To illuminate the road at night, two headlights (right and left) are installed (Figure 2.2.1).

They consist of rectangular headlights with head and side light bulbs interlocked with a side indicator section. The block headlights are attached to the front of the car with four studs 28 and nuts with a serrated edge, which protect them from self-loosening.

The dipped and main beam headlights are switched by the left lever of the stalk switch 43, if the exterior light switch is on.

In addition, the electrical circuit provides for the possibility of light signaling, i.e. short-term inclusion of high beam headlights at any position of the switch of external lighting. In this case, the main beam of the headlights is turned on by pulling the left lever of the steering column switch towards itself, and the power to the light signaling contacts in the headlight switch 43 is supplied directly from the "INT" plug of the ignition switch 40, bypassing the outdoor light switch.

The filaments of two headlight bulbs consume a fairly significant current of 8-10 A. Therefore, in order to relieve the contacts of the headlight switch 43 and increase its durability, the headlights are switched on not directly by switch 43, but through additional relays 39 and 44. They have powerful contacts and are installed in mounting block 38. Relay 39 turns on the dipped beam in both headlights, and relay 44 turns on the high beam. As a result, only the supply current of the relay windings flows through the contacts of the headlight switch, not exceeding 0.2 A.

The headlight reflector 1 is made of steel and has the shape of a paraboloid bounded above and below by horizontal planes. To create a mirror reflective surface, the reflector is coated inside with a special heat-resistant varnish, and then a thin layer of aluminum is applied to it in a vacuum. Such a coating reflects from 90% of the light falling on it.

The lens 5 of the headlight is made of colorless silicate glass with a high degree of transparency. A complex system of lenses and prisms is pressed onto its inner surface, scattering light in a horizontal plane and concentrating the light flux in the required directions in accordance with international standards.

Lamp 24 of the head light of the headlight is halogen. The bulb of the lamp is made of quartz glass and filled with iodine (halogen) vapor and some inert gas. Halogen lamps have an increased luminous efficiency, which is ensured by a higher heating temperature of the filament and an increased service life due to the chemical process occurring in the lamp.

This process is as follows. During combustion, tungsten particles evaporate from the filament and deposit on the walls of the lamp. Iodine vapor comes into contact with them, and at a temperature of about 600C, tungsten iodide is formed. This compound is unstable at high temperatures and, getting into the hot filament zone, decomposes into iodine and tungsten, which is deposited on the filament, and iodine moves to the walls of the flask. Thus, when the lamp is switched on, there is a constant transfer of tungsten from the walls to the filament. Therefore, the walls of the bulb remain clean, the filament thins more slowly, and the life of the lamp increases.

When replacing halogen lamps, care must be taken to handle the lamp with gloves or a handkerchief so as not to leave greasy fingerprints on the lamp glass. If there are such traces on the lamp, then remove them with alcohol. Grease stains cause the lamp glass to darken as it heats up to high temperatures. As a result, it overheats and quickly fails. The lamp contains two tungsten filaments: one (55 W) for low beam and another (60 W) for high beam. The main beam thread 7 is at the focus of the reflector, and therefore the high beam beams are collected in a narrow beam directed almost parallel to the road and well illuminating it at the maximum distance from the car. The thread 9 of the low beam is brought forward from the focus of the reflector and is closed from below by a special metal screen 8. This is done in order to limit the spread of the low beam upwards.

If you direct a beam of low beam at the wall, then the spot of light will have the shape of an ellipse with a cut off upper half. In the left part of the spot, the upper border of the illuminated area will pass exactly along the horizontal axis of the ellipse, and in the right part along the line emanating upward from the center of the ellipse at an angle of 15 to its horizontal axis.

This shape of the light beam provides good illumination of the road in front of the car (especially its right side and shoulder) and reduces the possibility of blinding oncoming drivers. The direction of the headlight beam in the horizontal plane can be adjusted by screw 27, and in the vertical plane by screw 17.

When the screw 27 is rotated, the left edge of the reflector moves forward or backward, and it rotates relative to the lower support 2 and the ball head of the upper holder 13.

When the screw 17 is rotated, the reflector rotates through the lever 15 relative to the lower support 2 and the ball head of the screw 27.

