Trolleybus trolza megapolis 5265 electric circuit. Autonomous trolleybus passed tests

05.11.2019

“Rain... Fog over the Neva. The lions wet their manes." And in the midst of this landscape... A bus? No, a trolleybus that can move without wires! He visited St. Petersburg, and I took part in his tests.

D hold on tight,” the driver advises, “now I’ll show you the dynamics of acceleration!” It is at the level of a passenger car - although we are talking about a trolleybus that was moving with the bars lowered!

Let's start with a quote from the reference book "Urban Transport and Traffic Management", published back in 1960. “Trolleybuses (a combination of a trolleybus with a diesel-electric bus) and trolleyaccubuses (where a battery is installed) can be used in the central regions of large cities where the suspension of a contact network is undesirable ... Working on the line mainly as a trolleybus, certain sections of the car will be able to pass with attracted pantograph rods, without requiring a contact wire. The disadvantages of this transport are as follows: the complexity of the power equipment and the high cost.

Since then, more than half a century has passed, and here it is, a trolleyaccubus, or rather, an autonomous trolleybus. Its name is Trolza-5265.02 Megapolis, and the car was brought to St. Petersburg on the eve of the World Cup: it is assumed that these will deliver passengers to the new stadium on Krestovsky Island. The trolleybus line has not been laid there, and it is not environmentally friendly to transport fans by buses, albeit modern ones: “zero exhaust” is in fashion.

But if the electric buses are just being tested, Trolza's "trolleyaccubuses" are already being produced. These were delivered to Tula (16 cars), Nalchik (10 copies) and even Argentina, for the cities of Cordoba and Rosario (7 and 12 pieces, respectively). And in total, by the end of 2017, 101 copies should be produced.

By the way, cars for Rosario were shipped quite recently, in January, and their price is known: about 350 thousand dollars, or more than 20 million rubles. The copy shown in St. Petersburg is somewhat cheaper - about 17 million rubles, which is comparable to the price of a LiAZ gas bus.

The interior resembles low-floor LiAZ buses. It even has room for a guide dog!

And, honestly, if such cars start to walk around St. Petersburg, I will gladly use them! The trolleybus is completely low-floor, and even with the “squatting” (kneeling) system. Wide doors with an active edge (these will not pinch your arms and legs) lead to a spacious and bright salon with an anti-slip floor. It contains diffused diode lighting, which turns on automatically, from the sensor. Double glazing, multi-zone climate control...

Near the wheelchair space there is not only a touch button with backlight and Braille, but also an intercom. There is even room for a guide dog!

The trolleybus is low-floor, but the rear entrance is intricate

And it's warm in the cabin. In a bus, every extra stove is a load on the generator, engine, and cooling system. A trolleybus is a different matter, there is nothing of this in it, only a 550/28 V converter. And since there is more than enough energy in the network, you can literally put a stove under every seat (and in theory, place sockets for charging mobile phones with tablets).

The driver's cabin resembles a pilot's cabin - or the cabin of a ship. The entire space of the front panel is strewn with buttons, the cabin is hung with gadgets, but the most impressive is the instrument panel. Since the machine is equipped with a CAN bus, information from an endless menu is displayed on the display - from the washer level in the tank to the instruction manual with all the electrical circuits.

Of course, there are video cameras and a GLONASS terminal, which is also not easy. Through satellite, the system sees the trolleybus on the route and automatically announces the stops!

It also connects the trolleybus with the fleet and makes it possible not only to remotely monitor the vehicle's systems, but also display messages for the driver - for example, that one of the turn signals is not working.

Management is elementary: I pressed the move selection button (forward or backward), pressed the right pedal (not gas, but the chassis) and drove off. Look through the heated windshield, check the situation on the huge mirrors (also heated and electrically adjustable) - and the steering wheels from stop to stop! Acceleration is limited by the "brains": the thrust of the electric motor is huge. The maximum speed is also limited to 60 km / h, and an electric retarder helps to slow down - an electrodynamic braking system. Moreover, energy recovery during braking is implemented here: about 20% of the energy spent is returned to the contact network.

Another advantage for the driver is the automatic lifting and lowering of the booms. In the right place, you can, by pressing a button, fold the “horns” - and the trolleybus will turn into an electric bus.

