The money for the purchase of Karina was given by her parents - about 4 thousand "green". Since I have never “tried on” a car for myself, I went through a bunch of articles on the Internet, looking for information about only one thing - which car will not only be sufficient for a family (4 people), but also VERY inexpensive and easy to operate. I took a bunch of relatives and acquaintances to the flea market "bride", they looked at the money - once and at the convenience of sitting in the car - twice. After Internet reviews, the choice clearly fell on Toyota Corolla, but the size of the cabin turned out to be small - I’m 180 cm tall. I won’t bore you with a long listing of the cars I’ve viewed - Karina liked the third viewing at the flea market. Color - dark red, almost cherry, body AT192 ("smile"), engine - 5A, 1.5 liters. I was in Russia for one year. She lay down on the heart immediately - looked, as they say. So you need to take. We drove it to the service station, looked at the hodovka on the lift - and processed the documents. Having never driven an “adult” car before (that is, alone and not on country roads), I drove ALONE for a relative (he was in his car) home. After the very first intersection, the traffic police (a car without license plates) was stopped, the documents were checked and they were released. The drive to the house is about 5 km in the city and about 15 km on the highway. ARRIVED!!! That's what automatic transmission means!

I drove this car for exactly a year, having wound 20,000 km during this time. What has been repaired during this time - as a rule, only natural replacements. I changed the racks (both the front ones (used - 1700r.x2) and the rear ones (new 1890r.x2) - the car was immediately on the “killed” racks, so I dropped the price when buying). I changed the brake pads - first the front ones (940 rubles), then the rear ones (550 rubles). I changed my native (1993!) thermostat - after that the stove was very impressive (by the way, a broken thermostat is determined by the fact that the operating temperature on the sensor is noticeably below the middle). Due to the increased vibration compared to the purchase, the longitudinal engine mount had to be replaced. Although they are supposed to be changed in pairs, there was only enough money for one ... I changed the oil in the engine twice (with flushing and replacing the filter, of course). Summer oil - mineral, in winter - synthetics. Changed the air filter. There was a “dead” battery - but until it stopped starting in winter, it didn’t change. By the way, what happened after it didn’t start is another story.

In October frost hit - about 30 degrees. Abruptly and without warning. I had an alarm with a timed start, but the battery died and the engine would not start. On Monday morning I went to work - or rather I was going to do it - nothing happened - the car did not start. Took the battery, the next day I tried to start again. But he didn't. After waiting for the frost to fall to minus 15, I tried to start up, inviting a friend in a car for insurance (to drive “on a cable” to the nearest warm box to “warm up”). But the swallow started up! True, the initial joy was overshadowed by an obvious malfunction - the car had obvious dips in power, did not pick up speed. By interviewing friends and consulting with experts, a possible malfunction was determined - clogging of the fuel filter (it tends to condense dirt in the cold) and injectors. Replacing one and flushing the others fixed the problem. Just in case, I also changed the spark plugs (NGK for 85 rubles). I received a lot of advice on possible ways to start a car in winter. Firstly, under the rear seat there is a fuel pump connector that can be disconnected and, if the battery allows you to “twist” the engine without it, dry the candles. Secondly, if the car did not start after several attempts, at the next start try to squeeze the gas all the way (just squeeze it out, then do nothing!) Before turning the ignition key. Thirdly, putting a rag on the block in the area of injectors and watering with warm water increases the likelihood of winding. Fourthly, the heating of the catalyst is the same in principle. Fifthly, a warm garage for severe frosts is still preferable - the car wears out less (this applies to both the engine and the chassis). By the way, one more piece of advice (I read it, checked it, I recommend it) - when warming up in winter, switch the automatic transmission to the “N” mode - the engine warms up faster, the box also warms up in idle mode.

Fuel consumption - 8.5-9 in summer (highway / city in a ratio of 50/50). In winter - 12 liters (together with timer warm-ups at night - at least 10 minutes every 4 hours. When the temperature at night is above minus 15 - no warm-up at all). Equipment of the car: central locking, full electric drive (saloon windows - everything, mirrors - adjustment), steering wheel height adjustment (3 positions). A good box under the front passenger seat, a 12-disc CD changer, a telescopic marker light that comes out of the bumper - it helps a lot when maneuvering, since the hood is not visible. The rear spoiler is also convenient when reversing - catching the dimensions of the car. Even with a 1.5 liter engine, due to the “fast” automatic transmission, few people competed at traffic lights. In general, not a car, but a song.

