Parking in front. Where can't you park your car? Carrying out perpendicular parking

25.04.2019

Even such a simple question, how to properly park between cars, causes some panic among a large number drivers. For correct parking you need to calculate well whether the car will fit in a pocket between other cars, calculate the distance to the car in front and the car behind, so as not to “support” anyone. For beginners, it is generally difficult to learn this technique, because in the conditions of the city there will not be much time for such a maneuver.

How to properly park between cars will help you understand experience and only experience. You need to learn the art of parking yourself, because there is too little time for this in a driving school. You need to study the parking technique well, which will be described below, and practice.

Scheme parallel parking between cars in front

This type of parking is one of the easiest, because you do not need to make complex maneuvers. in reverse. In this way, they park, for example, along the road or in courtyards.

  • Seeing an empty place, we drive up to it so that the distance between your car and the car that is behind free space, was about 1.5 meters;
  • When you catch up with the car behind you, start turning the steering wheel to the right and enter the parking space. Upon arrival, the distance between the front bumper of the parked car and your car should be about 0.5 meters;
  • When 0.5-0.3 meters remain to the edge of the road / curb, you need to turn the steering wheel to the left and align your car parallel to the curb. When leveling, you need to focus on the car in front. It is not worth unscrewing the steering wheel strongly, because then the front part can move away from the curb;
  • Now you need to move forward to completely align your car. If the space allows, then just a little forward movement and subsequent alignment of the wheels will be enough. If not, then to align our car we drive close in front standing car, and when the car is level, align the steering wheel and back a little, so as to be in the middle between the cars.

The ideal size of a parking space is 3 or more car bodies. But, in the conditions of the city, the place is often less. Therefore, only experience will help to calculate whether it is possible to park in a free space.

Perpendicular front parking

There is another option for parking in front - parking perpendicular to the curb. This option is more common in cities, because you need significantly less parking space than in the parallel parking option. Parking spaces are not marked strictly perpendicular to the curb/kerb, but with a slight angle towards the direction of traffic, this greatly facilitates parking.

This kind of parking is not difficult. It is important to remember only one detail - rear axle the turning trajectory is much larger than that of the front. Therefore, approaching a free place, the steering wheel should only be turned to the right when your driver's seat has already passed the front bumper of the parked car.

It is best to park for the first time in places where there are parking attendants, they will help you get straight. Enough about two parking lots with valet attendants to master the technique.

Reverse parking scheme between cars

Reverse parking is the hardest part. Therefore, in order to learn how to park well in reverse, you need not only to learn the theory, but to feel your car well and be able to navigate well in mirrors when reversing.

Consider the scheme for parking parallel to the curb / curb:

  • First you need to pass a potential parking space and stand next to the front car. The distance between you and the car in front should be about 1 meter or slightly less;
  • Now we begin to slowly move back. The wheels stay straight. When the rear bumper of the car in front is visible in the right side mirror, you should stop;
  • After stopping, turn the steering wheel to the right until it stops and continue to slowly reverse. Looking now in the left mirror you need to follow rear car. When the entire front part of it is visible in the left mirror, you should stop;
  • Align the wheels and drive slowly in reverse. Looking into your right mirror you need to control the interval with the front car;
  • The left mirror will be visible in the right mirror back angle front car. When it disappears from view, you need to stop and unscrew the steering wheel to the left until it stops, then slowly continue driving. Looking in the side mirrors, we control the distance to rear car, and looking forward, through your Windshield– distance to the front car;
  • When your car has become parallel to the curb and on the same axis as the parked ones, you need to drive forward a little. The interval between your and neighboring machines should be the same. This completes the parking lot.

Perpendicular reverse parking

Before parking, you need to estimate the width of the parking space. The space must be wider than your car, taking into account the open doors.
For proper parking, you need to drive through a free space and stop at a neighboring car, so that its starboard side is visible (provided that it also parked in reverse). Then you need to reverse, and when your rear axle matches the right rear wheel of a parked car, you need to turn the steering wheel all the way to the left and continue driving. When driving, you need to control the parked car in the right mirror, the distance to it should be more than 0.5 meters.

When the car disappears from view in the right mirror, you need to follow the neighboring car in the left mirror. When the distance between the cars has become approximately the same, you should align your wheels and finish parking.

If the distance is different, you can drive forward a little, turning the wheels towards a greater distance. Then align the wheels and return to the starting position in reverse.

After a few trials, preferably with a friend or a valet, the question of how to properly park between cars will disappear on its own, and you will become confident in urban car life.

Parking the car depending on the traffic situation, as well as the presence of other participants traffic- this, in other words, is car parking.

Very often, depending on the parking method, it is used in maneuvers. Moreover, in many cases it is even recommended to drive into a parking space in reverse, if this is not prohibited by the Rules. Why?

Firstly, when reversing in a narrow space, the car is more maneuverable than when driving "forward". This may seem strange, but it is true.

