Chiron diesel engine. SsangYong Kyron engine

Chiron diesel engine. SsangYong Kyron engine

Domestically assembled cars (since November 2006 in Naberezhnye Chelny, since December 2009 in Vladivostok) are somewhat different from Korean ones. In particular, we have a continuous rear axle with four trailing arms and Panhard rod (design, as on the Zhiguli). Cars from Korea have an independent, multi-link rear suspension, and there are also rear-wheel drive 2WD modifications with this. There are also differences in motors and configurations, but this is not the main thing.

In the course of evolution, the plant is constantly struggling with the birth defects of the model, small and not so. There were a lot of complaints from the owners, so the engineers have something to work on. Albeit not as quickly as we wanted, but by 2010, SanYong had outlived almost all the characteristic defects. If you buy a used copy, the newer one is better.

MOTORS

The biggest problem was the diesel engine. The most common failure is loss of power. As it turned out, the vacuum turbocharger control modulator, which changes the angle of attack of the blades, was to blame. He stood in an unfortunate place, under the collector, which is why he quickly became clogged with dust and could no longer provide an operational change in rarefaction in transient conditions. We solved the problem simply: we installed the unit next to the brake reservoir, where it was cleaner, and there were no problems. Since the defect was massive, the dislocation of the modulator was changed on all machines whose owners contacted the service.

Of course, under warranty. For this, longer vacuum hoses and an adapter harness were used - these parts are supplied as spare parts. They say that there are no more cars with the previous location of the device, however, pay attention to the mentioned feature when buying a used car.

The turbine itself (by Garrett) is rarely a concern. There are no special complaints about the common rail fuel equipment manufactured by the Delphi company either. Of course, if you don’t run into summer diesel fuel in winter: not a single high-pressure fuel pump has yet been taught to suck paraffin clots out of a clogged filter. The heating control of the crankcase gas recirculation hose is beautifully invented - using a bimetallic plate.

It is necessary to monitor the level and condition of liquids on any machine, but especially here.

It happened that the sealing rings of the heat exchanger began to poison and the oil mixed with antifreeze. Driving on emulsion is a sentence for the engine. It happened that the main radiator was leaking along the rolling of the tanks. The reason is corrosion due to exposure to chemicals. It has been noticed that in regions where roads are not watered too generously, nothing like this happens with radiators. The cooling fan is driven from the pump pulley through the viscous coupling - simply and reliably, no relays or electric motors for you.

A two-row chain operates in the timing drive - one less worry. The metal on the chain was not spared, so it practically does not lengthen over time. The oil pump is driven by a separate circuit, this drive is also quite reliable. The vacuum pump sits directly on the intake camshaft, on splines, and is lubricated by a common oil line: no extra parts - no problems.

Gasoline in-line "fours" do not have obvious birth defects, so the units were adjusted only in detail: they changed the firmware of the control unit, slightly modified the starter and generator. It is important to change the oil on time, monitor the antifreeze (radiator corrosion is also relevant here) and not delay the replacement of candles. To the increased content of resins in gasoline, engines are no more and no less critical than competitors' engines - dealers recommend flushing nozzles without dismantling every 45-60 thousand km. The timing here is also driven by a solid two-row chain. If you notice unstable idling, flush the throttle assembly.

A 3.2-liter gasoline in-line "six" is a rarity in our market, and therefore there are few statistics. This refers to Korean statistics, not German ones (like all the listed engines, this one was also taken from Mercedes). It is only known that the unit is inclined to devour oil - watch the level!

TRANSMISSION

The clutch resource is on average 130-140 thousand km. When replacing on a diesel car, pay attention to the condition of the dual-mass flywheel: sometimes it also asks for recycling. On the gasoline version, the flywheel is in the form of an ordinary pancake, there are no problems with it. The release bearing is integral with the working cylinder. Typically, such designs are not famous for reliability, but our heroes rarely fail.

