Jaguar's all-wheel drive system distributes most of the torque to the rear wheels. When switching to winter driving mode, 30 to 50 percent of traction is transferred to the front wheels.
The XJ is a charismatic car with a more efficient automated control system than some of its competitors. The independent multi-link suspension, electronically adjustable rear air springs and electric rear differential control do their job well. Although the Jaguar has a narrower range of engines compared to competitors, it wins in another way. The sedan responds to each “command” more clearly and predictably. The new generation XJ is far removed from the Jaguars of the past. Driving performance is now perfectly combined with athleticism and strength. XJ surpasses many cars in its weight category, the presence of an adaptive suspension and the ability of electronics to filter out small bumps in the road. Large, ventilated brake discs with a drying function and good pedal response add decisiveness, while 20-inch tires provide reliable traction.
Comfort and quality
Surprisingly, despite its stately exterior and chic interior trim, the XJ lacks space inside.
Passengers in the front are very comfortable, although the wide center console leaves little room for the knees. A stylishly sloping roofline limits headroom for rear passengers. In fact, of all premium sedans, rear passengers are the most disadvantaged here. Long wheelbase models provide more rear legroom, but all also have limited headroom under the sloping roofline.
The new entertainment system for passengers in the rear seats went only to the XJ with an increased wheelbase. It features two 10.2-inch high-definition screens that passengers can connect their electronic devices to via two USB 3.0 ports and even HDMI.
For front passengers, adjustable seats with a massage function are provided. Both the front and rear seats are equipped with a standard ventilation and heating system.
Immersed in the luxury of chrome finishes, wood and leather, the interior looks incredibly beautiful and representative. But with a lot of shiny details, the manufacturers obviously went too far. The wood-paneled cabin gives the Jaguar XJ a luxurious feel and leaves other contenders far behind.
Unlike class-equal German cars, the Briton's rear seats are just as well-equipped as the front ones.

Safety
The aerospace-inspired design of the XJ is enhanced for safety. All models are equipped with a mandatory set of airbags and stability control along with other modern safety measures.
Additionally, a rear-view camera is included as standard, which helps to make up for the lack of rearward visibility. The blind spot monitoring system warns the driver when a vehicle is approaching in either lane on either side. The XJ does not offer a night vision device and a lane keeping system. In 2006, Jaguar continued the process of improving the entire range of XJ sedans. Sound-absorbing laminated side windows are used to reduce the level of noise penetrating into the passenger compartment, and the most modern tire pressure monitoring system determines its drop in all five wheels, including the spare. A new braking system with larger discs and stiffer calipers improves the XJ's already high braking performance.
In 2009, there was a radical update of the Jaguar XJ, it remained luxurious as before, but acquired futuristic features in body lines and became even more impetuous. The appearance turned out to be bright: an updated radiator grille, teardrop-shaped windows, a cat-like cut of the headlights. Xenon headlights are equipped with LED backlight and a sensor that automatically switches between high and low beam. The designers have done everything so that the car does not lose its classic charm. Squinted headlights, vertical taillights, bonnet and sidewall embossing or an imposing grille give the XJ a distinctive, luxurious charm.
The car has become a little longer and wider, but most importantly, the body configuration has changed dramatically. The classic three-volume sedan with a pronounced trunk has been replaced by the now fashionable four-door coupe concept, which from a distance can be mistaken for a two-volume body with a roof line falling back, in which the trunk lid opens along with the rear window. The updated Jaguar XJ has a remarkably low drag coefficient of 0.29.

The classic layout of the controls in the Jaguar XJ seamlessly echoes the latest technical solutions. At the choice of the buyer, the Jaguar XJ can be equipped with various types of engines: from a three-liter diesel engine with twin turbocharging to a five-liter gasoline unit capable of delivering 510 hp. with amazing torque. All modifications of the car are equipped with an automatic six-speed gearbox, created in the laboratories of the German concern ZF. The top-end sedan can accelerate to hundreds in just 4.5 seconds. In the summer of 2015, the British automaker presented once again the updated Jaguar XJ. The flagship of the "cat" brand received minor changes in appearance, new equipment and improved steering.
The appearance of the sedan has changed slightly. The facelifted 2015 XJ can be distinguished from its predecessor by slightly different full-LED headlight patterns and a larger and steeper grille. In the top configuration, the air intakes are underlined with chrome. The graphics of the characteristic elongated rear lights have changed slightly, and the exhaust pipes have acquired an oval shape. The car has a classic look with excellent design that attracts the eye, but at the same time does not have defiant features.
As before, the 2015 Jaguar XJ is available in two wheelbases – standard (SWB) and extended (LWB). In the first version, the overall length of the sedan is 5,130 mm (the wheelbase is 3,032), in the second it is 5,255 (the wheelbase is 3,157). The width of the car is 1,899 millimeters, the height is 1,460.
The main innovation in the cabin is the InControl Touch Pro infotainment system with a quad-core Intel processor, an eight-inch touch screen, a 60 GB hard drive and smartphone integration. There is navigation, Wi-Fi, a Meridian audio system with 26 speakers with a power of 1,300 watts. The sedan is offered with adaptive cruise control, all-round cameras and a semi-automatic parking system.
Jaguar XJ 2015 received two new modifications: Autobiography and R-Sport.
The R-Sport version sports an aggressive front bumper, side skirts, an air intake with electric curtains, a small spoiler on the trunk lid, a quartet of exhaust pipes, sports seats and a branded steering wheel, trim in the center console in black piano lacquer and 20-inch Mataivia wheels.
The luxury Autobiography trim is only available on the long wheelbase XJ LWB. It features a leather interior with contrast stitching, illuminated stainless steel sills, natural oak trim, separate rear seats with massage and ventilation functions, and 10.2-inch displays in the backs of the front seats.
The line of power units consists of powerful engines. All of them come with direct injection and variable valve timing.
After the modernization, the output of the 3.0-liter diesel engine increased from the previous 275 to 300 hp, and the peak torque reached 700 Nm against 600 before. The engineers managed to achieve this by improving the turbocharging and injection system. This motor accelerates the car to 100 km / h in 6.2 seconds (was 6.4 seconds) and has a low emission of harmful substances of 149 g / km, complying with Euro-6 standards.
Gasoline engines are a two-liter “four” (240 hp, 340 N m), a three-liter “six” (340 hp, 450 N m) and a five-liter “eight” in three versions (470 hp, 575 Nm, 510 hp, 625 Nm or 550 hp, 680 Nm).
The gearbox for all versions is the same - an eight-speed automatic ZF: 8HP70 or a more compact 8HP45. Drive — rear and full.
In addition, hydraulic power steering has given way to electric EPAS, which has a beneficial effect on handling and has reduced average fuel consumption in the combined cycle by 3%.