Secondly, it is more convenient to leave the parking lot in front, because it is better controlled traffic situation. Of course, the way the car is parked.

Vehicle dynamic dimensions

The car turns about a point lying on the extension of the rear axle. The turning radius of the car is controlled by turning the front wheels. Accordingly, the more the wheels are turned, the smaller the turning radius. But do not forget about the protruding parts of the car - these are the front and rear fenders.

Therefore, when the car turns, it seems to become wider. This phenomenon is usually called a change in the overall width, and the change in size itself is vehicle dynamic dimensions. When cornering and especially when parking, this feature must be taken into account. In general, this feature can be attributed to, but the main thing here is to understand how the car turns.

There is one rule that many drivers constantly forget or ignore. It sounds like this: you should always treat other road users with respect. When applied to car parking, this rule looks something like this:

  • Obey the requirements of road signs;
  • Park the car as quickly as possible to clear the way for other cars to pass;
  • Take up as little space as possible in the parking lot to leave free space for parking other cars;
  • Provide free exit from the parking lot, as well as free passage of pedestrians;
  • If possible, park in reverse to leave the parking space in front;
  • Avoid parking on slopes and ascents, as well as on narrow streets;
  • In the parking lot, open the doors carefully so as not to damage the doors themselves and the bodies of nearby cars.

Below we will consider ways to park a car.

Parallel parking in reverse.

The full name of this maneuver is: parking a car in reverse between two cars parked parallel to the sidewalk. Before proceeding with such a maneuver, the actual distance between the vehicles should be estimated. If it is less than 1.5 the length of your car, then it is better not to try to squeeze between them, but to look for another place. If this distance is more than 1.5 times the length of your car, then you can start parking.

The traffic plan will be as follows.

    1. We move straight along the road and stop next to the car in front of which we want to park. You need to stop so that the rear wheels of your car pass the line rear bumper car parked on the sidewalk. You can immediately stop the rear wheels on this line, but then it will be difficult to turn the steering wheel when the car is stationary. You can navigate by the rear pillar or back rear seat. The distance between cars should be about 1 meter.
    2. We start moving back to minimum speed. It is most convenient to sit half sideways back. As soon as your rear wheels line up with the line of the “neighbor” rear bumper (you can navigate by the back of the rear seat of your car), quickly and continue to slow. At the same time, you will still have to keep an eye on the road, since the left wing will now protrude strongly on carriageway.
    3. When the car is about 40-45 degrees to the pavement (the longer your car, the smaller the angle), it's best to stop and align the wheels to the "straight" position. This angle can be determined by two guidelines: A). the right B-pillar of your vehicle will be approximately opposite the left rear corner of the vehicle in front; b). to the left Side mirror you can see the entire bumper of the car behind. After that, we continue to move back on straight wheels.
    4. When your front right corner crosses the line of the rear bumper of the car in front (this is a dotted line in the diagram), stop and turn the wheels all the way to the left.
    5. Keep the wheels turned and continue to reverse until the car is parallel to the pavement. We follow the car that is behind, so as not to accidentally hit it. Aligning the wheels
    6. Parking completed. It will be possible to move forward or back a little so that the car that is left behind has a place to exit. But it is undesirable to get close to the car in front, you need to leave yourself a place to leave.

How to get out of such a parking lot, or how to start moving from the sidewalk in a similar situation, can be found in the article.

Parking at an angle to the road.

Performed in a straight line. Very often, the parking lot is delimited by appropriate markings. To perform this maneuver, you need to keep an interval of about 1.5 m with cars standing at the sidewalk.

  1. . When windshield your car comes up with the left rear corner of the car behind which we want to park, quickly turn the steering wheel to the right.
  2. We slowly drive into the parking lot. Align the wheels so that you are in the middle of the cars or markings.
  3. We continue to align the wheels in motion and move forward until right wheel won't hit the curb. If the curb is very high, then we stop before reaching it.

Perpendicular reverse parking.

There are two ways to perform this maneuver.

First way most often used in parking areas with enough free space, and is performed as follows:

  1. We move along the road, to the left of the parked cars, which are perpendicular to, say, the sidewalk or in the same row of the parking lot. We slow down the movement. We see a car behind which there is an empty seat.
  2. When the front wheels of your car are level with the right edge of the standing car behind which we want to park, turn the steering wheel all the way to the left and move forward in an arc until the car takes a perpendicular position relative to the parking row. Align the wheels and stop.
  3. In reverse at minimum speed, we turn back. We control the movement on the mirrors, or sitting on the floor sideways and looking in rear glass car. You need to enter the parking place so that you are located in the middle between two other cars or within the markings.
  4. Parking completed.

Alternatively, to park the car in reverse, you can turn not quite perpendicular, because often there is not enough space, but drive along the path indicated by the green dotted line.

Another way this parking lot is better known as entrance to the garage. Or parking in reverse between cars. This maneuver is performed as follows.

