Wiring diagram for LED headlights. How to connect daytime running lights

14.04.2019

More recently, Russia introduced requirements for the use of daylight hours days of fog lights, or low beam, or daytime running lights. Many service stations offer assistance in installing additional optics on a car. However, connecting daytime running lights with your own hands is not very difficult, and below we will tell you how to do it.

We will talk about how to choose daytime running lights, describe how to install them and provide a diagram for connecting DRLs.

At the end of the article, watch the video instruction for connecting DRLs through an oil pressure sensor.

Daytime running lights (DRL or DRL) are additional lighting devices that are installed in front of the car. They can be combined with standard optics or used separately. When you turn on the dipped or high beam, as well as side lights DRL, it is desirable to turn off.

Until recently, to draw attention to the car, drivers turned on the dipped headlights. The use of daytime running lights eliminates some of the disadvantages that appear when using standard optics in daytime.

  1. DRLs increase the life of headlight bulbs. Frequent turning on and off of the dipped beam negatively affects the durability of the bulbs. This is especially true for lighting devices with improved light output, such as + 30%, + 50%, etc.
  2. When using DRL, the inclusion of side lights and number plate lights is excluded. This allows you to reduce energy consumption and not impair the readability of brake lights.
  3. Availability automatic start DRL allows you to deal with the forgetfulness of the car owner. By not turning on the standard optics during the day, the motorist risks getting a fine. And if you leave the dipped headlights with the engine off, the battery will quickly discharge.

Before you start connecting daytime running lights, you should take into account a number of factors that affect the choice of a DRL model.

Firstly, a lot depends on the installation location and design of the car:

  • Additional optics may have a rectangular or round shape. Here the design of the bumper will play a decisive role and appearance"front" of the car.
  • The size of the lights is determined by the niche that is in the bumper or air intake of the car.
  • The brightness of each block depends on the number of LEDs. It should be in the range of 150-330 lumens.

Second an important factor when choosing daytime running lights, there will be compliance with regulatory requirements. When installing, it is necessary to withstand several basic characteristics:

  • The height from ground level to the lanterns should be in the range from 250 to 1500 mm.
  • The distance from the extreme side point of the car to the headlight should not exceed 400 mm.
  • The minimum distance between two DRL lamps is 600 mm. For vehicles up to 1300 mm wide, this parameter is reduced to a distance of 400 mm.
  • It is necessary to comply with some geometric parameters when installing DRL lights. The horizontal deflection is 20 degrees in and out, and the vertical angle should be 10 degrees up and down.

Installation methods and connection diagram for daytime running lights

Installation of daytime running lights can be done different ways, it all depends on the skills of the car owner.

When buying daytime running lights, please note that the kit should include two lights, connecting wires, materials for installation and instructions for installation and operation. In this case, the owner of the car will not have to rack his brains and look for DRL connection diagrams.

  1. For people who are afraid or do not want to engage in car maintenance or repair, it is preferable to contact a specialized car service. An experienced auto electrician will quickly and efficiently cope with the connection of DRL.
  2. Those who are able to perform simple car tuning operations can be advised to buy a ready-made set of running lights. For example, Philips and Hella DRLs performed well.
  3. Fans of soldering irons and electrical circuits can completely DIY LED lights and connect them.

Connection of running lights can be carried out according to different electrical diagrams(the simplest circuit is through a relay and an oil pressure sensor). The main thing is that the DRLs turn on after starting the engine and go out when the dipped and main beam headlights are turned on. It is convenient to use the DRL controller for connection (a wiring diagram will also be given in the kit).

How to make your own daytime running lights

For self-manufacturing DRLs usually use cheap foglights, LED Strip Light, aluminum plates, silicone sealant and a soldering iron. The build sequence will be something like this:

  • First, the old fog lamp is disassembled and the internal filling is removed.
  • Next, an aluminum plate is cut to the size of the lantern body.
  • A piece (or 2 pieces) of the LED strip is cut to the size of the plate.
  • An adhesive-sealant is applied to the degreased aluminum surface, and the LEDs are attached.
  • It remains with the help of a soldering iron to connect in series the segments of the luminous tape and the electrical wire.
  • The headlight is already assembled with a new filling.

To connect such DRLs, one of those suitable for this car circuits (it is better to connect through a DRL controller or through a relay and an oil pressure sensor, as in the video below).

Installing daytime running lights on a car with your own hands becomes not only an interesting pastime. The result of the work will be a reason for the pride of the car owner, because the new image of his iron horse managed to create it myself.

