Test drive Suzuki SX4. Four wheel drive or front? All-wheel drive misunderstanding Protection under the rear bumper is more of a decoration than a power element

Suzuki SX4 has a simple, understandable fate of an urban crossover. And if you do not use it as a tractor, there will be no problems ... Compact Suzuki crossover The SX4, the brainchild of Suzuki engineering and Fiat design, was unveiled at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show and went straight into series production.

Cars assembled at a plant in Hungary are now being delivered to Russia, which has a positive effect on the price of a car, and, oddly enough, on the price of spare parts. The range of engine modifications presented in Russia was limited, alas, to a gasoline 1.6-liter in-line 4-cylinder unit with a capacity of 112 hp. with., corresponding to the Euro-4 eco-standard.

For the all-wheel drive version, the manufacturer declares acceleration to hundreds in 13 seconds and top speed 170 km / h with an average fuel consumption in the urban cycle of 9.9 liters per hundred and on the highway - 6.5 liters. The engine proved to be reliable, moderately dynamic and economical. With a run of 15-20 thousand km in urban traffic jams, the only noticeable expense is the replacement of candles, which is necessary for correction uneven work on idling. A set of candles will cost 900 rubles, work on replacing them - within 1000 rubles. Sometimes at the service station they offer to put iridium spark plugs(5500 rub.) extended term service, but in practice due to Low quality gasoline, they have to be changed almost as often as regular candles, V best case every 20-25 thousand km.

The number of cars of this brand with a mileage of more than 100 thousand km is statistically insignificant, but it should be noted that when passing 100,000 maintenance, the masters recommend replacing the fuel pump due to partial clogging of the protective mesh in order to prevent a decrease in pressure in fuel system and, as a result, interruptions in the operation of the engine. The cost of the pump is about 14,000 rubles. and work - 2500 rubles. Nevertheless, independent appeals of owners to service stations with this problem are extremely rare.

Conflict modern standards with the shamelessness of domestic refiners and carriers creates an additional expense item: in SX4, a weak point can be called catalytic system. After 60 thousand km of run, the replacement of the catalyst and the lambda probe was noted. The cost of a catalyst is 27,000 rubles, a lambda probe - from 4,500 rubles. The main reason for such costs is the notorious low-quality fuel.

No fairy tales. The rear seats in the SX4 are just in case. There is not enough space there - a natural retribution for compactness

For the all-wheel drive version, both a five-speed manual and a four-speed “automatic” are available. There are no complaints about the work of the latter, which cannot be said about mechanical transmission: the clutch "arrives" after 5-7 thousand kilometers. In fairness, it should be noted that this only happens to owners who regularly operate the SX4 off-road, which this car, of course, is not ready for. The cost of the clutch kit is 15,000 rubles. plus about 10,000 rubles. for work, including the removal of the gimbal.

The all-wheel drive system on the SX4 4WD is controlled by an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch. The transmission has three modes of operation, and they are controlled by a button on the instrument panel: front-wheel drive (2WD), automatically connected all-wheel drive (4WD Auto) and forced all-wheel drive (4WD Lock). The clutch works flawlessly.

The victorious greyness.
1. Transmission mode control button - to the right of the handbrake
2. The ability to disable ESP off-road is not superfluous at all
3. The only thing that enlivens the interior is the instrument panel

The front suspension of the SX4 is an independent McPherson type, the rear is a torsion bar semi-independent. Handling is good, ride is also somewhat present, but rear passengers feel rather uncomfortable on rough roads. The suspension has proved to be reliable, one of the most common alarming symptoms is the knock of the stabilizer bushings, which appears after 20-30 thousand km, and even then it is detected during routine suspension diagnostics by service station masters. The price of resolving the issue is within 4000 rubles. On early models there were isolated cases of leakage suspension struts, but as a result of the warranty action, the problems were settled. Also, under the warranty campaign, the tapping steering rack was replaced on cars manufactured in 2006 and 2007.

front brake pads serve no more than 15 thousand km, front brake discs- about 30-40 thousand km.

instead of a heart. There is only one motor - with a working volume of 1.6 liters. His weakness- spark plug

A little, but neat. The trunk is not huge, but comfortable - and the loading height is small, and wheel arches don't speak

Externally, the SX4 is recognizable, neat dimensions and compactness give hope for minimizing parking problems and cross-country ability. Optics "seeing", gives some originality and expressiveness. Plastic glass headlights are quite resistant to temperature extremes and do not crack, but with careless washing they are easily scratched. The salon is quite spacious - but only for the driver and front passenger. Even a child in a child seat will not feel comfortable behind a tall pilot. What to do, you have to pay for compactness. The same applies to the modest dimensions of the trunk, however, it also has a plus - a small loading height.

