can save a lot of space. And in general, many people think that it looks chic and stylish. By the way, such doors make it possible to get out of the car even in those situations in which it would simply not have been possible to do this with the help of ordinary ones. The door would simply be locked.

The body of this original Mercedes is made of carbon fiber. Today, this material is the most in demand when it comes to the manufacture of supercars or traditional supercars. Note that carbon fiber is both strong and light at the same time. Through the use of this material, it was possible to reduce the number of seconds required for acceleration and increase the maximum speed.

What can you say about the interior of a car like the Mercedes McLaren? It is laconic, harmonious and refined. The center console is the first thing in the cabin that instantly catches the eye. All sensors, as well as the tachometer with speedometer, are located behind the steering wheel. This is a very cost-effective and convenient solution. Interior design successfully harmonizes with the exterior of the car and enhances the impression of the model as a sports supercar GT.

Specifications

This is a very important part. Under the hood of this car, a 626-horsepower 8-cylinder engine is installed, which is controlled by a 5-speed automatic transmission. Up to a hundred kilometers, this car can accelerate in 3.8 seconds, and the maximum speed is 334 km/h.

The power unit itself has a horizontal central position, due to which it was possible to maintain the stability of the Mercedes on the track. But many believe that because of this arrangement of the motor, the car received an overly low landing. However, because of this, the center of gravity is located quite low. And this had a positive effect on the handling of the car. "Mercedes" feels different, not like a regular GT car, so it takes some getting used to. However, this specificity is rather a positive nuance than a negative one.

Versions and modifications

In 2006, such a car as the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 Edition appeared to the public. Its feature is a 650-horsepower engine, 19-inch alloy wheels, hard-tuned suspension, 10-centimeter ground clearance and a maximum of 337 km/h. And there is also an AMG version. Its power is 722 horsepower. The company claims it is the most powerful SLR in history. The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren turned out pretty fast. Its price was 675,000 dollars. A total of 30 such models were produced.

Then came the 722 GT with a 680 horsepower engine. This Mercedes cost $750,000. It was followed by "Roadster" - an open version, which became "heavier" coupe by 60 kilograms. The maximum of this car was 332 km / h, and the cost was 493,000 dollars. It was followed by the Roadster 722 S (with a 5.5-liter 650-horsepower engine), and then the SLR McLaren Stirling Moss, reaching "hundreds" in 3.5 seconds, with a maximum of 350 km / h. How much does a Mercedes-Benz McLaren cost? Its price is 1,200,000 euros. And this money is worth such a powerful GT-car with a 5.5-liter 650-horsepower unit.

The latest version was the 2010 SLR McLaren Edition with a carbon fiber body kit, double diffuser and reconfigured steering. A 5.4-liter 650-horsepower engine under the hood and a top speed of 340 km / h - only 25 of these models were produced.

rigging

It is logical to assume that in such a car there is simply a huge number of options and equipment. Take, for example, the 2005 model - serial. Power sports carbon seat, bi-xenon headlights, cruise control, windshield wipers with rain sensors, navigation system with CD player and built-in radio, heated washer system, light sensors, power steering, security system - this is just a small part of what can brag about this car!

On-board computer, multimedia, power steering, ABS, built-in telephone, dual-zone climate control, airbags - this is all and much more in this car! And, what is most interesting, it can actually be purchased. There are ads already "driven" car. Such a Mercedes McLaren will cost approximately 14,600,000 rubles. And the price is really worthy of this powerful, fast and comfortable car, on the hood of which the famous three-pointed star of Mercedes sparkles.

It started with this beauty
This was the very first Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR in 1955. A real sports car. Was based on the model Mercedes-Benz W196 F1
which was later called the road version 300SL Gullwing
By the way, SLR stands for sport, light, racing. That is, sports, light, racing.
The engine was eight cylinders. Only now the volume was increased from 2.5 to 2.9 liters. The old engine produced 290 forces at 8.100 rpm and the new one already 310 at 7.400 rpm. Depending on the intake manifold; The maximum torque of 318 Nm was already at 5,950 rpm.
The engine was mounted longitudinally and tilted 33 degrees for aerodynamic reasons. As a result, a bulge can be observed on the passenger side.