Video: connecting DRL through an oil pressure sensor

On November 20, 2010, a new amendment to the traffic rules came into force, which obliges car drivers to turn on dipped headlights when driving, or turn on daytime running lights (DRL). But if the prospect of constantly driving with dipped beam does not suit you, and the old battery can hardly pull the loads set by the dipped beam, you can build daytime running lights yourself. In stores on this moment just a wagon and a small cart of all kinds of daytime running lights, but branded DRLs, or high-quality German, Korean, Japanese ones cost a lot of money, from 4000 to 8000 rubles. There is still Chinese cost 1500-3000 rubles. We will make daytime running lights with our own hands.

First of all, we buy cheap foglights, their average cost is from 300 rubles.

We disconnect the wires, take out the insides, disconnect the bar holder. Then we disconnect the diffuser glass from the fog lamp housing.

From aluminum plates we cut out a substrate for LEDs.

We attach these plates (substrate) to the inner body of the diffuser with silicone sealant, and wait for the silicone to dry.

For the manufacture of light elements we use LED strip.

We divide the tape into two sectors of 9 LEDs, which we attach to the substrates on the same silicone sealant and connect in series to each other.

At the same time, prepare the diffuser. You can paint it from the inside with tinted paint or glue it with a tinted film.

Diodes shine very brightly, therefore, tinting will absolutely not interfere with the glow.

Trim the edges of the film.

And finally we collect all the parts together, gluing them together with silicone sealant. When the sealant dries, we mount the mounting bracket and install daytime running lights on the car.

The remaining light corners can be painted over with a black marker. Now we connect daytime running lights according to the scheme using a power relay.

Thanks to this scheme, the daytime running lights light up directly when the ignition is turned on. And most importantly, they will turn off, thereby ensuring their operation in accordance with regulatory documents.

I will give another diagram for connecting DRL. It uses two additional power relays. With this connection, the navigation lights will automatically turn on when the engine is started and go out when the dimensions are turned on. It is advisable to insert a 10 A fuse into the wire designated as “+ 12V”.

Properly marked and installed DRLs that comply with the requirements of the UNECE Regulations and operate in the correct mode are not a violation. Self installation daytime running lights for vehicles is quite legal and is provided for by the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation of September 10, 2009 No. 720 “On approval technical regulations on the safety of wheeled vehicles”, Appendix No. 5.

To highlight the vehicle on the road during daylight hours, it is equipped with daytime running lights. Their installation is optional, since you can use the headlights, but this lighting has a number of disadvantages. You can choose, install and connect DRL in a car with your own hands, even without special knowledge in electrical engineering

What are daytime running lights

Daytime running lights (DRLs) are a forward-facing light source that improves visibility vehicle(TS) when driving during daylight hours. In 2010, a decree was issued in Russia that states that all vehicle owners must move in the daytime with the low beam headlights on. If we turn to statistics, the number of accidents after the entry into force of the decree has decreased markedly. From this follows the high efficiency of the use of DRL. In addition, such lighting allows you to give the car a certain personality.

Purpose of DRL

So we found out that led lights allow you to mark the car on the road during daylight hours, and this is especially important in bright sunny weather or in summer rain. If you turn on the parking lights, then the vehicle will remain unnoticed, which is associated with a lower strength of the emitted light. The light from the dimensions is suitable for night time. Some motorists may have a question - what is the difference between DRL and low beam headlights? Yes, you can drive with dipped beam, this is not prohibited by law, but there are some nuances that you need to know about:

  1. The service life of lamps and optics in general is reduced. When using expensive lighting equipment its replacement will require considerable financial costs.
  2. When the dipped beam is turned on, the side lights are turned on at the same time, and the dashboard is also illuminated. This leads to an increase in energy consumption and, accordingly, increased consumption fuel.

From the above, we can conclude: the purchase and installation of DRL will be the right decision. There is an opinion that this type of lighting can be replaced by fog lights (PTF), but in reality it is not so. For fog lights, the power consumption is similar to the power of dipped beam headlights.

Advantages

The design under consideration consists of LED elements. DRLs are endowed with a special mode of operation when they are connected when the engine is started. This can be done by selecting one of the lamp connection schemes below or by installing equipment with a control unit. When the dipped beam headlights are turned on, the DRL power is reduced by 50%, as a result of which this light source works as additional dimensions. Equipping a car with running lights simultaneously solves several problems:

  1. No need to constantly remember to turn on the headlights.
  2. LEDs are characterized by much lower power consumption compared to conventional lamps used in headlights.
  3. When compared with high beam, DRL does not dazzle oncoming drivers.
  4. The light beam of the daytime running lights has an increased light spot size.