The structural feature of the windshield, the presence of a front side window and a wide windshield frame are an amateur story. Extra space under the windshield allows you to put all sorts of necessities, but you will have to get used to the features of the review. The interior is not rich in finishes: plastic is cheap, easily scratched, but neat, nothing rattles or falls off. The fabric of the seats is resistant to wiping and tearing. IN basic configuration a good set of equipment is offered: decent music with a changer and good acoustics, airbags, a multifunction steering wheel, heated mirrors. Everything is pretty reliable, but there is a drop of tar here: in winter, in the process of clearing the ice crust, it is easy to damage the small outer plastic lining under the wipers, the cost of which is Japanese manufacturer is about 5000 rubles. a piece. Often, other plastic suffers: lining on the bumper and wheel arches.

In general, it can be said that the compact crossover from Suzuki is reliable, well controlled and even demonstrates good dynamics at low speeds. As for cross-country ability, despite the possibility forced inclusion all-wheel drive, it is better not to abuse the off-road capabilities of the Suzuki SX4. The manufacturer itself deciphers the model name as Season x 4, that is, it positions the crossover as an all-weather car, and not as an alternative to the UAZ.

Owner's opinion: Olga, Suzuki sx4 4wd, 2008, automatic transmission
The machine was bought new, in the cabin. While there were no additional costs, only MOT. In winter and in muddy conditions, there are no problems either. I quickly got used to the peculiarities of the review, and it turned out to be very convenient - all sorts of little things like a phone can be put to the left of you. The mileage is small (25,370 km), but mostly in winter and in traffic jams. In winter, I drive mostly in the "Auto" mode. Consumption is definitely less than 9 liters. This is my third car, before that there were used cars. The one who first sat in new car understands me. Noisy, simple, modest, but everything shines and everything works. The music is great. Didn't like it at first dashboard but quickly got used to it. The seat is high - the review allows you to change lanes in advance where you need to and the oncoming headlights do not blind - and moderately comfortable, you do not get tired even after many hours of traffic jams. The disadvantage is a small trunk. But the interior quickly warms up in winter and the windows warm up very quickly. For me, a big minus is that the car is a little blunt when overtaking. But it only disciplines. Parting with the car soon I do not plan, so everything suits.

Subcompact crossover Suzuki SX4, created jointly by Suzuki and FIAT Auto, debuted simultaneously with the twin brother FIAT Sedici. The urban version of the SX4 Urban Line with a 2WD front-wheel drive transmission is assembled at Suzuki's Japanese plant in Kosai.

Crossover Suzuki SX4 4WD Outdoor Line with increased body dimensions, mainly due to the powerful plastic body kit, roof rails, automatically connected all-wheel drive with a viscous coupling and a ground clearance increased to 200 mm are assembled at the Hungarian plant Magyar Suzuki Rt. in Escergom with Sedici. In the summer of 2011, the Hungarian version received a slightly upgraded body kit.

The design of the Suzuki SX4 Urban Line is typical of modern crossovers: reinforced load-bearing body, transversely mounted engine, McPherson front suspension on a subframe, either a semi-independent scheme with torsion bars for front-wheel drive versions, or an independent spring double wishbone suspension is used at the rear.

Six opinions about the crossover Suzuki SX4

Suzuki SX4
1.6 (112 hp) 4AT
price: from 759,000 rubles.

The SX4 crossover is perhaps one of Suzuki's most sought-after models on Russian market. A compact, economical, all-wheel drive and not very expensive car finds a lot of its admirers from year to year. But is this the only way the SX4 wins the hearts of the consumer? Let's check…

Introduced at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show, the Suzuki SX4 opened up a new direction in the crossover environment. However, the guards for the purity of the ranks of this tribe at first did not seek to classify the new car as a segment of SUVs. And the reasons for this were significant. Geometric parameters cross-country ability, if higher than that of an ordinary urban hatchback, then not much. All-wheel drive scheme, with torque take-off on rear axle through a viscous coupling, identical to that used in those days on cars. And the appearance of the machine did not in any way resemble the brutal exterior of SUVs. But the fact that connoisseurs of off-road units blamed the SX4 for a minus was considered a plus by many buyers, and the car quickly gained popularity. By the way, speaking about the history of its appearance, it would not be superfluous to recall that the Suzuki crossover was created together with by Fiat and it was the second party that was responsible for the appearance of the new project. The exterior of the Suzuki SX4 was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro's ItalDesign studio, and at the same time, its "twin" called the Fiat Sedici was released. True, unlike the Italian counterpart, Japanese, except for the main hatchback body for the American and some Eastern European markets (including Russia), it was also offered as a sedan. However, the SX4 in a three-volume body has never been equipped with an all-wheel drive transmission and therefore we will not consider it.

During its life Suzuki SX4 has undergone only two upgrades. In 2008, the usual viscous clutch in the all-wheel drive system was replaced by a more “smart” electronically controlled clutch, and in 2010, along with minor changes in the exterior, the car got a new interior, improved braking system and redesigned powertrains. In addition, it is worth noting that it was in this year that the all-wheel drive versions of the crossover began to be equipped with an automatic transmission. By the way, until recently, the car was produced both in Japan and in owned by the company Suzuki plant in Hungary and Russian buyer could buy a car made both in the Land of the Rising Sun and on the territory of the former socialist camp. Today, all cars supplied to our market are exclusively of Hungarian origin.

in three modes

So, what is the modern Suzuki SX4. A crossover with an overall length of just over 4 m and a maximum ground clearance of 190 mm. The only engine offered on our market is a 1.6-liter gasoline “four” located transversely in front. The main drive axle is the front, and on back torque is transmitted when one of the front wheels slips through an electronically controlled clutch.