Depending on the load of the car, the angle of inclination of the headlight axes relative to the road changes and, accordingly, the direction of the headlight beams deviates.

To correct the direction of the light beam, depending on the load on a part of the car, a manual headlight hydraulic corrector is installed, which can be used from the driver's seat to slightly correct the direction of the headlight beam in a vertical plane.

If there is no hydraulic corrector on the car, then a plug 12 is inserted into the headlight housing instead. The headlight hydraulic corrector consists of a transmission mechanism (or main cylinder) fixed with a nut on the instrument panel, two working cylinders mounted on the headlight housings, and connecting tubes.

Cylinders and tubes are filled with a special fluid that does not freeze at low temperatures. The design of the hydraulic corrector is non-separable, and in case of damage it must be replaced as a whole, complete with cylinders and tubes. When the car is loaded by only one driver, the piston 32 of the drive mechanism is fully pushed into the cylinders of the housing, and the rods of the working cylinders 20 are maximally extended from the housings.

If you put a load in the trunk, then the rear of the car will lower, and the beam of headlights will rise up. To return it to its previous position, turn the handle 34 of the hydraulic corrector counterclockwise as far as it will go. In this case, the piston 32 moves back from the cylinders and sucks the liquid out of the tubes and working cylinders. With return springs, the rods of the working cylinders are pushed into the housings, and the levers 15 of the headlights are rotated by the springs 16 counterclockwise. The upper part of the headlight reflector moves forward and the headlight beam is lowered.

Fog lights.

In a variant version, fog lights can be installed on the car. To turn them on, the corresponding key is provided on the instrument panel.

Voltage is supplied to the headlights through a relay installed in the mounting block. The fog lights can only be turned on if the outside lights are on. The scheme of switching on headlights and fog lights is shown in Figure 2.2.2.

The license plate and trunk lamps turn on simultaneously with the external lighting, but are connected bypassing the lamp control relay, so their serviceability is not diagnosed.

The glove box illumination lamp is switched on when the ignition is switched on by the switch under the box cover.

Voltage is also supplied to the switches for the lamps of the interior lamp and the driver's individual lamp when the ignition is turned on. In addition, the interior lamp lights up if one of the doors is open and the ceiling light switch is in the appropriate position.

The illumination of the devices turns on simultaneously with the inclusion of external lighting. The brightness of the backlight lamps is regulated by a rheostat on the instrument panel.

The reversing lamps come on when the ignition is on and the reverse gear switch located on the transmission is closed.

Until 1988, the parking light system was used separately on the left or right sides of the car, depending on the position of the corresponding switch, if the ignition key was in the “Parking” position.

Direction indicators.

The direction indicators (left or right) are switched on by the steering column switch 9. The alarm mode (all direction indicators flash) is activated by pressing the corresponding button 8. The flashing of the lamps in this mode is provided by the relay-breaker K2 in the mounting block 3. If one of the indicator lamps burns out turn, the flashing frequency of the remaining lamps and the control lamp doubles. In normal mode, the blinking frequency should be 90 ± 30 cycles per minute at an ambient temperature of -40 to +65°C and a voltage of 10.8 to 15 V. The circuit for turning on the direction indicators and alarm is shown in Figure 2.2.4.

As a rule, tuning the interior of the VAZ 21099 begins with the refinement of the instrument panel. In most cases, this is where it ends, which cannot be said about the older domestic model - the VAZ 2109, the modernization of the interior of which requires much more cost and effort. What methods of changing the interior of the VAZ 2109 are available to each of us - we will consider in more detail.

1 Improving the illumination of the instrument panel VAZ

Probably, many of the owners of the VAZ 2109 would like to have the same beautiful and bright instrument panel illumination as on most imported cars. It is the lighting that can greatly transform the appearance of the cabin, make it more spectacular. Knowing this, the owners of the "nine" begin to improve precisely with the modernization of the interior lighting of the car.

For DIY tuning, we need an LED strip, pliers, a set of screwdrivers and a knife. First, we dismantle the dashboard of the car and completely disassemble it. Next, you need to dismantle the arrows from all scales and put them aside. In addition to the arrows, you need to remove the standard protective pad. In order not to forget later, it is necessary to make cutouts in the overlay, through which the lighting will seep into the interior, making it brighter. You can make holes with a soldering iron or a heated knife.

