KIA announced plans to release an electric version of the Soul in the fall of 2013, and already in February 2014 (at the Chicago auto show), the public was shown a serial sample of the Soul EV.

After that, electric car sales started: first in Korea (May 2014); then in Europe (July of the same year); and in October in California, New York, New Jersey, Oregon and Maryland, i.e. in the territories of the United States, where the corresponding infrastructure is best developed ... The electric Soul never reached Russia.

At the start of sales, the Soul EV was equipped with a set of 96 lithium-polymer batteries with a total capacity of 27 kWh and an electric motor with a capacity of 109 hp. (285 Nm), the combination of which allows you to accelerate the electric Soul from 0 to 100 km / h in 9.5 seconds.

Later, the car underwent modernization, in which it received new battery by 30 kWh, which allowed to increase the stock autonomous running up to 179 km according to the EPA cycle.

From the express charging station, the battery "electro-Soul" is charged in 30 minutes by 80% (charging time from a "regular outlet" is about 4-5 hours.

KIA plans to replace this method with a system wireless charging, which in technical center Hyundai-Kia (HATCI) was tested in the USA on the KIA Soul EV.

The Korean auto giant KIA crossed the mark of 5,000 sold Soul EVs already in August 2015, and in January 2016 the volume of sold electric vehicles reached 10,000 copies, while almost 7,000 of them were sold in Europe.
