The fifth generation BMW M3 F80 (2017-2018) was first shown to the public at the North American Auto Show in 2014. The car began to be sold in Europe in the spring of 2014, and it arrived in Russia only in the summer of the same year. The model is currently produced only in the sedan body, and the manufacturers put the coupe and convertible into a separate model and named it, but we will talk about it in another review.
This is a new series and therefore it differs radically from the previous one, the model has become completely different, but it is still recognizable in the stream. We will start the review by tradition with design.
Exterior
As we have already said, the appearance of the car has changed a lot, its muzzle has received a long hood with a lot of bumps. The optics correspond to the civilian version of this car, it is narrow, it has LED filling and, of course, there are branded angel eyes.
Between the headlights is a branded grille with a chrome trim, which, in turn, is connected to the headlights. A rather massive, aerodynamic and aggressive bumper is installed, which has two huge air intakes in the lower part. The bumper looks really menacing.
Also, the side part of the BMW M3 2017-2018 model has undergone drastic changes. Here, after the front arch, there is a gill with chrome decoration, from which the upper line of the body goes through the door opening handles, it looks cool. The wheel arches are quite swollen, and there is also a small stamping in the lower part, which in turn visually connects the arches to each other. The design of the rear-view mirrors has changed, at first glance it seems that they have two racks, but this is not so, there is only one rack.
The rear of the car has also undergone major changes, it received a large trunk lid, which has a small but still noticeable spoiler in the upper part. Aggressive proprietary optics are installed at the back, allowing you to recognize the manufacturer by its style. The rear bumper is also quite massive, it has reflectors that look menacing. Also under the bumper are four pipes of the exhaust system with a chic sound.
The dimensions of the model have also changed:

The manufacturer also changed the filling of the model. It has a 3 liter inline six-cylinder engine. This motor is turbocharged and produces 431 horsepower and 550 units of torque. The unit is paired with a robotic seven-speed gearbox, but a six-speed manual is also offered.
The model will always have rear-wheel drive, the manufacturer does not offer all-wheel drive versions. All this gave good dynamics in 4 seconds to the first hundred and 250 kilometers per hour of maximum speed, limited by electronics. Also, with a quiet ride, in principle, it is not so voracious, you will have 11 liters of 98th gasoline in the city and 7 liters on the highway. Of course, if you drive, these numbers will be much higher.
The manufacturer took the suspension from the civilian version, but slightly changed it. The rear and front subframes have changed almost completely, most of the elements in the chassis were made of aluminum. And so it's a classic MacPherson strut in front and a multi-link system in the back. In addition, the model has excellent disc brakes with ventilation, 4-piston brakes are installed in front and 2-piston rear brakes. For extra money, a ceramic system is also offered, which is much better than the base one. The model is well controlled, and there are also driving modes, which affects the rigidity and ease of control.
As we have already said, the model has rear-wheel drive, but an active differential with electronically controlled wheel locks was introduced into it, and a carbon-fiber propeller shaft was also installed, thereby making it lighter than on the civilian version.

Also, the interior of the model has undergone a significant change compared to the previous generation. Very high quality materials are used, such as good leather, alcantara and many carbon bets. In addition, at a high level and build quality.

The center console immediately at the top meets us with a large display of the multimedia system. Below it we see a classic picture for this manufacturer - these are two air deflectors, between which there are alarm buttons and power window locks. Under this we already meet the volume control selector and switching radio stations, also in that area there is a slot for CDs. Under these already selectors there is a separate climate control unit, it consists of two twists that are familiar to many, a display in the middle that displays all the information and a bunch of buttons, in principle everything is clear, but at first glance you get a little scared.
The tunnel, located between the driver and front passenger, has at the very beginning a pair of boxes for small things. After it, we see the gearbox selector, to the left of which there are buttons for enabling / disabling ESP and other things. On the right is a carbon fiber insert, on which there is a washer and several buttons for controlling the multimedia system, and to the left of all this is the parking brake handbrake. It is unlikely that anyone will use the trunk in this car. But still, if there are such people, then it will please you, since its volume is 480 liters.