What we, in fact, did for photography near the Rostral columns of Vasilyevsky Island. It’s a pity, with the installation of current collectors on the wires, everything is not so simple: the “horns” can be automatically raised only where there are guides on the contact network. I saw them only in the trolleybus depot. So after our photographing, the driver acted in the old fashioned way: bypassed the trolleybus and “fastened the rigging” with ropes.

But autonomous running is really cool. The car is equipped with two Toshiba lithium-titanate battery packs and it is promised that the trolleybus can travel on them - without a contact network, at full load - 15 kilometers. Can you imagine how convenient it is to go around traffic jams and congestion? Yes, and network breaks are not terrible: all trolleybuses are standing, and this one is going to the delight of passengers!

By the way, Russian batteries from Rosnano-Liotech were installed on earlier copies, but now the property of the Novosibirsk Liotech plant is put up for sale ...

As for other technical features, both bridges are branded ZF. And suspension elements, tires and brake pads are unified with LiAZ buses - which is very convenient for parks where both electric and diesel vehicles operate.

It is also unusual that the electric motor, its control device, converter, compressor are of domestic production. The compressor, by the way, is screw - silent and vibration-free.

The main place in the rear compartment is occupied by the compressor (it is installed on the right)

In general, the trolleybus is very quiet, it's a pity, the power steering is buzzing. According to St. Petersburg experts, it would be more logical to install an electric amplifier: it is simpler, quieter and not afraid of frost.

They also noted other shortcomings. First, batteries weighing almost 700 kg, located on the roof, are not very good: they greatly increase the center of gravity and affect stability. Maybe it's worth sacrificing low-floor and installing batteries under the floor at the back, as is already done in Europe?

Traction batteries are located on the roof under the casing with the inscription "do not step"

Secondly, the rear corners of the body with built-in lighting are strangely made: they are plastic and glued to the base. What will it be like to fix them even after a small accident?

It is not clear why the vents are glued into the double-glazed windows: leaving the line with a non-working air conditioner is prohibited! Finally, there are no mentioned charging sockets in the cabin, which passengers would only be happy about.

Be that as it may, during the tests, Megapolis successfully covered eight kilometers “on batteries” along the route intended to deliver spectators to the stadium. And there is every chance that the fans will go to Krestovsky Island in just such cars - not cheap, but fast, quiet, environmentally friendly and even capable of moving without wires.

On February 22, a large-scale presentation of the TrolZa trolleybus with autonomous running took place, in which Vice Governor Igor Albin took part. The trolleybus with the guests of the presentation drove under its own power from the metro station "Petrogradskaya" to the new stadium on Krestovsky Island. A feature of the tested model is lithium-ion batteries, which provide the ability to move without being connected to the contact network. In autonomous mode, the trolleybus can travel about 10 kilometers. One of the tasks of such models is to ensure the transport accessibility of the new stadium on Krestovsky Island. In addition, the purchase of autonomous trolleybuses may become part of the Clear Sky program, which involves clearing part of the Petrogradsky district from contact networks. At the moment, Gorelectrotrans is working on about 10 options for routes on which it is supposed to use autonomous vehicles - in Primorsky, Krasnoselsky, Frunzensky districts. For example, it is proposed to extend it to the Prospekt Slavy station under construction without investing in a new contact network. The trolleybus TrolZa-5265.02 "Megapolis", which is being tested in our city, came from Moscow, in the capital they refused this model (the conditions for the contract were not satisfied). Now the possibility of purchasing is being considered in St. Petersburg, having specially arranged a "test by combat" for the innovative model in the winter season. At present "TrolZa" supplies trolleybuses of this model to Tula and Nalchik. TrolZa-5265.02 "Megapolis" is also exported to the Argentine cities of Cordoba and Rosario. Upon successful completion of the test trials, it is possible to conclude a contract for the supply of more than 100 such trolleybuses to St. Petersburg, and most of them should be delivered to the city this year. One of the limiting factors, of course, is the price - a trolleybus with autonomous running will cost the budget 60-70% more than, for example, a modern bus with a larger capacity. The idea of a gradual transition to electric transport with autonomous running is not new - in 2014, the models of the Vologda "Trans-Alpha" and the model of the older generation "TrolZa" were already tested in St. Petersburg.

