In November 2013, Russia started accepting applications for the new BMW X5 (index F15). The layout of the cabin is still five-seater with the possibility of ordering the installation of two more third-row seats for passengers whose height is not higher than 1.5 meters. The usable trunk space in the third generation of the crossover is noticeably larger than that of its predecessor. Specifications. Initially, the engine range for the 3rd generation BMW X5 offered only three options. power plant, but after the launch of production in Kaliningrad, three more engines were added to it, which significantly expanded the options for choice.

  • The base version of the xDrive25d received an in-line 4-cylinder 2.0-liter turbodiesel with direct injection and a 16-valve timing under the hood, which is capable of producing up to 218 hp. power at 4400 rpm and provide up to 450 Nm of torque in the range from 1500 to 2500 rpm. With the younger engine, the X5 will be able to make a starting jerk from 0 to 100 km / h in an acceptable 8.2 seconds, while the upper speed limit is limited to 220 km / h. As for fuel consumption, the xDrive25d modification eats up about 5.9 liters of fuel on average.
  • The Germans equipped xDrive30d with an N57 D30 in-line diesel engine with six cylinders of 2993 cm³ and a return of 249 hp. at 4000 rpm. The engine is no longer new, well-proven, but has undergone major modernization. In particular, the injection pressure was increased (from 1600 to 1800 bar), the mass of the motor was reduced and the operation of almost all electronic controls was reconfigured. We also note that the diesel is equipped with a new turbocharger with variable geometry, third-generation battery injection and Bosch piezo injectors. The engine torque has been increased to 560 Nm at 1500 - 3000 rpm, which will accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in just 6.9 seconds, while the upper speed limit will be 230 km / h. According to the manufacturer, average level fuel consumption this motor is at around 6.2 liters.
  • The same diesel engine, but with a triple turbo system (N57S) will decorate engine compartment xDriveM50d modifications. In this case, the maximum power is about 381 hp. at 4000 - 4400 rpm, and the peak torque falls at around 740 Nm in the range from 2000 to 3000 rpm. Such characteristics will provide the crossover with impressive traction, allowing it to make a starting spurt from 0 to 100 km / h in an almost record-breaking 5.3 seconds for the class, but at the same time it will require at least 6.7 liters of fuel for every 100 km of track.
  • Between the two engines described above, there is another diesel modification - xDrive40d, which received a 6-cylinder 3.0-liter power unit with a capacity of 313 hp, developed at 4400 rpm. Like previous engines, this engine is equipped with direct fuel injection and a turbocharging system. The peak torque of the unit is 630 Nm and is kept in the range of 1500 - 2500 rpm, which allows you to accelerate the crossover from 0 to 100 km / h in 6.1 seconds or reach 236 km / h top speed, spending about 6.4 liters of fuel in the combined cycle.

There will be gasoline engines in Russia, but only two:

  • The role of the base will be performed by the unit designed to modify the xDrive35i. It has 6 cylinders with a displacement of 3.0 liters (2979 cm³), a 24-valve timing, direct fuel injection and a turbocharging system. All available motors are fully compliant environmental standard Euro-6, and in the "Eco Pro" mode, they are able to save almost 20% of fuel due to a "cunning" technological solution: at speeds in the range of 50-160 km / h, when the gas pedal is fully released, the gearbox automatically switches to neutral, transferring the crossover to driving coasting. The manufacturer promises another 5% savings due to a “smart” tie with navigation system, which, knowing the configuration of the route, will regularly tell the driver when it is necessary to slow down so that they do not have to resort to braking before turning.

The 8-speed ZF8HP automatic transmission, which first appeared in 2008 on the BMW 760Li sedan, was chosen as the gearbox for all three engines. The "Automatic" was seriously improved by rewriting the control program, reducing its weight and reducing friction losses by 4%.

According to the developers, the BMW X5 is the founder of the SAV (Sports Activity Vehicle) class: sports cars for active rest, and therefore, to maintain the appropriate image, driving tests are held in cities that previously hosted the Olympics: Atlanta in 1999 (E53), Athens in 2006 (E70), and the F15 was “run in” in Vancouver.

Then new, much more powerful engine options appeared.

The first generation of the car was equipped with independent suspension and all-wheel drive with electronic distribution torque. The mechanics very cleverly arranged the system: when the wheel slips, it “slows down” it and at the same time gives greater moment to the rest of the wheels. This explains good cross car.

Did all this make it possible to get an SUV from a crossover? Probably not, experts say. BMW X5 E53, having received many good qualities, nevertheless, he did not reach the “full-fledged all-terrain vehicle”. Instead of a frame, the designers planned a load-bearing body, which naturally affected all the qualities of the car. The Germans also “overdid it” with automatics: when entering a hill or getting into a rut, it does not allow you to switch to a lower gear, and during sharp turns the car can be brought to desired course only the steering wheel, the gas pedal in this case "falls into a stupor."

Incredibly expensive spare parts, as well as crazy fuel consumption (with the declared 10 liters, on a test drive, the consumption was twice as high as the norm) - the price for the "chic" and elegance of the car, automatically transferring the owner to the category of successful businessmen.

Be that as it may, it was the BMW X5 that was recognized in 2002 as the best all-wheel drive car in Australia. And after 3 years, this title was confirmed by hitting Top Gear. Other major brands followed BMW's lead, resulting in Porsche Cayenne, Range Rover Sport, Volkswagen Touareg.