Full system i-AWD has three modes of operation: 2WD (drive only the front wheels), 4WD Auto (the rear wheels are connected if necessary) and 4WD Lock (the center clutch is locked, the rear axle is supplied with up to 50% of torque). Otherwise, the design of the car is typical for most modern crossovers - independent front and rear suspension, rack and pinion steering and disc brakes on all wheels.

Stylish and strong

As we have already said, on the Russian market, the range of power units for the Suzuki SX4 is represented by a single 112 hp engine, which can be equipped with either a five-speed manual gearbox or a four-speed automatic. However, despite the lack of an alternative, the proposed engine for this model can be considered the golden mean. So, the SX4, equipped with a manual gearbox, is able to reach a maximum speed of 175 km / h (170 km / h for the version with a gun), and to reach 100 km / h it takes 11.5 s (13.1 with automatic transmission). The average fuel consumption in this case is 6.8 l / 100 km (with automatic transmission - 7.6).

No less attractive than the declared characteristics, the price tags for the car also look. The basic equipment of a car with an all-wheel drive transmission (GL package, manual gearbox, cost 709,000 rubles) already includes two airbags, air conditioning, ABS with EBD, electric heating of the front seats and exterior rear-view mirrors, front electric windows, folding in parts backseat and roof rails. Replacing the "mechanics" with an automatic gearbox will raise the cost of this version to 759,000 rubles.

Next level equipment (GLX equipment) starts at 779,000 rubles. for a car with "mechanics" and 839,000 rubles. with an automatic. Compared with basic option it adds alloy wheels, fog lights, keyless start system, leather steering wheel and gearshift tip, automatic climate control, rear power windows, 6 CD changer with MP3 player and chrome inserts in the cabin. Seriously in this case, the set of security systems is also replenished. So, there are side airbags for the driver and front passenger, inflatable curtains for passengers in the second row of seats and ESP.

Finally, the top equipment (GLX NAV), in addition to the previous list, receives an HMI multimedia center with a 5-inch touch screen, navigation system Bosch, MP3, WMA CD receiver with iPod, iPhone, USB Audio, SD-card and Bluetooth support. This equipment offered only for a car with automatic transmission, and its cost is 865,000 rubles.

In a budget format

No less attractive than the price tag, look at the Suzuki SX4 and approximate maintenance costs. The cost of basic maintenance, which the manufacturer prescribes every 15,000 km, averages about 10,000 rubles. Registration of a voluntary insurance policy (K ASKO) in the Moscow region will cost about 55,000 rubles, and for a policy compulsory insurance(OSAGO) the owner will pay 4,700 rubles annually. Approximately the same amount will cost the tax on the owner of this vehicle.

Manufacturer's warranty for all Suzuki SX4 cars sold in Russia through the network official dealers, is 3 years or 100,000 km (whichever comes first).

In conclusion, I would like to note that until recently, Suzuki SX4 had practically no competitors in our market. And even today, despite the appearance of a sufficient number of proposals in this size class, there are still no serious opponents, especially in this price segment. And as an approximate alternative, it is quite possible to consider such models as the Mitsubishi ASX, the image Nissan Juke or even the recently launched Renault Duster.

I am a neat girl

LENYA UNFASHIONABLE

Something for a long time I did not have to ride on small cars. Colleagues know my attitude to the "legends of urban off-road" and keep me away from them. But here, nevertheless, I had the opportunity to ride on the parquet floor. What can I say in essence: the machine caused me a split personality. On the one hand, I still remained a healthy brutal man with a calm but tough driving style. On the other hand, I was the driver of a small car, which really rebelled against me in everything. I put pressure on the gas and dissolve the car in a turn - it calmly passes it without acceleration and roll, mocking my ridiculous attempts to drive. And so in everything. But as soon as I calmed down and accepted the rules of the game imposed on me by the machine, a completely different movie went on. Quietly crawling in the stream - no one honks. I turn on the turn signal and do not try to rebuild - they slow down and let me through. Other road users, looking at my car, see a small neat girl and not an opponent. And what, so you can also ride, I even liked it.

Freedom for Japanese children

The semi-hatchback semi-crossover reminded me of a child who from childhood showed a craving for sports and asked his parents to give him to the section. And those to him only: "Teach lessons." What has grown has grown. The all-wheel drive transmission hints at the makings of, if not an athlete, then at least a physically developed boy, which can help out well both on a slippery primer and in snow-covered yards, where Suzuki will bypass a mono-drive hopelessly “marking time” on the spot. The machine runs quite briskly, but I would not refuse much more, since the chassis allows it. And the handling is just as good! But the interior space is moderate, the sound insulation is weak, and the unpretentiousness of the interior makes you cringe. Maybe he has a tempting price tag that pays for all the weaknesses in one fell swoop? But no, you will have to pay not so little for the baby. True, its competitors are few and the alternative is scarce. The Suzuki SX4 could have turned out to be an interesting, dynamic and even fashionable version, if its power unit were “meaner” and the interior more modern. Otherwise, I definitely won’t pay more than 700,000 for a compact, even if at least three times a new car. Moreover, as the owner of a small car, I, alas, have not seen and do not see myself.