Technical description

The first completely low-floor trolleybus developed by the plant in Engels. The body is two-axle, with three doors for the entry and exit of passengers. The outer skin of the roof is made of galvanized seamless steel sheet. The ovals of the roof, the cladding of the sides, the front and the back are made of fiberglass panels. The floor is low along the entire length of the cabin, there are no steps. Opposite the middle door there is a storage area for standing passengers, which can also accommodate a wheelchair or baby carriage. Trolleybuses are produced with a transistor control system and an asynchronous traction motor. They were not produced in a complete set with RKSU.

Based on this model, the articulated trolleybus Trolza-6206 "Megapolis" was developed.

In 2013, the Trolza-ST-5265A electric bus with dynamic recharging was developed at the Siberian Trolleybus plant in the body of Trolza-5265.00, with an autonomous run of 60 km [ ] . Since 2014, mass production of such electric buses has also begun at the Trolza plant itself, and two years later, production was restarted in new modifications.

Story

The first prototype was released in 2005 and was tested for some time with passengers in Saratov. Then he was transported to Moscow, where he received the number 7100 and in April was presented to the public at the Dorkomexpo-2006 exhibition held on Vasilyevsky Spusk. Since the beginning of May, he began working with passengers on route 63. The first copy had a non-standard color for Moscow - before repainting in 2009, it was completely orange.

In the period from 2006 to 2017, over 700 copies were produced, supplied to different cities of Russia, as well as to Ukraine and Argentina.

Serial production of the Trolza-5256.00 modification was completed in March 2017. Starting from 2016-2017, CJSC Trolza expanded the model range of the Megapolis family by launching into serial production trolleybuses with increased autonomous running, already defined as electric buses with dynamic recharging.

Trolza-5265.02

In 2016, the production of an upgraded version of Trolza-5265.02 "Megapolis-2" began. It differs from the classic "Megapolis" in a new rear mask (the front mask is left unchanged), longer and significantly more seats: now 34 seats are installed in the cabin. Thus, the main drawback of the classic Megapolis has been corrected in the new modification - too few seats in the cabin (22 pieces). This modification is a kind of electric bus with dynamic recharging and is equipped with lithium-titanate batteries placed along the roof. The autonomous course reserve is 15 km.

The first Trolza-5265.02 trolleybuses arrived in August 2016 in Simferopol. By June 2017, a total of 30 Trolza-5265.02 trolleybuses had been delivered for the city routes of Simferopol.

Until the end of 2016, the delivery of 12 Megapolis-2s to Moscow was also expected to work on the route of the Magistral network No. m1, which partially passes without wires of the contact network, however, due to repeated failure to meet the delivery deadline, the city refused to purchase this model. By August 2017, ten trolleybuses of this modification were delivered to St. Petersburg.

By the end of 2018, 94 trolleybuses of this modification were delivered to Sevastopol.

In February 2019, one vehicle was delivered to Krasnoyarsk. The production of the model ended due to a stop in production.

Trolza-5265.03

In December 2016, the production of an upgraded version of Trolza-5265.03 began, which is a type of electric bus with dynamic recharging. It differs from the Trolza-5265.02 modification by the absence of a solid rear window, in place of which an additional compartment with lithium-titanate batteries is installed. Autonomous range increased to 20 km. The cabin has 28 seats. By the beginning of 2018, 34 trolleybuses were delivered to Sevastopol, 27 to Simferopol, 2 to Berezniki and 12 to the Argentine city of Rosario. In addition, during 2017, one machine of this modification was tested in Engels, Cheboksary and Volgograd.

Trolza-5265.05

In the period from September to December 2016, serial production of a special modification of the TrolZa-5265.02 trolleybus for the Simferopol-Yalta intercity trolleybus route was carried out, which received the designation Trolza-5265.05. Like Trolza-5265.02, this modification is equipped with lithium-titanate batteries placed along the roof and has a cruising range of up to 15 km. At the request of the customer, 37 seats are installed in the salon. By the beginning of 2017, the delivery of all 40 trolleybuses for Simferopol and one to Sevastopol was completed.

Trolza-5265.08

In November 2017, mass production of an upgraded version of the Trolza-5265.08 electric bus with dynamic recharging began. From the modification of Trolza-5265.03 "Megapolis" differs in the use of lithium-iron-phosphate batteries, containing a larger charge capacity than lithium-titanate, but at the same time having a relatively large mass and a shorter service life. Batteries are located both along the roof and in the rear compartment in place of the rear window. The autonomous course reserve is 30 km, which is similar to the AKSM-32100D model. The cabin also has 28 seats. By August 2018, 80 vehicles of this modification were delivered to St. Petersburg, 1 vehicle was delivered to Khimki in November 2018, 1 vehicle was delivered to Kursk in January 2019, and three more vehicles were delivered in March.

