Bugatti Veyron, top speed. Bugatti Veyron - a triumph of engineering

Bugatti Veyron - the most fast car(until 2013) serial production by Bugatti, which is part of the Volkswagen auto concern. The title of the car was obtained under clarified circumstances.

By car, the speed limiter was turned off, which worked at a speed mark of 415 km / h. Recall that in 2010 Veyron set a record of 431 km/h. The entire range of Bugatti.

Car history

It all started back in 1999, when the EB 18/3 “Chiron” model was announced at the Tokyo Motor Show. She had a 6.3 liter engine with a capacity of 555 horses. But the head of VW said that the car did not live up to expectations, because the emphasis was placed more on luxury than on speed. In 2001, at an exhibition in Geneva, the world was able to see a sample of today's Bugatti EB 16/4 Veyron.

EB 18/3 Chiron

It was a completely different matter. By and large, everything has undergone changes, from the engine to the body design. The start of production was scheduled for 2003. But due to a change in the management team of the company, this event was postponed until 2005. Then the first Bugatti Veyron EB16 / 4 appeared on the market. Their release ended in 2011.

Veyron 16/4

From 2005 to 2011, enough a large number of special and exclusive model variations. Among these variations was the Veyron Grand Sport with open top. This car has even been upgraded.

In 2010, the last upgrade of the standard model appeared, and more specifically the Veyron Super Sport. Her hallmarks there were more dynamism and some changes in the exterior. The engine was also improved - it began to develop power up to 1200 hp. With. Production ended in 2014.

Veyron Super Sport

The history of Veyron began at the dawn of the twenty-first century, when the management of VW decided to create the fastest in the world production car. This fast vehicle could be seen on sale in 2006. By that time, the car was able to make a splash with only one of its exterior.

In order to achieve the highest speeds and normal behavior of the car after a speed mark of 300 kilometers per hour, they decided to work out the aerodynamic component of the car to the smallest detail. As a result, each line and deflection has a functional value.

Exterior

Despite all this, it was decided not to specifically reduce the aerodynamic drag indicators to the lowest values. During a non-activated active aerodynamics system, this value is 0.35.

When the vehicle reaches and exceeds 220 kilometers per hour, the spoiler mounted at the rear of the vehicle rises into combat mode, which reduces the aerodynamic index to 0.42, but all this allows for a significant improvement in handling, along with downforce to the rear axle.

Although during reaching the speed limit, the spoiler sports car not as much and puts pressure on the rear axle, resulting in only 54 kilograms of downforce.

As a comparison, at a speed of 220-350 kilometers per hour, the downforce is about 350 kilograms.

During intensive braking, the wing is installed in a special “rack”, at which the drag is reduced to 0.68, which in turn provides extremely fruitful braking.

The large weight of the car is due to the rather heavy power unit and the corresponding cooling system, which is designed so that, despite extreme loads, the engine together with the gearbox can operate in the optimal temperature range.

Materials used

Such flights of engineering thoughts can be seen almost everywhere. The body part itself was made using a composite material, as well as aluminum. It has incredible rigidity and torsion resistance.

This value is equal to 6,000 Nm/deg. In general, the car is quite wide, but its dimensions were able to smooth out with the help of a perfectly adjusted steering. It's pretty easy to guess that if the car is special, then the tires must be special. The original tires have non-standard sizes.

The appearance of a two-door will not leave anyone indifferent - the car is not a standard of beauty, however, it can almost instantly attract enthusiastic looks and evoke a storm of emotions. The hypercar has a wide, squat body that rests on wide 20-inch rims.

All this allows the French model to boast not only of its muscular dispositions and smooth lines, but also of aerodynamic, precisely adjusted forms.

Veyron is able to reduce the clearance automatically when the ride height is already 89 millimeters. The body components of the model are made of super lightweight and durable components - carbon fiber and lightweight aluminum alloy.

But, despite this, the Frenchman is one of the heavyweights in his own segment - the total weight is 1,880 kilograms. For example, the McLaren P1 weighs only 1,400 kilograms.

Behind the driver's cab, experts installed a pair of air intakes that protrude 60 millimeters above the surface of the body. There is no hood, as such, at all - the layout of the engine compartment is very dense, because of this, the design staff decided to leave the power unit open in order to achieve improved air circulation.

Interior

If we talk about the interior of the Bugatti Veyron, then it also has significant differences from other hypercars, for example,. This is because the scope French two-door- not racing tracks, but standard roads.

Based on this, it is envisaged that the driver should feel extremely comfortable inside the car. The interior of the car is not only stylish, extremely functional, but, in addition, has the maximum luxury that money can buy.

All materials are of the highest quality, exquisite design, as well as a large number of stylish accessories and details in the cabin. There are comfortable genuine leather seats, an elegant cockpit, carbon fiber and aluminum trim.

Veyron Super Sport interior

Climate control, on-board computer, adaptive cruise control and other various options are available in any configuration. However, in general, each performance is fundamentally individual. This includes the color of the body, interior, finishing materials, or configuration options - all this fundamentally depends on the requirements of the buyer.

