Volkswagen Polo, which is among the ten best-selling cars in European countries, is in great demand. Produced since 1975, the car has gone through five generations and many restylings.

The sedan model deserves special attention. In Russia, the Polo sedan is one of the most popular exhibits assembled at the Kaluga Automobile Plant. Reliable, easy to use, dynamic and designed specifically for Russian roads - this is how the B-segment model can be characterized in general terms.

And now: what exactly did the manufacturer prepare in 2015?

How fast … cars are growing. It seems like yesterday we saw a Polo with “square” straight lines of the body, which could be recognized from a kilometer away. But that was 40 years ago. A lot has changed since then. From generation to generation, the car grew, acquiring the solid appearance of a modern gentleman with a slender, sporty character.

Today, models from many manufacturers can be compared with each other - they are so similar. So the 2015 Polo has family features in the exterior, similar to the Jetta body design. For the owners of a new instance of German technology, the similarity is, of course, a huge plus, which cannot be said about the owners of prestigious versions, who are unlikely to be pleased with the release of a fresh Polo.

It is worth noting the lighting technology, which is precisely the key to creating an expressive appearance of the sedan. For the first time, a “state employee” in the basic configuration is equipped not only with a set of LED “decorations”, but also with bi-xenon headlights. "Cherry on the cake" - a built-in headlight washer, which even some top-end cars cannot boast of.

Immediately it is necessary to say about the "foglights". Now they are not only used as a source of additional lighting, but also have the function of cornering illumination.

The rear lights, fitting compactly into the space of the car's stern, are naturally also equipped with LED lights.

The radiator grill has become noticeably wider. The mesh is chrome-plated. The usual VW brand logo was placed in the center.

The hood added aggression, became more convex, embossed. Looking at this miracle of an aerodynamic solution, you feel at the same time unsurpassed respectability and an unprecedented sporty mood of the car.

Among the innovations, it is worth mentioning the side rear-view mirrors. The Germans built LED design into the repeaters, and the elements themselves were equipped with an electric drive, which is triggered by simply pressing a button in the car.

For different configurations, the Germans prepared both steel and alloy wheels with sizes of 14 and 15 inches, respectively. They come with full-size caps of the original design.

Dimensions correspond to the representative nature of the sedan: length - 4390 mm, width - 1699 mm, height - 1467 mm. Ground clearance is made with the calculation of the conditions of the Russian "off-road" - 170 mm - a low bow to the German manufacturer.

European Volkswagen Polo hatchbacks look better inside than our Kaluga sedans. If in European models only high-quality materials are used for interior trim, then in “our” cars the quality leaves much to be desired. Probably, if the manufacturer did not reduce the cost of the interior of the car, then the sedan would cost much more than the "budget" prices.

But this is more of a quibble: the fabric is still pleasant to the touch and will withstand a large number of trips. The color is also admirable and pleasing to the eye. Especially for the Highline package. The two-tone range is a new “feature” of many modern manufacturers. The sedan perfectly combines beige with black.

Designers have not forgotten about ergonomics or about the amount of free space. All the necessary functions are at hand, and there is enough space for a person of any build. The latter concerns the situation “in the rear” of the cabin - three passengers can comfortably fit in the rear seats.

In addition, it should be noted that the driver's seat has many adjustments and electric heating with two modes of operation.

The steering column is adjustable for reach, and the steering wheel itself has received a fashionable "cropped" design, confirming the dynamics of the interior of the sedan. The presence of multimedia complex control buttons on the steering wheel has already become a classic for modern models.

The infotainment system has not changed much: a small touch screen is installed in the center, below it is an audio system with a USB input. The entire panel is encased in a smooth matte chrome finish.

The luggage compartment corresponds to the solid style of the car, surprising with its size - 460 liters. The rear seats fold down to double the space. There is also an LED backlight so you don't have to look for the right thing in the dark.

Finally, the variety of different sensors and options included in the kits is striking. These include front and rear parking sensors, rain and light sensors, adaptive cruise control, heated windshield and side mirrors, air conditioning and a huge security package.

Technical equipment

For all four trim levels presented on the Russian market, the Germans assembled a new 1.6-liter gasoline engine.

The basic version is equipped with a 1.6-liter unit with 4 cylinders and 85 hp. The maximum torque is 145 Nm. The maximum speed is 179 km / h. Up to "hundreds" the car can accelerate in 11.9 seconds. In mixed mode, the engine consumes 6.4 liters. Works in tandem with a 5-speed manual transmission.

Further, the same unit with 4 cylinders. But he has more return - 105 hp. with a torque of 153 Nm. "Maximum speed" - 190 km / h. Acceleration to 100 km / h is feasible in 10.5 seconds. Fuel consumes the same - 6.4 liters. Transmission - "mechanics" with 5 ranges.

The third setting has the same characteristics as the previous unit. The only difference is in the transmission configuration - here the consumer receives a full-fledged "automatic" with 6 gears.

A huge advantage of the car is the ratio of price and a large set of functions, some of which are hard to find on the analogues of the presented model. In the Russian market, the sedan of 2015 will even better consolidate its position in its class thanks to its attractive appearance, interior “chips” exclusive to the “state employees” and solid engine compartment characteristics.

The time when designers tried to make cars in the minimum configuration, thereby significantly reducing the cost of them, is long gone. Now many car manufacturers are trying to justify the rather high prices for their products with good interior design and quality parts. The Polo Sedan is also one of those cars. After restyling, he got more chrome in the cabin and on the body, bi-xenon headlights were added. The car warranty has been extended to three years.