Regardless of the type of box, it is necessary to remember an important nuance: the manufacturer recommends using only SanYong branded oil! It is unlikely that he produces it himself, but where he takes it is unknown. So you have to pay extra for the label. 6-speed automatics are especially critical to the quality of the oil. Do not go broke on a replacement every 60 thousand km. But it’s bad that there is no dipstick, for an everyday level check you will have to lie under the car and unscrew the control plug in the crankcase (it’s also a filler one).

For cars with automatic transmission, new control unit firmware is regularly released, allowing the unit to shift gears more smoothly and comfortably. We advise you to update the program regularly. From experience, the life of the machine is only extended, as shock loads are reduced.

In the part-time transfer case, not only the oil (also original) requires attention, but also the connectors of the mode control motors. Often, the contacts rot, preventing the front axle from being connected. Recently, the plant has introduced a plastic protective cover, which is supposed to cover the connectors from direct contact with dirt and moisture, but for some reason they do not put it on all machines.

There is no center differential in the transmission, the front axle is connected rigidly, and this should not be forgotten. If you connect the front end on the pavement, you can easily overheat the axle gearboxes - then replacing the gears will cost a pretty penny.

The front end drive shaft couplings are interestingly made: they are connected without vacuum, and disconnected when vacuum is applied. This allows you to stay off-road with all-wheel drive in the event of a vacuum pump failure. In general, the system is reliable.

STEERING GEAR

Steering tips serve 60–70 thousand km, replacement is possible separately from the rods. Original rods do not exist in nature: when worn, they are changed in assembly with the steering gear. Many manufacturers are so reinsured, so as not to tempt the craftsmen to climb into the critical connections of the rods with the rail. Fortunately, they serve far beyond 150 thousand km.

ELECTRIC

The car has an extensive CAN bus that interconnects many electronic control units. The engine, automatic transmission, transfer case, “body computer” (responsible for comfort), stabilization and anti-lock braking system, radio, airbag unit communicate using digital codes ... In general, the “digit” is buggy and “clever” rarely. Even if a problem occurs, you can get to the nearest service thanks to bypass programs. It is a pity that the instrument panel is not tied to the multiplex - it is possible to twist the mileage (the odometer readings are not duplicated anywhere). This is sometimes used by sellers, although not always successfully: it happens that the ROM chip burns out. Don't skimp on dealer diagnostics!

MAINTENANCE COSTS ARE NOT LOW, BUT IT IS THE MOST AFFORDABLE OFF-ROAD IN ITS CLASS.

Quite often you can see Ssangyong Kyron cars on our roads. They look attractive and immediately attract attention. Many motorists when buying a car are increasingly giving preference to this particular brand. And those who have not purchased, but are only going to, are trying to find out as complete and comprehensive information as possible about Sang Yong Kyron cars: reviews of their owners, advantages and disadvantages, ease of maintenance and repair. And this is not surprising, because Korean cars have established themselves as comfortable and reliable, and most importantly, not prohibitively expensive. Thus, motorists have an alternative between cheap, but weak in all respects, the Chinese and expensive and high-quality Japanese (we will not touch on the European and American auto industry in this topic).

"Cairon". Start

"SangYong Kyron" is one of the very popular crossovers in the SsangYong lineup. His debut took place in the fall of 2005 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Deliveries of the model to the territory of the CIS began in the spring of 2006. The car brought to light an amazing hybrid of unusual design solutions and classic SUV design: the latest technical achievements, coupled with an unsurpassed level of convenience and safety of operation in all kinds of road conditions. The designers took as a basis the already tested and positively proven platform from Rexton. The car turned out to be just right: the five-door "Sang Yong Kyron" combines high off-road performance, moderate fuel consumption, as well as convenience, functionality and spaciousness of the cabin.

Appearance

Leading car designer Ken Greenlee emphasized and singled out this model among other SUVs, attracted the attention of the automotive community with the futuristic appearance of his offspring.

