2. The Ford Sollers plant in Vsevolozhsk was founded in 2002 and became the first full-cycle automobile enterprise opened by a foreign company in Russia. The plant "Russian Diesel" was chosen to organize production. This fact made it possible to avoid the cost of building buildings, but imposed significant restrictions on production areas. Ford technologists had to think hard before writing technological process within such tight limits. But they did it. Until 2011, the Vsevolozhsk plant was the only Ford plant in Europe that produced Ford Focus cars in all four body modifications: station wagon, sedan, five-door and three-door hatchback of the first and second generations.
3. The life of every new car at this Ford plant starts from scratch - from a set of parts, fasteners, seals and plastics. This process takes about 14 hours and the first thing that the future Ford has to go through is the welding shop. Not unimportant is the fact that welding machines are robotic. A person just brings it to the place of welding. Power and duration of welding are programmed.
6. The result of the work of each section of the welding shop are ready-made elements of the future body. For example, side panels that are sent to another site for further welding.
7. At this stage, robots come into play. Six four-armed welding robots are working at the plant at the same time.
8. These smart and high-precision machines assemble the body of the new Ford from individual elements. It takes them several minutes to do everything about everything, during which the body is boiled from all sides, turning over several times like a feather in the robot's hydraulic hands. It looks like a scene from a sci-fi movie, but it's reality - machines make machines.
9. All body parts come already galvanized. Therefore, the assembled, but not yet painted Ford already looks attractive, gleaming with silvery edges. After the welding robots, the conveyor delivers the bodies back to the person.
10. Here, thresholds are welded on two parallel lines and then the baton is passed back to the robots. So, as a result of the joint work of people of machines, the body of a brand new Ford Focus and Ford Mondeo is created.
11. Before continuing on their way, the assembled bodies are sent to check the geometry at a special Carl Zeiss stand. Permissible deviation from the norm - tenths of a millimeter. Every third assembled body is checked. Bodies that have not passed the test are mercilessly rejected, but such cases are extremely rare.
12. Successfully passed body checks are sent to the primary assembly conveyor. Here they are overgrown with a hood, trunk lid, fenders and, of course, doors. This does not happen immediately, but gradually as you move along the conveyor. For example, in this area a rear left door, and a little later the front right, and then the left fender and so on.
13. Thanks to this approach, the assembler does not spread himself over several types of work, but performs only one operation, bringing the accuracy and efficiency of his actions to perfection. Periodically there is a rotation of personnel in order to avoid "cycling" of employees on only one type of work.
14. The body assembled on the primary conveyor is sent to the painting shop, access to which is strictly closed to any unauthorized persons, in order to avoid even the slightest dust ingress. Painting takes several hours, after which the Ford assembly continues on the next conveyor, where in 2 hours and 42 minutes it will look like a finished car from a painted piece of iron.
15. At the initial stage, the doors are removed from the painted body. They will join it again after the installation of window lift mechanisms, the windows themselves and door locks, noise insulation, upholstery and other elements, depending on the configuration.
16. While this is happening, the body itself is overgrown with sound insulation, seals, electrical wiring lines, airbags, a pedal block, brake pipes, air-conditioned. In order for the assembly worker to know what parts he needs to install on a particular car, a manifest is fixed on the body - a special document on the vehicle configuration.

It is important to note that if during the assembly process, suddenly, something went wrong, for example, the worker dropped the fixing bolt into the internal cavity of the car, then he must immediately inform the shift supervisor about this and make a note in the corresponding document. The car, depending on the situation, is either immediately removed from the line, or the defect is eliminated later. In particular, attempts will be made to shake out the fallen bolt and somehow remove it. In any case, a car with a jingling foreign object in the body cavity will not fall into the hands of the end consumer.
19. Each new section adds new details to the car. So on the future Ford appears grille, upholstery, dashboard, controls and more. Here, on a par with people, another robot works - a glass installer. It is used for greater accuracy in applying the adhesive and the complete elimination of leaks during operation. The list of installed parts is huge and reaches several hundred, if not thousands, of positions. When using a car, its owner does not even suspect how much work has been done to create it.
20. Next, the car goes to the so-called "chassis" line, where the engine and transmission are installed on it. There is a "marriage" or "wedding" - this is how the assemblers call the moment of connection between the transmission and the body.

23. Completely finished car enters the control room. Here, the assembly quality is checked, the joints are examined, the quality of the paint and varnish coating, the operation of electronic systems, lighting devices is checked.

Ford Mondeo and Ford Focus have long been assembled in full cycle. But, not in Yelabuga, but in Vsevolzhsk. Ford Explorer became the third model in this list. The company spent $100 million on its production lines. This is very little.

The body is welded for nine hours. In total, Ford Explorer has 55 assembly lines. The parts are not cooked by robots, but by people with special equipment. Here, 800 points are analyzed, and if they deviate from the norm by more than 1.5 millimeters, everything is redone. Only two bodies are checked per shift. Therefore, the laboratory works selectively.
The engine for the Ford Explorer is not assembled at the Russian plant. He comes to us already assembled. The interesting thing is that with the help of the QLS electronic system, you can look at how the car you bought was made at any stage.
After assembly, the Ford Explorer is tested at the test site. All cars make five laps. Of course, they don’t accelerate the car on the track, but check it for squeaks and noises. The test circle is covered with a canopy and teeming with various obstacles. On some sections there are signs for 20, 40 and 50 kilometers, and no more. For five laps, the driver will be able to hear all the knocks and noises. And, if only selected bodies are checked for geometry, then all cars are tested on the track.
Please note that before the model enters the salon official dealer, it can roll up to 50 kilometers. If the mileage on the speedometer remains zero, then know that the factory has the right to twist the meter when the car has not traveled 200 kilometers. Selectively, some models pass a test drive in off-road or city conditions. In this case, a paper will appear in the glove compartment of the new car, certifying that the model was checked.
Our factory assembles the Ford Explorer Sport with a gasoline engine and a power of 360 horsepower. They reconfigure the suspension, remake the power steering and install new springs. Ford factory problems
In the European market, some car companies have to take forced measures due to the crisis. A few months ago, the Ford concern closed another plant, which is located in Belgium. This enterprise is actually very large, and no one expected such a turn of events.
But that is not all bad news for the Ford company. Two of their factories in the UK will soon close. We are talking about assembly shops in Southampton and Dagenham. Thus, the concern is trying to recover the losses. According to the latest data, this year they will amount to 1.2 million euros.
Mass layoffs of workers, of course, will not affect the assembly of cars in any way, but they will hit the image of the company. In Southampton, about 500 employees will be laid off. In Dagenham, 1,000 people will lose their jobs.
On this moment in England alone, the Ford plant employs approximately 11.4 thousand people. After the closure of two enterprises, a workshop for assembling motors and gearboxes will remain in this country.
The last time the factories stopped ten years ago. Then 2000 people were fired. The reason for the closure is known to all. It turns out that production both this and last time was unprofitable. For example, Southampton can produce 200,000 cars a year. Now even a third does not leave the assembly line.
The head of the European representative office of the Ford company does not comment on the situation. But, he is going to hold a conference with representatives of British industries. British parliamentarians note that they are very concerned about the fate of enterprises. Indeed, in this case, many people will be left without work. And the industry in the UK will also suffer.
After the factories close, Ford's output will drop by 18% as more than 355,000 units will not be produced. But, it will save more than 500 million euros annually.