Dashboard

The instrument panel looks very unique, on which essential element serves as a dial marked from 0 to 1000. Based on the idea of \u200b\u200bexperts, it is required to display information that displays what kind of power in given time used by the pilot.

Dashboard

No less interesting is the fact that Veyron can be ordered in some variations from the factory. One of them provides for encrusting the speedometer with 1-carat diamonds. Each diamond has a 16-sided shape, representing a 16-cylinder powertrain.

The interior of the Bugatti Veyron is stuffed with rigor, solidity and conciseness, but, based on modern standards, the interior of the model looks a little boring, because there are no touch displays or other gadgets. But here you can see perfect combination shapes and lines that are mired in luxury and impeccable quality.

The presence of classic pointers, where the tachometer plays a major role, a beautiful three-spoke steering wheel, a sloping console on which a stylish analog clock has settled, and deflectors are striking. ventilation system, steel blocks sound system and climate control.

Salon Veyron Super Sport

Engineers tried to assemble the interior so that you would not find anything inside that would distract you from driving at high speed. Needless to say, they succeeded. Inside, you can see aluminum, durable leather and varnished carbon fiber.

Salon Bugatti Veyron Super Sport has a pair of bucket seats, where there is pronounced lateral support. They have a carbon fiber frame and mechanical adjustments.

Veyron Super Sport driver's seat

If you have hand luggage, then for her in front of the cabin it was provided luggage compartment, which, in principle, is more formal, because it will be possible to place only one sports bag there, and then, not of any size.

Specifications

Engine

Taking into account the monster located "under the hood" of the Bugatti Veyron, you clearly understand why the engineers allowed such a high drag coefficient. Rear end The car has an eight-liter sixteen-cylinder V-engine own design, which is equipped with four turbochargers.

Based on the statements of the automaker, such a motor produces 1,001 horsepower and a torque of 1,250 Nm. However, in reality, any power unit produces 20-40 “horses” more power than was stated. The force generated by this powerful engine, is transmitted to all 4 wheels, since the machine has all-wheel drive system.

Bugatti Veyron engine

If you fill the car with not the 98th, but the 95th gasoline, the power unit will be able to develop only about 850 “horses”. It consumes the engine in a combined cycle of about 24.1 liters for every 100 kilometers.

To maintain a comfortable temperature regime for the power unit, the cooling system has 10 radiators, and the hood, as mentioned earlier, is not provided. The cooling system cools not only the engine, but also the gearbox, which operates in extreme conditions.

The first hundred is reached in a unique 2.5 seconds, and the maximum speed of the Bugatti Veyron reaches 407 kilometers per hour. To accelerate to a speed mark of 200 and 300 km / h, it takes 7.3 and 16.7 seconds, respectively.

Transmission

The role of the transmission was decided to be assigned to the seven-speed DSG robotic box from Volkswagen AG with a pair of clutches. One clutch operates at even speeds, the other at odd.

A similar design makes it possible to prepare the speed for switching in advance and reduce the response time to 15 milliseconds. Gear shifting is carried out using a torque converter, however, at the request of the driver, you can switch to manual mode shifting gears with paddle shifters.

Suspension

To increase speed, German car decided to equip it with a customizable suspension, where the ride height changes. During typical driving, the ground clearance is 125 millimeters, which makes it possible to comfortably drive the car in the city and not be afraid that you can hit any obstacle on the road.

Suspension Bugatti Veyron

As soon as the supercar accelerates to 220 kilometers per hour, the shock absorbers will begin to rise, and the ground clearance will drop to 80 millimeters at the front and 95 millimeters at the rear. During the inclusion of the "Top Speed" mode, the clearance will be lower by another 15 millimeters.

The pendant itself is great. It's stiff and handles corners well, and overall has excellent handling. Front and rear is a two-lever independent spring suspension.

Brake system

The car is equipped with unique carbon-ceramic ventilated brake discs. There is a wing available.

Brake system Bugatti Veyron

All tires are handmade from several layers of rubber. The time to a complete stop in this case is only 10 seconds. Eight-piston brake calipers are used.

Veyron Nocturne 2009. It has a black body with polished aluminum inserts, which goes well with the white interior trim. dashboard made of black magnesium, and the center console was covered with platinum. We made 5 cars at a price of 107,250,000 rubles.

Veyron Grand Sport 2009. The option is a roadster body, which has a removable roof made of rigid polycarbonate or a soft fabric awning. A total of 150 copies were produced. Basic versions cost from 91,000,000 rubles. In addition to the standard versions of the machines, they also released about 20 special versions, which differ in original design, body color and interior.

At the onset of 2010, a “charged” coupe Bugatti Veyron Super Sport was released, and 2 years later, the Veyron Sport Vitesse roadster. Both options have significant changes in the power plant, so their technical component differs from the serial version.

Safety

The braking system, together with ABS, reacts very quickly when the wheel stops spinning. In addition, they are able to easily adapt to the pressure to start spinning again. This allows you to increase the controllability of the machine during braking.

