Difficulties can arise in creating a good transition and in how well the paint will lay down on the surface. But if this business is entrusted to professionals, then there will be no problems. The main thing is to first familiarize yourself with.

The paint with which it is planned to paint the car must have good hiding power, its leakage under the adhesive tape is unacceptable. If you need to paint small elements, then it is advisable to use powder paint, it is applied quite evenly. But it is not recommended to completely paint the car only with her, as obvious overflows will be noticeable.

If you darken the edges of elements, corners, you can create a visual effect of volume. There may not be clear boundaries between shades, a smooth transition from one color to another also looks great. But this transition is quite difficult to make, so you need a confident hand of a master who has professional skills.

Painting a car in two colors: tools and materials

Color combinations for cars can be a great variety. It all depends on the wishes of the car owner and his taste. The main thing is not to go to extremes and choose for your " iron horse» stylish and dignified frame.

In order to paint a car correctly and without problems, you need knowledge, tools and materials. This may apply to both painting and individual elements.

Materials that will come in handy when giving a new look to your car:

  • Compressor,
  • Covering materials (film, all kinds of capes, adhesive tape)
  • Airbrush,
  • Paint, varnishes,
  • Solvent
  • Priming
  • Container for stirring
  • Respirator or special mask
  • Polishing tools
It is important to pay attention to the room in which the work will be carried out. It must be prepared, cleaned. After all, all the dust will instantly settle on a painted car, as soon as paint is applied to it. Which will adversely affect the result of staining. The old coating on the machine is removed. Usually sandpaper is used for this.

Car painting: 2 colors or more?

Many car owners who want to make their car creative, bright and leading on the road are wondering: “can I paint the car in several colors?”. Of course, no one forbids this. A matter of taste. But…

As a rule, different colors for painting a car (more than two) look ridiculous, pretentious and certainly tasteless. This option is suitable for outrageous car owners.

If your goal is to transform your car, make it newer, more beautiful and original through a combination of colors, then a combination of two colors will be enough. If you are planning to conduct such an experiment on your vehicle, then you should not be independent, because the result of the work depends on professionalism, skills and correctly used materials and tools. It is important to follow the entire technological process from preparing the car for painting to the final stages, grinding and taking into account other nuances. If you want to be satisfied with the result - contact us!

- it's not a simple matter. Skills for working with various types paints, knowledge of polishing technology, application of the composition and features of enamel are of key importance. The appearance of the machine, the evenness of the surface and the compliance with your expectations depend on them.

A combination of dark black with bright red, a symbiosis of olive with pastel turquoise or beige and hundreds of others options shade combinations… Become the owner of a car with an exclusive appearance Anyone who is not afraid to experiment can! And all thanks to the fact that car painting in two colors is available today, which turns even the most nondescript "four-wheeled friend" into an attractive handsome man.

Proper preparation is the key to success

A lot of money was invested, more than one day was spent, and the result did not live up to expectations? The transition between green and white is not as you would like, and the applied paint begins to “please” with barely noticeable cracks? To prevent this from happening, it is important to properly prepare the “experimental” for the procedure.

First of all, all glass, rubber and plastic parts must be sealed if the car is painted in two colors in the assembly. Then the surface is thoroughly cleaned of the old coating, rust, dirt, blown and degreased. Blowing is carried out using ventilation in order to remove all debris, including tiny particles invisible to the eye.

Only after that you can proceed to direct staining. For achievement best effect it should be carried out in special workshops using advanced equipment - compressors, spray guns, grinding tools, infrared or other drying.

Clear Boundary Technique

Black and white, blue and light blue can "meet" on the body in different ways, for example, they can be separated from each other by a clear line. To obtain this effect, the rest of the non-working surface is covered with a special tape or a figured stencil, and the painting itself is performed in a standard way. It is recommended to apply a lighter tone first, then a darker one. To separate the painted parts, a chrome strip laid along the contact line can be used.

The combination of a bright solution (for example, "forest green" or "electric blue") and muted "silver", brown, white or beige will look original. From such a car it exudes formality and at the same time sportiness, rigor and at the same time audacity. Some car owners prefer to combine shades of the same color and get a stylish "modest" that is not like the others. Doubt whether to combine red with pink, and blue with yellow? Do not be afraid to consult with professionals - they will surely dispel all doubts.