One of the important advantages of DRLs is their special design for marking vehicles on the road. Compared to dipped headlights, they give large quantity light that is visible to other drivers.

The DRL installation has a number of advantages, one of which is the high brightness of the glow, in contrast to the dipped beam.

How to choose

Many car owners are wondering about the choice of DRL. There are many options for this lighting system, and sometimes it is not very easy to make a choice. To make the right decision, you need to consider the size, shape, place where the equipment will be installed. In addition, attention is paid to the brightness of the glow and the manufacturer. Let's dwell on each moment in more detail.

In shape, as well as in size, DRLs can be very diverse. The body shape of LED equipment can be round, oblong, triangular or square. It is also possible to construct from individual parts interconnected by a wire. Before you purchase and install one or another option, you need to find out if it fits in size and how it will look on your car. It is also important to determine the installation location in accordance with GOST and taking into account the car bumper. To date, DRLs are the most popular rectangular shape in a cast case. Their installation is possible on almost any car, which will make it more attractive.

Now as for the brightness of the glow. Basically, the system under consideration consists of two blocks, which are mounted on the left and right on the front of the car. Each of the blocks includes a certain number of LEDs (1–12 pcs.). Depending on the number of elements, the brightness of the glow will be different. The standard block of daytime running lights consists of 5 LEDs, but this option is not suitable for every car. The arrangement of elements can be done at the bottom, at the top or in the middle. Important point: the color of the glow of the diodes should be white, i.e., a temperature of 5-6 thousand K (kelvin) and a luminous intensity of 400 cd (candela).

The service life, characteristics and overall performance of LED equipment will depend on the choice of the manufacturer. The most popular in the field of optics are companies such as Hella, Osram, Philips. The equipment of these companies is different high quality and reliability. There are a number of other manufacturers, but they are inferior in terms of lighting characteristics to the brands overpowered above.

DRL have various forms, characteristics, design features, can be installed in different places the front of the car

How to choose the right DRL? The main rule that should be followed should be the high brightness of the LED elements. It is advisable to choose those devices that have a current consumption of 0.5–1 A. At the same time, power is far from always an indicator of the effectiveness of daytime running lights. Some experts are of the opinion that the light beam of LED lights should be in the range of 550–700 cd. It is this light intensity that makes the vehicle visible from a distance of more than 1 km. In addition to the rectangular shape, round is no less popular, since such running lights are characterized by effective work reflectors.

Preference should also be given to those devices whose body is made of aluminum. This allows them to be equipped with more powerful LED elements, since the metal is endowed with high heat dissipation, which contributes to better cooling when installing light sources with high efficiency. If we consider best option in terms of installation, attention should be paid to those devices that have a direct connection to the battery, bypassing the ignition system. The principle of operation of such equipment involves switching on when a certain voltage is reached. onboard network car.

Legal regulations for the installation of DRL

It is important to know and take into account the requirements for the selection and installation of LED lights:

  • the number of LED blocks should be no more than 2 pieces;
  • it is forbidden to install DRL on trailers;
  • the inclusion of running lights should occur automatically;
  • the lighting unit must be round or rectangular;
  • depending on the location of the DRL, the size may vary: smaller devices are installed on the air intake, larger ones on the bumper;
  • LED blocks should have a brightness of 150-330 lumens, while the number of elements and their size is chosen independently.

During the installation process, it is important to consider:

  • instead of running lights, you can use high beam headlights or fog lights;
  • there are no special requirements for the connection scheme;
  • daytime running lights should be located at a distance of no more than 40 cm from the edge of the car body;
  • the distance between DRLs must be at least 60 cm, and with a car width of less than 130 cm, it can be reduced to 40 cm;
  • when installed, the navigation lights are directed forward, while the horizontal angle should be equal to 20 ˚, vertically 10 ˚;
  • the operation of running lights with a stroboscopic effect is prohibited;
  • LEDs should light up when the engine is started and go out after turning on the head optics.

It is worth noting that the self-installation of DRLs is permitted and legal in accordance with the Decree of the Russian Federation No. 720, the effect of which dates back to September 2009. In this case, it is important not to fall under the restrictions of GOST, which requires certification of compliance with any changes in the vehicle design.