Great ideology

ALEXEY TOPUNOV
driving experience 26 years, height 178 cm, weight 70 kg

Endow compact hatchback complete drive and increased ground clearance, in my opinion, the idea is great. Especially for those who, every single day, in any weather and any time of the year, travel along the route "to the city for work - out of town home." The Suzuki SX4 is perfect for this role. Cheerful, maneuverable, quite economical and, most importantly, able to overcome Russian directions after any natural anomalies. Of course, with the tasks of a forwarder or a car for trips big company this model will not cope with nature, well, you should not put them in front of it. Yes, she doesn't have the best big trunk and interior, but how many cars do you see among the cars standing in the morning traffic jams, in which the crew exceeds the number of two or three people? And by the way, her cargo capabilities easy to increase, because it is not for nothing that roof rails are already in the basic equipment. In general, if I would not be burdened with a family, then most likely I would think about buying a Suzuki SX4.

For your beautiful eyes

ALEXANDER BUDKIN

A pleasant dissonance attracted the attention of huge mirrors on such a modest car. Personally, I'm all for it. I noticed these vanes even before I got into the car.

Settled in the driver's seat, twisted, looked around. Everything important is in its place, but there are no frills at all. Everything is done deliberately functionally, without "fingering". I would be inclined to take this approach as the ideal concept for building an inexpensive car. However, the word "inexpensive" did not go further than ideology. I saw the price tag - I can’t call it modest. So the concept is good, but its implementation is a little blurry.

According to the "taxiing" - without any frills. In terms of suspension comfort - not bad for a “baby”. "Bumps" machine "swallows" well. Brakes hard. It is a pity that quite a lot of "shagreen" comes to the steering wheel from the road - joints and microrelief formed by fillers in asphalt.

Accelerates a car with a gun is not very intense and at the same time noisy. Under such a thrust-to-weight ratio, of course, it’s better than a “mechanic”, but then one of the main advantages will be lost - attractiveness for the weaker half. The strong sex, which tends to implicitly compare with the Renault Duster, is unlikely to form the backbone of fans. It is difficult to lure him into beautiful eyes alone. At least in this matter.

Reasonable sufficiency

YURI KOZLOV

I sincerely love small cars: they give joy, a smile and allow us to move away from our stupid mentality “the blacker and more jeep, the steeper. Perhaps that is why one of the few cars today, at the sight of which it starts to itch in my wallet area, - Suzuki Jimny. But the SX4 did not evoke such emotions or desires, although it is not bad. I have enough engine power, I really liked the machine for predictability and comfortable operation, the suspension, coupled with a small base of the body, is shaking, but there is a margin for energy consumption. The "climate" is adequate, the instruments are informative, the ergonomics are at a decent level. The question is only the amount of space in the back - isn't it enough? You can read about music by opening the previous "fitting" (ORD No. 10, 2012) - the head unit is identical to that installed on the Opel Antara, and has all the same drawbacks. The average fuel consumption was reasonable for traffic jams at the end of August 9.1 l / 100 km. "However!" - it was this phrase of Kisa Vorobyaninov that I remembered after getting acquainted with the price list for SX4 - 865,000 rubles. Sweeten the pill for the owner Japanese car could only be assembled in the Land of the Rising Sun, but it is Hungarian. I started to get colder and colder.

Not for all

LEONID KLIMANOVICH
driving experience 20 years, height 187 cm, weight 79 kg

Suzuki SX4 has not been updated that much, more cosmetically. But essentially remained the same. On the move, he leaves a feeling of strong and quite mobile, it can famously slip through the speed bumps, he dives into turns willingly and nimbly. But a somewhat stupid automatic machine takes away part of this liveliness and agility - it either thinks at the wrong time, then it starts to fuss, constantly changing gears, alas, not always on time either. Many people will like compactness and decent cross-country ability by the standards of a crossover, if not during field trips, then at least while driving through snowy winter yards. However, the high noise level and modest finishing materials are unlikely to please everyone who is willing to shell out the amount in which sellers evaluate this car. And the supply of space inside the Suzuki is not impressive. In general, not at all for everyone.

In order to distinguish the cars ourselves, we asked to install the ALL GRIP nameplate on the all-wheel drive Suzuki SX4 4WD. And if without jokes, then only by it you will recognize a car with all-wheel drive.

The ground clearance of both SX4s is 180mm. Although some manufacturers offer increased ground clearance for all-wheel drive modifications of their crossovers. And this sometimes becomes a decisive factor when choosing the type of drive. Although these machines are usually more expensive.