The engine also had one peculiarity. It used a desmodronic valve. And fuel injection. Which was a novelty then.
By the way, the fuel for the car was strange enough. A high-octane fuel mixture of 65% gasoline with low lead content and 35% benzene. Some races used alcohol to increase performance.
Typically, a car would start the race with 44 gallons of fuel and over nine liters of oil. Although the likes of Moss and Jenkinson raced in the 1955 Mille Miglia, they started the race with 70 liters of fuel in the tank.
In 1955, at Le Mans, 300 SLRs were equipped with so-called "air brakes". It's like what they use on airplanes. It's like a big hood behind the car. It slowed the car down at the end of the long straights. It looked like this

The idea came from motorsports director Alfred Neubauer. He was looking for a system that would help save drum brakes and tires from wear and tear on such long distances as Le Mans or Reims.
Neubauer (Neubauer) realized that air resistance would help slow down the car, especially at Le Mans.
The test showed that the 7.5 m² piece of light alloy, i.e. the spoiler, slowed the car down sharply and also improved cornering handling.
The SLR had two seats. This was required for sports racing cars at that time, as in some races, in addition to the driver, the navigator or mechanic also took part in the race. Usually a second "passenger" was needed in the Mille Miglia. But in 1955 the second place was canceled due to an accident at Le Mans. By the way, in short races such as the Targa Florio, the second passenger was not needed at all and therefore his seat was closed and the windshield was lowered for better aerodynamics.
Something like this
A total of 9 W196S chassis were produced.
With this car, Stirling Moss won the Mille Miglia. With an average speed of 157 km/h, and traveled over 1,600 km.
The 300 SLR went on to win in Germany, Sweden, Ireland and the Targa Florio in Sicily to win the 1955 World Sports Car Championship.
But there are no victories without failures. One of these was a terrible accident at the same Le Mans with the participation of Pierre Levegh.
82 spectators and his rival Levegh were killed in the worst motorsport accident in history.
Aspects of the accident were directly related to the unusual design of the SLR - even with the help of the innovative air brake, the drum brakes were not effective enough to stop Levegh's car from being hit in the back. Austin Healey as a result, the car went flying, so to speak. Moreover, due to the high magnesium content, a light spark caused a flash that caused an explosion of fuel. Moreover, they tried to extinguish the fire with water, but due to the high magnesium content, the fire only became stronger.
After this tragedy, Mercedes retired from motorsport until the mid-1980s....
Well, this was the story of the very first SLR. But let's move on. Ahead of us is the new Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren.
Let `s start.
What kind of Mercedes is this?
This is a supercar produced by Mercedes-Benz and McLaren Automotive. It was both a coupe and a roadster.

roadster came later

Its body was made entirely of carbon fiber. However, one part of the body is still made of aluminum. Namely, the motor frame. Doors are one of the features of this machine.
They are somewhat reminiscent of the same Gullwing. In general, the doors are hinged and open forward and upward. By the way, this design was adopted from the Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR and McLaren F1 racing models. The rear spoiler is not simple. It has electronic adjustment. By the way, when you slow down, it rises

Doesn't it remind you of anything?
Well, now the engine.
Under the hood is a 5.5 liter eight-cylinder engine with two turbochargers that develops 626 horsepower and a torque of 780 Nm. This allows it to accelerate to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds. six hundred thousand dollars.

And now dry tsirfy.
Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h - 3.8 sec. From 0 to 200 km/h already 10.2 sec. 11.5 seconds. Output speed is 210 km/h
It takes 20.5 seconds per kilometer. The exit speed is 269 km / h. The data was specifically for gonsego scratchers and others who want to compare a miracle of engineering and just a beautiful car with its basin or what it has there. (do not be offended)

What do you all think??? Yeah right now =)))
Let's go further!
Modifications are next.
So the first one is called roadster

The open version of the SLR appeared in September 2007. It cost 493,000 €. In principle, technically, the roadster was no different from the coupe. It still had the same 5.5 liter engine. The only roadster was 60 kg heavier compared to the coupe. its maximum speed. Now it is 332 km / h. Yes, you have to pay for beauty. And not only with money, but also with dynamics.

