Diesel hover h5. Selling Great Wall Hover H5 with a diesel engine in the Moscow region

01.09.2019

First about the good. The interior of the Hover H5 makes a good first impression. The design of the rounded instrument panel, the quality of finishing materials - this, of course, is not yet Europe or even Korea, but for a "Chinese" it is very good.

Visibility is normal, large knobs and buttons are in place, the instruments are informative, the plastic is solid to the touch, but of sufficient quality and does not creak, and the interior itself test machine turned out to be assembled in such a way that it didn’t rattle on the bumps and didn’t sing along with “crickets”. True, instead of leatherette-looking leather seat trim, I personally would prefer velor, which is much more appropriate here.

The interior of the Hover H5 makes a good impression. The design of the rounded instrument panel for the "Chinese" is very good.

Ever since my last trip to St. Petersburg, I remember that the Hover has a successful seat profile in which you don’t get tired in long road, and a decent range of adjustments. And the fact that even with the pillow raised to the stop, the landing still remains low in a passenger way - this is already a legacy of the frame layout of the Isuzu Axiom body, which underlies the Hover.

In the back row, it also sits not too high, but it is spacious: the ceiling does not press, it is wide in the shoulders and even with the pillow lowered down and pushed all the way front seat With a height of 180 cm, I do not rest my knees on the back of the chair. More spacious in this class - only UAZ Patriot.

The Hover has a good seat profile, in which you do not get tired on a long journey, and a decent range of adjustments.

By the way, I mentioned the "Patriot" here to the point. Because both he and Hover are surprisingly similar in terms of comments on the cabin. So, both have tight levers for turn signals and tilt steering column adjustment latches (although the Hover steering wheel has a larger range of fixations), both have inconvenient access to seat adjustments when the driver’s door is closed, the motors of the aft wipers howl during operation, and the gas and brake pedals They seem to be pretty close.

The rear view camera does not have a distance scale, but it is backed up by parking sensors in the rear bumper.

And both are equally affected by a phenomenon called " Russian assembly". Yes, yes, all Hovers supplied to our market are assembled in Russia, at the facilities of CJSC Gzhel Plant Elektroizolyator, in the village of Novo-Kharitonovo. And it seems that the “Made in Russia” brand is already beginning to spread its “magical” influence to the Chinese product.

For example, driver's door the new test Hover H5 sagged noticeably on the hinges, and on rough terrain it generally began to wedge in the opening, although other doors opened without problems. On the second day of the test, the key fob stopped locking the car with the button, and the tailgate began to rattle on bumps.

All Hovers supplied to our market are assembled in Russia, at the facilities of CJSC Gzhel Plant Elektroizolyator, in the village of Novo-Kharitonovo.

Empirically (I had to ride in the trunk myself), we found out that due to incorrect adjustment, the fifth door does not close tightly. It seems that you clap several times heartily (here it’s a pity for a state-owned car, but it will be a pity for your own even more!), but the door still often does not reach the stop by just a few millimeters and this slack, hardly noticeable to the eye, is enough for the locked door to begin to hang out and knock. Moreover, the signaling device on the panel is treacherously silent about the fact that the door has not closed completely!

But the alarm system "sees" this - and because of this refuses to lock the car from the key fob. Exit? Either drive the car to the dealer to “adjust” the door under warranty (and judging by the reaction of the IRITO representatives to whom I told this, this defect is known to them) or, closing the door, push it with your hand in the lower part.

In general, the "Chinese casket" opened (or rather, closed) simply. But the surprises didn't end there.

Engine and transmission

If the previous engines for Hover were "grown" from licensed Mitsubishi engines, then the latest four-cylinder turbodiesel of the GW4D20 series installed on the Hover H5 has already been declared as fully own development Great Wall Company. The company invested almost $82 million in the creation of a new diesel engine, having managed the work in less than two years (our car plants would have had such efficiency!).

150 hp removed from a working volume of 2 liters. at 4000 rpm.