In the case of the Suzuki SX4, the ground clearance of the mono- and all-wheel drive versions is the same - 180 mm. But on the 4WD version, it is easier to drive onto the curb without slipping. After all, while the front wheels are pulling the car onto the ledge, the rear wheels are pushing it.

price issue

One of the key points is the cost of a car in mono- and all-wheel drive versions. The new SX4, regardless of the type of drive and gearbox, is offered in two trim levels: GL and GLX. In the 2WD version with a 1.6-liter (117 hp) engine and a 5-speed manual transmission, the car can be purchased for 467,000 UAH. And this is the minimum price for the model as a whole. And the same car, but with all-wheel drive ALL GRIP (4WD), costs UAH 509,000.

The atmospheric 1.6-liter engine with distributed injection develops 117 hp. and 156 Nm. With such indicators of the power unit, the crossover demonstrates a calm character. But it is for such a machine that a choice of trim levels, drives, gearboxes is offered. In addition, its cost is minimal.

In our case, it is enough to pay an additional UAH 42,000 for all-wheel drive, but cars of other brands with all-wheel drive can only be offered in a more expensive version and with more powerful engines, which entails an even greater increase in cost.

An example of this is the all-wheel drive Suzuki SX4 4WD with a more modern 1.4-liter and powerful (140 hp) turbocharged engine that works exclusively with an automatic. And one of our cars is just like that. It will cost UAH 690,000, but it clearly demonstrates the differences in equipment.

A more modern powerful (140 hp) and high-torque (220 Nm) turbocharged 1.4 Booster Jet engine and direct injection installed on Suzuki SX4 only with automatic and all-wheel drive version. The dynamics of such a car is the best, and the speed is the highest.

Only this car is equipped with a 7-inch touch screen, rear view camera and navigation. And if these options are important to you, then the choice will be clear. And then you get, moreover, the most dynamic and fastest of the new SX4.

Movement difference

For the 1.6-liter car, both types of drive and gearbox are offered: a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic. With the same transmission, it is the front-wheel drive car that accelerates to hundreds of 1 s earlier and travels 5 km / h faster. At the same time, its engine also consumes less fuel- 0.2 l with manual gearbox and 0.3 l with automatic gearbox.

After all, a car with a gun is 85 kg heavier. It's like you're carrying another adult with you all the time. However, the surcharge at the gas station for it is not so significant. In addition, it directly depends on the driving style and fuel quality. But the advantages that a car with all-wheel drive provides, we appreciated driving the aforementioned 140-horsepower turbocharged Suzuki SX4 4WD.

According to factory data, it should consume gasoline at the level of an all-wheel drive 1.6-liter car with automatic transmission and a little more than a front-wheel drive (see table). But in fact, the fuel consumption of both cars turned out to be equal and amounted to 7.5-8.0 liters per 100 km during the test drive.

The Suzuki SX4 has two cupholders in the tunnel between the front seats.

For dynamic driving naturally aspirated engine you have to constantly turn under a loud howl, the box sometimes switches down rudely, and the ride becomes less smooth and uncomfortable. While the car with a 1.4-liter turbo engine starts without a pause, it gains momentum noticeably easier already at low and medium speeds. At the same time, the engine is almost inaudible, but it provides sufficient traction.

But they do not interfere with the placement of the drive mode switch in the all-wheel drive version.

In fact, in Auto mode, only the front-wheel drive works to save fuel, but as soon as they start to slip, the rear wheels turn on, having received half the traction.

Similarly, the torque is distributed when the switch is set to Snow or Sport. But the system ESP stabilization already comes into operation sooner or later (according to the selected mode). IN winter mode equal distribution of thrust along the axes can be fixed with the Lock button. And such blocking is kept at speeds up to 60 km / h.

But we managed without it even on a steep slope. We admit that we calculated in advance the path of retreat, or rather rolling down to the very bottom, but everything turned out to be much simpler. Only slightly turning the front wheels on the ground, the compact crossover easily leaves on a flat surface. On a monodrive, nothing would shine for us in this situation. And during normal driving, you will not notice the difference between the drives. Although in fact, even on equal clean roads there is a difference. Especially if you turn on the Sport mode. In it, the Suzuki SX4 becomes all-wheel drive with every turn of the steering wheel. This has a positive effect on the dynamics of the car. The corresponding mood is created by sharper reactions of the motor to the gas pedal, since the box keeps the engine for more high revs. And all because the box starts to switch up later, and down - earlier.

To find steep slope You don't have to leave the city at all. Similar situation may occur when going on a picnic or to the beach. If we were in such a situation on a front-wheel drive crossover, there would be problems, but with all-wheel drive we drove effortlessly.

Due to the moderately stiff suspension, the car does not collapse. But with sharp maneuvers, it is worth remembering that on front wheel drive car many drivers reflexively perform right action, since its behavior is more predictable than that of all-wheel drive, especially with torque floating along the axes. Indeed, even the position of the steered wheels can determine how the car will behave: as a front-wheel drive or, having received most of the traction on rear wheels, - as a rear-wheel drive ...