As a roof, the SLR had an electrically adjustable soft top. The process of converting from a convertible takes 10 seconds.

There is data (based on the official documentation) which say that thanks to the design of the cab. The driver can communicate with his passenger at speeds up to 200 km / h ... with the soft top folded. By the way, this roadster was made to fight open supercars. For example, with the Pagani Zonda F Roadster.
And now the sad news. They will not be made anymore. The last Roadster will roll off the assembly line in 2009. And then they will stop production. By the way, an auction was organized at which the car was painted in a special brown metallic (Sienna Pearl) and the interior was covered with Tobacco Brown leather. It was the only SLR. The starting price was $529,500 and interestingly, the roadster could only be purchased in the USA. The money was transferred to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (en: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital), which is engaged in the search for methods of treatment and prevention of cancer in children.
The next number of our program will be the version 722 Edition

So it was 2006. And the new Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 Edition was shown to the world. What does 722 mean? This is the number of victories of Stirling Moss and his co-pilot Denis Jenkinson in a Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR with start number 722 (showing a start time of 7:22 am ) at the Mille Miglia in 1955.
What is nice is that in the "722 Edition" the power was increased to 650 hp. And with it, the torque increased to 820 Nm at 4000 rpm.
The speed has also increased to 337 km / h. (This is 4 more than the standard SLR). This instance uses a modified suspension using a hard damper setting. Ground clearance is 10 cm. All for better handling. Brake discs are now with a larger diameter (390 mm ), as well as the front air fairing and rear diffuser have changed.
Brakes are just awesome

Acceleration has improved. Now the SLR accelerates to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds to 200 km/h in 8.6 seconds and finally the number 300 will be on the speedometer in 23.5 seconds. Outwardly, you can distinguish 722 from the "regular" silver bullet by 19-inch black disks with light rim and badge 722.

By the way, there is a complete set from AMG. The cost is an order of magnitude higher. Namely $ 675,000. True, the power of this car will already be 722 hp. ("AMG says it's the fastest SLR ever. A top speed of 347 km/h was set on the Autobahn in Frankfurt on April 23, 2010. The version is limited to 30 cars. But the company plans to put the car into mass production in the summer of 2011 and produce 100 cars per year")
ALSO Roadster 722S
everything is the same only without a roof. And also a limited version for 150 cars. The wheels are really a little different.

I hope you are not tired of reading?
Just another modification is presented to your attention.
722 GT

It's like the same 722 Edition but improved. And it is designed for competition. These cars are made by Ray Mallock Ltd. with the permission of Mercedes-Benz. The car now has a new wide body kit to match the 19-inch OZ racing wheels. Installed racing wing and diffuser.

The car felt better by 398 kg (up to 1300 kg). The engine is now even more powerful. Namely, 680 hp. and a torque of 830 N m at a turbo pressure of 1.75 atmospheres. In total, they plan to release 21 copies. But they will only be used for racing. The cost of each is €750,000

And finally, the last one for today.
SLR McLaren Stirling Moss
Yes, the same Moss.
It appeared in January 2009. And was shown at the Detroit Auto Show. It was created in honor of Stirling Moss. The speedster (body number Z199) has a 650-horsepower 5.5-liter V8 engine. The maximum speed is 350 km / h. Up to a hundred in 3.5 s.
The speedster was made from June to December 2009. Circulation 75 copies. Price €750,000.

Now the new SLS has replaced the SLR, but that's another story.
PS And now a couple of photos for tomorrow's blog)

Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren - luxurious, presentable, fast ... This is a car that is the result of a joint work of engineers from Mercedes-Benz and McLaren Automotive. It was produced from 2003 to 2009, and during these six years this model won the hearts of millions of lovers of quality sports cars.

Briefly about the model

The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren is presented as a sports supercar, but many experts tend to argue that it is rather a representative of such a class as the Super-GT. The car's closest competitors are the Ferrari 599 GTB and Aston Martin Vanquish. Luxurious representative cars that cause admiration. But this Mercedes is just as good. It is a racing light sports car, considered the fastest in the world among models with an automatic transmission.