The anti-roll bar responds quickly to the tolerance limit and in automatic mode reduces the power of the powertrain, or offers quick braking to reduce the risk of loss of control.

In addition, the sports version has several airbags for the driver and passenger, specially designed so as not to injure the head if they deploy. On top of that, the seat belts have automatic tensioners which, in combination with the AirBag, offer the perfect variation in crash protection.

It is clear that the developers of the machine scrupulously approached the protection of the model itself from theft. The French vehicle will only be able to start when the original chip key is used.

The latter, in turn, is produced personally at the enterprise for each car, therefore it will be extremely difficult for someone other than the owner of the chip key to start the engine.

Summing up

Although the Bugatti hypercar now does not have the title of the fastest in the world, it still remains the most famous and recognizable both live and in the photo. Who hasn't seen or at least heard of this car? She certainly left a bright mark in the history of mechanical engineering.

In general, this hypercar will suit wealthy people who have already accumulated good capital. After all, the question is not only in the acquisition of this vehicle but also in its maintenance, which is very expensive.

Such a car is not so common, because it is mainly made to order. There aren't many good roads to drive a Bugatti Veyron.

The car itself is made very high quality. Power point and asks to disperse her to full power. Super coupe design always attracts attention. The dynamic performance simply makes it one of the fastest production cars in the world.

But the model is not suitable for driving in the city, as fuel consumption is simply sky-high, and the luggage compartment is very modest.

Bugatti Veyron is suitable for short trips to relax. Only a couple of people can fit inside, but they will not feel any discomfort due to the power unit installed behind them.

Everything was thought out to the smallest detail. Despite the rather “modest” panel, everything is intuitively simple, clear, and all controls are easy to reach. The basic equipment has all the necessary functions, which, in principle, is expected from a car with such a price tag.

It's nice that in such a fast two-door, the engineering staff did not forget about ensuring the proper level of security. The Bugatti Veyron hypercar will forever remain in history, in museums and in the hearts of many motorists in the world.

Video review of Bugatti Veyron

This car was doomed to popularity and universal recognition from the very beginning of its existence. When creating it, the engineers managed to accomplish the impossible and revolutionize the genre - to achieve breathtaking power and maximum speed. And, even after a decade, the hypercar under the French brand is still relevant, and its name will forever fit into the history of the global automotive industry.

Story

The development of the Bugatti Veyron began back in 1999. At the same time, the concept of the same name was first shown to the public as part of an exhibition in Tokyo. At the same time, the supercar entered the market in 2005.

It is worth noting that in the late 90s of the XX century, the French brand became the property of Volkswagen Group, who thoroughly took up the debut model of his new "family member" and did not spare huge funds for it.

In turn, many specialists from the automotive (and not only) industry were involved in the creation of the Bugatti Veyron. The engineers had different tasks, but they were all equally difficult and required considerable effort. However, the result of the work was more than satisfactory.

Between 2005 and 2015, 450 copies of this hypercar were produced. At the same time, the assembly of each of them was carried out manually.

In total, two body variations of the model were available:

  • Coupe.
  • Coupe-cabriolet (Tapra Grand Sport).

Specifications

The Bugatti Veyron is based on a carbon fiber monocoque, which weighs 110 kilograms. Most of body parts And front subframe aircraft grade aluminum while the rear subframe is steel and the engine cover and intercoolers are magnesium.

As for the gasoline power unit, it has a W-shaped configuration of 16 cylinders and a working volume of eight liters, as well as a turbocharging system. Many parts and components of the engine are made of titanium. The exhaust system also consists of it.

In total there are two power modifications Veyron:

  • Standard (Stock). Produces 1001 horsepower.
  • Super sport. Power is equal to 1200 forces.

It is worth noting that the technical version of the "Super Sport" is somewhat different from the standard variation. Namely, the engine is equipped with more efficient turbochargers, intercoolers and a modified exhaust system. The suspension received new shock absorbers, stiffer anti-roll bars and springs.

Both versions send their power to the four drive wheels via a seven-speed preselective transmission.

Brief information:

Market price

Note: The price tag for this hypercar is as of the end of 2016 - the first quarter of 2017. At the same time, many are interested in how much the car originally cost - its starting cost was one million euros.

User opinion

On the Internet you can find several reviews of the owners of the Bugatti Veyron. One of them will be shown below.

Bought this car after watching a video of the top speed record that the Veyron set. I don’t really like supercars because of their low practicality and comfort, but this car surprised me with a good smooth ride, as well as ease of control in everyday use.

Dynamics also became a revelation. However, fuel consumption of more than 40 liters with a fairly leisurely ride will become a serious obstacle to out-of-town travel. At the same time, Bugatti is most suitable for the track, because there is simply nowhere to realize its potential in the city.

No reliability issues were noted. But if you drive often over 300 kilometers per hour, then the wear of exclusive Michelin tires increases greatly. And in order to replace them with new ones, it is necessary special equipment and qualified specialists, who simply do not exist in Russia ...