Advantages

  • Modern design, for example, small rounded headlights, panoramic windshield (triplex);
  • Tinted double-glazed windows;
  • Completely low floor level in the cabin, no steps in the doors (convenient for the disabled);
  • EMU (electronic route indicators).

Disadvantages and their elimination

Cases in the operation of "Trolza-5265"

  • On February 15, 2008, in Moscow, on the territory of the 6th trolleybus fleet, a trolleybus with a flight number 6455 completely burned down. http://transphoto.ru/photo/47794/
  • January 28, 2015 in Moscow on the territory of the Novokosinsky bus and trolleybus depot, a trolleybus with a flight number 9121 burned down http://transphoto.ru/vehicle/226564/

Exploiting cities

Trolleybuses Trolza-5265 "Megapolis" can be found in many cities of Russia, as well as in Argentina and Ukraine. About 75% of all cars produced are operated in Moscow (30%), St. Petersburg (20%), Sevastopol (14%) and the Krymtrolleybus system (9%).

The plant reserves the right to make improvements to the design of the trolleybus.

On the trolleybus TROLZA-5265, instead of those described in this Operation Manual, other components and components of the trolleybus can be used that do not impair the performance of the trolleybus and meet the requirements of Technical Specifications TU 37,211.083-2005 for a trolleybus and a contract for the supply of trolleybuses.

The trolleybus is used in many cities of Russia and in some cities of Ukraine.

Description

The first completely low-floor trolleybus developed by the plant in Engels. The body is two-axle, with three doors for the entry and exit of passengers. The outer skin of the roof is made of galvanized seamless steel sheet. The ovals of the roof, the cladding of the sides, the front and the back are made of fiberglass panels. The floor is low along the entire length of the cabin, there are no steps. Opposite the middle door there is a storage area for standing passengers, which can also accommodate a wheelchair or baby carriage. Trolleybuses are produced with a transistor control system and an asynchronous traction motor; it is also possible to complete with RKSU.

Based on this model, the articulated trolleybus Trolza-6206 "Megapolis" was developed. At the plant "Siberian trolleybus" on the body of Trolza-5265 "Megapolis" a trolleybus with autonomous running up to 60 km TrolZa-ST-5265A was developed.

Delivery history

The first prototype was released in 2005 and was tested for some time with passengers in Saratov. Then he was transported to Moscow, where he received the number 7100 and in April was presented to the public at the Dorkomexpo-2006 exhibition held on Vasilyevsky Spusk. Since the beginning of May, he began to work with passengers on route 63. The first copy had a non-standard color for Moscow - before repainting in 2009, it was completely orange.

At the end of 2006, Moscow ordered a batch of 15 trolleybuses. In October 2009 there were already 90 of them and they worked in all parks except the 8th.

Flaws

In the 4th trolleybus fleet of Moscow, the first two cars that arrived there were installed pipe structures to protect the windshield in case of collisions with people almost immediately after their appearance.

On the basis of TrolZa-5265 "Megapolis", an ecobus (hybrid bus with electric transmission) TrolZa-5250 was made. This is the first and unique case of building a bus on a trolleybus chassis, before that trolleybuses were made on a bus chassis. The main feature is the use of a gas microturbine as a drive for an electric generator. The first four copies arrived in Krasnodar, where they were tested. At the moment, all four Krasnodar copies are not working, two of them have been sent to the factory for restoration.

An excerpt characterizing Trolza-5265 "Megapolis"