The body of the car is made of a material such as carbon fiber, and the only part of it made of aluminum is the engine frame. The doors, which are hinged, open up and forward. The developers adopted this design from other famous racing cars - McLaren F1 and Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR. Under the hood of this iron horse is a 5.5-liter V8 engine that develops 626 horsepower. As you can see, the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren is truly the king of the road. And these are not the only features that you need to know about.

Dynamics

The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren is an incredibly dynamic car. It impresses with its features and capabilities. Up to a hundred kilometers, for example, this "beast" is able to accelerate in less than four seconds. Up to 200 km / h - a little more than 10 s. It reaches the mark of 300 km / h in 27 seconds.

What about top speed? The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, released in 2006 (the model is known as the 722 Edition), could reach a maximum speed of 337 km/h. Under the hood of this model, a 650-horsepower engine is installed. Alloy wheels 19 inches, suspension with hard damper settings, 10 cm ground clearance - all this provides the car with excellent handling and stunning driving characteristics. Plus, it is impossible not to note the front brake discs with an impressive diameter (39 centimeters!) And also the front air fairing. The characteristics of this version, by the way, are higher than those of the very first model. Maximum speed - 347 km / h, engine power - 722 hp. With. True, there are only 30 Mercedes McLaren cars in the world. It's really exclusive.

Specifications Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Roadster

This version in the most modest configuration can cost almost 500,000 euros. This car has exactly the same engine as in the coupe version. This car has become heavier than its predecessor by 60 kilograms, due to which the maximum speed has dropped to 332 km / h. What is special about this model is the soft folding top, equipped with an electronic drive. After the roof latch opens, it immediately folds in 10 seconds, automatically. This model is a serious competitor to such well-known open supercars as the Pagani Zonda F Roadster.

It was decided to paint this car in a special color - metallic brown, and to fit the interior with high-quality Tobacco leather. And of course, another interesting fact is that this is the only SLR in principle. Its cost is 529,500 dollars. And this is a truly luxurious sports supercar that attracts admiring glances like a magnet.

Mercedes McLaren Stirling Moss and its features

This is another luxurious version released by the German concern. The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Stirling Moss is an exclusive speedster that rumbles under the hood with a 650-horsepower 5.5-liter V8 unit. Its maximum is 350 kilometers per hour, and this car can accelerate to “hundreds” in a little more than three seconds. Mercedes McLaren is a very expensive, solid, fast and powerful car. Its cost is 1,200,000 euros, and only 75 copies of these machines were produced.

Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren V10 Quad-Turbo Brabus White Gold - perfection from the German car industry

We are all well aware that German-made cars, and especially if it is a Mercedes, are famous for their quality, beauty, speed ... And such an idea only strengthens a car like the McLaren V10. This is a true phenomenon, the perfection of the automotive industry. Its engine develops ... 1600 horsepower! This is simply incredible! It is not surprising that this car is included in the ranking of the most powerful and powerful cars on the entire planet. Top speed is 350 km/h and in less than two seconds this road monster hits 100 km/h. Literally in an instant! This is even hard to believe. But the German car industry storm, the Mercedes company, really managed to create such a car. Three million dollars is the price of this perfection.

The only, exclusive, unique Mercedes

It is difficult to describe in ordinary words a car like the Mercedes-Benz McLaren SLR Mansory. Unrealistic, one might say. This car exists only in a single copy. Impressive car, expensive and luxurious. In the process of creating this model, great attention was paid to the development of design. And it should be noted that the specialists of the concern succeeded. In addition, they have made great efforts to bring the aerodynamic characteristics of the car to perfection. The color of the car is golden, and not ordinary, but extremely unique. But this is not all that can catch the eye. The image of the car is successfully complemented by carbon parts. This car is a perfect symbiosis of excellent equipment and sporting capabilities. What to say about the interior - it's perfect. In its design, experts used the best materials.

This Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren is as luxurious as it looks. 8-cylinder engine of 5.6 liters, power - 690 "horses", maximum speed - 340 km / h. And it accelerates to “hundreds” in just three seconds. The figures, by the way, are exactly the same as those of Formula 1 racing Mercedes cars.