Installation of DRL on a car must be carried out taking into account current regulations

How to install on a car with your own hands

First of all, it is worth saying that for the installation of the system in question, the following list of materials and tools will be required:

  • pliers;
  • wire cutters;
  • soldering iron;
  • insulated two-wire wire;
  • LED blocks;
  • relay for 12V;
  • reed switch;
  • single wire;
  • plastic clamps.

Depending on the scheme and installation location, the list may be different. When using DRL Chinese made, before installation, it is recommended to treat the case with a sealant to prevent water from entering inside. Consider several options for circuits with which you can connect DRL.

Wiring diagrams for daytime running lights

One of the most simple options- automatic inclusion of navigation lights when the ignition is turned on and the engine is started. The schema has no additional elements: LED equipment is connected to the power supply of the on-board network: plus to the ignition switch, minus to ground (body). With this installation, special skills and knowledge in terms of electrical engineering are not required.

Scheme that implements the inclusion of daytime running lights automatically when the ignition is turned on

There is another scheme that is similar to the first one, but the difference is that the running lights turn off when the dipped headlights are turned on. The differences are that the positive wire is connected, as in the previous diagram, and the negative wire is connected to the “+” of the low beam lamps. The operation of such a circuit is due to the fact that conventional lamps are characterized by high current consumption than LEDs and lower resistance. As a result, the lamp will not work even half-heartedly, and this will not affect the operation of navigation lights in any way. At the moment the dipped beam is turned on, a “+” will appear on the negative wire of the DRL, which will lead to their shutdown. But at the same time, turning on the high beam will lead to the launch of the running lights. In this case, DRL can be connected to the dimensions.

The scheme in which DRLs are launched when the parking lights are turned on

For following scheme you will need an element such as a reed switch. In it, DRLs work when the engine is started and running. We connect the negative wire from the LED equipment to ground, and the positive wire to the 30th contact of the relay, 87th contact to the "+" battery or any wire with a large cross-sectional diameter, 85th contact of the relay is connected to total weight, 86 to one of the contacts of the reed switch. The second output of the reed switch is connected to any “+”, for example, to a battery or generator. Next, we start the engine and by moving the reed switch we find the position at which the relay will operate and the LEDs will work. We fix the reed switch, which is previously placed in a heat shrink tube, using a plastic tie to the generator in the appropriate position. If there is no reed switch, then you can slightly redo the circuit by connecting 86 contact to the oil pressure lamp, which is located on the instrument panel. As a result, the navigation lights will come on when the engine is started.

The inclusion of DRL can be implemented when starting the engine through the use of a reed switch

Installation locations

Many car owners install LED lighting far from the rules. Therefore, you need to figure out in what places you can install this type of lighting equipment:

  1. One of the installation methods is on the radiator grill from below. The car owner chooses running lights based on his preferences.
  2. Installing DRLs from below or above the grille, using LED strips. This is one of the options that is not considered by law as DRL, since the LED strip is more of a tuning element than a lighting element.
  3. Installation of LEDs around the perimeter of the radiator grille. The option does not comply with the safety rules of the vehicle.
  4. Installing the LED strip in head optics. Widespread on VAZ cars of the tenth generation. This method of installation meets the requirements of operation and is approved for use.
  5. Installation of daytime running lights in the places provided for PTF (foglights). This option is authorized for operation and meets safety requirements. In most cases, round-shaped lanterns are used for this method. But since fog lights can be used instead of running lights, this option is not very popular.

Installation and connection process

We start work with the selection of a place. At this stage, it is important to take into account not only the dimensions of the car and the method of attachment, but also recommendations for installation. Running lights must be located at a height of 350 mm to 1500 mm from the roadway. Minimum Height 250 mm is considered, but if the car is operated with a load, the body will lower. This point must be taken into account. Depending on what type of vehicle DRLs are installed on, optimal parameter height can be in the range from 400 mm to 800 mm.

DRL kit, depending on specific model device, consists of LEDs, wires, mounting brackets, instructions and control unit

The next step is the installation of running lights. When buying equipment, the kit must contain everything you need: LEDs, wires, instructions and other materials. When installing DRL in the grille, it will need to be removed. The place where the bracket will be mounted must be washed and degreased. Then a double-sided adhesive tape is glued, the shape of which corresponds to the shape of the bracket. After removing the protective layer, a bracket is attached to the adhesive tape. Before the clamp is fixed, they stretch the wire that comes from the body. Experts recommend making the mount more reliable and not relying only on adhesive tape. In this case, holes are drilled, and fastening is carried out using self-tapping screws. Even when mounting on adhesive tape, they are fixed on self-tapping screws.