Test Drive

aviation motifs

The Bugatti Veyron looks like a combat fighter. He is just as formidable and swift, with streamlined forms. Attention is drawn to the huge air intakes on top engine compartment, narrowed optics of head lighting, pronounced "gills" of the rear wings and a large exhaust pipe.

Tribute to traditions

The interior of the hypercar is decorated in a retro style. On the front panel there are many aluminum inserts, as well as genuine leather Brown and tree.

At the head dashboard there is a tachometer marked up to eight thousand revolutions. Whereas the speedometer has a section in the lower right corner. In addition to the main readings, there is also an engine power indicator and coolant temperature. The three-spoke steering wheel is devoid of keys and only transmission shift paddles can be found on it.

The driver's bucket seat with combined upholstery (leather + alcantara) provides a clear fixation of the body. However, the lateral support rollers may seem cramped for a large person.

Start key...

Bugatti Veyron, regardless of modification, delivers a lot of sensations from acceleration. G-forces from accelerating are very significant, so getting used to acceleration is difficult even after a long time of car ownership.

The engine has an avalanche-like thrust already from idle and makes it extremely careful to handle the accelerator pedal. Otherwise, there is a great risk of exceeding the multiple available speed mode and create an emergency on the road.

Handling, oddly enough, requires less skill than controlling the capabilities of the motor. The hypercar follows the wheel very obediently, without frightening with sharp demolitions rear axle. At the same time, the bagel itself has an exemplary feedback, and also responsive in the zero zone.

Ride comfort has not fallen victim to handling. The car smoothly passes small irregularities, without annoying shaking, however, pronounced bumps can be given to the body with tangible shocks ...

Photos Bugatti Veyron:

The fastest car in the world is recognized as the Bugatti Veyron (engine size - 8 liters, power - 1001 hp), and James May was given the nickname "Captain Snail". Apparently, opposites do attract. Bugatti Veyron, whose maximum speed reaches 230 km / h, is considered the most fast car sports class.

At the first meeting, this car almost struck me on the spot (in the literal sense). I was standing in the small courtyard of the hotel, in the shade, when I heard the German "schnell" along with a request to move away. A Bugatti Veyron drove into the yard, and I could be the first person in history to be hit by a car with over 1000 hp. He would be even cooler than the guy who died under the wheels of Stevenson's engine.

When the light came on I was amazed by it appearance. It was not at all a funny car, not a clown, as it might seem. After all, when I heard that they were going to produce a hypercar, and which does not mind any money, I got ready to see the air intakes with slots and a pile of unfitted carbon fiber. But I was wrong: in front of me stood a muscular stylish car with nice shapes. Of course, the false radiator grille, the motor located behind and outside are puzzling - like a Morgan with three wheels. But you need to keep in mind that this is not a car for pensioners. But still it cannot be said that he is rich in excesses. On the contrary, some of his relatives look less modest. Glossy two-tone body car corresponds to the status of "the fastest and comfortable car on the planet".

The salon is truly perfect.

Let there be some excess with luxury, but at least human materials were used, no space. Fingers easily scour the panel, finding the right buttons without difficulty. And the fifth point at this time finds support in the form of a narrow sports seat(which, by the way, if desired, can be replaced with a wide luxurious chair - you just have to order).

When it comes to Veyron, three figures are indispensable: 1,000,000 euros, 1,000 hp, 400 km/h. If you do not consider the price / quality ratio, then this car will win in all three categories.

1,000,000 euros, or 1,200,000 dollars, will have to be paid by someone who has enough space in the garage to put such a car. Veyron is planned to be produced in small batches, on order. At the Wolfsburg plant, they say that to profit from this Volkswagen models doesn't intend to.

1000 HP - also not an extraordinary indicator. Aircraft engines had such power even before the war. Another thing - to achieve it, you had to burn a lot of fuel. Get it on car engine 8 liters is not easy (for example, the Rolls-Royce Merlin with a power of 1030 hp had a V12 engine with a volume of 27 liters).

Another issue is engine cooling. After all, Veyron can rush along the track at a speed of 300 km / h, or maybe stand in the sample. We managed to solve this problem on the sixth trial copy, when the number of radiators increased to 10. They were placed under the hood, which means that there was no room left for luggage. But the Veyron isn't made for shopping, it's for driving.

Another feature of the car with 1000 hp. is that an error of 5% when measuring engine power gives an error of 50 hp. It becomes noticeable. The customer gets a minimum of 1001 hp and a maximum of as much as 1050 hp.

For those who don't know, power is the work done per unit of time. A 1000 hp - This maximum power which is possible. On the panel next to the tachometer is a power indicator (it is marked in hundreds). The biggest value that I have seen in my driving practice is the number 900, which lasted half a second. Torque has the ability to do work, and power is only a product of it and the speed of rotation of the crankshaft. The achievement of 1250 Nm is much more significant, but it did not catch the fancy of a society that worships round numbers.