From the front, "Kyron" looks original and, in general, very modern. A streamlined radiator grille shining with chrome and non-standard stamping elements on the body draw attention to the car, highlighting it in city traffic, and impressive wheel arches give the car solidity and respectability.

Interesting not only from the outside

The interior of the car is quite a match for the exterior. The salon, executed in the same style, will pleasantly surprise you with a variety of interesting solutions. As the designers themselves assure, the interior of the car is made according to the principle of "calmness and comfort". And indeed, both the driver and passengers feel comfortable and comfortable in the cabin. That is why the center console and dashboard are made in an unusual shape, and the interior is ergonomic and provides the most comfortable conditions for the driver and passengers to sit. Interior trim in the basic version is made of high-quality materials that are resistant to wear and dirt.

The heart is a fiery motor

Most often, the hood of the Ssangyong Kyron hides a two-liter turbocharged diesel power unit, which produces 141 hp. Its Cammon Rail power system is guaranteed to provide the lowest diesel fuel consumption not only in mixed, but also in urban traffic cycles. The manufacturer offers motorists a choice of cars with both automatic and manual transmissions. Despite the fact that Sang Yong Kyron exists in twenty (!) modifications, cars with a 4x2 formula and a 2.7-liter diesel engine are not common in the CIS countries.

In addition to diesels, the range of engines is represented by a 2.3-liter gasoline engine with a capacity of 150 hp, which meets the highest standards. The Sang Yong Chiron engine, a classic in-line four made under license from Mercedes-Benz, guarantees the well-known reliability of the car, less exposure to vibration and longer engine life than V-shaped counterparts.

Transmission

As you already understood, the SangYong Kyron engine is distinguished by its manufacturability and reliability. To match him and the checkpoint. The motors are equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission (also licensed by Mercedes Benz), or a 6-band T-tronic automatic transmission with the option of shifting gears in manual mode.

Additional options

Even the machine of basic completeness or, as they say, "in stock", has a wide range of all kinds of options and bells and whistles. The simplest modification is equipped with anti-lock brakes (ABS), power windows, electrically adjustable mirrors. In addition, it will be equipped with a climate control system and 2 airbags.

And if you fork out for the richest equipment, then to all of the above is added a genuine leather interior, a rain sensor, an automatic light control system, an electronic stability control system and front seats with electric adjustment.

Among other things, "SangYong Kyron" can be additionally equipped with the Active Rollover Protection system, which helps prevent the vehicle from rolling over, as well as the Hill Descent Control system for descending from large slopes. Since this is still a crossover, and not a super all-terrain vehicle, there are design limitations on cross-country ability, namely low ground clearance (the manufacturer claims 210 mm under the front axle and 199 mm at the rear), and there is also no engine and gearbox protection.

"Kyron Sang Yong": specifications

The main distinguishing feature of this car from other similar crossovers from other manufacturers is its frame layout. That is, the load from all components and assemblies is carried not by a flimsy stamped body, but by a full-fledged steel backbone, which will not be broken by the difficult situations of our roads, often similar to combat conditions. "Sang Yong Kyron": reviews of the owners

According to the reviews of car owners, it is quite difficult to judge the quality and driving characteristics of the car, especially if the reviews are studied on the Internet. This misfortune did not bypass Chiron Sang Yong, the technical characteristics of which, in principle, correspond to the price and quality of this class of cars. However, not all buyers, and even more so Internet users, understand the difference between diesel and gasoline engines (except that some "eat" diesel fuel, while others - gasoline).

For drivers who switched to a Sang Yong Kyron diesel from a gasoline car of the same displacement, acceleration with a sharp indentation of the gas pedal will seem weak, but the “tractor” traction at low revs when driving off-road will surprise. Drivers who have changed from a diesel engine to a gasoline one will be pleasantly surprised by the dynamics of acceleration on straight sections of the track.