The engine has four valves per cylinder, intake manifold variable length, the 1,800 bar common-rail fuel injection system is supplied by Delphi, and the BV43 turbocharger with variable geometry makes the Chinese branch of BorgWarner. 150 hp removed from a working volume of 2 liters. at 4000 rpm, but the main thing here is a solid torque of 310 Nm in the range of 1800-2800 rpm, which is 110 Nm more than the gasoline 136-horsepower 2.4-liter engine.

The GW4D20 series turbodiesel is declared as a completely own development of Great Wall.

WITH automatic transmission The Chinese did it easier: a five-speed hydromechanical “automatic” with the index 5R35, adapted for the Hover H5, equipped with a manual gear change function, is supplied to the Great Wall conveyor by Koreans from Hyundai Powertech. The gear ratios of the main pairs of axles have also been changed for the new motor with an “automatic”. For gasoline versions, they are equal to 4.22, and for the diesel version, faster pairs with gear ratio m 3.9, due to which maximum speed increased from 160 to 170 km/h.

The diesel Hover does not have a low gear.

As for appetite, according to the passport of the city, highway and mixed flow for the petrol 2.4-liter version it is 10.7, 8.2 and 9.4 l/100 km, while for the diesel it is 8.9, 7.6 and 8.4 l/100 km, respectively. In fact, during the test average consumption was approximately at the level of 11-12 liters per "hundred".

But the main surprise (although perhaps the word “bummer” is more appropriate here) Diesel Hover H5 lurked not in engine compartment, but in the all-wheel drive system. Instead of a simple part-time scheme with a hard-wired front axle diesel version received a transfer case BorgWarner TOD (Torque-On-Demand - “torque on demand”).

Instead of a simple part-time scheme with a hard-wired front axle, the diesel version received a BorgWarner TOD transfer case.

When pressing the AWD key during normal driving front axle is connected, but the clutch in the transfer case is open, and all the moment goes to the rear axle. As soon as rear wheels they begin to “grind”, the clutch closes at the command of the electronics and begins to “row” the front axle. Is it true, forced blocking this clutch does not exist! A strange decision, given that such a function is found even in pampered SUVs, in which the Hover H5 with its condo frame chassis seems to be too early to record.

How such a “parked” transmission will show itself off-road, we'll see.

Or is it time? After all, this BorgWarner transfer case ... does not have a low gear! That is, you can not look for the treasured 4L button, like in gasoline Hovers, on the instrument panel. How such a “parked” transmission will show itself off-road, we'll see. In the meantime, let's evaluate the new engine in action.

On the run

Hooray, he went! The new turbodiesel has finally made driving the Hover more of a ride than a vein puller like the petrol versions. The traction reserve is now enough for a dynamic "flow" in city traffic, and for safe overtaking on the road. Hyundai's five-speed "automatic" does not impress with its "rate of fire" during operation, but it changes gears gently, and in manual mode shifting allows you to effectively brake the engine.

Although I won’t keep silent about the fact that the engine itself noticeably “slows down” up to about 2000 rpm, which interferes, for example, in traffic jams: you need to dive from a place into the gap formed, give it gas - and the diesel engine “thinks”, slowly gaining momentum . After 2000 rpm, the engine wakes up sharply, a quiet rumbling on low revs is replaced by a hard metallic growl, and from about 3000 rpm, tangible resonant vibrations on the steering wheel are added to the diesel noise.

The new turbodiesel has finally made driving the Hover more of a ride than a vein puller like the petrol versions.

But these are already, as they say, “little things in life” that can be forgiven for a new diesel engine - if only it works reliably and does not suffer from a bouquet of “age-related” problems. Because one of these "children's sores" got out already on the second day of the test, when the pipe leading to the intercooler was torn off the turbocharger.

And it would be nice if he was pulled off by tension during the assault on the slopes, otherwise everything happened in a banal metropolitan traffic jam (it’s good that it’s not somewhere in the oncoming overtaking!). With the help of a Phillips screwdriver from the ZIP and such and such a mother, I quickly screwed the pipe back. Spoons, as they say, were found, but the sediment remained ...