And yet the main figure of these three is 400 km / h. It's no joke - the electronic limiter works at 407.5 km / h, because the developers were confident that at this speed the car would remain under control. The greatness of Volkswagen's achievements is especially striking when you remember that the Lupo with a 1 liter engine accelerates to 150 km / h at 50 hp, and the Porsche 911S reaches a speed of 300 km / h with 355 hp.

This is explained by the fact that aerodynamic drag increases with the square of the speed. And the power that goes to overcome this resistance increases already cubed. Or, to put it simply, every km / h, approaching the figure of 400, requires 8 "horses". Even the “extra” 7.5 km / h that we managed to fix eat up the power of a small hatchback. Moreover, it was necessary to squeeze out such a force only from the motor, because there was no additional unit.

Again, everything is scientific explanation. In its usual configuration, the Bugatti Veyron can reach a maximum speed of up to 370 km / h, while the downforce is 350 kg. And in order to achieve downforce (however, as well as lifting), you need to sacrifice aerodynamics.

To ride with Vmax, you need to insert special key(second). At the same time, they change computer programs, which control the diffusers located under the bottom and the rear wing. Downforce is reduced to 50 kg. Bugatti engineers say that you can only drive this way on roads without turns.

Problems arise even here. Specially designed Michelin tires (wider than on the Countach: 365 mm at the rear) have low resistance rolling and 15 km / h closer to the maximum speed. But they are not able to withstand such a speed for a long time (no more than 15 minutes). Then they collapse, which is a pity, because they are not cheap.

Another point: at top speed, the Bugatti Veyron has a liter per kilometer fuel consumption, so if the tires don't fall apart sooner, you'll come to a stop very soon with empty tank. Calculate now how much you can drive at a speed of 407.5 km / h in 15 minutes. It turns out 102 km. Such a long straight road can only be found in Australia, on the Nellabor Plain. And then be sure that the kangaroos will not interfere with the movement. Even for a cycle of 0-400-0 km / h, you need 4.5 km.

Another surprise, which I did not want to talk about at first, is that there is no dynamics at all. When accelerating, you feel a powerful shift (not even shocking, but indomitable), and not like on the Ferrari F430, in which you feel like flying a soccer ball across the entire field.

This two-ton colossus does not squeal, but rumbles. The thrust is large, and the speed is low (red sector at 6500 rpm). Turbines, no matter how many there are, will not be able to provide instant pickup atmospheric motor. You can’t call the car slow in any way, but the start just didn’t live up to expectations.

But in the management of Bugatti is excellent. DSG box, two clutches, like the Audi TT, works great, but is controlled by buttons. The pedals are easy to press too. The seats save you from driving a hard ride on sharp bumps - soft, good. There is a radio and air conditioning.

All of these complaints were predictable. After all, there are huge blind spots created by the side mirrors, which also block the view in sharp turns. In all other respects, however, they are impeccable. At intersections, you have to look over your shoulder to see if there is someone on the side, but this turns out to be useless. In addition, the car is too wide and therefore clumsy on winding roads. Sometimes it seems that because of such size, a good half of the “horses” is wasted in vain.

Veyron can be compared to a dinosaur. He, too, is a victim of the shortcomings from which his predecessors died out. The pursuit of unprecedented speed and power generates enormous weight, size and complexity.

And yet it is magnificent and very unusual car. Although its perfection is absolutely impractical, it managed to embody a great technical achievement - speed. Ten years ago, they said that the time of supercar monsters had passed and they had become a relic of the past. But it was not there!

An expert assessment of the Bugatti Veyron can only be trusted to the person who created the fastest car up to this time - the McLaren F1.

No matter what anyone says, but Bugatti is a first-class engineering work only because the developers have set themselves such tasks: to create a car with precisely such forms, power and speed. For this alone, he should go down in history. But one can judge this machine only when the goals of its creation are known. It may be the ideal machine, but not the driver's choice.

You can understand Bugatti engineers: I built Mercedes myself SLR McLaren but it was easier with him. We were seven people, and we coped with the task, working around the clock. We were given complete freedom, which we took advantage of, concentrating on the most important. We started with weight (because it affects everything: acceleration and braking, handling, cornering) and its distribution.

Then we took up aerodynamics and the organization of the interior space. And only on the basis of all this we set to design. Quite the opposite was done Veyron. The style was set in advance, and only then it was necessary to fit the filling into this appearance. I had to work on all of the above with a finished body. Bugatti engineers, plus everything, had to fulfill two more conditions: 1001 hp. and 400 km/h. Therefore, it was necessary to attract 70 engineers and 70 controllers (they, among other things, solved those problems that could have been avoided if the work had been organized correctly, according to a different scheme). As a result, it turned out great car It's hard for me to even criticize her.

If this car puts an end to the race for power and speed, great. The maximum speed of the McLaren F1 was not a goal in the production of this car, because in practice you can’t use 400 km / h anyway.

