New Kia seed concept. KIA Proceed Concept - the world premiere of the concept car

15.10.2019

F Frankfurt am Main, September 7, 2017 - KIA Motors unveils the Proceed Concept ahead of its world premiere at the Frankfurt International Motor Show on September 12, 2017.

The concept car was created at Kia's European Design Center in Frankfurt, just 500 meters from the world premiere site. The Proceed Concept gives a glimpse of what the next generation of Kia's popular model family could look like.

The concept car received a new body type for the KIA brand - fastback. It emphasizes the continuity of the dynamic character of the model, while the effective and bright appearance is combined with the practicality necessary for everyday use. Designed for a new generation of drivers, the car embodies Kia's vision for the future of the model.

Gregory Guillaume, Chief Designer of the European division of KIA Motors, talks about the new product: “Now many drivers in Europe are looking for an alternative to three-door hot hatchbacks and do not want to lose power and dynamics. It is this trend that inspired us to create a model that could become a new symbol of the family . The Proceed Concept is a bold new take on how a model can transform to meet the aspirations of today's fast-paced drivers."

Squat, light and streamlined, the Proceed Concept silhouette was created through a series of eye-catching design cues. The dynamic glazing line follows the curve of the roof all the way to the tailgate, while the absence of B-pillars is compensated by a shark fin trim with the GT logo, while longitudinal inlays on the lower sides complete the vehicle's sporty appearance. The concept car is equipped with 20-inch aluminum alloy wheels in the form of a complex star shape with six rays.

Today, daytime running lights have become one of the most important elements of vehicle recognition. However, Proceed Concept uses new lighting technologies in a different way. The concept received a Lumiline light line - a characteristic illuminated contour framing the glazing area. This circuit lights up to greet the driver as he approaches the vehicle. This solution not only makes the Proceed Concept easy to spot at night, but also emphasizes the sporty silhouette of the body.

Despite many new design solutions, the Proceed Concept retained many of the characteristic features of the entire KIA model line. The radiator grille is made in the corporate style “Tiger smile” (“tiger nose”), the elaborate lines of the hood echo the recently debuted KIA Stinger. The concept car received the recognizable outlines of the windshield, the glazing of the roof along the entire length and the unique combination of curved smooth surfaces and detailed edges, for which the brand's design is known. Each of these decisions emphasizes that the Proceed Concept is a true representative of the modern KIA model range.

The concept car is painted in a specially designed Lava Red. The technology for creating the coloring consists in the multi-layer application of manually layers of black, silver with a chrome effect and red tinted varnish.

The official premiere of the Proceed Concept will take place on September 12 at the KIA booth located in Hall 9 of the Frankfurt Messe exhibition center.

Today, as part of the International Frankfurt Motor Show IAA-2017, a new concept car KIA Proceed Concept was presented. Designed at Kia's European Design Center in Frankfurt, the concept car demonstrates the capabilities of the next generation of the popular cee'd compact car family.

According to Gregory Guillaume, Chief Designer of KIA Motors Europe, the Proceed Concept extended hatchback is a clear example of a bright representative of the new generation of the cee'd family. The concept model, which inherits elements of sportiness from its predecessor pro ceed, looks powerful and dynamic, emphasizing the emotions and passion of the creators for fast cars.

Since its release in 2008, the pro_cee'd model has always been a model of power and dynamics in the cee'd family. Introduced in 2012, the successor is not inferior in terms of dynamic performance.

The new extended model with a spacious interior will be an excellent alternative to traditional three-door hot hatchbacks. The Proceed Concept is a self-contained body style that combines a sporty look with striking looks and practicality.

Exterior: presentable appearance, compact size

With a squat, light and streamlined silhouette, the Proceed Concept looks imposing despite its fairly compact proportions. In the exterior of the car, the characteristic silhouette outlines attract attention:
  • the line of the glazing zone, which continues to the tailgate, gives the car dynamism;
  • glass roof, complemented by a decorative element in the form of a shark fin;
  • longitudinal inserts at the bottom of the body sidewalls, completing the sporty image of the car.
The manufacturer paid special attention to the head optics to ensure that the car is recognizable during the day, and even in deep darkness. The model is equipped with the original Luminline lighting solution – an illuminated framing of the glazing area, as well as diffused red illumination of the headlights.

Other exterior elements include:

  • vertical double openings of the rear air ducts;
  • grille, made in the style of "Tiger Nose";
  • embossed hood and characteristic angular shape of the windshield;
  • large 20" alloy wheels with a six-pointed star pattern;
  • corrugated surface of the rear light strip.
The new concept car received an exclusive design color scheme - Lava Red, the creation of which took the developers a lot of time. To achieve the desired result, the designers hand-applied 19 coats of black paint, silver chrome effect paint and red lacquer for tinting. Incredibly deep, rich color emphasizes the silhouette of the body, organically combining smooth and strict lines.

Salon design in Haute Couture style

According to Gregory Guillaume, when creating the Proceed Concept, special attention was paid to the color scheme of both the body and the interior of the car in order to achieve absolute harmony. To achieve the desired result and create a truly unique environment in the cabin, the designers drew inspiration from the world of Haute Couture, where a special charm is created using innovative materials, which is unusual for the automotive industry. The designers wrapped the seats in multiple layers of black elastane, which was then cut and hand-fitted to achieve a ribbed, rough upholstery effect that contrasts sharply with the smooth and shiny front fascia.