  1. To begin with, we drive straight along the traffic behind the cars, between which we will park at an interval of 1.5-2 meters to them. You need to stop so that the rear bumper of your car catches up with the far, in the direction of travel, edge of a standing car.
  2. We start a slow movement in reverse and turn the front wheels to the right until they stop. The car "went" in a small circle. We look in the right mirror.
  3. When between the right side of your car and the left front corner of the standing one decreases to about 10-20cm, align the wheels, turn half sideways back and continue to slowly move until your right rear pillar(rear seatback) is not level with the left front corner of the parked vehicle.
  4. At this moment, we again turn the wheels to the right until they stop, drive into the parking space and align the wheels so as to be located in the middle between the standing cars.

When the parking space is limited, it will most likely be impossible to check in on the first run. Then you have to go a little ahead and repeat the race. And it may be that you will have to park in several steps. In this case, it must be borne in mind that the parking lot doors will open, both for your car and for neighbors. Therefore, the parking interval between cars is desirable to leave sufficient.

Exercises "Reversing the garage" and "Parallel parking" will have to be handed over. But on the examination site, as a rule, there is more free space than in a real parking lot.

Boxing during the exam can be performed both in the first and in the second option. The first option is a little easier, especially since there is enough space on the examination site for maneuver. If you have to take the exam according to the second option, then it is better to do it first (turn the wheels all the way and go through the arc at a small radius) and then drive into the “garage” already on straight wheels.

    Hello. Thank you very much for the article on the topic of "parking". However, I did not find the answer I needed. Please explain - what are the rules for leaving the parking lot (parking space), are there priorities when leaving the parking lot (parking space) and the car that enters the parking lot?

    The fact is that quite recently I got into an accident in the parking lot, i.e. I drove into the parking area and moved along the “main” road (because there are no priority signs in the parking lot) and a car suddenly leaves the right side of the exit from the parking spaces, not giving way to me. As a result, an accident occurs. They called the traffic police, etc. the driver both at the scene of the accident and later at the traffic police department admitted his guilt, the case was closed.

    The next day, I applied to the insurance company, submitted all the documents, where everything was successfully accepted from me, etc. etc. and lo and behold, after 2 weeks I was paid insurance. And literally the next day after the payments, the traffic police inspector who processed our accident calls me back and informs me that his management TERMINATED HIS DECISION, because it is not correct and that I am guilty of the accident, in violation of the “interference on the right”, i.e. e. now I am charged with 100% guilt in an accident as "hindrance on the right". . .

    So who is right? Is it possible that “interference on the right” is operating in the parking area (by definition of the adjacent territory). Is there also an intersection of carriageways (roads) in the parking lot?

    Please explain or tell me where to turn for clarification. now I’m summoned to this very “boss” according to the agenda - the investigators apparently convince me that I’m in the parking area, moving along the carriageway (road) and passing the CROSSROADS OF THE CARRIAGE (ROADS), apparently unregulated and equivalent roads, - I DID NOT GIVE ROAD TO THE CAR ACCORDINGLY RULE "INTERFERENCE TO THE RIGHT".

    Moreover, the car on the right did not approach the exit from the parking lot (parking spaces), but was motionless, and as I approached, it suddenly began to move in front of me ...

    Thank you in advance.

    Sincerely, Sergey, Kaliningrad.

    Hello! I found this site and completely copied all the information in order to read in the evening and delve into it. Today I could not stand it and decided to go back to the page to say a big thank you to the author: everything is explained very intelligibly! Pictures, seemingly simple, but answer the questions of many beginners. I erased all the previous information from the computer and left only this one! The only thing that was enough for me in the article “dimensions”: how, after all, to learn how to drive a car smoothly, choose some kind of landmark or something else?

  8. Sergey D.

    Hello, Elena.

    Please study.

    The car follows the eye, i.e. where you look, there the car goes. To get rid of "wobble", you need to learn to look further at the road, i.e. the eye moves ahead of the car (further - closer - further - closer again, etc.) approximately in the middle of your lane. You should not "tie" your gaze to the marking line.

    The steering wheel must be held freely, without tension in the hands. When the car, nevertheless, deviates from a straight line, for example, shifts to the right, you need to swing the steering wheel slightly to the left with a slight movement, but do not hold it at that point. Those. slightly turn the steering wheel to the left and immediately return it to its place. Also on the other side. Practice and you'll get it.

    And who is right in a situation where the exit from the parking lot is very difficult (large slope and only one lane)? I stand on the slope, turn left, skip traffic on the main, with main road a car starts to drive in (ignoring that I am already standing there), but there is nowhere to go, because I am already standing there and trying to leave. After all, it’s right to let the car drive out and only then drive into the parking lot, why don’t I roll back?

  10. Sergey D.

    Hello Jane.

    Usually, in places of difficult oncoming traffic, priority signs or are installed.

    If there are no signs, then drivers use an unspoken rule: the one who is moving downhill gives way, because it is much more difficult to go uphill. Especially if the exit from the parking space is on the rise. Moving uphill passes first.