So I can’t say that Veyron is “oh, what an advanced car.” He managed to advance no further than the McLaren F1 in terms of aerodynamic performance (the McLaren F1 has a fan that regulates the vacuum under the belly of the car, as well as an automatic aerodynamic brake and brake cooling). And since the Veyron is made of carbon fiber and metal, it lags behind the F1 and SLR, which are made entirely of carbon fiber, in body construction. Transmission and engine - beyond praise. The "automatic" works fine, but I prefer the "mechanics" with a pedal and a lever. The main strength of the Veyron lies in the support systems. The presence of ESP makes it easy for most drivers to handle the Bugatti Veyron.

But this is not enough for the Bugatti Veyron to be considered an everyday supercar. And again I am tormented by the question: what is this car created for? It does not meet the basic postulates that make the car optimal for real roads.

First, the size, especially the width. This car has no sense of size. From the outside, it looks small, but from the inside it seems very large and wide, it’s even scary to drive. Secondly, ergonomics. In general, everything is fine here, but there are also disadvantages. For example, if you adjust the steering wheel and sit down so that it is comfortable, it will be difficult to read readings from secondary instruments. And the pedal set is displaced so much that it soon becomes annoying. Third, road performance, somehow: ease of movement in dense city traffic. In general, everything is not bad here, if the turbo lag did not interfere.

Pros are ride quality and ease of handling. The steering wheel in this car is very light, and the car itself can absorb bumps, changes in the road profile, and also dampen rolls and body vibrations. However, on small but sharp bumps, stiffness and noise appear, which is very important on a long journey. And it is very difficult to correct this shortcoming because of the huge noisy unsprung masses - big tires with rigid sidewalls, drives, suspension arms with hydraulics. Fourth, the convenience of luggage placement. The trunk of the Bugatti Veyron only holds a case. Fifth, visibility. The A-pillars are so big they can cover an entire car that comes around a corner. There is no visibility back over the shoulder, but everything is perfectly visible in the side mirrors. And, finally, sixthly, parking, which is affected by visibility, which means that you can’t do without help here.

In general, it turns out that the car is not designed for the real world. So what is it for?

The main disappointment is that in a typical traffic situation The Bugatti Veyron doesn't seem fast at all. Of course, the torque is large, and the acceleration is excellent, but the turbo lag also interferes with the large inertia of the motor. The test showed that when accelerating to third gear, when it was possible to withstand 3000 revolutions, and pressing the gas to failure, acceleration occurs in a couple of seconds (for comparison: in a McLaren F1 or Zonda, the passenger's head would hit the headrest). And now imagine that you decide to overtake a couple of cars. Pressed on the gas, and acceleration has to wait. But then the car breaks down where it is already time to return to its lane, but the car is already rushing too fast.

Now for the achievements. The surprise was the entry of Veyron into the corners, despite the fact that he does not feel his weight. It seemed to me like a bag of cement, but in fact it easily copes with the sharpest turns. The steering wheel is a little heavier on turns, but there is no thoughtfulness in it. Excellent control even on serpentines!

The brakes are also great - anyone can stop it. I tested the brake at 274 km/h (without hands) and the Veyron came to a stop in a straight line. In addition, the car seems really reliable - additional torsional rigidity is attached to the carbon fiber body.

Although Bugatti liked to say that his cars were made for the road and not for the track, I did not enjoy the Veyron more on the serpentines, but on the track (contrary to my own expectations). And if I had such a car, all I would do was show my friends on the track what 1001 “horses” means when all the turbines are working, and what the brakes are. He has no equal in this.

After all that has been said, it is difficult to classify the Bugatti Veyron as a modern supercar, but it must be admitted that its creation is a huge achievement for the developers. Although they started from the other end, they were able to create a very capable car. Thus, the engineers confirmed the potential of the Volkswagen Group.

Bugatti Veyron, top speed

Bugatti Veyron vs Nissan GT-R

The fastest car in the world is recognized as the Bugatti Veyron (engine size - 8 liters, power - 1001 hp), and James May was given the nickname "Captain Snail". Apparently, opposites do attract. The Bugatti Veyron, with a top speed of 230 km/h, is considered the fastest car in the sports class.

At the first meeting this car almost blew me away (literally).

When the light came on, I was amazed at his appearance. It was not at all a funny car, not a clown, as it might seem. After all, when I heard that they were going to produce a hypercar, and which does not mind any money, I got ready to see the air intakes with slots and a pile of unfitted carbon fiber. But I was wrong: in front of me was a muscular, stylish car with pleasant shapes. Of course, the false radiator grille, the motor located behind and outside are puzzling - like a Morgan with three wheels. But you need to keep in mind that this is not a car for pensioners. But still it cannot be said that he is rich in excesses. On the contrary, some of his relatives look less modest. The glossy two-tone body of the car corresponds to the status of "the fastest and most comfortable car on the planet."

The salon is truly perfect.

Let there be some excess with luxury, but at least human materials were used, no space. Fingers easily scour the panel, finding the right buttons without difficulty. And the fifth point at this time finds support in the form of a narrow sports seat (which, by the way, can be replaced with a wide luxurious chair if you wish - you just have to order it).