In general, most often the owners' complaints about Sang Yong Kyron diesel cars, whose characteristics are in no way inferior to gasoline ones, come down to problems with the fuel system. Tellingly, those who pay little attention to what exactly is poured into the fuel tank complain.

In addition, quite often they speak badly about cars assembled in the Russian Federation, and not in Korea.

Someone complains about a weak suspension, forgetting that this crossover in most cases drives on roads (not always good, but, nevertheless, roads), and not on swamps, a tractor track that has become muddy in the autumn-spring thaw in the Central Black Earth Region or deep virgin snow.

Thus, in conclusion, we can say that Chiron has its own niche for use, and if you do not demand the impossible from it, then it has the right to a place in your garage.

    INTRODUCTION

Kyron, one of the most popular SUVs in the Ssang Yong lineup, debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show in autumn 2005. The SUV was developed in 30 months and was planned as a successor to the Musso. Since the end of the same year, the production of the model began in Naberezhnye Chelny by Severstal-Avto.
The car is a combination of non-standard design solutions, the latest technical achievements, comfort and safety. Ssang Yong Rexton served as a platform for Kyron, so the car combines excellent cross-country ability, efficiency, spacious and comfortable interior.

Ken Greenlee, one of the designers who painted the Aston Martin Vantage, worked on the design of the car, so the appearance of the car compares favorably with other SUVs and attracts the eye with futurism. A streamlined chrome grille and unusual body embossing make Kyron stand out in city traffic, while wide wheel arches inspire a sense of reliability and strength.

Salon is consistent with the appearance of the car. The interior design was created on the principle of "comfort and tranquility" - everything is done to make the driver feel comfortable: all controls and instruments are exactly where they should be, and the center console and instrument panel, made in a very unusual form, allow you to pay more time directly on the road, rather than looking for certain levers and buttons.

The finishing material is of high quality, the seats provide optimal seating geometry and comfort for the driver and passengers. In addition, there are power and heated seats, active headrests and a ten-speaker audio system.
The already large trunk with a flat floor and a comfortable curtain increases significantly if you fold the rear seat back (this can be done in parts).

Under the hood of Kyron there are two turbodiesels with a common rail power system, manufactured under license from Mercedes Benz, with a working volume of 2 and 2.7 liters and a power of 141 and 165 hp, respectively, which guarantees minimal fuel consumption both in urban and in mixed cycle. Both engines can be equipped with both manual and automatic transmissions.

In 2007, the model was restyled. The appearance of the updated Kyron can be described as calmer and less radical. So, the “heraldic shields” of the lanterns disappeared from the rear of the body, and large signal lights elongated horizontally came in their place. The shape of the fog lights on the front bumper has changed, and the direction indicator in the headlight unit has lost its orange diffuser.

The front bumper received a completely different shape, with a single air intake in the middle and a new false radiator grille built into the top, even more reminiscent of the Mercedes S-class. Gone are the long horizontal slits.
The shape of the hood and tailgate glass has changed slightly, the roof rails have become black, and not silver as before.
However, the main innovation was the appearance of petrol four-cylinder engines of 2.3 and 3.2 liters, also produced by Ssang Yong under license from MercedesBenz. Like diesel power units, they can also be equipped with both a five-speed manual and automatic transmissions.
Plug-in front-wheel drive, a spar frame and an independent torsion bar double wishbone suspension are far from the last advantages of Kyron.
Even in the basic configuration, Kyron boasts the presence of ABS, two airbags, climate control, electric and heated exterior mirrors. In more expensive trim levels, you can also get a leather interior, a rain sensor, an automatic light control system, and a course stability system.
On request, the Kyron can be equipped with the Active Rollover Protection system, which helps to avoid a rollover of the car, as well as Hill Descent Control.
Kyron's passive safety systems are formed by adjustable head restraints, seat belts and airbags, energy-absorbing bumpers, additional side impact protection in the doors, and design solutions that allow the shock energy to be diverted in safe directions, while preserving cab living space as much as possible.
Ssang Yong Kyron is one of the brightest representatives of the mid-size SUV segment and is an ideal choice for modern residents of the metropolis, because in one car the dynamics and handling of a passenger sedan, the swift design of a sports car, a comfortable interior with excellent ergonomics and all the advantages of an SUV are combined.
This manual provides instructions for the operation and repair of all modifications of the Ssang Yong Kyron, produced since 2005 and since 2007.