Volkswagen Polo Sedan is perfectly adapted to Russian conditions, which means the presence of reinforced suspension elements. In addition, the standard equipment of even the most inexpensive version includes power steering with variable efficiency depending on the speed. According to the manufacturer, the body of the Polo Sedan is protected from corrosion using special enamels that are resistant to aggressive external factors. The wheelbase of the sedan is 2552 mm (versus 2470 for the hatchback), which provides it with a fairly spacious interior for its class and a roomy luggage compartment (the minimum volume is 460 liters).

Of the security systems, the basic equipment of the Polo Sedan (Conceptline) includes 3-point belts for all seats, frontal airbags, ABS, Isofix mounts in the rear seat, daytime running lights, headlight range adjustment. For Trendline and above, rear disc brakes are offered (for all versions with a 90 hp engine - drum brakes at the rear), and with the Safety package, side airbags, ESP stabilization system are available (standard for Highline and GT with 7- step automatic transmission). Therefore, immediately after the release of the first installments in June 2015, its sales immediately jumped - fans have been waiting for a surprise for a long time.

But it turned out that the facelift was just the beginning of a campaign to upgrade the Volkswagen Polo. In November 2015, new power units appeared at the Kaluga plant. Both 1.6-liter CFNA petrols received a fresh serial number - EA211 and a good increase of 5 hp. Now under the hood there are two motors for 90 and 110 hp. Both comply with the Euro-5 standard and have a torque of 155 Nm. The maximum speed for the 90-horsepower “engine” is 178 km / h, for the “senior” - 191 km / h. On a 5-speed "mechanics" you can accelerate to "hundreds" in 11.2 or 10.4 seconds, depending on engine power. With an automatic transmission for 6 ranges, things will not go so quickly - 11.7 seconds.

The plans of the German concern for the Russian market also include a sports version of the Polo sedan with the abbreviation GT. A 1.4-liter turbocharged TSI and a 7-speed DSG “robot” will be prepared for it. The power of the new power plant will reach 125 hp. The Germans promise to equip the rear sedan with disc brakes, as well as install 16-inch alloy wheels. The premiere should take place in 2016. There is no other news on the "athlete" yet.

As for the interior, which has gone through restyling, the interior still retains the Spartan spirit. Ergonomically, pragmatically and soundly, as before. Controls are within walking distance. The meanings of the buttons, which are not too much scattered around the center console, are intuitive even for a novice driver. The fit of the materials is of high quality. Backlash, of course, will declare itself in the future, but this is a traditional problem for all German models.

Internal changes after restyling

It is immediately worth noting, which Polo owners of early versions continuously complained about. The Germans took into account the wishes of Russian fans and laid additional layers of "Shumka" in the engine shield, window seals, front pillars, rear arches and luggage compartment.

In top trim levels, a new one catches the eye, as in sports cars. But even in Highline, the sets of buttons on the spokes for controlling the multimedia system look very concise.

In the "base" of the Volkswagen in the new body, you can find a very good selection of functions. , which have received new upholstery options, can be independently adjusted in height using a manual mechanism. The same goes for the steering column - the angle and reach are selected quite simply. Management facilitates the electric booster. Power windows are installed front and rear. The dashboard has got a new on-board computer screen in black and white design. And ABS and two front airbags are responsible for safety.

The trendline differs from the basic configuration only in the presence of an air conditioner. Therefore, both versions are approximately in the same price category. However, if the initial equipment can only be purchased with a 5-speed manual transmission, then Trendline provides a choice between "mechanics" and "automatic".

Comfortline is already far ahead of the curve. Of course: 15-inch wheels, heated front seats and mirrors, a modern RCD220 system with 4 speakers and MP3 support. The exterior door handles and mirror housings are painted in the same color as the body. The rear sofa can be folded in a ratio of 60:40, making room for a spacious trunk that can hold 460 liters.

The maximum configuration is equipped with only a 110-horsepower engine, and the standard equipment includes a huge range of comfort features. Full power accessories, climate control, front, RCD320 stereo system, Cell fabric upholstery in two shades (black or beige), automatic windows, front and rear parking sensors, as well as a modern “multimedia” with a color display and a set of MirrorLink functions are available here.

In the first quarter of 2016, the updated car received not only the new Savanna yellow, which is ideal for some corporate employees and taxi drivers, but also the AllStar special version, which received a large “winter” option package. Increased battery capacity, more powerful starter, improved wiring of the starting system and cold start of the “engine” at temperatures down to -36 degrees - all this is complemented by the optional Hot Star package, which includes heated windshield, front seats and washer nozzles. Slightly more expensive is the Design Star package, which includes 15-inch Linas alloy wheels, tinted rear windows and security bolts.

Exclusive to AllStar, a new color is offered - Copper Orange. The RCD230 with MP3 support and USB input is already available as standard on the car. All doors have power windows. The side mirrors are equipped with everything you need: heating, electric drive and turn signal repeaters. A three-year warranty applies to the special version, and it is extended to 12 years for the body!

Inside, new Pentastripe Anthracite upholstery, a leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel, Silver Silk Matt aluminum inserts and stylish pedal covers are available.

By 2017, the German manufacturer promises to show the Russian political scientists another restyling, which will be based on the updated MQB trolley. Probably, by that time, in order to distinguish the Polo sedan from its closest relative, the Jetta, you will have to look at the details of the exterior under a magnifying glass.