Smooth transition

If there is no clear separation of colors, then they gradually approach each other, blending organically. Thus, it is impossible to tell where one shade ends and another begins. To achieve this effect, experts resort to the stencil method with the extension of retouching. This technology is more complex and cannot be applied without the help of professionals. After the main colors are “in place”, two layers of varnish are applied and the final polishing of the surfaces is carried out. Sometimes a third is used. bright color, which helps create fuzzy lines between the other two.

Two-tone cars are far from a novelty of our days. One of the first "swallows" were the GAZ-21 models, which deservedly won the hearts of thousands of drivers. To give a special chic, four various schemes divisions and many combinations. Lemon roof and black bottom, basic blue with the addition of dark blue, cherry-yellow version - the tempting colors of the Volga could not help but attract attention.

As for the choice of tones, it depends mainly on the wishes of the client: some prefer to make the upper part of the car bright, others leave it more neutral and focus on the lower part of the body. And further! It is not recommended to select matching shades by eye: it is better to use

In the 1950s and 60s, two-tone cars were all the rage. In those years, many models, ranging from minivans to SUVs, had two-tone bodies. Then gradually the cars became. And today this trend in the automotive industry is back again.

Today we see that every year there are more and more new cars with a two-tone body color. The fashion for painting the roof in a different color, as usual, began in the USA. Many american cars today they have two body colors. This trend began to be picked up even by such models as and, which also received a two-tone body design.

This trend is gradually beginning to follow and other leading automotive companies. So we have no doubt that in the near future more and more new cars will have two-tone bodies. It is noteworthy that even the Japanese, who usually do not follow the global fashion trends in car design, are going to start painting their cars with combined colors. For example, the new generation will hit the market in 2018 in a two-tone version.

Why did automakers again decide to return to the old? There is, of course, no single answer to this question. Fashion in the auto world lives according to the same laws as fashion for clothes. As you know, the fashion for clothes returns periodically. But in a slightly modified form and naturally in new clothes, already higher-quality modern fabrics are often used.

So the fashion for two-tone cars is back. Thus, car companies want to give their customers more emotions from buying a car. The fact is that people react in an incredible way. For example, if you paint a car in two colors, then the car can look like two characters at the same time. As you understand, with one color it is impossible.

For example, the black roof of a red car gives it a sporty feel. Cream body color combined with a black roof gives the car a sense of reliability and quality.

Or, for example, many body colors with a white roof give some car models a bit of femininity.

In particular, the contrast between the two body colors, of course, changes the overall design of the car and gives it more aggressiveness, character, etc.

A new fashion trend in the automotive industry gives, according to marketers, automotive companies more freedom of choice, so that every car enthusiast can choose what best suits his style and tastes. So in soon There will be more colorful cars on the market.

In conclusion, we would like to note that the fashion for two-tone cars has returned just in time.

After all, you will agree today most of the existing models. So the two-tone body design should freshen up modern cars a bit and make them more stylish. Why not.

Transition painting is a technology implemented with partial painting of body elements restored after damage. Local painting by the smooth transition method is a difficult process to implement, which not every service station will undertake, since it is more rational for the painter, in terms of financial gain, to repaint the entire part.
Transition painting is more complicated than usual

This article presents painting. You will learn technological features this process, problems arising during its implementation, materials and equipment necessary for staining. After studying the instructions, you can paint a car with a transition with your own hands, saving money and getting a quality result as a result.

Transition painting basics

Painting a car part during a partial body repair requires a strict selection of the shade used paintwork material by original color vehicle- Not a single self-respecting motorist will allow himself to drive a car painted in discord.

To select the color of the shade specified by the manufacturer of the machine, or use special computer programs, but none of the methods gives a 100% accurate result. The paintwork of the machine during its operation fades under solar radiation and is damaged due to mechanical influences, as a result of which tonal differences are visually noticeable between the old and new paint on the body.

Auto-transition painting gives a smooth color match between the restored coating area and the factory paint, practically invisible to the eye. The technology is used to paint any body elements, in addition to partial repairs according to this method the car is painted in two colors - with a gradient.