One of the most popular places for installing DRLs is the radiator grille.

The next step is to install the control unit. It is best to place the unit near the battery, but away from the engine to avoid overheating. Since the housing is sealed and waterproof, additional measures protection is not required. The block is connected according to the standard scheme:

  • The red wire is connected to the “+”, black to the “-” of the battery.
  • The wire orange color should be connected to the dipped beam headlights or dimensions. The purpose of the orange wire is to turn off the DRL when the headlights are turned on. If you do not connect this wire, then the LEDs will shine too brightly and blind oncoming drivers.
  • When you turn off the head optics, the LEDs should glow brightly.
  • The lamps are connected to the block with the appropriate cable on a detachable connection.

Standard DRL connection to the battery terminals, which is the most reliable power supply option

After the work done, you need to check whether everything is done correctly. When the engine is started, the DRLs should light up, when the headlights are turned on, they should dim, and when the engine is turned off, they should go out completely. If the glow of the LEDs is observed for about 20 seconds after the engine is turned off, then this is considered normal. After you have checked and made sure that the system is working correctly, the central module is mounted and the LED blocks are fixed. To do this, they are inserted and snapped into the mounting bracket.

Next, the wiring is neatly laid under the hood and secured with plastic ties. Important: wires must not be attached to the fuel line, pressure hoses and radiator tube. Upon completion of all operations, the grate is installed in place. The variant with the control unit was considered above. If there is none, then you will need to install a relay for the dipped beam circuit in accordance with the diagrams above.

The DRL control unit is located near the battery, but away from the engine to avoid overheating.

DIY control unit

If you understand electrical engineering, then why not assemble a block for DRL yourself. The principle of operation of such a unit is that it receives voltage when the ignition is turned on, and it determines the operation of the engine by the frequency of pulses on the ignition coil. If the presence of pulses is more than 5 s, then the DRL automatically turns on. If there are no pulses within the specified time, then the lighting will not turn on. In addition, the unit turns off the LEDs when the head light is turned on.

Connect it as follows:

  • power is taken at any point where it is present when the ignition is turned on;
  • to count the pulses, the connection is made to the ignition coil;
  • the signal to turn on the main lighting is taken from the point at which 12 V appears when the head light is turned on;
  • at the output of the device, an automotive relay is used with a current consumption of not more than 200 mA at a voltage of 12 V, while the switching current should be 30–40 A;
  • connect the negative wire to ground.

With sufficient knowledge in the field of electronics, you can assemble a DRL control unit circuit with your own hands

Connecting DRL through a generator

Consider how you can power daytime running lights from a generator using a standard car relay (5 pins). The connection process is as follows:

  • The 30th contact of the relay is connected to the output D of the generator;
  • The 80th is connected to the "+" from the dimensions;
  • 87th - connected to the "+" LED blocks;
  • 86th - body weight.

In addition to the relay, the circuit assumes the use of a button, which must be connected in a circuit between the 30th contact of the relay and the generator. As a result, the device will work as follows:

  • When the engine is started, “+” goes from the generator through the button to the 30th relay contact. Further, the current flows to the "+" contacts of the lamps daylight which causes the LEDs to light up.
  • When the side lights are turned on, voltage appears between the relay contacts (85 and 86), the coil is activated and the contacts (30 and 87) are closed. There is no voltage at the 87th output and the DRLs are turned off.

Installation and connection to standard headlights

Daytime running lights can be built into standard optics, for example, in PTF. To do this, you only need to redo the fog lights so that they turn on properly, while the fog lights themselves will still work. To implement the plan, you will need two relays for 4 and 5 contacts. The connection is made as follows:

  • 85 contact of the first relay is connected to ground;
  • 86 contact goes to “+” clearance lamps or dipped beam;
  • 30 contact is connected to 87 of the second relay;
  • from pin 87 there is a connection to the “+” output of the headlights, while PTF connection remains untouched;
  • 86 contact of the second relay is connected to the “+” of the generator;
  • 30 contact of the second relay is connected with a wire to the “+” battery through a fuse;
  • 85 contact of the second relay is connected to ground.

It is worth noting that when connecting the 86th contact of the second relay to the generator, the DRL will work as soon as the engine starts. If the connection is made through the ignition switch, the LEDs will light up after the ignition is turned on. Both options are correct, and the choice is yours.

As you could understand, connecting DRLs is possible in different ways. In this case, either a relay or a special lighting control unit can be used. Which option to give preference, everyone chooses independently. It was described above not only what daytime running lights are intended for, but also possible ways installations and wiring diagrams. As a result, equipping your car with such lighting will not be difficult.