  11. Laura

    Sergey, tell me how to feel the dimensions of the car. I've been driving for six months now, but I can't get used to it. Those. in situations where there is not enough space, I can’t figure out whether I will pass or not ...

  12. Sergey D.

    Hello Laura.

    The ability to feel the dimensions of the car is well helped by exercises from. For example, exercise "" and "e". Just don't use them on the street. Try to negotiate with a driving school, and work out in your car on their territory. Everything you need to complete these exercises is there. To study with or without an instructor is up to you, but if it doesn’t work out, I think it would be better if the teacher points out the mistakes, and at the same time sort them out. Good luck with your training!

  13. Natalia

    Hello Sergey!

    Before starting to drive on my own, I changed 4 instructors. We were lucky with the 4th, everything started to work out, only the parking worked out in combat conditions every other time, although everything went fine on the circuit.

    When I got to your site, everything finally fit into my head, thanks for putting everything in order, any novice driver will find answers to his questions here both on parking and driving and on different situations on the road, I recommend this site to everyone, thank you again!!!

  15. Catherine

    Hello!

    My problem is parallel parking in reverse in urban areas. For a year, I never dared to do it. I studied at the Driving School on Renault Logan, but in real life I have a 7-seater squat minivan, with tinted windows on the side and rear. Complicates the situation even more high angle turning --- for example, when turning from the leftmost lane onto the road, I never get --- I go to the side of the road or into the rightmost lane on a three-lane highway. The option is to turn back and look through two rows of seats to see if my rear wheel with the bumper of a standing car - it is simply impossible, especially in the evening. In addition, I reviewed a bunch of videos and diagrams, and did not find an option anywhere when the review is difficult constructively.

    How to navigate only by mirrors? What should I "catch" in the right mirror? If possible, describe in more detail the very first stage. Thanks in advance, best regards, Ekaterina.

  16. Sergey D.

    Hello Ekaterina.

    It is difficult to describe or suggest anything remotely, since the entire so-called “mirror parking theory” describes general rules that are mainly focused on almost ideal conditions. In reality, it turns out that there may be a little less space, or vice versa, a little more than necessary (this is better), neighboring cars can stand at different angles with respect to the curb, one wide, the other narrow and other inconveniences.

    You don't need to catch anything in the right mirror. We stopped parallel to the road (to your right is a car that, after parking is completed, will be in front). When you start moving backwards, it is important to go around the car standing on the right with your right rear wheel - for this you need your rear wheels to move over the line of its rear bumper.

    After that, turn the steering wheel all the way to the right, in the left mirror you need to see the full front bumper behind the standing car (its right headlight) is a signal to straighten the wheels (the angle to the curb is approximately 40-45 degrees). Continue moving backwards, only now look at the “front” car until your front bumper crosses the line of its rear bumper. After that, turn the steering wheel to the left, back up and press against the curb. Align the wheels.

    You initially need to empirically find out and remember the maneuverability of your car at different steering angles - its dynamic dimensions. You need to remember (feel) where the right front and right rear wheels are located. So that from the driver's seat you feel the moment of turning. The exercise "" in front and back helps to develop this feeling.

    Ask to the race track where the classes were held, only now in your car, and practice there. But one way or another, you have to turn your head around.

  17. Ilya

    Good afternoon. I wanted to get an answer and figure out what traffic rules act in this situation.

    Parking near the store, the direction of movement in one lane from which there are parking spaces on the left and right. Two cars are reversing (a red Peugeot exits the parking lot on the right and a white Ssang-Yong exits the parking lot on the left) and crashes.

    The layout at the time of inspection by the inspector: a white car at the right corner of the rear bumper (point of contact), the front door is closer to the B-pillar and the beginning tailgate) red car. The angle between the machines is approximately 45 degrees.

    The situation is controversial. the white car is equipped with a rear-view camera and the driver claims that the red car was not present at the time of reversing. The driver of the red car claims that he was standing still, and the maneuver white car did not see. But both drivers confirm that they missed the car before the collision. gray color. The inspector said that the violation on the part white car(right hand rule).

    Please explain: what does the right hand rule have to do with it, and who is to blame here? I believe both drivers are at fault. They were not convinced of the safety of their actions (inattention).

    One driver agrees to mutual, the second says INNOCENT! In the end, everyone goes to the analysis group. Husbands are at a loss, wives are in a trance. Really need good advice. Thank you in advance.

  18. Sergey D.

    Hello Ilya.

    When in some situation one participant moves backwards, then in the case car accident guilty recognize it, since the traffic rules oblige the driver to this case make sure of all possible and impossible nuances ().

    In this situation, both were moving in reverse, therefore, the fault lies with both drivers. Who is more and who is less guilty is another question. Both overlooked.

    The inspector, determining the guilty, acts within the framework of the traffic rules, and accusing, he needs to refer to some paragraph of the Rules. From here he made the only conclusion that the obstacle on the right had to be passed forward. Formally, he is right. The right hand rule () applies in the parking area. And what course the car was moving, front or rear, is not mentioned in this paragraph.