SPECIAL TOOLS

DIESEL ENGINES

The SsangYong Kyron debuted in mid-2005. Work on the Korean SUV started in 2002, when the company was still working with Daimler-Benz. However, at the end of 2004, Sanyeng became part of the Chinese corporation SAIC. Expansion to Europe began in 2006.

Obvious advantages of the model: acceptable basic equipment, a fairly robust design and a skillful combination of the practicality of a classic SUV with the functionality of an SUV.

And yet, structurally, Kyron is closer to SUVs. The body is fixed on a ladder frame, and the all-wheel drive system has a step-down row. At that time, only Suzuki Grand Vitara offered something similar.

The design of the model was taken care of by Ken Greenlee, who previously worked for the Australian MG. It turned out not bad, except for the taillights in the form of a coat of arms. They got rid of unattractive elements in mid-2007 - during restyling. The front bumper and fog lights have been redesigned. The facelift certainly did the trick.

Since 2006, Sangeng Kyron has been assembled for the Russian market in Naberezhnye Chelny at the Sollers plant. At the end of 2009, the assembly site was moved to Vladivostok - Sollers-Far East. Unfortunately, the reliability of the Far Eastern copies has decreased significantly.

Engines

The first Kyrons received a 5-cylinder 2.7 XDi turbodiesel with a capacity of 163-176 hp. A little later, versions appeared with a 4-cylinder 2.0 XDi turbodiesel with a return of 136-145 hp. A 150-horsepower aspirated petrol with a volume of 2.3 liters was offered after restyling and only in Russia. It became an alternative to the only 2-liter diesel engine available to us.

All Sang Yong power units are modernized analogues of Mercedes. The only engine that has retained maximum closeness to the original is a 2.3 liter gasoline engine, known from cars with a star as M111.970. All engines have a timing chain type drive.

Diesel units have a characteristic Mercedes drawback - sticking of fuel injectors and glow plugs, often the most distant ones. If you try to unscrew them, they can break off. To extract it, you will have to remove the cylinder head and drill out the remains. To avoid trouble in the future, it is recommended to remove the injectors and glow plugs every 40,000 km and lubricate the seats.

Fuel injectors (from 22,000 rubles) are sensitive to fuel quality. Previously, they served more than 200,000 km. In younger copies, nozzles often have to be changed after 100-150 thousand km. At the same time, glow plugs may also fail (1,000 rubles).

After 50,000 km, interruptions in the operation of the diesel engine are possible due to a clogged EGR valve. Turbo failures occur due to failure of the turbine vacuum modulator. The filter is clogged and should be cleaned or replaced. The turbocharger, as a rule, serves more than 200,000 km. The cost of a new turbine is from 35,000 rubles, a replacement cartridge is from 12,000 rubles.

In older units, after 200-250 thousand km, the likelihood of failure of the timing chain hydraulic tensioner increases. There is an extraneous sound. In freshly assembled cars, the tensioner can fail at a range of 30-100 thousand km.

The gasoline engine is perhaps the most reliable. True, the pump often gives up after 20-30 thousand km. A leak, noise, or pulley play is detected. In the case of other Kyron engines, the pump life exceeds 100,000 km.

After 40-60 thousand km, a noisy roller or a drive belt tensioner damper may require replacement. Another sore of gasoline engines is the destruction of the exhaust system bracket.

In winter, there is an occasional hang-up of revolutions. The disease is caused by the appearance of condensate in the intake system and freezing of the throttle assembly. Owners of old Mercedes are well familiar with this feature.