Some puffiness of the features inherent in the predecessor under the E70 index has disappeared without a trace in the new F15. On one side of the automatic transmission selector, the keys for controlling the chassis settings and other systems have settled, on the other, the plump puck of the new I-Drive, which has taken over the touch panel. Bavarians, like Stuttgarters, seem to be firmly convinced that poking your finger directly at the monitor screen is not only not aesthetically pleasing, but also unsafe, since the touch screen distracts attention from the road.

More on the little things: the buttons for the electric windows and mirrors have moved from the soft part of the armrests forward to the plastic base. The stowage pockets in the doors have expanded, suggesting the placement of more voluminous items in them - however, as it seemed to us, such an upgrade could be a little confusing for overly full or long-legged riders.

Although the base, like the track, has not undergone any changes with the change of generations, the interior of the car, nevertheless, provides the inhabitants of the front seats with 11 mm more space in the shoulders and 31 mm above the crown. Rear Passengers remained practically at their own, and in terms of air supply over their heads they even turned out to be offended by 6 mm, however, with solid internal dimensions crossover hardly anyone will notice. But the trunk has increased in volume by 30 liters, and with the sofa folded - and in general by all 120 liters. In addition, for some 115,124 rubles, a double third row of seats can be installed in a car. So we can safely say: the interior of the X5 has become more spectacular, more comfortable and more functional.

Dynamics and economy

As we have repeatedly noted, the Bavarians are in no hurry to bring all the modifications to the market at once. So far, cars with only three engines can be purchased in Russia: a 4.4-liter petrol and two 3-liter diesel engines. The power of the V-shaped "eight" has grown by no less than 10%, and the torque has increased by almost the same amount. Up to a hundred, a car with this engine accelerates half a second faster, and consumes much less fuel - by 1.3 liters on the highway and (hard to believe!) By 3.5 liters in the city.

Diesel engines are not so far away from their predecessors, but they can still show something to the discerning buyer. Modification 30d with an additional four "horses" is faster by 0.7 s, and at the same time saves from 1.0 to 1.7 liters, depending on the rhythm of movement. As for the heart of the M50d badged triple-turbo car, it gets to 100 km/h 0.1 seconds faster and consumes 0.6 liters less fuel on the freeway and 1.2 liters less in city traffic.

No doubt in soon the Bavarians will delight us with cars armed with the famous in-line "six" in the 35i version, as well as the most powerful X5M. As for diesel power unit about four cylinders with a capacity of 218 horsepower or an exotic rear-wheel drive "S-Drive-25d", already on sale in Germany, then we are unlikely to see them.

Budget

Since not the cheapest versions were the first to arrive on the Russian market, it will still be difficult to make a correct comparison of the old and new generations in terms of price and equipment. However, the trend is somehow clear. The old 30d cost 72 thousand less than the new one, and was distinguished by its lack of a start-stop system, adaptive cruise control and bluetooth with USB. However, the asset of the "old man" included partial electric adjustment of the front seats - so it's a draw. Of course, if the car were to suddenly become miraculously cheaper, that would be great; and yet a rise in price of two and a half percent in this class can be considered insignificant - approximately this amount will cost you, for example, a projection display.

Safety

The last time Euro NCAP smashed the X5 was a long time ago in 2003; besides, it was a car of the generation before last. However, there is no doubt that the Bavarian crossover is really safe. Looking at the new BMW X5, outwardly, a new round of evolution is immediately felt. When I got into the salon, I immediately realized that this was a new technological leap. Fewer buttons and a new level of ergonomics. And what is especially pleasant, I had the feeling that the salon of the new X, as it were, says "I'm the whole owner for your convenience." It seems that the dashboard is directly closer and more deployed to the driver. Some amazing combination of spacious and at the same time cozy, friendly and technological interior. Further. Soundproofing is very well thought out. It is better than it was in all my previous BMWs. It's like being in a cocoon. You start the engine and at low speeds it is even almost inaudible. Go. Only the Seven had such comfort, but the BMW X5 also had a high seating position. I don't have pneumonia. I don’t know how the Bavarians managed to do this, but the suspension is really very thoroughbred in its innate splendor. And coupled with chic soundproofing, it’s generally “relaxation” from everything that’s going on outside the window and on the road. I even hope that I don’t have to lower X after installing 22 wheels for a cool look, I really don’t want to lose today’s fabulous comfort. Favorite engine 30d - song. Perhaps after 150 km / h his playfulness will decrease, but in the city he is simply king. My last gasoline 35i on the F15 was driving the same 6.5 seconds according to the passport, but the sensations were not at all the same. Even the 50i on the X6 didn't ride as nicely as the 30d. Gasoline rides after a good push on the gas pedal and a second of thoughtfulness, and on a diesel engine, a light touch on the pedal is enough, and there is always a lot of pleasant and elastic traction under the foot. I am very happy that I got a BMW X5 with laser headlights, this is only the luck of the first batch, they will not bet more on 30d. The BMW X5 now really has the best best light, and in the "long distance" it is priceless. Before I put the BMW X5 in the studio, they didn’t have time to register navigation maps for me, but from the photo and video it’s cool.