    Going on the principle is pushing the conditions of payments under OSAGO. When you are not guilty of an accident, then there is a chance to get insurance, and if you are guilty, you will have to repair it at your own expense. These are the conditions.

    If one claims that at the time of the collision in the parking lot he was standing still and not moving (despite the fact that the study shows that he did move), then let him prove this fact. He cannot prove it, which means that there is also a component of his guilt.

Every driver should know how to park well. Some people acquire this important skill while still studying at a driving school, but not all after receiving driving license can say that they can properly park in reverse. One of the most intimidating maneuvers for beginners is parallel parking. About it, as well as other ways of parking, will be discussed in today's article.

The ability to confidently park a car in reverse is sure to come in handy. It's hard to even imagine how to drive a car in general. big city, and not only in large, not being able to perform this procedure. Of course, few people can immediately become a parking master, practice is very important in this matter. But first you need to clearly understand how to act in a given situation.

We will look at several ways to reverse park between two cars.

Method 1: Right Perpendicular Parking

In the parking lot, follow the same rules as on the road, keeping to the right side of the lane between the rows of parked cars.

Once you have selected a parking spot to the right of your car, turn on your right turn signal to let other drivers know you plan to park in that spot.

Drive slowly past a free parking space, making sure there is enough space for your car. Check the parking lot for obstructions and make sure there are actually parked cars on both sides.

When you pass by, reduce your speed to a minimum. Keep a distance of about 1 meter from parked cars.

When your rear bumper is flush with the left side of a car parked to the right of your chosen spot ( brown car in the figure), come to a complete stop.

Step 2. Prepare to move. Turn on reverse gear. Make sure that the turn signal is on during the manoeuvre.

Look in your mirrors and make sure there are no other vehicles behind you or next to you.

Follow right side of your vehicle using the right mirror. Keep the corner of the rear bumper in sight and keep a distance between it and the parked vehicle.

Step 3. Start parking in reverse. Turn the steering wheel as far to the right as possible, then turn it half a turn to the left.

Advice. When reversing, place your right hand on the back of the front passenger seat and look over your right shoulder. The steering wheel can only be rotated with the left hand.

Drive slowly in reverse gear. You will find yourself in a parking lot. Periodically look in the left mirror so as not to collide with the car on your left.

Step 4. Make adjustments if necessary. Make small adjustments with the steering wheel to center the car in the parking space.

Advice. It is important to understand dimensions your car. It is difficult to determine the length of the car, being on driving seat. If necessary, while parking, get out of the car and check its position to make sure that you do not hit other vehicles.

If you get too close to the car on the other side of your car, stop. Shift into first gear and lean forward slightly to correct the position of the car in the parking space.

Step 5. Reverse to the end. Continue driving until the distance between the rear bumper and the edge of the parking space is 15-30 cm. Be aware of vehicles and obstacles such as curbs, lampposts and supermarket carts. Leave 15-30 cm between the bumper and various obstacles.

Estimate the distance between your car and other vehicles. Make sure you leave enough room for the doors to open.

If there is not enough room to get out of your vehicle or nearby vehicles, shift into first gear and drive forward slowly, correcting your vehicle's position. Try to center your car and come back.

Method 2: Perpendicular parking on the left

If you liked the parking space located on the left in the direction of travel, you can do the following:

  • find a place to turn around, after which the “cell” for parking will be already on the right side (and then you already know what to do);
  • wait for oncoming cars to pass, and park in the place you like in reverse.

Advice. If you decide to park on the left, you need to do it calmly, but quickly. A long parking process blocks traffic and annoys other drivers.

Step 1. Choose a parking space. Analyze oncoming traffic in the parking lot. Turn on your left turn signal to let other road users know that you are planning to park.

When there are no oncoming vehicles, drive onto left side lane and keep about 1 meter away from cars parked on the left.

Step 2. Choose a suitable position. Stop your car the moment your rear bumper aligns with the corner of the parked car's bumper.

Step 3: Engage reverse gear and start parking between cars. Turn steering wheel all the way to the left, and then back to the right about half a turn.

Step 4. Continue to park slowly. Look in your left rearview mirror to keep a safe distance between the rear bumper and the vehicle next to you.

Constantly check the situation through the right mirror and the interior mirror to make sure that you do not hit other vehicles or obstacles.

Step 5. Complete the movement in reverse gear. When your vehicle is parallel with other vehicles, align the wheels by turning the steering wheel to its original position.

Continue to drive slowly in reverse until there is 15-30 cm between the rear bumper and obstacles or markings.

Step 6 Apply the parking brake. Estimate the distance to vehicles on your sides and behind you. If you drive too close to one of the cars and this will make it difficult to get in / out, you need to correct the position of the car.

Method 3: Reverse Parallel Parking

Parallel parking can be intimidating even for experienced drivers, especially in high traffic areas. Remain calm during the procedure. If you practice in advance in areas with minimal movement, this will prepare you and help you avoid unnecessary stress in the future when you find yourself in heavy traffic.

