But the trouble is, the progressive OM651 is just a 2.1 engine, which was installed on the GLK 200CDI, 220CDI and 250CDI models. Even one or two teeth of gears or chains can cause valves and pistons to meet. More often than not, the problem is a plastic guide or chain tensioner, and this is a relatively inexpensive problem that, however, runs the risk of causing expensive ones. Provided that there are no problems with the nozzles, this motor can be considered the golden mean in terms of operating costs, in terms of dynamics, and the automatic transmission with it has a good resource.

The three-liter turbodiesel OM642, which is rare in our country (only 3% of cars), is much more reliable. This six-cylinder V-shaped unit suffers neither from a lack of power nor special maintenance problems, except for quite typical "electric" ones in the form of a burnout of the glow plug control unit or the eternal trouble of diesels in the form of EGR, a turbine, injectors, a particulate filter and a vulnerable fuel pump. The nozzles coke, and here it is better to check the possibility of removing them immediately.

A malfunction of the intake manifold flaps is “treated” quite inexpensively, and the intake manifold itself is changed only in the most advanced cases. Most often, such motors get to the mechanics precisely because of the particulate filter - it clogs. Moreover, if you drive with a burning “check” on the back pressure sensor, this quickly finishes off both the expensive turbine and the EGR system.

A little more often, a car gets to an electrical diagnostician with problems with an intake manifold or turbine servo drive (from $ 150 to $ 300 per part).