In March of this year, it became possible to change cars. After some conversations with his wife, it was decided to spend the money "after all on the car", and not on something else. We went to the flea market to see what there is from the cars and ask the price, but in the end I sold and bought the car on the first day. In principle, having already traveled a year on a Japanese, you jealously look at the “neighbors” - who has what kind of “horse”, fortunately, although we do not have Vladivostok, there are more “Japanese” than other cars. Therefore, I watched only Carina (1995-1998), Corona (1995-1997). The car was planned for a long time, so I wanted to fresher and more spacious. As a result (with a relatively poor choice), the choice fell on this car - Toyota Corona Premio. What bribed? A relatively spacious interior (although not much smaller than Karinovsky), more options (although this is not the main thing for me in the car) and ... Karina’s 1997/v body that didn’t “look” much outwardly - she has a painfully short rear end (although, for the sake of objectivity , and on the Corona Premio it was initially unimpressive). I do not want to say bad things about anyone, I will only say one thing: never buy anything through relatives/acquaintances and do not sell anything to relatives/acquaintances. I took this car in this way and ... What I already changed (although you could find it at the service station when buying) and what else you have to change - it's your own fault, there are two fools on the market - one buys, the second sells. This time I was the fool.

So, Toyota Crown Premium, 1996, 7A engine, 1.8 liters. Salon "E": full power accessories (window regulators, adjustment and "parking" of mirrors), auto light (when the lighting decreases, the side lights and number plate lights turn on first, then the headlights. With a sharp darkening, the headlights turn on immediately - very convenient when driving through tunnels, etc. ), economizer (lights up “green” in fuel economy mode). Adjustment of the frequency of movement of the "wipers" in the "intermittent" mode. A box for glasses with two lamps and switches along the edges is also convenient, located above the saloon mirror. ABS. Interior glass coating with sun and UV protection in green.
Fuel consumption - 8.1-8.3 in summer (highway / city in a ratio of 50/50). In winter, I haven’t measured it yet, but in the spring, with frosts up to 20 with warming up, it turned out about 9.2-9.5 liters. On the highway in the "economizer" mode at a speed of 125 km / h, the consumption is 7.5 l / 100 km.
Now about the noticed differences in the two cars:
1. The Premio cabin is noticeably longer - about 20 cm (i.e., the rear passengers are more comfortable to sit - checked. Six of us: 4 adults and 2 children 4 and 14 years old - it was not crowded for 450 km or 6 hours. And on the way there and back).
2. At Karina, the front pillars are more hollow, as a result, when turning right, the rack interferes with the review (at least for me with my body position in the cabin). Premium has no such drawback.
3. Seats at Premio are higher above the road, so the speed is less felt.
4. Karina's headlights blinded the oncoming ones too, despite attempts to adjust with special bolts, the solution to the problem would be in a radical alteration of the headlights. The Premium headlights are more “correct”.
5. Karina's automatic transmission is more "uniform" - switching between speeds is always at the same intervals. On the Premium there is a noticeable "dip" between 1st and 2nd gear. Although in terms of acceleration characteristics (to pay tribute to the difference in engine size), Premio, it seems to me, is still faster and more dynamic.
6. The convenient location of the horn buttons on the Premium - on the edges of the steering wheel spokes, as well as a louder horn, make the ride more relaxed in certain situations.
7. Much faster warm-up of the engine on the Premium, as well as a longer cooling it down after stopping - means less fuel consumption in winter. 8. The hood on the Premium is visible - which makes maneuvering comfortable even in the absence of overall devices.
9. Illumination of the "glove compartment" on the Premium when the dimensions or headlights are turned on.
10. Karina had either a defect, or simply not provided for by the designers - it was possible to turn off the engine and remove the key from the lock in any position of the automatic transmission. On Premium - only in the "P" position.
11. How much I suffered (probably km 5), until I realized that the washer does not work by pressing the wiper lever from the end, as on Karina, but by pulling it towards you, like on a turn switch (as a high beam signal is made).
12. The absence of a shelf under the glove compartment and a drawer under the front passenger seat is a significant drawback of Premio. All sorts of rags and other little things have to be put in the door drawers, but they are smaller than on Karina.
13. The volume of the washer in Premium feels about 3 liters. On Karina - less than 2 times.
14. If you use standard number holders with vias, then Karina “fits” into place without any problems. At Premio, in a standard place, the number closes the opening of the trunk lock.
15. The rear seat headrests and a retractable armrest are also there - it’s probably convenient, but I haven’t driven in the back of this car yet.