Bright illumination of the instrument panel VAZ 2109 Next, we take the diode tape and cut it into equal pieces, each of which should have 3 diodes. The uniformity of the section can be given using ordinary foil. Then we take 3 pieces of diode tape for the speedometer and tachometer, and for devices indicating the temperature of antifreeze and the amount of fuel, 1 piece is enough.

It is worth noting that after tuning with your own hands, the standard interior lighting of the VAZ 2109 will remain unchanged and will play the role of illuminating the arrows on the instrument scale. If you want to improve it, then you can glue diodes in place of standard light bulbs.

At the same time, do not forget to tint the bulbs a little, otherwise the lighting will be too bright. Next, we connect the contacts to the plate of standard backlight lamps. You should be very careful not to reverse the polarity of the wires. In order for the power supply of the diodes to be stable without power surges, we recommend using a special driver. It should be complete with diodes. Next, we apply a voltage of 12 V and check the operation of the diodes. If everything is in order, then you should not immediately install the dashboard in place. Let's move on to the next stage of tuning - finalizing the instrument panel.

2 Modernization of the dashboard "nine"

The VAZ 2109 shield can be made much more effective if it is slightly modified. To improve with our own hands, we need certain equipment. On hand you need to have:

  1. Numbers in the original font;
  2. Ordinary light bulbs with cartridges;
  3. neon lamps;
  4. Scale panel;
  5. Fluorescent paint.

Refinement of the instrument panel with fluorescent paint

We disassemble the standard insert with arrows and increase the holes in it. Next, take out the board with light bulbs. Instead of the latter, we fasten neon lamps. On top of them is to install a piece of plastic for protection. Then we screw in the lamps to illuminate the devices, running them parallel to the neon lamps. Inside we stretch the wiring and carefully lay it in the lower part under the instrument panel. The arrows of the scales must be painted with a special fluorescent composition. It is best if you apply 2 coats of paint. Next, set the arrows. We check them and, if everything works, we assemble the insert in the reverse order.

As an improvement to the dashboard, you can also repaint some of its parts. Any composition is suitable for painting with your own hands, the main thing is not to forget to apply a primer before that. It is important to remember that when painting the interior of a car, some elements of the dashboard should remain unchanged. These include torpedoes, a recess for a cigarette lighter and stove grates. The rest of the details can be painted at your discretion. To do this, they must be completely cleaned and degreased. Next, a primer is applied to the parts. After it dries, you can apply the paint itself. Make sure you completely paint over the details. If not, you will need to apply another layer.

3 New upholstery and soundproofing for cars

Immediately after finalizing the instrument panel of the VAZ 2109, you can begin to replace the standard interior trim. To do this, we completely dismantle all the seats and other accessories located in the cab of the car. After that, remove the standard trim. We cut the vibroplast into even pieces and paste over all the internal surfaces of the cabin with it. As practice shows, for pasting the interior it takes about 15 pieces of soundproofing material, 0.5 × 0.9 m in size.

After pasting the interior with soundproofing, you can proceed with the installation of a new skin. What material you choose for this is purely up to you. In most cases, domestic car owners choose more practical materials that are not easy to get dirty and damaged. Carpet and leatherette have such characteristics. When lining the interior with your own hands, it is best to start work from the ceiling of the car. Experts advise dragging this part of the cabin in 2 layers. In this case, between each of the layers it is necessary to pause for 10-15 minutes. After the ceiling, we proceed to the lining of doors and arches.

You should not install the seats immediately after finishing the VAZ 2109 sheathing. Give the material time to grab the vibroplast. This takes about 6-8 hours, but if the room is warm enough, the material will adhere faster. After this time, carefully check the condition of the material. If it does not sag anywhere, then you can install seats.

At night, most drivers rarely turn on the lights inside the car. But when they do not work, the operation of the car becomes uncomfortable. Getting into the car is complicated, especially for passengers.

VAZ 2109 interior lighting has two sources. The first directional lamp is installed at the front of the headlining. The small round cover can be moved to adjust to the desired zone.