The Lava Red color scheme, reflecting the indomitability of an erupting volcano, visually unifies the exterior and interior of the car. Shades range from light fiery red to dark charcoal gray and deep black. The dashboard and steering wheel are made in the same color as the body, organically complementing each other. The door panels are upholstered in a shiny, hand-dyed material that varies in gradients from bright red to deep black.

On the instrument panel and the monitor of the multimedia system, three driving modes are displayed, made in different colors:

  • sports GT-mode Lava Red - in red;
  • eco-mode Forest Green - in green;
  • automatic mode Ghost White - in white.
The contours of the four separate seats, connected in pairs, resemble a waveform, an analogue of which can be traced in the cabin of the KIA Provo concept car, presented at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. Separated from the base, the upper parts of the backrests with integrated headrests have an integrated metal frame, providing strength and lightness to the seats.

The ergonomic center console with a minimalist design is conveniently located aluminum controls for various systems. At the bottom, the console is framed by carbon fiber that runs the length of the cabin.

A unique feature of the car is the "Memory Bank" built into the front panel - a shelf where a trio of evocative aromas are stored. Guillaume said that each bottle is engraved and filled with its own unique smell: power, passion and drive, which a true car enthusiast will certainly recognize:

  • the warm, musky scent of old leather;
  • the oily smell of the garage;
  • sharp aromatic tint of sports gasoline with a high octane number.
Concluding his story, Gregory Guillaume noted that the main idea of the Proceed Concept, like all Kia concept cars, is the ability to demonstrate to others what we are and what we can become.

The promising concept car Kia Proceed, for the first time back in late summer, is finally presented live at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Squat silhouette, interior shifted back, frameless doors, 20-inch wheels ... Beautiful! Moreover, the concept was “drawn” literally half a kilometer from the exhibition complex: the German design studio Kia, headed by Gregory Guillaume, is located in Frankfurt.

The front panel in body color visually continues the surface of the hood. All devices are virtual, instead of armchairs there are cradles for four combined with each other. And under the front panel there is a huge drawer in which bottles with flavors are hidden. Moreover, instead of perfumes, Koreans offer to inhale completely different aromas - old leather upholstery, a garage soaked in machine oil or high-octane gasoline.

All this is good, but how much of this bright car will remain with the serial Sid of the next generation? Alas, it is not worth deceiving yourself. Along with flavorings, many other features will also disappear.

Actually, only the general style and shape of the five-door body will be preserved: in the lineup, such a liftback will take the place of the current three-door Kia pro_cee "d. The parent brand Hyundai has already implemented the same strategy, replacing the three-door i30 with a coupe. In addition, the range of the new Sid will include two more body types: it is easy to guess that this is a traditional short-tailed hatchback and station wagon.

Rear-wheel drive proportions will disappear: the new cee'd will retain the front-wheel drive platform, so you can forget about the short front overhang and the large “prestige distance” (between the front edge of the door and the wheel arch). Rear-wheel drive in the Kia range will only be on the larger Stinger and Quoris models. Frames will appear at the doors, central pillars will appear at the body, instead of 20-inch rollers, wheels will be installed standard for such machines. And the serial interior is unlikely to inherit anything from the concept at all.

But do not rush to get upset. Even with all the reservations, the future cee "d and Procced promise to be bright and pretty cars. True, you will have to wait a few more months before they appear: according to preliminary information, the premiere will take place next spring at the Geneva Motor Show.

KIA Motors at the Frankfurt International Motor Show IAA-2017 introduced a very curious novelty - a concept car called Proceed.

The concept shown in the images is an elongated hatchback. The line framing the glazing area continues all the way to the tailgate, emphasizing the car's dynamic proportions. The combination of a glass roof and a shark fin trim with GT logo visually compensates for the lack of B-pillars.

Other visual highlights include diffused red main headlights, vertical twin rear air vents and large 20-inch alloy wheels with an intricate six-pointed star pattern and center nuts.

The bodywork of the Proceed received a unique Lava Red finish, a color that was the result of painstaking work by experts. Lava Red is a combination of a total of 19 hand-applied coats of black, silver chrome effect paint and red tinted lacquer.

The instrument panel and the horizontal display panel of the multimedia system intuitively display three driving modes. Each received its own color designation: Lava Red is responsible for the sports GT mode, Forest Green is the Eco mode, Ghost White is the Autonomous unmanned mode.

The cabin has four separate, but connected in pairs of chairs. Made in the form of separate elements, the upper parts of the backrests with integrated headrests are held by metal “exoskeletons”.

About the power plant, transmission and other units of the car, nothing has been reported yet.

“The Proceed Concept is our bold take on what the next generation of the cee’d family could be. Inheriting the sporty spirit of the current pro_cee'd, the Proceed Concept has become a stretched hatchback that embodies power and dynamics. It is an expression of our emotions and passion for fast cars. Transformed pro_cee'd, became more beautiful than ever, ”- manufacturer declares.