On the surface of the body there are two coatings - varnish and paint. You need to paint with a transition each layer separately, while the borders of the transition of varnish and paint are spread - the enamel is applied with a spade of 5-10 centimeters beyond the restored area, and the varnish overlaps the old coating by 20-30 cm. You can also make the transition with varnish by completely updating the old varnish coating on the surface of the entire part, however, this approach leads to a waste of material.

In order to smooth the contours of the transition zone, a transition thinner is used during staining. This material is produced separately for enamel and varnish - you will need to purchase two separate compositions. We recommend using a solvent and paint from the same brand line, since the compositions different companies often incompatible.

The solvent allows you to remove the shade transition between the surface of the body and the restored area. Smoothing occurs due to active chemicals in which the pigments of the applied paint dissolve, which blurs the boundaries of the painted zone.

Painting a car part is done by applying a thin layer of solvent to the transition contour, after which the base material is sprayed on top of it. The drying time of the solvent is not expected - the enamel is applied immediately, until the solvent has evaporated from the treated surface.

How to paint a car at home

Do-it-yourself painting with a transition is carried out in a well-lit room. Light plays here key role- you will need to visually assess the differences between body sections and make the necessary adjustments. If you are working, in addition to the ceiling lamp, use LED lights aimed at the part of the body being processed. Pre-wet clean the room by blowing the floor and walls of the garage with compressed air.

To paint with a transition, you will need the following materials:

  • Enamel of the color identical to the surface of the body (use the factory paint code, it is indicated on the engine compartment plate, or take a gas tank tank with you to the store, according to which you will select the desired shade);
  • Solvent (for acrylic, alkyd or nitro paints - based on the type of enamel used);
  • Degreaser;
  • Sandpaper (grit P1500);
  • masking tape;
  • Sticky wipes;
  • Scotch brite, paste and polishing wipes.

Painting auto parts with a transition requires the sequential application of two compositions - paint (varnish) and a solvent. For spraying, it is rational to use two separate spray guns, so you will save time by depriving yourself of the need to clean the spray bottle after applying each layer.

The following instructions will help you paint the car with a transition:

  1. We seal the body around the treated area with newspapers and masking tape to prevent paint from getting into adjacent areas;
  2. We matte the part and the transition zone on the factory paint (distance 10-15 cm) with P1500 sandpaper, removing the gloss from the old paintwork until a pronounced rough texture is obtained. Due to roughness, adhesion (adhesion) increases metal surface and applied paint;
  3. We remove the dust formed during grouting with a damp cloth, after drying, remove the remaining dust with a sticky cloth;
  4. Degrease the treated surface with white spirit;
  5. Applying the first layer base enamel- fill the spray gun tank with paint and set the supply pressure to 1.3 bar. Holding the nozzle of the spray gun at a distance of 20-25 cm from the body, we obscure the painting area with diagonal movements;
  6. We are waiting for the enamel to dry "to touch" (15-30 minutes, exact time indicated on the packaging of the material) and from a distance of 35-40 cm, spray a thin layer of solvent along the outer contour of the painted area;
  7. We immediately apply a second layer of enamel (the pressure of the spray gun is increased to 1.7 bar), overlapping the painted area and expanding it to adjacent areas. The third layer of enamel is applied at a pressure of 2 bar - first we spray the solvent along the side contours of the part, then we apply the paint, shading it outside the area to be painted.

To make a transition when painting a car, apply each subsequent layer of base enamel at a higher spray pressure, systematically increasing the distance between the spray gun nozzle and the body - this will smooth out the shade on adjacent surfaces.

The opening of the painted part with varnish is performed after the enamel has dried. If the painting of parts takes up more than 2/3 of their area, the varnish coating on the body element is completely renewed. During the transition, the factory varnishing in adjacent areas is cleaned with a matting paste and Scotch-brite.

  1. We mix the varnish with the activator in the proportions specified by the manufacturer;
  2. From a distance of 35-40 cm, we open the painted area with the first layer with a minimum spacing beyond its borders;
  3. After the varnish has dried to the touch, spray the second layer, blending the stain beyond the contours of the repaired area;
  4. Used to apply the third layer liquid composition(varnish 1:1). A stain of varnish is carried out beyond the base layer of paint at a distance of 15-20 centimeters.