That, probably, is all the summary of the comparison of two relatively similar cars. At least for myself, I distribute these classes like this (for popular Toyota brands):
Small class - COROLLA, SPRINTER;
Middle class - CARINA, CORONA;
Business class - MARK II, CHISER; CRESTA, VISTA, CAMRY;
Executive class - CROWN, WINDOM.).

Hello to all current or future owners of Toyota Crown Premium. I want to write a few words about my Premium. Bought it at the end of March 2004. I walked around the car market and was looking for a car that I would like, and I didn’t think in advance to buy the Crown Premium. I walked like that, I looked, I thought that I would like it, then I'll take it. There were about 6200 USD in my pocket, plus or minus 100 bucks. At first I thought to buy Mark II, commercials 2.0, 2.5 liters, but when he saw Premium, immediately fell in love with this car. Previously, I did not notice the cars of this brand, probably because I did not look closely, but now I only think about it. As soon as I saw my Premio, I immediately realized that here she is - my beauty. Released in 1996, engine 7A (the most acceptable for her, if only because there were no problems, and depending on the reviews, I think I made the right decision), 1800 cubic meters, 115 horses. Power windows, air conditioning, folding mirrors, head unit and CD with 4 speakers, steering wheel height adjustment, rear window heating, American tint film, manual transmission. White color, alloy wheels 14, tires DUNLOP (was all season, now changed to winter, but the same company). The seller asked for 6500 USD for the typewriter, he managed to throw off just up to 6200 USD. He sat behind the wheel, tried all the devices and drove. Out of habit, the right-hand drive was an innovation for me (this is my first Japanese woman, before it was a Zhiguli 2106, I’ll also say the car is good, and you can understand what my feeling was when I switched to Premium - an indescribable delight from driving it). I drove onto the highway and stoked the gas pedal, she quickly carried me on the way home. The driving experience is just great, only at first it was unusual to shift gears with the left hand, but along the way I quickly got used to both the right steering wheel and the shifting of the gearbox with the left hand. I’m driving calmly at 100-120 km / h without touching anyone, and then the Niva (five-step) that has come from somewhere, I’m squeezing the steering wheel tighter, I start to put pressure on the gas, the distance between us began to rapidly decrease. I reached 130, carefully so, I did it and I'm approaching 140 km / h. I keep this speed and look in the rearview mirror, and this Niva, nevertheless, catches up with me and overtakes me at a speed of 150 km / h. Then a mountain appeared in front of us and quite steep, and on the ascent I still overtook the Niva. After I accelerated to 170 km / h and became inaccessible to her. Almost until the next settlement, I kept it that way, sometimes slowing down on bumps in the road (you yourself understand what the second trouble is in Russia). Then it dropped to 130, and Niva caught up with me, but then a turn appeared on our way, which separated us. Saying goodbye (horn signals), I rolled in my direction, enjoying the race, and he in his. I pay tribute to the domestic auto industry, after all, there are cars that can compete with foreign cars, it's a pity that they are rare. I want to note that five men were sitting in the Niva, not even very frail, but I was not alone. Upon arrival home, I did not immediately change anything, but decided gradually. The car never let me down, never got stuck anywhere, didn’t stall, started with a half turn. It keeps well on the road, and in winter, thanks to the front-wheel drive, it doesn’t skid anywhere, and to take it into a skid, you need a lot of strength and skill, it can get out of almost any snowdrift. The cabin is comfortable, there is quite a lot of space both in front and behind, but as it was written in the reviews, the windows fog up a lot, I think the temperature difference in the cabin and outside affects. Or is it some kind of defect of the designers - the Japanese. The stove, however, works well - it will warm in the winter, cool in the summer with the help of an air conditioner. The trunk is large and roomy, instead of a spare wheel there was a dokatka, but now I bought a normal wheel. I really like the Premium both for its appearance and driving performance, behavior on the road, handling, interior (although not under a tree, but that's nothing). If anyone has decided to buy a beautiful, good, unpretentious car in operation, then I personally advise you to Toyota Crown Premium. But you don't have to listen to me, I'm not against it, everyone likes something different. And I like Crown Premium. Until then, good luck on the road!!!