But still…

The advantages of a crossover, or SUV, over passenger cars, first of all, in the increased ground clearance. But four-wheel drive on such a city car is a useful thing, but not at all obligatory. With it, the car is more expensive when buying, subsequent repair and maintenance, and it also consumes more fuel.

Whereas a crossover with only front-wheel drive still allows you to drive through damaged sections of roads more safely, park near curbs and climb them. Although it is still easier to do this on a car with all-wheel drive. It is less likely to break the front wheels into slip, because while they are pulling the car onto the ledge, the rear ones are pushing it.

4WD time

In winter, you feel the benefits of all-wheel drive best of all. It is much easier to drive out of a snow-covered parking space, drive on an unpaved road and accelerate on slippery surfaces. You should also choose such a car if you at least sometimes travel to rough terrain or live in conditions where all-wheel drive is simply necessary: outside the city, where roads are not cleared, or where you have to climb uphill to the house.

In addition, if you want to buy a car in a more complete (or maximum) equipment and / or with the most powerful engine (this applies not only to Suzuki SX4, but also to cars of other brands), then such a car will most likely be all-wheel drive.

When you first get into a car, its interior captivates - high seating position, large windows, healthy side mirrors with heating. It feels like you are sitting in a helicopter with a great view. But at the very first intersection you are convinced of the opposite - a view in no-ka-kash-ku. My eyes are on the same level with the widest blind part of the pieces of iron supporting the roof. When, on the 3rd week of operation, I managed (with my thirty years of experience) not to notice a bus on the right at the intersection ... BUS, damn it! I experienced the deepest shock. However, the view to the left is not better - when turning left, you can’t see at all where you are going and you valiantly collect all the pits and potholes with your left wheel. The central mirror is located clearly at eye level and the same interferes with the forward view. In general, you have to pretend to be a restless monkey at the wheel - then deviate to the right, then to the left, then bend down, then straighten up. But the back does not have time to become numb ... not without pluses, however, yeah.

And more about mirrors. Who has a mirror control joystick on the driver's door, under the left hand? Just a complete idiot. Firstly, I get into the cabin in the rain too, and water on the joystick is not good. Secondly, how many percent of drivers are left-handed? Actually a minority. In the third, there is no “fold mirrors” button - this can only be done by hand. Fourthly, this cannot be done by hand - the mirror body rests against the plastic of the door and the mirror does not fold to the end. Fifthly, well ... this will probably be news to suzukovod designers, but right mirror hanging not for beauty. On the right, the same cars drive, and there are garage doors. Therefore, it is not at all clear why there is heating only on the left mirror. Probably the designer of the machine is blind in his right eye. Although judging by the paragraph above, he does not use his eyes at all. And sixthly, why does the power window of the driver's door, claiming, judging by the inscription, the high title of "auto" in the mode of this very "auto" can only lower the glass, but cannot raise it?

When I turned on the wipers for the first time in the rain, I got scared. Jokes aside! The wiper arms are long and thick. Each time they were triggered, there was a complete feeling of a heavy, long and dangerous object flying to the car's cut. In general, it is even strange that this rake manages not to interfere with the review. Compared to them, the rear wiper is associated with the stump of a dog's tail. However, the entire rear part of the car is planned and assembled through the rear part - the slope of the same bumper is such that when washing the car, water does not drain from it. Do not scratch dirt from the joints of the body. From the gaps between the glass and the body is the same. Normal people (they are clearly not in Suzuki designers) do not do this. Here is the rear window without any gaps. Why the hell are the gaps in the rear side windows? washer rear window pours water at the very end of the wiper stroke. Not at the beginning of the course, but at the end. With all this, I was kindly given the opportunity to first moisten the glass, and only then (one horseradish to dry) drag the janitor over the glass. Judging by the forums, this problem got everyone, but even such a trifle has not been corrected for years. By the way, how can I see how much fluid is in the washer reservoir if my eye does not grow on a half-meter flexible tentacle?

The interior plastic is clearly picked up in some kind of garbage dump, there is not even a question of any mechanical strength and quality. The plastic on the doors sags at the slightest pressure, in the driver's door it generally shakes, constantly creaks, resonates and grunts. The deflectors in the center of the panel (above the tape recorder) independently change the direction of the air flow when the car is moving. The car passed only 3 thousand, and it feels like a grenade was blown up in the trunk - the plastic is almost scratched with a fingernail and immediately changes its color to white. There are very few pockets in the car where you can put something. The doors are very narrow. But the threshold is unreasonably wide and, given that the suspension is high and the seat is high, it is almost impossible to get out of the car without soiling your trousers on the threshold. The pedal simulator for the left foot began to fall off already at the third thousand km. Around the same time, a very unpleasant click appeared at the end of the brake pedal stroke. It manifests itself even when the car is stationary (you must press the brake before switching the parking to drive or reverse), which is definitely very annoying. By the way, in the manual, about a page is covered with conditions under which ESP system"may not work correctly." For 4.5 thousand km, I have never managed to make this system work. No matter how I tried to provoke the system, it refuses to show itself in any way. Campaign this very ESP is just a hoax. Here ABS works with a bang. And then thanks.