- Look, Anisyushka, that the strings are intact, or something, on the guitar? I haven’t taken it in my hands for a long time - it’s a pure march! abandoned.
Anisya Fyodorovna willingly went with her light step to carry out her master's order and brought the guitar.
Uncle, without looking at anyone, blew off the dust, tapped the lid of the guitar with his bony fingers, tuned it, and straightened himself in his chair. He took (with a somewhat theatrical gesture, leaving the elbow of his left hand) the guitar above the neck and winking at Anisya Fyodorovna, he began not the Lady, but took one sonorous, clear chord, and measured, calmly, but firmly began to finish the well-known song at a very quiet pace: and ice pavement. At the same time, in time with that sedate joy (the same that Anisya Fyodorovna's whole being breathed), the motive of the song sang in the soul of Nikolai and Natasha. Anisya Fyodorovna blushed and, covering herself with a handkerchief, laughingly left the room. Uncle continued to cleanly, diligently and energetically firmly finish the song, looking with a changed inspired look at the place from which Anisya Fyodorovna had left. A little bit something laughed in his face on one side under a gray mustache, especially laughed when the song dispersed further, the beat accelerated and something came off in places of busts.
- Charm, charm, uncle; more, more, ”Natasha shouted as soon as he finished. She jumped up from her seat, hugged her uncle and kissed him. - Nikolenka, Nikolenka! she said, looking round at her brother and as if asking him: what is this?
Nikolai also really liked the uncle's game. Uncle played the song a second time. The smiling face of Anisya Fyodorovna appeared again at the door, and from behind her there were still other faces ... "Behind the cold key, she shouts: wait a girl!" my uncle played, again made a deft enumeration, tore it off and moved his shoulders.
“Well, well, my dear, uncle,” Natasha groaned in such an imploring voice, as if her life depended on it. Uncle stood up and as if there were two people in him - one of them smiled seriously at the merry fellow, and the merry fellow made a naive and neat trick before the dance.
- Well, niece! - shouted the uncle, waving his hand to Natasha, tearing off the chord.
Natasha threw off the handkerchief that was thrown over her, ran ahead of her uncle and, propping her hands on her hips, made a movement with her shoulders and stood.
Where, how, when she sucked into herself from that Russian air that she breathed - this countess, brought up by a French emigrant, this spirit, where did she get these techniques that pas de chale should long ago have been forced out? But these spirits and methods were the same, inimitable, not studied, Russian, which her uncle expected from her. As soon as she stood up, she smiled solemnly, proudly and cunningly cheerfully, the first fear that gripped Nikolai and all those present, the fear that she would do something wrong, passed and they were already admiring her.
She did the same thing and did it so exactly, so quite exactly, that Anisya Fyodorovna, who immediately handed her the handkerchief necessary for her work, burst into tears through laughter, looking at this thin, graceful, so alien to her, educated countess in silk and velvet. who knew how to understand everything that was in Anisya, and in Anisya's father, and in her aunt, and in her mother, and in every Russian person.
“Well, the countess is a pure march,” said the uncle, laughing joyfully, having finished the dance. - Oh yes, niece! If only you could choose a good fellow for you, - march is a clean business!
“Already chosen,” said Nikolai smiling.
- ABOUT? said the uncle in surprise, looking inquiringly at Natasha. Natasha nodded her head in the affirmative with a happy smile.
- Another one! - she said. But as soon as she said this, another, new line of thoughts and feelings arose in her. What did Nikolai's smile mean when he said: "already chosen"? Is he happy about it or not? He seems to think that my Bolkonsky would not have approved, would not have understood our joy. No, he would understand. Where is he now? thought Natasha, and her face suddenly became serious. But it only lasted for one second. “Don’t think about it, don’t dare to think about it,” she said to herself, and smiling, she sat down again with her uncle, asking him to play something else.
Uncle played another song and a waltz; then, after a pause, he cleared his throat and sang his favorite hunting song.
Like powder from the evening
Turned out good...
Uncle sang the way the people sing, with that complete and naive conviction that in a song all meaning lies only in the words, that the melody comes by itself and that there is no separate melody, but that the melody is only for the warehouse. Because of this, this unconscious tune, like the song of a bird, was unusually good with my uncle. Natasha was delighted with her uncle's singing. She decided that she would no longer study the harp, but would only play the guitar. She asked her uncle for a guitar and immediately picked up the chords for the song.
At ten o'clock a line, a droshky, and three riders arrived for Natasha and Petya, sent to look for them. The count and countess did not know where they were and were very worried, as the messenger said.
Petya was taken down and laid like a dead body in a ruler; Natasha and Nikolai got into the droshky. Uncle wrapped up Natasha and said goodbye to her with a completely new tenderness. He escorted them on foot to the bridge, which had to be bypassed into a ford, and ordered the hunters to go ahead with lanterns.
“Farewell, dear niece,” his voice shouted out of the darkness, not the one that Natasha had known before, but the one that sang: “Like powder since the evening.”
The village we passed had red lights and a cheerful smell of smoke.
- What a charm this uncle is! - said Natasha, when they drove out onto the main road.
“Yes,” said Nikolai. - Are you cold?
- No, I'm fine, fine. I feel so good, - Natasha even said with bewilderment. They were silent for a long time.
The night was dark and damp. The horses were not visible; all you could hear was their paddling through the invisible mud.
What was going on in this childish, receptive soul, which so greedily caught and assimilated all the most diverse impressions of life? How did it fit into her? But she was very happy. Already approaching the house, she suddenly sang the motive of the song: “Like powder from the evening,” a motive that she caught all the way and finally caught.
- Got it? Nikolai said.
“What are you thinking now, Nikolenka?” Natasha asked. They liked to ask each other that.
- I? - said Nikolai remembering; - you see, at first I thought that Rugai, the red male, looked like an uncle and that if he were a man, he would still keep the uncle with him, if not for the jump, then for the frets, he would keep everything. How good he is, uncle! Is not it? - Well, what about you?
- I? Hold on, hold on. Yes, at first I thought that here we are going and we think that we are going home, and God knows where we are going in this darkness and suddenly we will arrive and see that we are not in Otradnoye, but in a magical kingdom. And then I thought… No, nothing more.
“I know, I was thinking about him right,” Nikolai said smiling, as Natasha recognized by the sound of his voice.
“No,” answered Natasha, although at the same time she really thought both about Prince Andrei and about how he would like his uncle. “And I also repeat everything, I repeat all the way: how Anisyushka performed well, well ...” said Natasha. And Nikolai heard her sonorous, causeless, happy laughter.
“You know,” she said suddenly, “I know that I will never be as happy and calm as I am now.
“That’s nonsense, nonsense, lies,” said Nikolai and thought: “What a charm this Natasha of mine is! I don't have another friend like him and never will. Why should she get married, everyone would go with her!
“What a charm this Nikolai is!” thought Natasha. - A! there’s still a fire in the living room,” she said, pointing to the windows of the house, which shone beautifully in the wet, velvet darkness of the night.