Polishing the painted area allows you to remove the transition after painting the car. The surface is polished after the time required for complete drying of the varnish (according to the manufacturer's recommendations).

Initially, the junction of freshly applied and factory varnish is treated with scotch-brite and matting paste with a spade of 3-5 cm in each direction. Next, a polishing paste is applied to the matted area, which is rubbed into the body with a special napkin (or machine) until a persistent shine appears on the surface.

Problems when painting with a transition

It is quite difficult to make the transition when painting a car without experience. Problems occur in the following cases:

  • Incorrect selection of paint - two-tone coloring, when the composition used for partial painting, and the original shade of the body do not match, it is impossible to hide even with full observance of the transition technology. To avoid problems, do not trust the selection of paint by eye - choose the composition by code or using a computer program;
  • The appearance of "bald spots" when matting varnish. To clean the varnish coating, do not use fine-grained sandpaper (P1600, P200, etc.) - it forms shagreen on the surface (irregularities similar to an orange peel), which are not hidden by polishing paste. Apply scotch brite and a special matting composition;
  • Do not start polishing uncured varnish, this is fraught with damage to the coating and the need for its complete renewal. The recommended pause between varnishing and polishing is 2-3 days.
  • To avoid dullness of the painted area and the appearance of smudges during the application of the base enamel, spray the solvent only on the borders of the treated surface, and not on its entire area;

Transition Color Features

Painting cars with metallic compositions requires the use of a binder - a special paint for the transition. Binder is a colorless emulsion, visually similar to varnish, which is the basic component of enamel paints. With local body painting, it acts as a liquid substrate, in which the pigment of the applied composition is buried.

At the border of the old and new paint, the layer of the applied coating is thin, its thickness is not enough to evenly distribute the aluminum particles that give the metallic a reflective effect. Randomly placed particles at the transition points form a dark halo (particularly suffers from this problem). The binder forms a wet layer at the transition boundary, in which aluminum metallic pigments are buried, which allows the particles to evenly settle down on the painted surface.

WATCH THE VIDEO INSTRUCTIONS

The binder is applied to the treated area of the body with a spade around the place of partial staining so that all subsequent enamel is located in the zone of the colorless base layer. The binder is sprayed with an airbrush, it is not allowed to dry out - the enamel is applied immediately after the base layer. Painting in two colors, with a smooth gradient of body colors, is always done using a binder.

Exotic paint on a car is not yet a guarantee of special interest in it from other motorists, but painting, on their own, your car in 2 different, harmonious colors will largely solve the problem of the lack of original features, even without the use of expensive materials. Such a high-quality two-tone painting of your car can get rid of the difficult choice of enamel or become a stylization for racing car. One thing is certain, if a craftsman has some creativity and the right technology to achieve beautiful transitions or hard lines, his creation will be unique and different from other machines.

Technology features and some other nuances

The main difficulty of painting a car in two different colors is getting a quality transition and modifying the surface when applying a second enamel, which should have good hiding power and not flow under the adhesive tape. Therefore, to seal that part of the surface that should not be covered with a second paint, it is recommended to use high-quality adhesive tape, preferably Chinese made with a weak adhesive base.

If a small part is painted in two different colors, only powder paint can be used, the positive point of which is the uniformity of the surface coverage. But painting the body of any car in two different colors with powder paint alone is practically impossible due to the appearance of visible overflows during sintering of the powder, and ordinary car enamel is used as the second paint. Often, combined in harmonious colors, the painting of any car does not necessarily imply a strict border between colors, sometimes a soft transition between paints of similar color looks very impressive. It is very difficult to achieve a high-quality transition and requires some skill, it is easier to use such a two-color one, using paint different colors, painting your personal car, at which the border between colors passes through the joints of different parts of the machine.

Such painting options can be used to obtain the effect of volume, slightly darkening the surface to be painted at the corners and edges. individual part, but the paint, in this case, must be applied in several layers. In order to emphasize the transition line, instead of changing the color of the paint to darken, add a little pearlescent pigment, which will allow you to get an unusual effect. The most common color combinations in the painting process modern car in two different, harmonious colors - dark red, green, blue, orange. It should be noted that the combination of coloring with a combination of black and white is very rare, and purple and brown are used in painting with a soft transition. Two-tone painting can be very effective using enamel of the same color with different shades.