There is nowhere to put a full-size spare tire in the car, which is absolutely not ice in winter. In general, the size of the body was shortened too much, but the mass of 1.5 tons did not go anywhere and the acceleration dynamics leaves much to be desired.

Yes, the 1.6-liter engine is frankly too small for a typewriter. They already wrote here that, they say, give it 6,000 revolutions, and it will show itself. But personally, it’s very uncomfortable for me to throw even 3 thousand around the city - the engine growls like a buffalo in the mating season, without creating pleasant sensations at all. The gas pedal is absolutely not informative. Firstly, it has a long free play (although it disappeared after MOT in 2000 and reappeared 30 minutes later). Secondly, I just can’t “catch” the speed I need in the city, because after a long freewheel, the gas pedal becomes overly sensitive and the machine starts changing gears for nothing. On Toyota, for example, I never thought about this, I pressed the gas with the usual effort and fixed my leg. All! The car started off, the engine picked up 2000 rpm, then the machine gradually reached the last gear and then the car continued to drive at 2000 rpm. On a Suzuka, dialing 2000 in first gear is not a problem, only in last transmission she won't switch at all. So it will be joking on the 3rd. And if suddenly it switches to the 4th, then the 3rd will immediately return. Why? Unclear. On the highway, the car goes at 90 km / h at 2100 rpm and goes almost silently. In any gear, at speeds from 2200 to 2500-2700, the car just roars and is unlucky. To carry you need at least 3000. On the highway, this is 110 km / h. At a lower speed (i.e. at lower speeds) on each, even the smallest hill, the machine immediately cuts into 3rd gear. In general, there is a choice on the highway: either violate traffic rules, or go. In a city at 65 km/h, a car can travel 3 different programs at: 2.5, 2 and 1.5 thousand engine revolutions. For some reason, it is very difficult to force the machine to keep 1.5, although this is the most economical mode. By the way, about saving.

The car has super-duper-mega crap showing average consumption fuel in liters per 100 km. (All of the following happened strictly on front wheel drive). Somehow, my “I want to eat” light came on 100 meters from the gas station. I stopped by. I look at the mileage - 3000 km exactly. How lovely! I filled in 40 liters, dropped the average consumption and drove off. A week later, the light came on again. I look at the average consumption - 8.7 liters per hundred. I look at mileage 3418, I don’t understand ... I refueled again. 40 liters. I dropped not only the average consumption, but also the mileage "A". Driving, the light came on. Watch mileage — 383, average consumption — 9.2. Maybe underfilling at the gas station, you ask. So it's easy to check! Just 2 options. 1) after refueling, we look “how long the fuel lasts” on the super-puer magician horseradish, divide what is shown there by 100 and multiply by the consumption shown there in liters per 100 km. This arithmetic did not work for me only at one gas station (I don’t refuel there anymore). 2) According to the arrow on the fuel gauge (1 division 10 liters). So I checked and always check. Pour normally. Somehow I filled a full tank (43 liters with a light bulb just lit), dropped the consumption and mileage. The tank was enough for 493 km. The average expense in mathematics is 43/4.93=8.7. The average consumption of super-duper-mega horseradish 7.6. That is, I understand that I am on .... deceived. And I can even guess where. But why the hell? Or do they not know how to count suzukovo designers? Hardly. Most likely it is " marketing ploy", colloquially a hoax. Impudent. And more about super-duper-mega horseradish. On the front panel, the machine can show a lot of things: both the average fuel consumption (it’s lying, as you already understood), and how many kilometers the fuel tank will last (with a fake consumption), and the temperature overboard, and three more different mileage... at the same time, it is written in black in Russian in the instructions - do not indulge in this on the go - in order to switch the information, you need to climb through the steering wheel with your hand, and this is fraught with an accident. And how to switch something? After all, the constructor did not think of the auto-switching mode between all these parameters! Or at least the button for switching information where to do it closer, was it not enough mind? Well, at least on the steering wheel. Instead of tape recorder control buttons. All the same, only the pause button is needed from them. Everything else is easier to control from the tape recorder itself - it is close and under the right hand. And more about the clock. They are in the car. Only show the time only when the ignition is on. Those. if you are sitting in the car and waiting for someone, you can only listen to the tape recorder, it works in the first position of the key. But unfortunately you can't see the time. By the way, you just have to wait with closed door. In the first position of the key, with the driver's door open, the machine makes frequent annoying sounds. With the ignition on, no. Those. you can’t sit in a car with the door open, but you can drive!