In rare cases, after 100-150 thousand km, a breakdown of the head gasket occurs. Upon opening, a casting defect is found.

Transmission

The first Chirons were aggregated exclusively with 5-speed manual and automatic. Petrol versions were equipped with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed automatic transmission. In July 2008, all automatic transmissions gave way to a 6-speed automatic. The 5-speed automatic was left only for the 2.7 XDi.

The manual gearbox is quite durable, which cannot be said about the clutch system. If the disk itself is guaranteed to last more than 100-150 thousand km, then the hydraulic release bearing will not last even 100,000 km. Its cost is about 5,000 rubles, and a complete clutch kit is more than 16,000 km.

The 5-speed automatic transmission is perhaps the most reliable of all automatic transmissions. The box was widely used in Mercedes cars and has the nomenclature designation 722.6. Its resource before the first repair is more than 200-250 thousand km. Among the common faults are: oil leakage through the connector, failure of the electrical board and wear of the torque converter.

The 4-speed automatic was developed by the Australian company BTR specifically for the SsangYong back in 1989. He is able to travel more than 150-200 thousand km. Next, you have to change the torque converter and sort out the valve body.

The 6-band machine turned out to be the most vulnerable. It is a modern modification of the 4-speed BTR. Unfortunately, the box plagues with malfunctions after the first 30-60 thousand km. Most often, the automatic machine of more loaded diesel versions suffers. However, there are examples of carefree operation over 200,000 km. And yet, troubles are more common. The main disadvantage is strong shocks during switching. In addition, the box is not tolerant of oil overheating, which negatively affects the longevity of the electrics. Some owners even had to deal with the destruction of the planetary gear bearing. In the case of repairs, you will have to spend about 100,000 rubles.

The only thing that can extend the life of any automatic transmission is regular oil changes. This procedure should be resorted to every 40-60 thousand km.

All-wheel drive system

SsangYong Kyron could be both all-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive. The latter option was not officially delivered to Russia.

There are two all-wheel drive systems. First, AWD - with automatic torque distribution, but without a reduction series. Only used in conjunction with the 2.7 XDI and therefore not officially offered.

The second, Par Time, is a rigidly connected front axle with a reduction gear. This scheme was the only one possible on the Russian Chirons.

Hubs - couplings are responsible for connecting the wheels. The control is carried out by a vacuum system. Connectivity issues can occur due to leaks in the system. In addition, after 80-100 thousand km, the hubs themselves fail. Moisture gets into the system and the clutch rusts.

Often, when using all-wheel drive on difficult off-road conditions, the front axle mounting bracket is destroyed. If there is an automatic machine on board, the defect along the way leads to damage to the transmission fluid cooling tubes. The attachment point can be modified by redistributing the load. After prevention, there are no problems.

The transmission of the Korean SUV is quite gentle. With frequent off-road trips, the chain in the transfer case is stretched. The razdatka itself can be capricious due to a broken wiring or corrosion of the contacts of the executive motor connector. Does not like loads and front axle differential.

After 50,000 km, transmission seals may leak. The front left drive oil seal may lose tightness after the first 10,000 km.

Transmission elements require regular maintenance. In addition to the traditional replacement of fluids, it is necessary to inject the propeller shaft crosses.

Chassis

The front axle has an independent double wishbone suspension, and the rear axle has a solid axle. Versions with permanent all-wheel drive AWD at the rear have a multi-link suspension.

The ball bearings of the front axle sometimes give up after 30-60 thousand km. Later, reinforced ball joints were produced, the resource of which increased to 100,000 km. The silent blocks of the front lower arms also fail relatively quickly - at the lower attachment points of the stabilizer struts (after 40-80 thousand km).

Shock absorbers serve more than 100-150 thousand km, but the springs can sag after 20-30 thousand km.