Energy intensive and elastic suspension Hover H5 silently “eats” everything: ruts, transverse seams, bumps, large pits, tram rails

What the Hover H5 partly rehabilitates is the suspension. Energy-intensive and elastic, like a piece of rubber, it “eats” everything without too much noise: ruts, transverse seams, bumps, large pits, tram tracks ... Moreover, if the front independent torsion bar suspension sometimes still misses poking from large irregularities, then in the depths of the rear spring construction, all "disturbances" dissolve almost without a trace. What
the doctor prescribed for our chipped asphalt and broken primers!

As for disk brake mechanisms, then they are quite powerful in the Hover H5, although the tight and long-stroke brake pedal is not very informative and differs more in “cargo” shades of behavior.

The steering, on the contrary, is equally easy, both in the parking lot and on the highway, where there is an excess of information content and aggravation feedback it doesn't suffer either. But vibrations and bumps from bumps are noticeably transmitted to the steering wheel. And with a sharp shifting of the "Hover" from tack to tack, the steering wheel sometimes "bites" due to a lack of hydraulic booster performance. This surfaced during high-speed taxiing on a winding and slippery area our impromptu off-road training ground. And the moment of truth there has come not only for the steering system.

Vibrations and shocks from bumps are noticeably transmitted to the steering wheel.

And with a sharp shifting of the "Hover" from tack to tack, the steering wheel sometimes "bites" due to a lack of hydraulic booster performance.

off-road

Chinese engineers assure that the lack of a low row in the transfer case of the diesel Hover is compensated by the engine thrust reserve and the “short” first gear of the “automatic”. But if the gear ratio of the first stage in the “automatic” is 3.87, then for a mechanical five-speed box for a 2.4-liter gasoline engine it is already 3.99. In addition, the gasoline versions have more traction pairs of axles - 4.22 versus 3.9 for the Hover H5 with the TD prefix.

It is worth spinning the diesel a little above average speed, as the box, even in manual mode, arbitrarily jumps from the first stage to the second.

Of course, automatic transmission there is also a torque converter. But at the transfer box gasoline cars with "mechanics" iron argument in the form of a lower stage with a gear ratio of 2.48. Neither a torque converter nor an increase in torque can replace this. But in reality it looks like this.

In sand, mud or deep snow It is not easy to drive in tension, you will have to constantly keep the diesel in good shape, preventing it, on the one hand, from falling into a turbo pit below 2000 rpm, and on the other hand, not twisting it so as not to burrow. And the vaunted first gear is not a panacea here: it is worth spinning the diesel a little above average speed, as the box, even in manual mode, arbitrarily jumps from the first stage to the second. The result is constant twitching: there is a lot of thrust, then there is little, so you have to work with the accuracy of a jeweler on the gas pedal. With a lower gear, the ride would clearly be more measured and predictable.

There is either a lot or a little thrust, so the gas pedal has to be worked with the precision of a jeweler. With a lower gear, the ride would clearly be more measured and predictable.

The constant connection-disconnection of the front axle also contributes its share of fuss to the process. The clutch, in principle, works quickly, but it still cannot do without a fraction of the delay. In addition, it is interesting how much a clutch operating in such a “ragged” mode will resist overheating, especially if it takes a lot and a long time to “knead”?

Another noteworthy moment surfaced when trying to climb a slippery hill. It was worth slipping in the middle of the slope and throwing your foot from the gas to the brake, as the pedal stood up like a stake - and under the crackle of the ABS wheel releasing the Hover H5 rolled back! Good thing there was no one behind!

It was worth slipping in the middle of the slope and throwing your foot from the gas to the brake, as the pedal stood up like a stake - and under the crackle of the ABS wheel releasing the Hover H5 rolled back!

I remember that the same knees at one time threw out the first UAZ Patriot, which received ABS from Bosch. Then a noise arose, and the Boshevites had to hastily reconfigure this ABS. I wonder if the Chinese will do something similar? In the meantime, on the fifth door of the Hover, it’s time to sculpt a sign “Do not stand behind when storming the climbs!”.