Count Ilya Andreich resigned from the leaders because this post was too expensive. But things didn't get better for him. Often Natasha and Nikolai saw the secret, restless negotiations of their parents and heard rumors about the sale of a rich, ancestral Rostov house and a suburban one. Without leadership, it was not necessary to have such a large reception, and the life of congratulations was conducted more quietly than in previous years; but the huge house and outbuilding were still full of people, more people were still sitting at the table. All of these were people who had settled down in the house, almost members of the family, or those who, it seemed, had to live in the count's house. These were Dimmler - a musician with his wife, Yogel - a dance teacher with his family, the old lady Belova, who lived in the house, and many others: Petya's teachers, the former governess of young ladies and just people who were better or more profitable to live with the count than at home. There was no such big visit as before, but the course of life was the same, without which the count and countess could not imagine life. There was the same, still increased by Nikolai, hunting, the same 50 horses and 15 coachmen at the stable, the same expensive gifts on name days, and solemn dinners for the whole county; the same count whists and bostons, behind which he, dissolving cards for everyone to see, allowed himself to be beaten every day by hundreds of neighbors who looked at the right to play the game of Count Ilya Andreich as the most profitable lease.
The count, as if in huge snares, went about his affairs, trying not to believe that he was entangled, and with each step he became more and more entangled and feeling himself unable either to break the nets that entangled him, or carefully, patiently begin to unravel them. The Countess, with a loving heart, felt that her children were going bankrupt, that the count was not to blame, that he could not be different from what he was, that he himself was suffering (although he hides it) from the consciousness of his and his children's ruin, and was looking for means to help the cause. From her feminine point of view, there was only one way - the marriage of Nicholas to a rich bride. She felt that this was the last hope, and that if Nikolai refused the party that she had found for him, she would have to say goodbye forever to the opportunity to improve things. This party was Julie Karagina, the daughter of a beautiful, virtuous mother and father, known from childhood to Rostov, and now a rich bride on the occasion of the death of the last of her brothers.
The Countess wrote directly to Karagina in Moscow, offering her the marriage of her daughter to her son, and received a favorable response from her. Karagina replied that she, for her part, agreed that everything would depend on the inclination of her daughter. Karagina invited Nikolai to come to Moscow.
Several times, with tears in her eyes, the Countess told her son that now that both her daughters were added, her only wish was to see him married. She said that she would lie down in the coffin calm, if that were the case. Then she said that she had a beautiful girl in mind and elicited his opinion about marriage.
In other conversations, she praised Julie and advised Nikolai to go to Moscow for the holidays to have fun. Nikolai guessed what his mother's conversations were leading to, and in one of these conversations he called her to complete frankness. She told him that all the hope of getting things right was now based on his marriage to Karagina.
- Well, if I loved a girl without a fortune, would you really demand, maman, that I sacrifice feeling and honor for a fortune? he asked his mother, not understanding the cruelty of his question and wishing only to show his nobility.
“No, you didn’t understand me,” said the mother, not knowing how to justify herself. “You didn’t understand me, Nikolinka. I wish you happiness,” she added, and felt that she was telling a lie, that she was confused. She started crying.
“Mamma, don’t cry, but just tell me that you want it, and you know that I will give my whole life, I will give everything so that you are calm,” said Nikolai. I will sacrifice everything for you, even my feelings.
But the countess did not want to put the question that way: she did not want a sacrifice from her son, she herself would like to sacrifice to him.
“No, you didn’t understand me, let’s not talk,” she said, wiping her tears.
“Yes, maybe I love the poor girl,” Nikolai said to himself, well, should I sacrifice feeling and honor for the state? I wonder how my mother could tell me this. Because Sonya is poor, I can’t love her, he thought, I can’t respond to her faithful, devoted love. And I'll probably be happier with her than with some kind of Julie doll. I can always sacrifice my feelings for the good of my relatives, he said to himself, but I cannot command my feelings. If I love Sonya, then my feeling is stronger and higher than anything for me.
Nikolai did not go to Moscow, the countess did not resume the conversation with him about marriage, and with sadness, and sometimes with anger, she saw signs of an ever greater rapprochement between her son and the dowry Sonya. She reproached herself for that, but she could not help but grumble, find fault with Sonya, often stopping her for no reason, calling her "you" and "my dear." Most of all, the kind countess was angry with Sonya because this poor, black-eyed niece was so meek, so kind, so devotedly grateful to her benefactors, and so faithfully, unfailingly, selflessly in love with Nikolai, that it was impossible to reproach her for anything. .
Nikolai spent his vacation with his relatives. The 4th letter was received from the fiancé Prince Andrei, from Rome, in which he wrote that he would have been on his way to Russia long ago if his wound had not suddenly opened in a warm climate, which makes him postpone his departure until the beginning of next year . Natasha was just as in love with her fiancé, just as reassured by this love, and just as receptive to all the joys of life; but at the end of the fourth month of separation from him, moments of sadness began to come over her, against which she could not fight. She felt sorry for herself, it was a pity that she had been lost for nothing, for no one, all this time, during which she felt herself so capable of loving and being loved.
It was sad in the Rostovs' house.