Video: An example of installing joint DRL and PTF optics on a Dacia Renault logan

The installation of daytime running lights on a vehicle is not complicated procedure and if necessary, anyone can do it. The main thing is to get familiar with possible schemes connections, installation sites and perform accurate installation, adhering to certain rules and recommendations.

According to current laws Russian Federation, in particular, the amendments made to the SDA, any vehicle driving even during the day must be with the low beam headlights on. In addition, instead of them it is permissible to use fog counterparts, as well as daytime running lights.

In view of the fact that the operation for this purpose of the head and fog lights is associated with a number of disadvantages, the vast majority of car owners prefer to purchase navigation light modules and install them on their own. In view of this, it is worth figuring out how to connect daytime running lights with your own hands?

Operation features

Legislation quite clearly regulates the rules for the use of such elements in the design of a car. According to the requirements of GOST, the running lights should come on immediately when the ignition key is turned, and automatic shutdown should occur if the driver has activated the headlights.

In addition, such a standard provides that the inclusion of head lights should occur only after full inclusion overall analogues. The only exception is when they are used to signal. This must be taken into account when wanting to install daytime running lights with your own hands.

Do-it-yourself DRL connection, It has whole line features that need to be taken into account in order to achieve correct sequence work and long term module services. To increase its service life, it is reasonable to use a special stabilizing block designed for LED lights.

However, this measure is aimed only at increasing the duration of the circuit; without such a block, all elements will function normally.

One of the most common problems m, characteristic of DRL modules, are voltage surges, which cause overheating of the crystal responsible for the radiation. In this regard, the brightness of the lights gradually decreases, after which they cease to perform their main function.

Connection options

Considering the most common options for connecting DRLs, it is advisable to disassemble the simplest circuit connection of navigation lights without the use of a stabilizer, generator and other additional elements. In order for the DRL to be activated when the engine is turned on, it is recommended:

  • Connect the positive wire to the positive terminal located on the ignition switch;
  • The negative cord is fixed on the body of the car in any place convenient for the owner;
  • When the ignition is turned on, the DRL will work.

The main disadvantage of such a connection scheme is the constant operation of the lights with the ignition on. Besides, work lights in this case , is not coordinated with other auto lighting systems, which means that such a connection does not meet the requirements specified in GOST.

The second connection option is much more suitable for this purpose, as it uses a circuit position headlights. The positive wire of the daytime running lights, in this case, is connected directly to the battery. Negative connect with positive marker lights, after which, the LEDs begin to glow. At the same time, the lamp coil does not burn, which is associated with low current consumption.

After the parking lights are activated, the driver will be able to notice that the DRL potentials are equalized, which causes the LEDs to turn off. As a result, the car's lighting circuit switches to normal operation. Despite the fact that this scheme works without serious violations, it has a number of disadvantages so it shouldn't be installed.

It would be appropriate to include:

Since this scheme also does not meet the requirements of the state standard, it will be necessary to consider the simplest and most suitable under existing norms option.

DRL controller

For the vast majority of owners, the most acceptable is the use of a special control unit that allows you to connect the HDO via correct scheme, without the use of relays and other elements. As a result, the connection scheme is simple and safe. , due to the unique advantages controller operation.

These should include:

  • Stable inclusion of DRL after starting the engine;
  • Provides protection against overloads;
  • Supports any type of lights, including LED;
  • Does not affect the operation of other nodes.

The control units for daytime running lights, in the vast majority of cases, fully comply with the state standard, which allows them to be safely used for their intended purpose. However, some manufacturers may introduce various functions into such equipment, which, despite their usefulness, may not meet the requirements of GOST, which means that their use is not recommended.

Another advantage of this kind equipment, it is possible to connect it according to the scheme provided in advance by the manufacturer. At the same time, it must contain information about maximum load, as well as other important technical specifications. This allows you to quickly and easily connect DRL without any experience and special knowledge.

If the purchase of a special controller is not planned, it is advisable to give preference to the option of connecting through a relay. It involves the use of 5 contact relay which will be involved in general scheme DRL connections. Such a scheme allows eliminate any shortcomings inherent in the previous options and makes it possible safe use DRL without any additional equipment.

Features of connecting the DRL relay:

  • 30 to "+" outputs of LED modules;
  • 85 on the "+" cord dimensions;
  • 86 is taken to the machine body;
  • 87a on the "+" ignition;
  • 87 isolate.