As we have already said, the model began to be sold almost after the very start of sales, around the world a little later. The basic equipment of the model cost 3,222,000 rubles, for this money you received the following:

The fourth generation of the BMW M3, which debuted in 2007, was available in sedan, coupe and hardtop coupe-convertible body styles. The fifth generation (according to the “third eMoks”, based on the sixth generation of the 3-series) of the BMW M3 sedan was presented at the Detroit Auto Show. All this made it possible to significantly reduce the weight of the novelty, so now the minimum curb weight of the BMW M3 F80 is only 1560 kg. As for the dimensions, the length of the body of the sedan is 4671 mm, the length of the wheelbase is 2812 mm, the width without mirrors is 1877 mm, together with the mirrors it increases to 2037 mm, but the height of the novelty is limited to 1430 mm. The front and rear track widths are 1579 and 1603 mm, respectively. The ride height is 122mm.
The four-seater saloon of this sedan was created on the basis of the BMW 3-Series F30, but differs in a large bias towards sports design and the presence of bucket-shaped front seats. Otherwise, the interior of the novelty is practically indistinguishable from the serial "three rubles". Note that the useful volume of the trunk of the M3 is now 480 liters.
Specifications. The F80th BMW received a completely new engine, which replaced the old V8 with a return of 420 “horses”. The novelty is now equipped with an in-line six-cylinder TwinPower Turbo S55 power unit with two turbochargers and a displacement of 3.0 liters (2979 cm³), based on the N55 engine. The engine is equipped with a 24-valve timing, a direct fuel injection system, a throttle-free mixture formation system, a system for adjusting the height and duration of raising the intake valves, as well as intake and exhaust phase shifters. The maximum engine power due to modernization has been raised to 431 hp. (317 kW), which develop in the range from 5500 to 7300 rpm. The peak torque falls at around 550 Nm, held in the range of 1850 - 5500 rpm.
In the base, the engine is aggregated with the new Getrag 6-speed “mechanics”, which allows the sedan to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in just 4.3 seconds. As an option, you can install a 7-band “robot” with two clutches, which will reduce the starting acceleration time to 4.1 seconds with the “Launch control” function turned on. The top speed limit in both cases is electronically limited to 250 km/h, but it can be pushed up to 280 km/h with the optional M Driver's Package.
As for fuel consumption, this BMW M3 consumes about 8.8 liters of AI-95 gasoline with a manual transmission, and 8.3 liters in a mixed driving mode with an optional "robot".
The fifth generation of the BMW M3 received the F80 platform index - most of the chassis of which was borrowed from the BMW 3-Series F30. At the front, the developers used an independent suspension on MacPherson struts, and at the rear they used an independent multi-link suspension. True, we note that the geometry of the front and rear subframes was changed, many elements received more aluminum in their composition, and most of the silent blocks were replaced with hinges. In the base, the novelty receives disc brakes on all wheels (4-piston front and 2-piston rear), which can be optionally replaced with carbon-ceramic brakes with 6-piston calipers in front and 4-piston rear. The steering is complemented by an electromechanical power steering with three operating modes: "Comfort", "Sport" and "Sport+".
The sedan received a rear-wheel drive with an active differential with electronically controlled wheel locks and a lightweight cardan shaft made of durable carbon fiber. The degree of blocking of each wheel can now vary from 0 to 100%, which allows you to use the differential as a means of assisting when passing tight corners or taking the car out of a controlled skid.
Options and prices. Sedan BMW M3 already in early 2014 is available for pre-order from official Russian dealers. The debut of the novelty in our market is expected closer to the beginning of summer, but the prices have already been announced. For the basic version of the BMW M3 with manual transmission, adaptive cruise control, climate control, bi-xenon headlights and 18-inch wheels, the Germans are asking for a price of at least 3,222,000 rubles.