When it comes to Veyron, three figures are indispensable: 1,000,000 euros, 1,000 hp. 400 km/h If you do not consider the price / quality ratio, then this car will win in all three categories.

1,000,000 euros, or 1,200,000 dollars, will have to be paid by someone who has enough space in the garage to put such a car. Veyron is planned to be produced in small batches, on order. At the plant in Wolfsburg, they say that Volkswagen does not intend to cash in on this model.

1000 HP - also not an extraordinary indicator. Aircraft engines had such power even before the war. Another thing - to achieve it, you had to burn a lot of fuel. It is not easy to achieve this on an 8L car engine (for example, the Rolls-Royce Merlin with 1030 hp had a 27L V12 engine).

The customer receives a minimum of 1001 hp. and a maximum - as much as 1050 hp.

For those who don't know, power is the work done per unit of time. A 1000 hp is the maximum power that is possible. On the panel next to the tachometer is a power indicator (it is marked in hundreds). The biggest value that I have seen in my driving practice is the number 900, which lasted half a second. The ability to do work is torque, and power is only a product of it and the speed of rotation of the crankshaft.

The greatness of Volkswagen's achievements is especially striking if we remember that Lupo with a 1 liter engine accelerates to 150 km / h at 50 hp. and the Porsche 911S has a top speed of 300 km/h with 355 hp.

This is explained by the fact that the aerodynamic resistance increases in proportion to the square of the speed.

Again, there is a scientific explanation for everything. In its usual configuration, the Bugatti Veyron can reach a maximum speed of up to 370 km / h, wherein downforce is 350 kg. And in order to achieve downforce (however, as well as lifting), you need to sacrifice aerodynamics.

To drive with Vmax, you need to insert a special key (second). At the same time, computer programs that control the diffusers located under the bottom and the rear wing are changed. Downforce is reduced to 50 kg. Bugatti engineers say that you can only drive this way on roads without turns.

Problems arise even here. Specially designed Michelin tires (wider than on the Countach: 365 mm at the rear) have low rolling resistance and are 15 km/h closer to top speed. But they are not able to withstand such a speed for a long time (no more than 15 minutes). Then they collapse, which is a pity, because they are not cheap.

Another point: at maximum speed, the Bugatti Veyron has fuel consumption liter per kilometer, so if the tires don't fall apart sooner, you'll be pulling over with an empty tank very soon.

Turbines, no matter how many there are, will not be able to provide instantaneous pickup of an atmospheric engine.

And yet it is a magnificent and very unusual car.

You can understand the Bugatti engineers: after all, I myself built the Mercedes SLR McLaren, but it was easier with him. We were seven people, and we coped with the task, working around the clock. We were given complete freedom, which we took advantage of, concentrating on the most important. We started with weight Besides that it affects everything: acceleration and braking, handling, cornering) and its distribution.

The result was a great car, it's even hard for me to criticize it.

If this car puts an end to the race for power and speed, great. The maximum speed of the McLaren F1 was not a goal in the production of this car, because in practice you can’t use 400 km / h anyway.

In October 2005, a significant event in the history of automotive industry- at the international Tokyo Motor Show the premiere of the Bugatti Veyron serial hypercar literally “thundered”, which at the time of its appearance became the “most” in all respects: the most powerful, the fastest, the most expensive.

However, the history of the car began in the fall of 1999, when the EB 18/3 Chiron concept debuted in the capital of the country of the Rising Sun, followed by a pre-production model under the name Bugatti 16.4 Veyron in the spring of 2001, presented at the Geneva show.

In August 2008, at the American Competition of Elegance in Pebble Beach, an open version of the hypercar appeared before the public “live”, which received the prefix “Grand Sport” and went into production already in 2009.

A new milestone in the two-door's career began in July 2010, when Bugatti revealed an even more capable version of the Veyron called the "Super Sport", which not only had its engine bled, but also retuned the chassis and improved aerodynamics.

Well, in the spring of 2012, similar metamorphoses overtook the roadster, which received the designation "Grand Sport Vitesse".

In the spring of 2015, Bugatti retired its automotive "icon" by presenting a "farewell" version of the open Grand Sport Vitesse "La Finale" at the Geneva show. In just ten years of production, 450 hypercars were born: 300 coupes (of which 30 were 1200-horsepower) and 150 roadsters.

The appearance of the Bugatti Veyron will not leave anyone indifferent - the car can hardly be called a beauty standard, but it instantly attracts attention and makes an indelible impression with its appearance. The wide and squat body of the hypercar, based on wide “rollers” with a diameter of 20 inches, boasts not only a muscular build and smooth outlines, but also aerodynamically adjusted forms.

Regardless of the version, Veyron stretches 4462 mm in length, while its width and height fit into 1998 mm and 1204 mm, respectively. The wheel sets of the car are spaced at a distance of 2710 mm, and the ground clearance is standard form is 120 mm (for 1200-strong modifications - 99 mm). At the same time, on high speeds the hypercar is able to "squat" by 50 mm - its minimum clearance reaches 65 mm.