The upper steering rack seal can leak after 50-80 thousand km, and the steering rack often starts knocking after 100,000 km. The cost of a new rail is from 18,000 rubles. After 20-70 thousand km, play is sometimes found in the lower steering shaft. Packing lubricant helps for a while. The shaft has to be changed.

Over time, the parking brake cables turn sour.

Body

Previous Sang Yong models suffered from excessive corrosion. Kyron, as a rule, does not give such strong reasons for concern. With age, red spots can be found only on the edges of the doors and wings. Surface corrosion is observed on the frame, suspension and transmission elements. Exhaust system parts rust more intensively.

After 30-50 thousand km, the attachment points of the body to the frame can collapse - most often the front ones. In addition, sometimes the front part of the body cracks. The problem is typical for cars that regularly go off-road. The destroyed elements are boiled.

Electrician

Older copies practically do not suffer from diseases of electronics and control systems. The owners of Russian Kyrons, on the contrary, note the short service life of outdoor lighting lamps. Durability and the clock on the front panel do not differ, which sometimes have to be changed several times.

With age, the contacts of the backlight of the state number rot. In addition, the overrunning clutch of the generator may make noise and fail - from 2,000 rubles.

Conclusion

SsangYong Kyron is a versatile and relatively affordable car that can be purchased for 400,000 rubles. However, do not count on carefree operation. And off-road trips significantly reduce the life of the transmission.

The Korean auto industry has always been associated with inexpensive small cars. However, in this country they also produce good crossovers. So, one of them is Ssangyong Kyron. This is a mid-size frame SUV, mass-produced from 2005 to 2015. In addition to Korea, these cars are assembled in Russia, Ukraine, and also in Kazakhstan. What is a diesel Sanyeng Kyron? Reviews, car features and specifications - further in our article.

Design

The appearance of the car is different from Japanese and European SUVs. So, in front of the car received an oval grille and a relief bumper with round fog lights on the sides. The hood exactly follows the lines of the head optics. Side mirrors are painted in body color and in some trim levels are equipped with turn signals. On the roof - the usual roof rails.

What do the owners say about the quality of the metal and paintwork? According to reviews, Ssangyong Kyron is well protected from corrosion. Chipped paintwork is a rarity for a Korean SUV. But even if there is deep damage, rust does not form on bare metal.

Dimensions, ground clearance

The car belongs to the SUV class and has the following dimensions. The length of the body is 4.66 meters, width - 1.88, height - 1.75 meters. The wheelbase is 2740 mm. At the same time, the ground clearance is impressive - about twenty centimeters. The car is distinguished by short overhangs and a not too long base, and therefore feels great off-road, reviews say. But we will talk about the cross-country ability of this SUV a little later, but for now let's move to the salon.

car interior

The interior of the Korean SUV looks simple, but it does not cause negative emotions. A big plus is the availability of space. It grabs both front and rear. It can really accommodate up to five people. Seat adjustment is not only in the front. The rear sofa can also be customized "for yourself." The seats themselves are soft and comfortable - reviews say.

The center console is slightly tilted towards the driver. Here is a simple radio, a climate control unit, a pair of air vents and a rack with additional control buttons. All elements are placed unusually, but you can get used to it. The steering wheel is four-spoke, leather-wrapped. There is a standard set of buttons. The steering wheel has a comfortable grip and can be tilted.

Also, reviews note a good level of crossover equipment. So, the diesel Sanyeng-Kyron already has climate control, power windows and mirrors, good acoustics and heated front seats as standard.

The trunk is designed for 625 liters of luggage. Under the floor there are boxes for tools. Also in the trunk there is a protective grid and a 12-volt electrical outlet. The seat backs fold down. As a result, a cargo area with a volume of more than two thousand liters is formed.

Specifications

Two diesel engines are offered for this vehicle. Both are equipped with a turbine and feature direct fuel injection. So, the base engine with a volume of two liters develops 140 horsepower. Diesel Sanyeng-Kyron for 2 liters develops 310 Nm of torque. In more expensive trim levels, a 2.7-liter engine is available. It develops 165 power forces. Torque - 50 Nm more than the previous one.