For general lighting of the entire cabin, a ceiling lamp with a rectangular diffuser is designed. It is also located on the ceiling, closer to the center, more precisely, above the space, between the backs of the front seats. In addition, when the doors are opened, small bulbs light up, and each device has an individual backlight.

Lighting problems

If the VAZ 2109 interior lighting does not work, then there may be several reasons:

  • the bulb burned out;
  • broken wire;
  • contacts are oxidized;
  • connections are broken;
  • fuse burned out.

You can determine the cause of the malfunction and eliminate it yourself, without resorting to the services of the salon. To do this, you need to have a set of screwdrivers and a tester. In order to fix the interior lighting in the VAZ 2109, the lamps should be disassembled.

Lighting dismantling

The diffuser is held on the base of the housing with a spring latch. Place the end of a flathead screwdriver under the cover in the center and press lightly, retracting the latch. Then pull down and remove the glass cover from the lamp. Care must be taken to preserve the appearance of the details of the lamp. Experienced experts recommend putting a piece of cloth or paper on the end of the diffuser in the place where you work with a screwdriver.

The bulb can be removed and checked. Further dismantling is carried out using a Phillips screwdriver, the bolts that hold the plate and fasten the base of the ceiling to the ceiling are unscrewed.

The four wires you will disconnect should be marked. Two of them are mass, and the obligatory "+" and "-". When disconnecting the wires, mark them so that there are no problems during assembly. If the new bulb is on, then you can not disassemble further.

The directional light cover is removed in the same way, pry off with a flat screwdriver and removed from the socket in the ceiling sheathing. Then make marks on the wires and disconnect them. Initially, all contacts are marked during assembly at the factory, but often under working conditions in a cramped and poorly lit cabin, the marks are hard to see.

Attention

Any instruction for working with electrical appliances says that repairs must be started by turning off the power. Disconnect the battery, de-energize the network. A small amount of voltage in the lighting circuit is not life-threatening, but if you accidentally short it, you can get a serious electric shock. You can find any repair and maintenance operations on the video, but they assume that you know the rules for handling electrical equipment.

Faulty light bulb

The most common reason for the failure of fixtures in the cabin. Remove the light bulb and check it on a tester or in another way. If it burns, then look for the cause of the breakdown further by dismantling the lamp. When assembling the ceiling, you can put an old lamp, only it has served for a long time, and its resource has been exhausted, so it is better to replace it immediately, then you will not have to remove the diffuser again soon.

Circuit breakers

Checking the fuses is easy. The wire goes through the interior lighting to the feet, so just make sure that when you press the brake, the signals on the rear lights light up. If there is no contact, then the box is located under the hood on the right and it has a diagram indicating the location of each fuse. Loosen the screws and remove the cover. The replacement will take a few seconds. Just in case, you need to have a 7.5A fuse in stock, because with any short circuit of the interior and trunk lighting, dimensions and turns, it is he who burns out.

Connections broken

If the VAZ 2109 does not have interior lighting on, then the cause may be bad contacts. For example, when forced on, the general interior lighting turns on, but when the door is opened, it does not. Remove the diffuser and bend the copper plate to which the thin pin from the door wire goes.

In most cases, this is not enough and the copper strip will not reliably close the contact. Then wrap a thin wire at the point of contact with the pin, or place a rubber ring under the plate. This will ensure reliable contact. Be sure to turn off the power.

broken wire

After dismantling the ceiling, check the integrity of the wires with a tester. This breakdown requires complex repairs, so you can’t do it yourself. Contact specialized salons. The price of services often corresponds to the quality of work, it is not worth saving. When choosing a service station, pay attention to the guarantee that the masters give for their work and the conclusion of the contract.

If you are confident in your abilities, then there are photos of the electrical circuit of the car on the Internet, since you will not find it in the technical documentation.

door lighting

When landing in the car, the door illumination is turned on along with the dome light. If this does not happen, then they have one malfunction. The negative wire goes to the ceiling lamp through the BSK LED. If the wires are broken, the fuses are blown, and the contact switches do not work, the interior may not be illuminated. In this case, you should not start by dismantling the interior lighting bulb, but by checking the contacts and wires that go to the door illumination.