Outcome

As I noted at the beginning, the Hover H5 TD turned out to be an ambiguous car. The tandem of a diesel engine with an “automatic” fit here successfully. But because of the “stripped down” all-wheel drive transmission, a car came out of the “neither ours nor yours” series. It seems not really a “SUV”, but not quite a classic SUV either.

Those for whom serious all-wheel drive transmission with a "lower" - this is not an empty phrase, they are unlikely to be seen among the buyers of such a Hover H5.

Of course, there is a category of buyers for whom such a simplified all-wheel drive is quite suitable: they don’t need to knead off-road, just as they don’t have to puzzle over when and how to connect and disconnect the front axle and downshift. But those for whom a serious all-wheel drive transmission with a “lower” is not an empty phrase are unlikely to be seen among the buyers of such a Hover H5.

Options and prices

The diesel Hover H5 with an “automatic” has only one and the most complete Lux equipment at a price of 845,000 rubles. (116,000 rubles more expensive than the most expensive Hover with a 2.4-liter gasoline engine). Like the top one petrol version, the equipment of the diesel H5 includes frontal airbags, leather-trimmed seats and steering wheel, a DVD player with touch screen, climate control, aft parking sensors with a rear view camera, power accessories (windows + mirrors), central locking with an immobilizer, heated mirrors and front seats, a curtain and a trunk mat, alloy wheels with tires 235/65R17, automatic switch on headlights, driver's seat servo, crankcase protection and ABS with EBD function.

The diesel Hover H5 with an "automatic" so far has only one and the most full set Luxe at a price of 845,000 rubles.

But there are differences: only on the "Hover" with a diesel engine "in the base" are offered a tire pressure controller, on-board computer and cruise control.
The list of options includes locks on the hood and gearbox, tow bar, fenders, deflectors on the hood and windows, protection of the sills and rear bumper, as well as several alarm models.

Competitors

The pool of frame rivals for the Hover H5 TD is small. UAZ Patriot with Iveco diesel(2.24 l, 116 hp, 270 Nm) is priced from 666,000 to 705,000 rubles. Petrol "Patrick" (2.7 l, 128 hp, 217 Nm) is even cheaper - from 525,000 to 615,000 rubles. The gearbox is only a five-speed "mechanics".
But a six-speed "automatic" (plus a lowered one in the transfer case and a part-time scheme) is available for SsangYong Kyron. The version with a licensed Mercedes turbodiesel (2 l, 141 hp, 310 Nm), including discounts until the end of 2011, costs from 930,000 to 1,009,000 rubles.

The pool of frame rivals for the Hover H5 TD is small: UAZ Patriot with Iveco diesel and Suzuki Grand Vitara...

Without a frame, but with a permanent all-wheel drive and downshift offered Japanese Suzuki Grand Vitara. The motors, however, are only gasoline and the “automatic” has only four gears. For a two-liter version (140 hp, 184 Nm) they ask from 1,059,000 rubles, and a 2.4-liter engine (168 hp, 227 Nm) will cost from 1,179,000 rubles.

To complete the picture, let's pull up here the "parquet" proposals, since such a topic has loomed. The closest in price is new SsangYong New Actyon with load-bearing body, independent suspensions and automatically connected rear axle. On an all-wheel drive with a basic two-liter diesel(149 hp, 360 Nm) and a six-speed automatic until the end of this year, a discount has been announced, taking into account which New Actyon costs from 889,000 to 979,000 rubles.

New SsangYong New Actyon and Kia Sportage.

You can also take a look at new Kia sportage. An all-wheel drive with a six-speed "automatic" and a gasoline engine (2 liters, 150 hp, 197 Nm) is now sold at a price of 1,089,900 rubles.

Russian country roads far from ideal, so SUVs in Russia are in great demand. Vehicle selection off-road big, but in the budget category it is much poorer.