Strictness, solidity and conciseness reign in the interior of the Bugatti Veyron, however, by modern standards, the decoration of a two-door seems old-fashioned and looks very boring - you will not find any touch screens, no other gadgets, but the perfection of forms and lines, mired in luxury performance and impeccable quality. Pointer devices with a tachometer at the head, a beautiful three-spoke steering wheel and a sloping console on which analog clocks are “registered”, “turbines” of ventilation deflectors and stylish audio and microclimate units – there is nothing inside that could distract from the road at high speeds. The "apartments" of the car demonstrate chic finishing materials: aluminum, thick leather, lacquered carbon fiber - everything is real here.

The Veyron's cabin contains two bucket seats with a bright side profile, a carbon fiber base and mechanical adjustments. For luggage in front of the cabin is organized luggage compartment, but it is rather formal - you can fit only one sports bag there, and even then not every one.

Specifications. The most impressive thing about the Bugatti Veyron is not the exterior or the interior, but the flywheel mounted longitudinally within the wheelbase with the flywheel forward Gas engine, devoid of any newfangled tricks, the power from which is digested by a 7-speed robotic box DSG with two clutches.

All modifications of the hypercar "flaunt" all-wheel drive transmission With electromagnetic clutch Haldex, capable of directing up to 90% of the thrust to the front axle, and self-locking (up to 100%) rear differential. On dry pavement, the moment is distributed between the wheels in a ratio of 45:55 in favor of the rear.

  • By default, the car (including the Grand Sport roadster) is equipped with a grandiose 8.0-liter (7993 cubic centimeters) W16 engine, as if made up of a pair of "offset-in-line" "eights" in a W-shaped configuration, with port injection, four turbochargers, 64-valve layout, dry sump lubrication technology and two fuel pumps. The "heart" of the car generates 1001 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 1250 Nm of torque at 2200-5500 rpm.
The coupe “teleports” from standstill to 100 km/h after 2.5 seconds, and it takes 7.3 and 16.7 seconds to accelerate to 200 and 300 km/h, respectively. The “maximum speed” of the two-door reaches 407 km / h (moreover, to conquer such figures at 375 km / h, it is necessary to start the “high-speed” mode), and its “appetite” in mixed mode fits into 24.1 liters (however, consumption depends on speed).
The open version picks up the first “hundred” 0.2 seconds slower, and its peak capabilities can change: without a roof, the car exchanges 360 km / h, with a soft top - no more than 130 km / h, and with a hard “surface” - 407 km / h . In combined conditions, the "Frenchman" destroys 24.9 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers.
  • The Super Sport and Grand Sport Vitesse versions are "armed" with the same engine, but equipped with more efficient turbochargers (the pressure is raised from 1.3 to 1.5 bar), modernized system intake, enlarged liquid intercoolers and four fuel pumps. As a result, its potential is brought to 1200 “stallions” at 6400 rpm and 1500 Nm of ultimate thrust at 3000 rpm.
"Super Sport" conquers a maximum of 415 km / h (speed is limited in order to prevent rapid wear tires), eating 23.1 liters in the combined cycle, and Vitesse - 410 km / h. From standstill to “hundreds” it “shoots” after 2.5 seconds, up to 200 km / h - 6.7 seconds, and up to 300 km / h - 14.6 seconds (the roadster is slower by 0.1, 0.4 and 1.4 seconds, respectively).

At the heart of the Veyron is a carbon fiber monocoque weighing only 110 kilograms, to which an aluminum subframe is attached at the front with undercarriage and front final drive, and behind - a steel subframe that accommodates the power unit. The wings and doors of the hypercar are made of “winged metal”, and the engine covers and intercoolers are made of magnesium. In the "marching" form, the weight of the two-door is 1888 kg (the weight distribution is almost perfect - 45:55).
The car “in a circle” is equipped with an independent chassis on double wishbones with passive Sachs shock absorbers, steel springs with hydrosupports (allow you to change the road range in the range of 50 mm) and powerful transverse stabilizers. "Frenchman" is equipped with rack and pinion steering with hydraulic booster. Deceleration is handled by high-performance brakes with 8-piston AP Racing calipers and SGI carbon fiber 400mm front and 380mm discs. rear wheels(only 31.4 meters are required to stop from 100 km / h), and at speeds over 200 km / h, a rear wing is additionally activated.

Prices. From 2005 to 2015, the Bugatti Veyron sold 450 copies (of which, according to unofficial data, at least ten pieces settled in Russia) average price at 2.3 million euros (according to the current exchange rate, this is ~ 163.59 million rubles). At the same time, the cost of the coupe started from the level of 1 million euros, and the roadster - 1.4 million euros (and this is without taxes). The hypercar does not indulge in an excess of bells and whistles in the “base” - it boasts six airbags, 20-inch aluminum wheel rims, bi-xenon headlights, high-end interior trim, ABS, EBD, ESP, premium Puccinni audio system, dual-zone “climate”, power windows yes "launch control".