Christmas time came, and apart from the ceremonial mass, except for the solemn and boring congratulations from neighbors and courtyards, except for all the new dresses put on, there was nothing special commemorating Christmas time, but in a windless 20 degree frost, in a bright blinding sun during the day and in starry winter light at night, the need for some kind of commemoration of this time was felt.
On the third day of the holiday, after dinner, all the households went to their rooms. It was the most boring time of the day. Nikolai, who went to the neighbors in the morning, fell asleep in the sofa room. The old count was resting in his study. Sonya was sitting at a round table in the living room, sketching a pattern. The Countess laid out the cards. Nastasya Ivanovna, with a sad face, was sitting at the window with two old women. Natasha entered the room, went up to Sonya, looked at what she was doing, then went up to her mother and silently stopped.
- Why are you walking around like a homeless person? her mother told her. - What do you want?
“I need him ... now, this minute I need him,” said Natasha, her eyes shining and not smiling. The Countess lifted her head and looked at her daughter intently.
- Don't look at me. Mom, don't look, I'll cry now.
“Sit down, sit with me,” said the countess.
Mom, I need it. Why am I disappearing like this, mother? ... - Her voice broke off, tears splashed from her eyes, and to hide them, she quickly turned around and left the room. She went out into the sofa room, stood for a moment, thought, and went into the girls' room. There, an old maid grumbled at a young girl, out of breath, who had come running from the cold from the servants.