Advice. If you plan to park on the left side of the street, for example if it's a one-way street, follow the tips below, but change from left to right and vice versa.

Step 1. Approach the parking space. As soon as you notice appropriate place to parallel park on the right in the direction of travel, slowly approach it by turning on the right turn signal.

Step 2 Set the car to its original position. Drive past an open space and stop when the rear bumpers of your car and the car next to you are approximately at the same level. The distance between your cars should be approximately 30-50 cm.

Step 3. Prepare to park. Engage reverse gear, turn the steering wheel all the way to the right and hold it in that position.

Step 4. Begin to slowly back out. Your vehicle must enter the parking space at an angle first. Be careful when using the steering wheel with both hands.

Step 5 Align the wheels. When the driver's side mirror lines up with the car's rear bumper on the right side, stop for a second and align the wheels (they should be straight ahead).

Continue to drive back slowly until the right corner front bumper will not align with the rear bumper of the car parked in front.

Step 6 Turn the steering wheel to the left. Stop for a second and turn the steering wheel all the way to the left.

Continue driving in reverse gear. The front of your car will turn, taking correct position in the chosen location.

Step 7 Back up until your vehicle is parallel to the curb. Try to keep the distance between your car and the curb about 15-45 cm.

Step 8. Adjust the position of the car if necessary. Align the steering wheel. Move back until you are 15-30 cm from the bumper of the car behind you. Turn the steering wheel in the direction that is necessary to align the position of the car.

Drive forward until your car is roughly centered between the cars in front and behind.

You can easily exit a parking space by backing up a little, then turning the front wheels to the left and slowly driving forward. Once your front bumper and the rear bumper of the vehicle in front of you have successfully missed each other, you can carefully blend into the traffic.

Parking in reverse can be both simple and quite complex. But constant practice, clear step-by-step instruction(scheme), which you need to keep in mind, and the ability to relax will help even novice drivers to cope with this task.

Training in driving schools is now on stream, and in a short period of time it is very difficult to master all the subtleties of driving a car, including learning how to properly park in reverse between cars.

Skill comes only with experience and it is impossible, having learned the theoretical basics of driving, to consider yourself an experienced motorist. An experienced driver is obliged not only, but also to move, maneuver, turn around and park without accidents.

Parking in front is as easy as shelling pears, it is enough to keep in sight the decreasing distance to the object in front and stop in front of the obstacle, which cannot be said about reverse parking. Sooner or later, any driver will face this.

Therefore, such a parking skill will always be needed when it becomes necessary to put the vehicle in a limited area between other cars.

Reverse parking between two cars

First of all, you need to make sure that they can also see the zone located behind and on the sides of vehicle. Inner part mirrors should reflect the side of the vehicle, and in the rest of the area - the roadway behind the car.

Some drivers lower the right mirror with the regulator so that part of the rear wheel is visible in it. This is done in cases where a high curb is installed on the edge of the carriageway, in the parking lot, and there is a fear of damaging the vehicle or wheel.

There are several basic ways to park in reverse:

  • parallel;
  • perpendicular.

Parallel

IN major cities drivers often park their cars one after the other along the road near the curb. This method of parking is found in places where there are no specially equipped parking areas and you have to apply the skills of parallel parking.

It is important to understand that in a limited area, parallel parking must be carried out exclusively in reverse, otherwise it will not work to park the car exactly in a free “pocket”, and this is fraught with an accident.

Parallel reverse parking between two cars

Step-by-step instruction

The proposed instruction describes the process of parking in reverse on the right side of the roadway.

  1. First of all, you need to visually determine for yourself the future parking place for the car. To do this, you need to slowly move along the parked cars in search of free space. The future parking place should be of such size that the distance between the bumpers of the car eventually parked is 50-60 cm. Such a margin of distance will allow the driver to maneuver and not interfere with standing cars when leaving the parking area.
  2. Beginning drivers are advised to stop parallel to the car in front, maintaining a lateral distance between cars of 50-60 cm. It is important to stretch about 10 cm to the left before stopping so that the nose of the parked car is slightly to the left of its rear part. At this stage, the car is in a position ready to start moving backwards.
  3. Before reversing, it is important to check in the rearview mirror that there are no moving vehicles behind, and such a maneuver will not endanger other road users.
  4. In this position, the left rear corner of the parked car should be clearly visible in the right side mirror. At this stage, this is the main reference point by which reverse movement is corrected.
  5. Now you need to turn the steering wheel to the right and slowly start moving while watching through the right mirror about the lateral distance between the parked car. This stage is very important, and the final result of parking depends on the correctness of its implementation.
  6. Drive with the steering wheel turned to the right until rear end The vehicle will not go beyond the left rear corner of the car parked in front, and the right headlight behind the car will not be visible in the left mirror. Thus, the parked car will take a diagonal position relative to the roadway and standing cars. After that, it is recommended to stop to assess the situation.
  7. At the next stage, you need to put the steering wheel in its original position, in which the wheels will be located evenly and, guided by the mirrors, slowly begin to move backward until the part of the parked car taken as a guide is visually visible in front of the right front corner of the parked car.
  8. Further, it is necessary to unscrew the steering wheel all the way to the left, and move until the desired position is taken. If necessary, by moving forward, you can correct the position.