Exclusive

Another car that strikes the imagination of any car enthusiast with its appearance alone is the SLR McLaren Edition. This car was presented to the world in Essen, in 2010, at a special tuning show. This car is a real exclusive. It was equipped with the latest expensive carbon fiber body kit of incredible beauty, a double diffuser, as well as an improved, upgraded trunk lid. Plus, the developers equipped their invention with an adjustable suspension and reconfigured the steering. Under the hood, this model has a 5.4-liter compressor “eight”, which develops a capacity of 650 “horses”. And this powerful motor works in tandem with a five-speed automatic. The maximum of this model is 340 km/h. Only 25 of these cars were produced. This is a truly unique, unrealistically expensive Mercedes, which is also rare.

Specifications

The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, whose photo shows us the perfect car, is like an unearthly model. The place for such a car is either in the richest resort cities in the world, or on an endless highway. Its technical characteristics are not created for an ordinary metropolis. Not only the engine is amazing here. All other equipment also deserves attention. The developers have tried and equipped the model with everything that a driver may need. ABS, SBC, ESP - all this, of course, is available for this car. Interestingly, the rear spoiler of the car works like a wing, which, with a sharp decrease in speed, goes into a position at 65 °, due to which an additional aerodynamic deceleration is created. This helps reduce downforce and transfer it to the rear axle.

Naturally, the driving performance of the car is excellent. Any turns, serpentines, bumps on the roads, obstacles - all this is nothing to a supercar from the Mercedes company. Even a sudden loss of traction with the road surface will not be a hindrance. Even on wet pavement there will be no problems, and all thanks to the combined braking. In general, you can only get pleasure from driving this machine.

Everything for comfort

Needless to say, everything is perfect in such a car, because this is already clear. Safety, handling, ride quality, looks, power - everything is on top. By the way, the engineers of the concern acted very reasonably. They created not only a beautiful design. They have made it aerodynamic, functional, due to which it is possible to provide chic traction with the road surface and amazing stability even under extreme control.

Special attention should be paid to the expressive front of the car. She looks athletic, aggressive, muscular. The wedge-shaped hood with a three-beam star and elegant embossed wings cannot but attract attention. And the volumetric air intakes located on the massive front bumper are also very functional. They provide maximum cooling of the motor, as well as the front brakes. In addition, the air intakes further increase downforce by transferring most of the energy to the front axle.

Even more functionality

Apparently, the manufacturers and developers of this Mercedes had a goal to create the most comfortable, but at the same time functional and powerful car. They did it. This machine has a high-performance braking system, which consists of ventilated front discs made of a unique carbon-ceramic material. Plus, calipers (8 pistons) are also installed. By the way, the electro-hydraulic braking system regulates each wheel individually. This car has chic aerodynamics, which makes it a really powerful supercar. By the way, this is the main competitor of such well-known cars as Ferrari 599, Porsche 911 Turbo, Lamborghini Gallardo, Ford Mustang. And this list can be continued by mentioning many other sports cars that have conquered the world of supercars. Despite the fact that these versions are produced mainly with an automatic transmission, such a car goes very quickly. Still sport mode.

In general, one thing can be said with certainty. The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren is a truly rich, fast, powerful, luxurious car that is not ashamed to dream of. A real conqueror of roads, deserving a worthy owner and admiration.

2009 Mercedes SLR McLaren 722 S - 1 of 150

Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren(body code - C199) - a supercar produced jointly by Mercedes-Benz and McLaren Automotive from 2003 to 2009.

STORY

The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren was inspired by the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SLR, which was based on the W196 F1, later called the road version of the 300SL Gullwing.

Although this car is often classified as a supercar, compared to such established representatives of the class as the Porsche Carrera GT, Lamborghini Murciélago and Ferrari Enzo, the presence of an automatic transmission and some of its features make it more of a super-GT class, whose closer competitors are Aston Martin Vanquish and Ferrari 599 GTB.

One of the goals of the developers was to combine the supercar and the GT class in the SLR. SLR (sport, light, racing) - "sports, light, racing."