For a long time, lovers of hunting and fishing could only buy UAZ for little money, but since the beginning of the 2000s, Russian market Chinese cars appeared.

Chinese crossover Great Wall Hover

Prototype crossover Great wall hover is japanese auto Isuzu Axiom, but Izuzda did not gain popularity in the Russian expanses. But Hover is constantly found on the roads, and in the budget class of SUVs it has few competitors.

"Chinese" It has frame structure, among all Great Wall cars, the Hover brand is the flagship model. IN mass production chinese car launched in 2005.

He immediately attracted the Russians

Low price;

Modern design;

Comfort;

Good technical characteristics;

Reliability.

At first, the SUV was produced in China, and since 2006, the Great Wall Hover has been assembled in Russia, in city near Moscow Gzhel. In 2010, the crossover was restyled, from the same year the H3 model with a 2.0-liter gasoline engine began to be produced.

In 2011, an SUV appeared on the automotive market Great Wall Hover H5 with an updated front cladding and a 2.4 liter engine.

Advantages and weaknesses of motors

Initially, three types of power units were installed on Hover:

1. Petrol engines 2.0 and 2.4 l;

2. Diesels 2.8 l.

Later on Hover H5 appeared diesel engine 2.0 l with fuel injection system common rail, and a 2.4-liter 4G64 gasoline engine with a capacity of 130 Horse power, was replaced by a 4G69 136 hp engine.

All ICEs are licensed copies of Mitsubishi, and there are no complaints about the quality of the motors. The main engine of the Great Wall Hover H5 is a four-cylinder 16-valve engine model 4G69, it can run on 92 gasoline, but AI-95 fuel is still preferable.

4G69 does not have hydraulic lifters, therefore, on the engine it is necessary to adjust the valves every 40-50 thousand kilometers of way. The motor is equipped with a timing belt drive, the frequency of replacement of gas distribution parts according to the regulations is after 90 thousand km. With careful handling of the car, the engine can travel more than 400 thousand km, it does not have any characteristic "diseases".

Overview and search for sores in the transmission

Mechanical five speed box gear Great Wall is not very different high reliability, the transmission on a Chinese car is characterized by noisy operation, fuzzy gear shifting. If the manual transmission makes noise on idling, and when the clutch is depressed, the sound disappears, this means that noisy input shaft bearing. Such a defect can appear on a car quite early, at 30-40 thousand km, but usually the box is repaired after the first hundred thousand kilometers.

Aisin automatic transmission is installed on Hover paired with a 2-liter diesel engine, with automatic transmission there are practically no problems. To "automatic" served for a long time need to be changed in time transmission fluid, it is replaced after about 60 thousand km.

Steering and chassis

pendant on Chinese SUV harsh, but the chassis parts go for a long time. Shock absorbers are the first to fail, they usually surrender on a run of 70 thousand km. The undoubted advantage of the Chinese jeep is that Great Wall spare parts are cheap, their cost cannot even be compared with the prices of Mercedes or BMW.

The steering rack fails infrequently, which cannot be said about the power steering. But if the pump hummed, it is not necessary to change the entire power steering, it is enough to repair the assembly by replacing the bearing.

Body parts and paintwork

The paintwork of the crossover is the same high quality, paint chips appear on the body quickly enough. Primarily corrosion affected rear wheel arches, and so that the body does not rust, anti-corrosion treatment should be carried out.

What are the reviews about Great Wall Hover

Car owners speak well of a Chinese car, more often negative opinions can be heard from drivers who have never driven a Chinese SUV.

Of the positive aspects, the owners of the cars note:

Reliability, the car mostly breaks down on trifles;

Good permeability;

Good design;

Manageability at a decent level;

Spacious salon;

Roomy trunk.

But about hover positive reviews not all, there are some shortcomings in the car:

Low beam lamps are not very bright;

Weak sound insulation;

Over time, “saffron milk caps” appear on the body;

The car is not very dynamic

Especially with a 2.0 liter gasoline engine.