Necessary tools and materials for painting work

For high-quality painting of the car, we need the following tools and materials:

  • Spray gun and compressor;
  • Sandpaper ̶ grit P80, P180, P240, P320, P360, P400, P600, P800;
  • Solvent;
  • masking tape;
  • Primer, paint and varnish;
  • Priming gun;
  • A piece of flannel fabric;
  • Container for mixing soil and paintwork materials.

    Preparing the room for painting

    After preparing all necessary tools and materials for painting, you should start preparing the room where the painting work will be carried out. This is very milestone in the process of painting and the quality directly depends on it end result. The main complication in painting works V garage conditions is the presence of dust.

    Although under normal conditions the dust is not very noticeable, but while painting with a jet from a spray gun, your movements can cause an incredible amount of dust, most of which will settle on the painted surface. To prevent this, it is necessary to thoroughly clean the entire room from dust with a vacuum cleaner, wash the floor and remove all unnecessary items that may be a source of dust. Only then can paint work begin.

    Removing old paintwork

    The paint and varnish coating, before painting the machine in two colors, must be removed and it is recommended to do this using sandpaper P80, P180 on those areas of the surface that were previously covered with putty. Next, you should grind the place of transition of the putty to the metal with finer sandpaper, removing deep scratches from the previous grinding. After the most significant damage, you can start sanding using sandpaper with grit P180 ̶ P320, removing scratches from previous processing. If, initially, there is no significant defects, you can start sanding with medium grit sandpaper and then move on to finer.

    When processing small areas or concave surfaces, force should not be applied only to the fingertips, the entire surface of the fingers should act. This achieves a uniform distribution of the load of the abrasive material over the surface of the part. The movements of the hand must be uniform and directed in a straight line: it is impossible to make circular movements. The pressing force on the surface of the part must remain constant throughout the process, and the fingers must be directed at an angle of 90 ° to the line of motion.

    All this, for the majority, may be an unusual way of working, but it is precisely this that ensures the quality of processing and excludes the appearance on the surface deep scratches that can be seen through the enamel. It must be remembered that the ultimate goal of processing is to level the surface, and this is done by applying numerous shallow scratches sandpaper.

    The puttying process can be skipped, as it is understood that the machine is painted simply to change the color and severe damage that require puttying is not on the surface. Then you need to clean the surface of dust, using for this compressed air. Next, you should degrease the surface using white spirit, you can not use ordinary solvent or gasoline for this.

    Priming and grinding the primed surface

    Before priming, it is necessary to properly prepare the soil itself. If it is one-component, it is enough to add 20% thinner to it, and in a two-component, in addition, a hardener is also added in strict accordance with the instructions. The hardener and thinner must be from the same manufacturer as the primer, otherwise the quality of the primed surface will be poor.

    The primer is applied to the dust-free and degreased surface of the machine in several layers using a primer gun at a pressure of 2 ̶ 4 bar, and the nozzle diameter should be from 1.6 to 2 mm. Each subsequent layer of soil is applied only when the previous one has already become dull.

    Soil drying

    After that, the primed surface must be dried at a temperature of 20 ° C for about a quarter of an hour, if drying takes place in a special chamber at a temperature of 60 ° C, it is necessary to leave the surface for 10 ̶ 15 minutes before that at a temperature of 20 ° C. For drying, special infrared lamps can be used, but it is necessary to maintain a distance of at least 70 cm from the primed surface to the lamp.

    After the primer has dried, carefully inspect the surface and, if scratches, chips, and irregularities are found, use putty to eliminate them. Next, you need to start grinding the primed surface with a grinder using sandpaper P240, P360, P400 if sanding is dry. If sanding with water, it is necessary to use waterproof sandpaper with a grit
    P600, P800, after which, the surface must be washed with water and dried thoroughly.

    For achievement best result when grinding, it is enough to observe next rule: use new sandpaper for the initial processing of the entire available area, and erased ̶ for final sanding. If during grinding the ground completely disappears in places, such areas must be re-primed and sanded. After that, immediately before painting, the surface should be cleaned of dust and degreased.