To implement such a connection through a relay, it is necessary to acquire wires for connection, terminals, ties, heat pipes and tools. Among other things, you should consider a way to securely attach the assembled circuit to the vehicle structure.

Some owners prefer use a generator in the connection diagram, which is not recommended in most cases. Indeed, in order to install DRL through the generator, you will need to install a resistor. Despite the efficiency of the scheme, its reliability leaves much to be desired.

Daytime running lights (DRL) in the headlights, fog lights, in turn signals installed separately, but wherever they are not installed. Are there any rules at all? regulate the installation of DRL? Is it possible install DRL yourself? They also say that they consume many times less energy, and therefore you save on gasoline. Everything in order..

What are DRLs and what are they for?

"Daytime running lights" have nothing to do with side lights. This new concept appeared in the rules due to the fact that they began to equip modern cars. This term refers to external lighting fixtures designed to improve the visibility of a moving vehicle in front during daylight hours. On new European cars you can often find lights in the headlights that stand out structurally in it. In most DRLs, this is LED bulbs. When using daytime running lights, additional light signals (fog or dipped beam) are not required.

How to beat an online casino for 368,548 rubles using a hole in the algorithm?
Step-by-step instruction

Hello! On the Internet, they know me like Jerome Holden and I make money by testing the algorithms of the well-known Vulkan casino: looking for vulnerabilities in games, placing bets and hitting the jackpot.

Now I am gathering a community for a more global project, so I am sharing the circuits for free. I tell everything in as much detail as possible, there is nothing complicated, you can work directly from the phone, even girls can handle it)). You can test algorithms, earn money and decide whether to join my team or not. Details here.

In three months, I earned 973,000 rubles on my schemes:

6.19.1 Installation
Optional on cars. Not allowed on trailers.
6.19.2 Number
Two.
6.19.3 Installation plan
There are no special instructions.
6.19.4 Placement
6.19.4.1. Width - the point on the surface as seen in the direction of the reference axis, which is farthest from the median longitudinal plane of the vehicle, shall be not more than 400 mm from the edge of the overall width of the vehicle.
The distance between the inner edges of the two visible surfaces must be at least 600 mm. This distance may be reduced to 400 mm if the overall width of the vehicle is less than 1300 mm.
6.19.4.2 Height - at a distance of 250 to 1500 mm above the ground.

GOST R 41.87-99 (UNECE Regulation N 87). According to the rules emitters daytime lights should occupy an area from 25 cm to 200 cm (in Russia "not less than 40 cm") and emit light with a power of 400 to 1200 cd, (in Russia from 400 to 800 cd).

This standard establishes uniform provisions concerning the approval of daytime running lamps for motor vehicles.
According to this GOST, all certified running lights must have the appropriate designation.

Table 6a - Requirements of the UNECE Regulations for the presence of external lighting devices on vehicles:

  • Daytime running light: White, 2 pcs.
  • Recommended for categories M, N. (passenger and utility vehicles, trucks)
  • Prohibited for categories O (trailers with two or more axles, trailers with a central axle and semi-trailers)

How to connect daytime running lights

DRL connection diagrams many, some of them are very simple, others require some experience with a soldering iron. All of them allow you to turn on the running lights automatically:

Scheme No. 1. Headlights turn on automatically when driving and turn off when stopped. When parked, the car is marked parking lights.
Such an algorithm for the operation of the outdoor lighting system fully complies with the requirements of traffic rules.
The scheme was tested on all Russian cars.
The source of information about the movement is the vehicle speed sensor
Contacts K 1.1 of the low beam headlight switch are included in the wire break from the low beam switch to terminal 85 of the RBS. (if you need to turn on the low beam on the spot, then you need to parallelize the contacts of the low beam switch).
Relay K1 - automotive, 851.3747, but any one that has a breaking pair of contacts and works stably at a voltage on the winding of 6 ... 14 V can be used. For example, RES10, passport: RS4.529.031-07.

Scheme No. 2. Using PTF in daylight mode and automatically turning them off along with the ignition.

Disable staff scheme turn on the PTF and remake it to turn on after turning the ignition key.
Any thyristor with a permissible current of 0.3 A is suitable. A 1500 microfarad 25 Volt capacitor will produce 23 seconds. delays. Resistors should be from 0.25 W to 47 (51) and 10 kilo ohms.
It is convenient to place the circuit in the relay case by surface mounting and place it in mounting block. We also take the plus we need after the ignition switch.