In 2006 a new version is shown called Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 Edition. Number 722 refers to the victory of Stirling Moss and co-driver Denis Jenkinson in a Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR with start number 722 (showing a start time of 7:22 am) at the Mille Miglia in 1955.

The "722 Edition" increased power to 650 hp. and torque up to 820 Nm at 4000 rpm, and a top speed of 337 km/h (4 more than the standard SLR). It uses 19-inch alloy wheels, a suspension modification using hard damper settings and 10 cm of ground clearance for better handling. Front brake discs with a larger diameter (390 mm) were installed, as well as the front air fairing and rear diffuser were modified.

Driving performance has been improved: 0-100 km/h in 3.6 seconds, 0-200 km/h in 10.2 seconds and 0-300 km/h in 27.6 seconds. Exterior changes include 19-inch black rims with light-colored rims, badge 722, like the classic model.

A complete set from AMG was also offered. Power - 722 hp The maximum speed of 347 km/h was set on the Autobahn in Frankfurt on April 23, 2010. The version is limited to 30 cars.

722 GT

722 GT- improved version 722 Edition designed for competition. The cars were built by Ray Mallock Ltd. with the permission of Mercedes-Benz. The cars are fitted with a new wide body kit to match the 19-inch OZ racing wheels. Installed racing wing and diffuser.

The car has become lighter by 398 kg (up to 1300 kg). The engine now has 680 hp. and a torque of 830 N m at a boost pressure of 1.75 atmospheres. In total, it is planned to release 21 copies, which will be used only for racing. The cost of each is €750,000.

ROADSTER

The open version of the SLR (body code R199) went on sale in September 2007 at a price of €493,000. The same engine was installed in the roadster as in the coupe. The roadster is 60 kg heavier than the coupe, which reduces the top speed to 332 km/h. The car has a soft folding top with electric drive. After opening the roof latch, it automatically folds in 10 seconds. According to official documentation, the cab design allows the driver to communicate with the passenger at speeds up to 200 km/h with the soft top folded down.

The last roadster came down in early 2009, after which the conveyor was stopped. In this regard, an auction was organized. The car was painted in a special color - metallic brown (Sienna Pearl), and the interior is covered with Tobacco Brown leather.

ROADSTER 722S

The 722 S was unveiled at the 2008 Paris Motor Show. A new carbon-fiber body kit, a double diffuser and a trunk lid modified to create more downforce were installed on the car. Also installed adjustable suspension and reconfigured steering.

TUNING

MANSORY

A modified model from tuning studio Mansory was presented to the public at the Geneva Motor Show in 2008. Renovatio is a product of engineering philosophy "Evolution instead of revolution". The result is a large number of aerodynamic improvements, such as a new carbon-fiber body kit aimed at emphasizing the car's sporty line. The engine has also been modified: a more efficient turbine has been installed, an improved exhaust system, an optimized engine management program, a new air cooler and filter. Engine power and torque increased to 700 hp. and 880 Nm, respectively, which improved acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds and top speed to 340 km/h.

EDO COMPETITION

The German tuning studio Edo Competition has presented its vision of tuning for the SLR, which received the postscript 722 Black Arrow from the tuners. But despite the "722" in the name and applied coloring, the car has nothing to do with either the SLR 722 Edition or the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR, which had the same applied during the Mille Miglia race. These figures reflect the power of the engine - 722 hp. (at 7100 rpm) - this is how much the power unit produces after flashing the engine control unit and the modified intake and exhaust systems. In addition, the torque has been increased to 890 Nm. Up to a hundred, the modified version accelerates in 3.4 seconds and has a top speed of 345 km/h.

WHEELSANDMORE

German specialists from the tuning studio Wheelsandmore presented to the world community what the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren will look like after their tuning. The name of the German car received the ending 707 Edition. The numbers indicate the power of the engine, which has been increased from 626 to 707 hp, thanks to the readjustment of the control unit, a new high-pressure turbine and a sports exhaust system. As a result, a 1750-kilogram car needs only 3.5 seconds to accelerate to the first hundred, and its maximum speed on the speedometer exceeds 340 km / h.