Light. Well, this is probably the trouble of all block headlights - one lamp in two threads: for high and low beams. Moreover, only the distant thread shines at the far. Probably to keep the headlight from overheating. In general, there is frankly little light at night, especially in the rain. And the headlight height correction, although it helps, is weak. And yet, personally, I am annoyed by the color of the internal lighting of the stove and air conditioner tape recorder. He's fucking red. Of course, I saw that the car was imported from Hungary. I know that Count Dracula is from somewhere in those parts ... BUT, if the designer-stsuzukovody doesn’t know a damn thing, I inform you that, in fact, the red color in a car is the color of danger. Normal people designate them with indicators such as “little oil”, “handbrake is tightened - don’t even think about driving”, “abs is dead”, “engine overheated” and so on, and not the controls are highlighted.

Suspension ... everyone who studied at school should know the principle of operation of a car shock absorber - the rod must enter the shock absorber absolutely freely, without effort, which allows the car to pass over a bump on the road with minimal impact. The rod must come out of the shock absorber with great effort so that the wheel "flies" over the pits. At the same time, vibrations of the body are damped. But the designer-suzukovod obviously missed this lesson. The course of the car is very hard, it reacts very strongly to everything, even the smallest pits and bumps, which is hardly useful for the suspension in general and for the body in particular.

Security system... Oh! this is a different song! More precisely ditties. Obscene. And so, you can unlock the doors in the car with three different ways: button on the key fob, button on the front door or trunk, mechanical key. For a month and a half, I still can’t force myself to unlock the doors by double pressing the door button. Only with a single one ... If you locked the car from the key fob - the buttons on the door of the car will no longer be unlocked - this is dangerous! On the contrary, you can! True, in half the cases, the “unlock” key fob button will lock the car ... And if it unlocks, the turn signals will blink twice, although only the driver’s door will be unlocked. And don't ask me why. Probably, the car itself does not understand whether it is locked or not (they write so in the instructions - always check whether you have locked the machine). In short, you need to remember how the car closed. If you unlock the car once (as everyone is used to) by pressing a button outside the driver's door, the passenger doors will not unlock and will not let your wife and children in - this is dangerous! If you open the trunk with the button and load it into the car, I don’t know, for example, skis. Then, God forbid, it occurs to you to unlock the front door at the same time in order to correct the load - it will not open. If one door is open, the other door cannot be unlocked! Is it dangerous! I once couldn't get into the car for 10 minutes. Won't open, damnit! Then, by chance, since it was a rainy day, I noticed that the open door lamp was lit on the instrument panel. It turned out that the trunk did not close completely. In short, to the question “if you press a button on the car door, will it open?” there is no definitive answer at all. If you unlock the trunk, throw something in there, close it and press the button on the driver's door, the driver's door will unlock. If you do the opposite, first poke the button on the driver's door, then on the trunk - the car will lock. A scribe, in short. If you need to warm up the car, you need to start it. After that, it cannot be closed - it is dangerous! Stand next to the car like an idol. If there is no electronic key in the running car, then you can turn on the gear and drive safely ... the absence of an electronic key (i.e., the absence of the owner in the car) does not interfere with the gear and drive the car at all - it’s damn safe!!! …. Well, what the hell is such a "security system"? And from whom??? Personally, I have only one answer - to deliver the maximum lifetime inconvenience to the rightful owner of the car. I don't have any other answers. In fairness, I note that I brazenly conducted an experiment with driving without an electronic key on a 2010 Toyota RAV4 of a friend. For too long, he whinnied over the fact that my car can safely drive without me. Leaving Toyota, I brazenly stole it electronic key waving it in front of the driver's nose. Having made a lap of honor around me, my friend no longer laughed, but was very thoughtful … But back to the suzuki. If the car does not need a key to drive, then what protects the Suzuka from theft? The answer is in the center of page 3-27 of the owner's instructions. I quote: "The security alarm indicator ... A flashing indicator prevents theft, informing the attacker that the car is equipped with a security system" All clear? My car is "protected" by a flashing LED!!! All in all. What kind of eccentric (with the letter “M”) came up with this?! And how much did this "security system" cost me?! Well, obviously not at the price of a blinking LED! And setting the alarm will not solve the problem, alas.

By the way, about the instructions. Page 1-4, middle. Quote: "When closing a locked front door, remember to raise the door handle, otherwise the door will remain unlocked." Anyone understand anything? Personally, I don't. Why close a locked door? And why does it end up being unlocked? This instruction clearly needs to be translated from Russian into Russian. Moreover, it must be taken into account that in the car, on the door there is not a single handle that would rise up or fall down. Well, except for the power window keys. But it's hardly about them, right?

Painting. You already guessed. After only 500 km there were places with peeling paint on the left side of the car.

At the beginning of the review, I put "four-wheel drive" in quotation marks. And not in vain. The owner's manual says that four-wheel drive is NOT needed to drive on sand or snow (and I actually live in Siberia ...), but only to give the car stability. However, it is reported that turning on all-wheel drive on wet road it is impossible - this can lead to serious damage to the transmission. Here I begin to think that I have been cruelly deceived again. And frankly, I don’t understand what kind of “all-wheel drive” is, which is not clear why it is needed, and it turns out that it is not possible to turn it on in any weather.

The rear brake discs already show visible wear and rust spots. Probably good steel for the whole car was not enough.