Perpendicular

This type of parking is often used:

  • in the yards;
  • in the parking lot in front of the supermarket;
  • car parks.

Step-by-step instruction

Instructions for Perpendicular Reversing Parking with Left Hand Drive:

  1. We choose a place for the upcoming parking, taking into account that the lateral distance between the cars in the end is at least 40-50 cm. Otherwise, it will be problematic to open the doors to the driver and passengers of parked vehicles.
  2. Moving perpendicular parked cars until we pass a little forward from the free space. This will be the starting position for starting the maneuver.
  3. We stop so that the trunk area is at the level of the rear of a perpendicularly parked car at a distance of 40-50 cm.
  4. We turn the steering wheel to the extreme left position. Before starting the movement, you must make sure that the space behind is free to start maneuvers.
  5. Focusing on the left side mirror, we begin a slow movement back, maintaining the initially taken distance between vehicles.
  6. When the car takes a parallel position relative to other cars, we align the steering wheel to its original position and complete the maneuver.
  7. If the distance to the cars on one side turned out to be greater than on the other, you can correct your position by moving forward and even back out.

To study the theory of this is still not enough to safely perform maneuvers in reverse. If at first glance everything is extremely simple and understandable, then in practice everything is much more complicated. There will not always be ideal conditions for parking a vehicle.

Don't rush

At normal traffic in city traffic, the driver must control several factors:

  • the behavior of other road users;
  • the situation around the vehicle;
  • compliance with traffic rules;
  • driving the car itself.

When parking, the driver must also monitor these factors. To begin with, it is better to choose some site as a training ground, where, under the guidance of more experienced car enthusiast you can practice and analyze the errors.

If at the training ground you can limit yourself to only words when making a mistake, then in a real situation you can lose not only rights, but also a significant amount of money for repairs.

As landmarks, you can set cones or ordinary carton boxes, to avoid damage to the vehicle. It is rare when a person for the first time sitting behind the wheel will be able to successfully (without errors) pass the basic standards for driving.

Environmental control

Ideal conditions, when there is no flow of moving cars around, no one bothers to concentrate and engage exclusively in parking, rarely happen. In an urban environment, this is unlikely.

Therefore, it is necessary to be prepared for this and constantly monitor your surroundings so that the maneuvers performed do not impede the movement of other motorists and do not create a traffic jam.

Safety

Each technically sound vehicle is equipped with a special white light signal, which turns on when the reverse speed gearboxes.

Responsibility

Every motorist driving a vehicle is responsible for his actions. If there are few skills and it was not possible to park as described in the instructions, do not leave the car in the wrong position.

Video - Perpendicular reverse parking in a limited space:

An improperly parked car interferes with other road users and can cause an accident.

Also, do not occupy more than one parking space - this will cause confusion among other drivers.

Therefore, if you can not park in the selected parking space, it is better to look for another one.

Do not panic

Even if something went wrong, do not immediately panic. In such cases, it will not be superfluous to stop, get out of the car and visually assess the situation in order to understand at what stage the mistake was made.

Don't be lazy

Don't rely on "maybe". When parking in reverse, a significant part of the car is out of sight, and sometimes even experienced drivers make mistakes due to a misunderstanding of the dimensions, or vice versa, as a result of excessive self-confidence.

So it's better once again stop and carefully inspect the place of future parking in order to avoid collision with any object.

Conclusion

There is no limit to perfection in driving a car. It is impossible to describe all the subtleties and nuances - this is acquired only with experience. Constant training, accuracy and attentiveness are the key to safe reverse parking and driving in general.

How to implement it correctly and what should be paid attention to first of all.

For every novice driver, reverse parking is the most difficult operation. And not every driving school teaches this method of parking, giving only the basics in driving and parking. Many drivers are forced to gain experience in this maneuver on their own, sometimes making mistakes or causing damage to other car owners.

Therefore, to avoid similar situations, it is better to study the parking process in detail first in theory, and then slowly in practice.

Types of parking

Before proceeding with the study, it is worth clarifying for yourself two important truths: parking is parallel and perpendicular. These two methods are very different from each other.

Parallel parking is when you park your car parallel to the curb and the road. This method is relevant when there is a need to stop for a short time, drop off passengers or drop by the nearest store.

Perpendicular parking - the car is placed perpendicular to the curb and the road, at a right angle. This type is used when setting up transport for a long time, in parking lots, in the yards of multi-storey buildings, etc.

Important! Depending on your situation, you can use one or another parking method.