When the BSK bulbs are working normally, and testing showed a break in the negative wire on the ceiling, this happened only in the gap from the door to the ceiling. You can fix such a breakdown yourself, since only one core needs to be replaced, without violating the circuit. First make sure the contacts work, clean them. Test the wire itself. Don't forget to de-energize the system.

When replacing any wire, select the same color of insulating coating. This will help you or the auto electricians of the service station to quickly figure out in the event of a serious breakdown.

Contacts are oxidized

Contacts require constant attention and periodic cleaning from dirt deposits and the formation of a film of chemical compounds when interacting with oxygen. The most rapidly oxidized are the junctions of various metals. Copper is resistant to the formation of an oxide film, so it can work for a long time without maintenance.

Model VAZ 21093

If the interior lighting does not work for the VAZ 21093, then you should not look for specific reasons and wiring diagrams only for this model. Since the modifications differ only in the engine, their electrics are exactly the same. Feel free to use the recommendations for the entire range of models from 2108 to 21099.

Additional lighting

You can beautifully decorate the interior with LEDs, make an original car, and on simple models of cars. In VAZ 21209 and VAZ 21093, interior lighting is often supplemented by footwell lighting. When the door is opened, the power of the BSC bulbs is not enough to illuminate the driver's seat in the foot area. The central dome gives diffused light, but the steering wheel and front panel create a shadow. Any accidentally dropped object will create inconvenience when landing in the dark.

Based on the location of the wiring, plus it is most convenient to connect from the cigarette lighter. The minus is taken from the BSC at the point of tap to the interior ceiling lamp on the driver's door. Then the backlight will turn on when the front left door is opened. A directional light can be placed near the floor anywhere and create additional light for any passenger at the time of boarding.

A more complex option, when the connection is completely tied to the interior lighting. In this case, the negative wire is laid from the ceiling lamp, and the footlight works in the forced switching on of the ceiling lamp.

Modern LED bulbs allow you to create various options for light tuning the interior. You can make multi-colored indicators on the instruments or create a panel backlight at any connection point. Passengers will be amazed when you turn on the many spotlights in the headlining. Weak light sources due to the large number will provide good visibility inside the car.

When creating unusual lighting, you must have certain knowledge and skills in the installation of DC electrical circuits. It is most convenient to connect to the wiring system from the junction under the trim to the left of the driver's feet in front of the door.

Permanent + like with chia, cons - either from the open door button or from the ground on the bolt (both are on the interior harness)

PS: minus on the screw - in the area of \u200b\u200bthe left door at a distance of about 5-10 cm from the door towards the pedals at a height of about 10 cm.

ZYY: minus from the right (right) door(s) passes through a 2-pin connector (2nd contact — handbrake). If the floor is flooded, the ceiling usually starts to fail when the door is opened and sometimes (much less often) the handbrake light.

At night, most drivers rarely turn on the lights inside the car. But when they do not work, the operation of the car becomes uncomfortable. Getting into the car is complicated, especially for passengers.

Interior lighting (interior lighting) of VAZ 2108, 2109, 21099 vehicles and their modifications includes a ceiling lamp for interior lighting, a lamp for individual lighting, lighting for heater levers, lighting for the cigarette lighter, lighting for the instrument panel, and lighting for the outdoor lighting switch key.

Features of the electrical circuit for switching on the interior lighting of the passenger compartment of VAZ 2108, 2109, 21099

  • The interior lighting dome is under constant voltage. It lights up when any of the doors is opened, since the ceiling light switch (“limit switch”) built into the door pillar (there are four in 2109 and two in 2108) closes to ground. With the doors closed, the "limit switches" are open and the "minus" goes to the ceiling from another wire connected to the body. In this case, the plafond is turned on by pressing the button.
  • The individual lighting dome is under constant voltage and is switched on by turning the dome light.
  • The illumination lamps for the instrument panel, cigarette lighter, heater levers, illumination of the outdoor lighting switch key turn on after pressing the outdoor lighting switch (second position).

Notes and additions

On a number of VAZ 2108, 2109 vehicles (standard equipment) produced before 1998, a ceiling lamp for individual lighting was not installed, but there was wiring to it.
