Main. So much nonsense has been written about this car that I have to intervene. The main thing is what you expect from the car, what requirements you place on it.

I was looking for something incompatible: three things in one - of course, a comfortable suspension, off-road performance and acceleration dynamics. In none of the cars I have reviewed, even two of the three above requirements did not fit in full. And suddenly...

I, as the next purchase, made a choice between the Land Cruiser Prado (magic suspension, flotation and no dynamics) and the Lexus NX 200t (good dynamics, average suspension comfort and a lot of innovations).

Of course, the price plays an important role. My coveted Land Cruiser Prado can also be dynamic in acceleration with a 4.0 engine and a cost that flies over 3.5 million. But it's not my wallet. Ideally, a car worth up to 2.5 million rubles was needed.

The wife made her contribution and demanded to consider the Mercedes GLA 250. I was more than skeptical about this proposal. And the paradox of the situation was that at the first meeting I hit the doorway with my head.

Any normal driver gets into the car not with his eyes, but with his ass. You aim your gaze at the seat and seat your soft spot on it. without looking at the arch. Someone (perhaps a child) set the seat of the demo car in the cabin to its maximum height. I slightly touched the doorway with my head and immediately issued a verdict - let's get out of here, I have nothing to do in this car.

I'm happy I didn't get to do it. The wife said (well, in general, not without reason) that since they came to the edge of the city, it would not be bad to go through a test drive.

The test drive just shocked me with two things: the silence and comfort just "killed" me on the spot, and then I gape and missed the speed bump. The habitual instinct of a person who has been driving a sedan for many years cringed in anticipation of the inevitable "retribution", but nothing happened - Merce swallowed the obstacle like a small bump.

It turned out that the energy intensity of the suspension corresponds to a decent jeep. In general, later looking at the history of the creation of the GLA on the Internet, I was surprised how many demands were made on the baby in the process of creation.

And I got the strong impression that even the creators themselves did not quite understand why they were doing this. I watched how the smallest crossover from Mercedes was driven through snow, sand, pits, tested in salt, aerodynamic and freezers. FUCK, WHY?!!! But that's what happened!

With quite a decent clearance and 18 inch wheels, the baby has unique characteristics in the rear and front overhangs. The off-road package Off-road and permanent all-wheel drive complete the picture (in the top version, the car automatically changes ground clearance when driving off-road). This alone might be enough.

Do you know what it is like to accelerate to a hundred in 7 seconds on a crossover (albeit on a small one)? Not on a SEDAN, but on a CROSSOVER, swallowing speed bumps and large potholes on the canvas with lazy ease. It's not an AMG, just a GLA 250.

The creators of this car in Germany would be very upset to hear this. How much effort was spent on its creation. I looked at it before buying a car (more than a year ago) and now I could not find it.

This comparison brings us back to earth. After all, just as freely, comfortably and confidently as "Robinson" across the sky, the hero of the next issue of the "special test" - Mercedes-Benz GLA 250 4 Matic - moves on any roads.

The ease with which Mercedes-Benz turned the A-class urban hatchback into a compact crossover is feigned - despite a certain external similarity, the car turned out to be completely different, more harmonious both in appearance and in content.

The result is a clear and punchy sound that lets you enjoy your favorite songs as if in your living room.

An easy landing and a low overhanging roof, pillars with a large slope - all this is not very good for visibility, but in this case it is perfectly compensated by electronic assistants.

Parking radars at the bow and stern, combined with blind spot monitoring and collision avoidance systems, allow you to cut through dense city traffic with pinpoint accuracy.

Despite this smoothness, the car responds immediately to all driver commands. Banks during lane changes are minimal, which, in combination with a 211-horsepower two-liter gasoline turbo engine under the hood, allows you to move very dynamically - and at the same time, comfortably and smoothly, as befits a car born under the three-beam star of Mercedes.

In sports mode, the robotic 7-speed transmission is completely transformed - the gears are "driven in" with sharp jerks, the interior is filled with the sound of an engine similar to the hum of a billion angry bees. The car becomes more aggressive, I'm not afraid of this word - sporty, and its "crossover" is not felt at all as a negative aspect ... At such moments, you begin to understand those who buy a 360-horsepower version of the GLA 45 AMG. Because this chassis is asking for more power!

On suburban highways, the GLA holds a straight line superbly. The suspension effectively straightens the knotted Russian roads - the only thing that can unbalance it is deep pits with sharp edges. In such cases, the chassis receives a nasty blow to the liver. In other situations, the GLA demonstrates exemplary behavior, perfectly working out bumps of various calibers. On graders in a small Mercedes, you can overtake many crossovers, whose drivers are forced to move much more slowly due to strong buildup.

A powerful engine, good (though not standard) noise isolation and a well-working suspension suspension can play a cruel joke with the owner of the GLA, especially if he does not consider himself to be a fan of looking at the speedometer (as well as the readings of the optical traffic sign recognition system displayed on the central display and dashboard). In other words, it's easy to get carried away with absolute movement on the GLA - and imperceptibly exceed the permitted speed by 120 kilometers by commercials ... Last time something similar happened to me on the Subaru WRX STI!

The GLA left the diagonal hanging so easily, as if it had never existed at all - the electronics that control the all-wheel drive system connected using an electro-hydraulic clutch are set up very well here, one might say - exemplary.

Does the GLA have disadvantages? There are, but they are few. First of all, this is the volume of the trunk, which is not much larger than a motorcyclist's cosmetic bag (421 liters).

It is simply impossible to cram a large baby carriage here. Even if you disassemble the chassis to the last screw, you still have to put the cradle on the front seat.

But seriously, does the owner of the GLA need it? This is a fast, comfortable and high-quality compact car for the driver and passengers (including those in the back row), and not a family bus.

In addition, its trunk is enough for a trip to the supermarket, the rear seats can be laid out on a flat floor for transporting long items, and competitors - the Audi A3 and BMW X1 - cannot boast of a significantly different level of capacity.

The second and final downside to a heavily stuffed test car is the price. 2.6 million rubles is a considerable amount for a compact crossover. But, firstly, you can refuse a good half of the options. Even in a simpler configuration, the GLA does not lose its charm and running data (the main thing is not to neglect the Off-Road package). And secondly, Mercedes is not just a car, but a sign of status, an integral feature of a lifestyle. And with this function, the GLA copes with all the money.