According to reviews, the Sanyeng Kyron diesel engine is quite economical. So, on the highway, the car spends no more than seven liters on a 165-horsepower engine (the optimal speed limit is from 100 to 110 kilometers per hour). In the city, the car consumes from 9 to 10 liters of fuel.

About engine reliability

Both engines were manufactured under license from Mercedes-Benz. In general, malfunctions in the Sanyeng-Kyron diesel engine rarely occur. But there are also childhood diseases. So, it is worth noting the timing mechanism. Sanyeng Kyron (diesel) requires replacement of the hydraulic chain tensioner every 60 thousand kilometers. It is also difficult to start a diesel engine in cold weather. Without additional heating at -25 degrees, it is impossible to start the diesel Sanyeng Kyron. In addition, the car has a weak battery. A 90 Ah battery is installed here from the factory. Regular glow plugs can stick, because of which they have to be literally torn out of the block.

As for the turbine, its resource is more than 150 thousand kilometers. The turbine is reliable, but it does not like long and prolonged loads.

Transmission

As for the transmission, a five-speed manual or a five-speed automatic transmission is provided for the Korean SUV. The diesel Sanyeng-Kyron can go with both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive using the Part Time system (there is no center differential).

Owners are faced with the failure of the electronic control unit of the automatic and transfer case. The cost of the issue is 18 and 12 thousand rubles, respectively. Owners also complain about the costly oil change for automatic transmissions. Over time, there is an imbalance of the propeller shaft. This can jam the outboard bearing. The front hubs also fail to work. The owners are advised to install more reliable ones from the Musso company. A manual transmission is more reliable than an automatic, but also needs maintenance. The oil in it changes at least once every 100 thousand kilometers. You also need to monitor the condition of the seals and change them in time.

Chassis

The car has an independent front suspension. Behind - dependent, spring. Brake system - disk. The brakes on the front wheels are ventilated.

Test Drive

How does the diesel Sanyeng-Kyron behave on the go? As noted by the reviews, the characteristics of the suspension are not intended for our roads. When hitting a hole, there is a noticeable push and knock of the suspension. But I must say that the diesel engine has good acceleration dynamics. The car briskly picks up speed from a traffic light and slows down smoothly, without jerking. Management is not bad, and there is no difference between rear and all-wheel drive (except for cross-country characteristics). Rulitsya it is the same on any drive. But what this car lacks is rear parking sensors. It's not even available as an option. And the rear window is very small, and sometimes you have to park at random.

Out of town, the car behaves confidently. It enters turns without rolls and easily accelerates to a maximum speed of 167 kilometers per hour. However, the optimal speed is up to 110. At higher speeds, the car has to be constantly controlled - it is slightly blown off the road. Also at speed there is noise from the side mirrors and a whistle in the bottom area.

Sanyeng Kyron off-road

According to reviews, off-road, this car behaves great. The car confidently overcomes steep sandy slopes and hills. Compared to competitors, Sanyeng-Kyron shows excellent results. Short overhangs and high ground clearance allow the car to get where the rest will sit on the "belly". In addition, the standard machine is equipped with wide 255 tires with 18-inch wheels. The all-wheel drive version deserves special attention. Sanyeng-Kyron is really capable of kneading mud and getting out of any trap.

Please note that, according to the instruction manual, driving a car on dry asphalt with a front-wheel drive connected may result in a transmission malfunction. So, the transfer box fails. And the cost of its repair can reach up to 60 thousand rubles. Therefore, all-wheel drive should only be used when absolutely necessary.

Conclusion

So, we found out what the Korean Sanyeng Kyron SUV is. In general, this is a good universal car. This car is not too large, it can be operated around the city, and on weekends you can safely go on it with the whole family to nature. Diesel Sanyeng Kyron is very economical. But if you want to spend less money on maintenance, you should take the version with five-speed mechanics.