You can buy Great Wall inexpensively, in any case, the "Chinese" is cheaper than many analogues. Almost all Great Wall Hover owners are happy with their cars, big trouble crossovers are not delivered to car owners.

The Chinese have to develop the theme of modern diesel engines with clean slate. And if so, on its most successful export model SUV, they decided to install the latest engine. And his own, and not to release under license! It is clear that I had to buy patents for some nodes. Among them, the Common Rail fuel injection system (pressure - 1800 bar) - from Delphi, Fuel Stratified Injection technology and turbocharger - from BorgWorner. Outlet: from 2.0 l displacement 150 hp and 310 Nm of torque. But they didn’t invent the “automatic” - they bought it from Hyundai Mobis. And not anyhow, but an adaptive 5-speed. In general, with the world on a string, but enough for a shirt. And not the worst. With the imposing H5 chassis, a leisurely and high-torque diesel engine is combined quite organically.

playing coach

Hover H3 (pictured below) - the predecessor of the H5, does not leave the "counter". Last year, it did not change outwardly, but it was modernized: the engine is now only 2.0 l (122 hp) gasoline, still a 5-speed manual gearbox and a transfer case with a reduction series. There is no diesel or automatic option. The salon has become identical with the H5, but the price range is lower - 669,000-714,000 rubles.

Outcome

Editor:

I had to ride on all modifications of Hover since the very first one. Progress is obvious. This is not to say that the H5 TD AT has become a masterpiece of highway handling, but it already looks like a modern multi-purpose SUV. With the acquisition of the “automatic”, he lost the lowering range of the transmission, but his outstanding cross-country ability was practically not affected. The diesel engine is very traction, and the torque converter does not allow it to stall at low speeds. Among the shortcomings are the unhurried response of the engine to the gas pedal and a huge turbo lag. However, you can get used to both.

Too bad there are only two airbags. no side ones. hover H6 already put side ones. and navigation in multimedia only on hover H6 began to be installed in my opinion. multimedia is also inconvenient in that when changing flash drives, you need to turn off the ignition. otherwise does not read. Writes that the format is not reproducible. The leather on the chairs is very soft. rubs quickly. you need to immediately take care of this and put on covers. by the way on internal handles rear doors have inserts under the skin. it is leatherette, and so thin that nails can damage it. We have already damaged, and our friends. just like fingernail cuts. and this is not from careless treatment, otherwise acquaintances would not have it either. on plastic thresholds, the varnish is quickly scratched with your feet when you sit in the salon. it is better to immediately stick a transparent film, which is glued with a hairdryer. had to be redone. welded reinforcement under them. otherwise they are decorative. it's even scary to stand on them. and when off-road, they will not protect plastic cornices. plastic in the cabin also needs to be handled with care. weak, slightly scratched. the trunk shelf, which is made with a tape measure, is attached to the hooks. which are fixed only to the plastic trim panel of the rear side pillar, and from one jacket laid on the shelf, these trim panels are already moving, they want to come off. these hooks need to be attached through this plastic panel to a body part, i.e. to the rear side pillar. one more detail spoils appearance auto. those are the big gaps between the hood and fenders. it seems that something does not match, does not converge. there is one more unpleasant moment. but this, I noticed only on our body. I have not seen others, at least. the seam of the doorway of the rear tailgate is not neatly welded. in the lower left corner of the doorway, body parts are poorly fitted when welding. but of course it is not visible from the outside. only when open backdoor trunk. There is still a design flaw. when driving in very dusty conditions, immediately after a trip, remove the cabin filter and at least blow it through. Otherwise, the heater control relay will burn out. it stands in air flow created by this fan, and when clogged cabin filter this flow is not enough. This leads to overheating and failure of the heater regulator relay. and it costs about 2600 rubles. the suspension design also does not allow putting the car on air suspension without serious modification. the back is not difficult to insert the cylinders into the springs, or instead of the springs, but to make the front on the pneuma, you need to make a completely different lower arm. otherwise there is nothing to fit.