The Corona car first appeared in July 1957, a little later than the first generation of Toyota Crown cars. But in 1996, during the preparation for the release of the 11th generation car, it was decided to give it a second name. Since that time, the car has become known as Corona Premio. As before, the car continued to be considered one of the "basic" sedans produced under the Toyota brand, although the appearance of the car has changed. But this was done with a completely understandable goal - to attract the attention of new potential buyers, mainly from among the youth. For this, in particular, the name was partially changed, for the sake of the same, the design of the car was partially updated. The car was equipped with a new engine - a D-4 direct injection engine. In addition to this 145-horsepower 2000 cc engine. see, it was possible to choose 3 more varieties of a gasoline engine, and, in addition, a diesel engine was also in the lineup. Either a 4-speed automatic or a 5-speed manual transmission could be installed as a transmission, although only one option was provided for the D-4 engine with a 4-speed "automatic". The standard equipment of the car included dual airbags, an ABS system, seat belts equipped with a pretensioner & force limiter. In addition to the spacious interior, the car was distinguished by a spacious trunk. In 2001, the model was simply called Premio, and the second word "corona" disappeared from the name.

Detailed har-ka Toyota Corona Premio in numbers, among the most important to which attention is most often paid is - price in rubles at the time of appearance in car dealerships and consumption fuel in various conditions: on the city highway or mixed, as well as weight full and curb. Still more important are dimensions And trunk volume ground clearance maximum speed acceleration up to 100 km in seconds or the time taken to cover 402 meters. Transmission automatic, mechanical; drive unit rear front or full, or maybe even switchable

Key figures Toyota Corona Premio 1996 sedan characteristic Toyota Corona Premio

With such an engine size of 1587 cubes, a decent number of horses under the hood is provided, although the consumption will not be very high.

A drive that requires special driving skills and getting used to in case of driving with a drive of a different type. For so low price cars are budget since you get just a car to drive and only, but in some cases this is the only goal without beauty. You don't need more to move around the city. Perhaps the slogan for such a vehicle is not suitable "Miserly pays twice."

The Toyota Crown Premium is very different from its predecessors, although it is still produced in the sedan class. Since the model belongs to the budget segment, you should not expect any special frills. The advantage of Premio is the well-known quality. The company values its reputation and produces only high-tech models off the assembly line.

Back in 1957, the Japanese corporation Toyota Motor Corporation introduced the first version of the Corona series to motorists. But as the years went by, technology improved constantly. This car has gained popularity, mainly due to its reliability. That is why the company periodically updated the model, installing various new items on it. In 1996, the first car of the Premio series appeared.

Technical equipment

The body has been almost completely updated, it has become more youthful, stylish for its time, a powerful engine is placed under the hood. "Toyota Crown Premium" will please the owner with a thrust of 145 liters. s (at 6000 rpm - max.) and a displacement of 2000 cu. see This unit only works on 92 or The fuel supply is carried out using the D-4 direct injection system (the injector is responsible for fuel injection). The arrangement of the cylinders is made in the L4 standard, the position of the valves and the camshaft is an overhead valve with two camshafts.
Later, the sedan received 3 more new types of gasoline engines, as well as a diesel engine.

Equipment

For switching gears in a Toyota Crown Premium car with a D-4 engine, a “robot” with a 4-speed transmission is responsible. However, for later versions (1997-2001) running on newer units, a 5-speed manual is also offered as an option.
All variants of this model operate on front-wheel drive, front and rear suspension is supported by shock absorbers (on coil springs). The braking system is very well thought out. In this matter, the careful approach of the manufacturer is felt. In front of the Toyota Crown Premium, it is equipped with ventilated disc brakes, and drum brakes are responsible for the operation of the system at the rear. It is this concept that allows you to properly distribute braking, which is an indisputable plus.
It is also worth paying attention to the large volume of the fuel tank (60 l), which is not inherent in all modern cars.

Dimensions

The ground clearance, as for a sedan, is quite large, it is 155 mm, with a wheel radius of 14 inches. "Toyota Crown Premium" (photo below) has a body with the following dimensions: 4520x1695x1410 mm. The wheelbase is 2580 mm. Vehicle weight (curb) - 1190 kg.

What is the disadvantage of the model?

Perhaps one of the main drawbacks of this car is the fact that cars of this model are produced only on the basis of the right steering wheel, since when developing the updated Corona, the manufacturer relied mainly on the domestic market, as well as on buyers from the UK. However, if the driver wants to drive a full-blooded "Japanese", then this arrangement is easy to get used to.
