The premiere of the Mercedes Actros family took place relatively recently - in 1995. The manufacturer planned to replace the Mercedes SK line, which was rapidly losing popularity. The developers went in a revolutionary way, radically reworking the design. There was nothing left of the predecessor in the Mercedes Actros. The first generation received a huge amount of electronics and a new design. At the same time, the standard design in the form of a durable chassis and a large cabin has been preserved. The corporate style has also remained: a powerful radiator grille and a massive brand logo.
The debut generation appeared in 1995 and was produced in the format of truck tractors with different wheel arrangements. The line of power units consisted of V-shaped "sixes" with a capacity of 130-460 "horses". The engines were equipped with a PLD system, which caused a lot of criticism because it malfunctioned and was demanding on fuel quality. Initially, the debut Mercedes Actros was equipped with manual gearboxes, but then versions with an electronic transmission Telligent Gearbox (16 speeds) appeared. For the car, several types of cabins were provided with and without berths. In Europe, the Mercedes Actros has become very popular. At that time, in terms of characteristics and capabilities, the model was the leader in its segment. In 2010, the assembly of the family was opened in Naberezhnye Chelny at the joint venture of KamAZ and Daimler.
In 2012, the German manufacturer again surprised its fans by introducing the fourth generation of Mercedes Actros. Its development costs exceeded $1 billion. car received modular scheme. Similar performance was achieved due to the wide and rigid frame, designed specifically for highway trucks. The basic designs remained, but changes were made to the suspension system. The car received an air suspension with air springs. Shock absorbers and axle stabilizers were also installed on all modifications of the series.
The force in the Mercedes Actros is transmitted to the rear axle through a fully automated Mercedes PowerShift 2 gearbox with high-sensitivity shift sensors that provide instant response to changing conditions. Consumers are offered 12- and 16-speed transmissions. For rear axles long gear ratios, allowing you to work at low speeds to save fuel. In modifications with engines with a capacity of 510-598 hp. the hypoid axis HL 8 of increased strength is used. On versions with units up to 480 hp. and low frame models, an HL 6 axle is used. An optional drive axle with HL 7 wheel speeds is available. The Mercedes Actros suspension has been tested on 20 million km of roads, where it has confirmed its high performance and reliability.
The brake system of the car is highly efficient. Availability ABS systems, ASR and modern disk braking devices with internal ventilation provide a short braking distance. The brake system functions with a constant pressure in the drive at the level of 10 atmospheres. The car also has an additional braking system that can react to danger in a short period of time and provide sharp braking. At the moment of braking, non-wearing brake mechanisms are used.