Reversing parking for women

Most women studying at a driving school are embarrassed to ask an instructor to teach them how to park in reverse. So in the end, all they can do is stop at the curb.

Attention! In driving schools, there are special areas for teaching parking in reverse, perpendicular and parallel way!

But do not despair, our article will help you get basic theoretical skills that you can easily apply in action.

Parallel parking in reverse

So, let's take a closer look at parallel parking.

At first glance, this is the easiest way to park the car at the side of the road. In fact, the difficulty may lie if there is not enough space for a free driveway, and you need to squeeze between two other cars.

Choose a place

So, if you estimated the distance at less than 1.5 car lengths, then it is recommended to look for another place. Even experienced drivers do not always dare to squeeze into such a pocket, to say nothing of newcomers on the road. It's easier to look for more free space than to risk damaging three cars at once.

Performing a maneuver

Parallel reverse parking between two vehicles is performed if the distance exceeds 1.5 vehicle lengths.

In the same way, you can make a maneuver to put the car in a special pocket on the side of the road. The scheme of parallel parking in reverse is very simple, you can see for yourself.

In more detail and clearly, you can see how to parallel park in reverse on the video:

Perpendicular reverse parking

The most difficult maneuver is considered to be perpendicular reverse parking in urban conditions, when there is very little space for a U-turn and entry. Therefore, this method of setting should be approached very carefully and slowly. After several attempts, you will be able to put the car perpendicular to the road quite easily and quickly. As they say, experience comes with practice.

Choosing a starting position

It is extremely important when parking backwards perpendicularly to choose the right position from which you can start moving. To do this, you need to pass the car that will be on your right after successful parking, so that your rear hood is at the level of its front bumper. This is the starting position for starting the pocket run maneuver.

Carrying out perpendicular parking

The width of the main passage between cars is on average 6 meters. This is the distance you will be maneuvering and use to get into the pocket.

  • Stop, as indicated above, unscrew the front wheels until they stop, in the opposite direction from standing next to car side;
  • drive as far forward as possible and stop. Please note: in the right side mirror you should see the left rake angle the car near which they had just stood;
  • align the wheels to their original position, slowly start moving back, approximately 1-1.5 m;
  • as soon as your rear wheel is level with the front corner of someone else's car, turn the steering wheel in the opposite direction from it and slowly drive into your pocket;
  • making sure you don't snag on the left standing car, turn the steering wheel all the way and, when driving, observe the distance from the right car;
  • when you position your car at the same distance from both adjacent ones, then put the wheels straight and drive straight in reverse.

Thus, you can park your car in the parking lot, in the parking lot or near the house - wherever there is a need for perpendicular parking.

To fully understand reverse parking between two cars, the video will help you:

The most common mistakes

Young and inexperienced drivers can make exactly the same mistakes when parking backwards. To avoid them, you just need to understand why they happen.

Mistake No. 1 Collision with the nearest car located in the direction of travel.

An incorrectly chosen place of the starting position can lead to just such a situation, and cause damage to someone else's property. In this case, you have passed the original location. To avoid a collision, stop, turn your wheels straight ahead and drive forward a meter. Then again turn the steering wheel in the opposite direction from the side car and repeat the movement backwards.

Mistake #2. Hitting the second distant car.

The reason for the collision is, again, the wrong starting position - you did not reach it. In this case, it is recommended to turn out and start the maneuver again.

Mistake #3. Offset of the vehicle from the center: to the left or right side. In some cases, this can lead to a side collision or an inability to open the car door.

Aligning the car

When parking perpendicularly in reverse, there is often a shift to one side of the central marking. If this happened to you too, then there is an opportunity to fix it.

  • Turn the steering wheel all the way so that the wheels turn in the direction of a greater distance;
  • move forward and drive for a distance of approximately one meter. Your goal is to turn the axle of the car at an angle with respect to the parking space;
  • align the wheels straight ahead and drive another meter. In this case, the distance between your rear wheels and nearby vehicles
  • now turn the wheels towards a smaller distance and drive forward a little;
  • you just have to align the wheels to their original position, and reverse into the gap between the cars.

How to get out of the parking lot in reverse

Be extremely careful when reversing out of the parking lot, you must be ready at any time to press the brake pedal and stop the car.

  • Engage reverse gear and begin to slowly drive out of the pocket;
  • at the moment when your windshield is opposite the rear bumper of the car located on the right, turn the steering wheel to the right;
  • keep an eye on the left wing so that they do not hurt nearest car;
  • the more you leave the dead end, the more turn the wheels to the right;
  • Having completely left, stop, turn the wheels in the opposite direction and begin to slowly move forward.

What is important to know

Some drivers do not attach special significance compliance general rules when parking backwards, resulting in nasty collisions and property damage. Here are the basics of proper parking:

Important! Keeping and considering these simple rules, you will not only save your car from damage, but also protect other road users from damage.

Remember that if you are unable to exit or enter the parking lot on your own, you can always ask for help from a parking attendant or other drivers.
