The belt had been asking for a replacement for a long time, a new one was bought and lay in the trunk along with the roller. The replacement of the belt had to be combined with the replacement of the radiator. I flipped through fifty pages on the forums, did not remember anything, went to change. I already had a lot of things unscrewed, but, just in case, I will list in detail:

1. Remove the washer reservoir, do not touch the tubes. Heads 8.10 are needed.
2. Weaken the belt tension. Keys 19, 8.
3. Remove the wheel.
4. We unscrew the stretching of the front suspension arm (one nut 24 and three bolts 17 each).
5. Remove the engine mudguard. A bunch of self-tapping screws with a head 8 and two bolts 10.
6. Let's jack the engine by the pillow bracket so that it is only slightly supported. We put the jack not at the very edge of the bracket, a little deeper into the engine compartment. Otherwise, it will interfere with pushing a new belt and removing the old one without cutting it. Watch locally.
7. First, unscrew the two nuts and the bolt of the pillow to the body (on top of the pillow).
8. We lower the engine down a little to remove the load from the two remaining bolts.
9. Then we unscrew the two bolts securing the pillow to the bracket (in the center). Need a Torx E14 socket.
10. Remove the pillow, change the belt through the gap.
11. We pry off the cover of the tensioner roller. Unroll the roller. LEFT THREAD! We change.
12. We collect everything back.

Tip: Don't buy 3/8" Torx kits as a set. It’s a problem to find a collar or adapter under them, a 1/4 + 1/2 inch set is better.

2. Prepare the necessary tool. To work, you will need a nineteen and eight millimeter key.

If you find a loose belt, then do not delay the work. Please note that due to such a malfunction, the efficiency of the generator decreases, there are interruptions in the voltage in the on-board network, a loud “slipping” of the belt on the pulley and other unpleasant problems.

Features of adjusting and tightening the alternator belt

Now let's look at how to properly tension the alternator belt. I would like to note that the whole process takes no more than 10-15 minutes. Therefore, going to the service station and emptying your wallet to pay for the master is at least stupid.

Proceed in the following sequence:

Locate the tension bar and slightly unscrew the lock nut on it, otherwise you simply cannot turn the adjusting bolt. If the washer reservoir interferes, remove it, but this is not necessary.

We rotate the tensioner bolt, achieving the moment until the necessary belt tension is created.

After that, tighten the lock nut with the required force, on this the work of tightening the belt on the Lada Kalina is completed, it remains only to check.

After completing the work, be sure to check that the belt tension is correct (using one of the methods that we mentioned above) and that the generator is operating normally.

To do this, turn on the ignition and carefully inspect the instrument panel (the corresponding indicator should light up on it, the battery is charging).

Now you can start the engine and let the car run a little. All this time, watch the indicator - after a few seconds it should go out.

Choice of manufacturers

Of all the options that were offered in the shop windows, I chose GATES. Why I settled on this particular company, I will tell below. And also a few words about other manufacturers.

  1. Firstly, I would like to say about the Balakovo belts, in the abbreviation "BRT". I had a bad experience with them, and even twice. But only it was not on Kalina, but on another car 2112. The BRT timing belt broke twice with a run of less than 10,000 km, as a result of which the engine repair cost a considerable amount both times. Maybe at the local points where I bought these components, I came across a fake, but now there is no trust in this manufacturer.
  2. Other belt manufacturers, such as Finwhale, Continental and ANDYCAR, did not particularly interest me, although I can’t say anything bad about them, since I had no experience. The price range is about the same, around 350 rubles.
  3. Now about GATES and why I chose it. At AvtoVAZ, 80% of cars are fitted with GATES belts from the factory. And as for these particular components, I have no complaints about this brand. The factory timing belt has been running for about 50 thousand and no signs of wear are visible, the teeth do not peel off, as often happens on low-quality belts. Yes, and hundreds of reviews, at least on the Drive, at least on the same Kalinoclub, they say that the products of this company are very high quality.

In general, everything has changed, now you can safely ride on straining, although you still put the old one in the trunk as a spare, you never know what!