Procedure:

  1. Disable negative wire to power the winding of the power window relay and isolate it.
  2. Find the wire going to PTF key, disable it from regular place and insert instead of disabled in paragraph 1
  3. Insert finished structure into the socket.
Scheme No. 3. Turning on the PTF when starting the engine (generator).
The scheme is used on the VAZ 2110.
The headlights will turn on automatically when the generator is started. The engine is started - the generator is running - the PTFs are turned on, it does not work - vice versa.
The dimensions are turned on by the button and the ignition switch is open at the same time.
The essence of this method is to install a jumper from the power supply of the excitation winding of the generator to the PTF relay.
  • We remove the tidy and do as in photo 1.
  • We take out PTF button and disconnect the corner wiring from the plug photo 2.3.
  • We connect it to our wire (12 on connector X1 of the device), photo 4.

Insert into free place on the plug and put the button in place.
Scheme No. 4. Implementation of DRL using low beam. The principle of operation is the same as in scheme No. 3, the dipped headlights turn on after the engine starts and turn off when it stops, while the dimensions are turned off. Everything else works as normal.
You will need two low-power diodes (1A, for example KD10) and we connect them in series. Solder wires to them. overall length about 40cm. Because the diode is polar, then they should be connected as shown in the photo.
Parsing dashboard and connect the workpiece with the 12th pin of connector X1, as in the photo (the color of the wire is yellow, but the essence is the same).
We take out the button for turning on the lighting and connect the second end of our workpiece to the green wire of the connector. Or insert the stripped wire into the socket of the connector. We insert the button into place and check the performance.

If you need to stand with the dimensions when the engine is running without dipped headlights, then we put the button in the cut of the wire.
Scheme No. 5. Automatic on/off daylight by on/off generator.
The schemes were tested on Lada Priora and VAZ 2110.
  1. The first scheme - if only the work of the generator and the handbrake is tied.
  2. The second circuit contains another transistor that turns off the DRL when the dimensions or headlights are turned on by supplying "+" to the base of the KT814 transistor.
  3. The third scheme of Roman Toropov. It cancels the DRL under the following conditions: The handbrake is raised (for autostarting the internal combustion engine from an alarm or parking with the internal combustion engine running) and for turning on the dimensions (transferring the headlights or PTF to normal operation). In other words, under these conditions, the "automatic activation of DRL" is disabled when the generator is started. This DRL scheme, which passed the TRP.

Scheme No. 6. DRL auto-on when starting the engine and off from the dimensions / dipped beam. (oil level sensor)
The scheme was tested on the VAZ 2110.
IN this option the engine operation signal is taken from the minimum oil pressure sensor (from the instrument panel block). Running lights turn off if you turn on the dimensions or dipped beam.
PTF or dipped beam can be used as running lights.

Scheme No. 7. Automatic inclusion of DRL when the engine is started, and work at half strength when turning on PTF or near.
The scheme was tested on the VAZ 2110.
When the engine (generator) is started, the DRL lights up. When the dimensions are turned on, the work of the DRL continues, and when the PTF or dipped beam is turned on, the DRL begins to shine at half strength. This is due to the switching of relay 2 when the circuit is energized when the PTF or dipped is turned on. And also due to the resistor, which we have in front of the DRL on the excitation wires from the PTF and the neighbor. We use a diode so that the power of one device does not flow into another device.
Scheme No. 8. The inclusion of DRL after starting the engine after 7 seconds. Goes out when switched on.
The scheme was tested on the VAZ 2110.
When the engine is turned off, the running lights go out. There is no additional load at the factory. When blinking high beams, DRLs do not go out.

For example, the button is located in the console next to the heater control unit. This is a manual shutdown. We hook up assembled circuit clips to the fuse box. It is convenient to assemble the delay circuit itself in the case of a non-working relay.

Scheme No. 9 (Author on Skype: polimarh16). With the start of the movement, the dipped beam turns on and the interior lighting turns off.
The illumination in the door handles turns on when the engine is running and only when the car is stationary.
There is a free contact on the relay, to which it is connected additional illumination interior (for example, illumination of door handles)

Full description of the circuit: insert the ignition key, and turn it one notch. The low beam turns on for a few seconds and goes out. We start the engine. The interior lighting (door handles and LED strip) turns on. With the start of the movement, the dipped beam is turned on, and the interior lights are turned off. After stop- reverse procedure, but with a delay of a few seconds. The delay time is provided by R3 and C2. The larger they are, the longer the duration.
The board is placed for the instrument cluster on a double adhesive tape and is connected there to the X2 connector and to the near, dimensions / far switch.
