Briefly about the shortcomings of the second generation Kia cerate with mileage. Weaknesses and shortcomings of the second generation Kia cerate

19.11.2016

The second generation is one of the creations of the world famous German designer Peter Schreyer. After joining the company kia”, all cars of this brand received bright design and signature tiger grin, and cerate is no exception. But the average buyer is more interested not in appearance, but in the reliability and practicality of the car, you see, no one needs a constantly breaking, uncomfortable, but beautiful car. Fortunately, Kia engineers managed to combine beauty, comfort and reliability, but there were some drawbacks, and we'll talk about them today.

A bit of history:

Kia cerate of the first generation was produced in South Korea. In its homeland, the car was called " Kia K3 and went on sale in 2003. In other markets, the car went on sale in 2004 and under different names: in Europe, Australia, Brazil and the CIS - Cerato, in the USA - Spectra. According to a number of online publications, cerate immediately became a "bestseller" in many countries. for a long time took the lead in sales. The second generation of the model was presented in 2009 at the motor show in Los Angeles. New compared to previous version, had absolutely new look, which corresponded to the new design concept Kia car. If the first generation was produced in a sedan and hatchback body, then in the second generation, instead of a hatchback, they began to produce cars in a coupe body (produced since 2010). All over the world, the model was sold under the name "Kia Forte", and in some countries, including the CIS, the former name was retained, due to the desire of the representative office to save on the promotion of the new model.

In the CIS, the car has been officially sold since March 2009. The second-generation Kia Cerato was built on the cheaper Kia Sid platform, and "" was also built on it. Compared to the previous generation, the updated Cerato has become a little wider and longer. Also, it has been increased wheelbase, which has a positive effect on the stability and controllability of the car. At the same time, the clearance was reduced by one centimeter, which in turn had a positive effect on aerodynamic performance. In 2009, at the auto show in Seoul was presented hybrid version Kia cerate, this concept Korean engineers equipped gasoline engine 1.6, and a 15kW 20hp motor powered by a lithium polymer battery. It is worth noting that such a battery was first used in the automotive industry. Unlike "", which has a big difference in appearance between American and European version, Cerate has only one difference - the color of the direction indicator in rear lights(V American version it is red, and in European it is orange). The second generation of Kia cerate was produced until 2013, after which the third generation of this model replaced it.

Advantages and disadvantages of the second generation Kia cerate with mileage

The paintwork of the Kia Cerato is very thin, plus it is made on a water basis, as a result, scratches and chips on the car body appear quickly enough. On specimens older than three years, chrome elements begin to peel off, and paint on the trunk lid, rear doors, arches and pillars may also begin to swell windshield. Despite this, foci of corrosion on cars in their native paint appear extremely rarely. As with most budget cars, headlights mist up during temperature changes, and their glazing is often covered with cracks. Due to poor seal rear doors in rainy weather, moisture gets into the cabin.

Power units

Kia cerate is equipped with simple atmospheric gasoline engines - 1.6 (125 hp) and 2.0 (150 hp). European and American copies, in addition to the above two engines, are also equipped with power units - gasoline 2.4 (176 hp), diesel 1.6 (140 hp) and turbodiesel 1.6 (128 hp). Some Kia owners Cerate complain that after starting a cold engine, from the area of \u200b\u200bthe power unit, they hear extraneous sounds. This sound is very much like the clatter of valves, as a rule, appears after 50,000 km of run. In most cases, the source of this knock is the timing chain, or rather its tensioner, and if the tensioner is not replaced in time, the chain jumps, and then the fatal meeting of the valves with the pistons is inevitable.

When buying a car with a mileage of 80-100 thousand km, I would recommend replacing the tensioner along with the chain. I will explain why, the replacement will cost a lot, about 200 USD, but this will protect you from possible troubles for 70-100 thousand kilometers. At 120-130 thousand kilometers, the engine starts to eat up oil, in order to eliminate this drawback, you have to change valve stem seals and rings. IN very coldy most cerates do not start, this is due to the fact that the grease in the solenoid relay is not intended for operation in cold weather, and as a result, it thickens a lot. With a run of 100,000 km, the starter, thermostat and pump fail.

Transmission

Initially, a five-speed manual and a four-speed automatic were installed on the Kia Cerato. In 2010, there was a slight technical upgrade, after which they began to use a six-speed manual and automatic transmission. A manual transmission, closer to 50,000 km, begins to hum when driving in reverse gear, and with increasing mileage, the hum will only intensify. To fix the problem, it is necessary to replace the clutch kit, in the official service they ask for about 400 USD for this. Release bearing on this machine, sounding, so do not be surprised if you squeeze the clutch and you hear a whistle and a squeak. Replacing the bearing solves the problem for a short time, for a maximum of 15,000 km. Many owners, in order not to listen to the annoying squeak, lubricate the bearing and fork area with special grease.

To the reliability of the four-stage automatic box there are no complaints about gears, but a six-speed one can present an unpleasant surprise. So, in particular, the owners complain about the rush of the hose, which diverts transmission oil for cooling. The explanation of the problem is simple, for some time defective hoses were supplied to the production. In most cases, this defect was repaired under warranty. Also, after 100,000 km of run, the valve body and the selector sensor (inhibitor) fail.

Driving performance Kia cerate with mileage

The suspension of the Kia Cerato has changed a lot compared to the previous version - in front, as before, a MacPherson-type suspension was installed, but in the back, instead of a comfortable multi-link, they began to install an indestructible semi-independent beam. Knocks in the cerate suspension appear early enough, but you should not be afraid of them, since these inconveniences are caused by the detached shock absorber boot. The problem is solved easily and inexpensively, you need to install the anther in place and fix it with clamps.

Like most modern cars most often you will have to change the stabilizer struts and bushings, about once every 30-40 thousand km. Front shock absorbers, depending on operating conditions, live 50-80 thousand km, rear shock absorbers up to 150,000 km, but rear springs can sink already to 100,000 km. After 60,000 km, you need to monitor the condition of the CV joint boot, since on many specimens it is on this run that cracks appear on it, which negatively affects the resource of the CV joint itself. Silent blocks, wheel bearings, ball bearings with careful operation will last about 100,000 km. steering rack here it is very weak and by 60,000 km 80% of cars require replacement or repair.

Outcome:

The second generation is a reliable and fairly easy to maintain car. Despite all the shortcomings, cerate remains one of the most interesting options in the budget up to 11000 c.u.

Advantages:

  • Design
  • Low price for spare parts.
  • Moderate fuel consumption.
  • Roomy trunk.

Flaws:

  • Weak paintwork.
  • Weak soundproofing.
  • Small ground clearance.
  • Over time, crickets appear in the cabin.

Good day to all. I decided to write a review about owning this KIA Cerato of the 1st generation restyled. A little about the characteristics. Manual transmission Power: 122 hp is written everywhere, but I have 121 hp in the PTS, it doesn’t bother)) Equipment: ABS, traction control, climate control (single-zone), power windows (all), heated electric mirrors, fog lights, front seat popgrey, also additionally installed parking sensors. I'll tell you about the choice of car. Prior to that, I drove a Rover 416, a Honda CRV of the 1st generation, and before Cerato, I drove for 4 years KIA Spectra, good car dashed off 100 thousand without any problems. Probably after Spectra I decided for myself about second-hand Koreans as value for money. The budget for the purchase was 350 tr. and I started looking at Cerate data. There was an idea to get to Cerate in the second body, but then there was no money left after the purchase for the first MOT. I took the car with a mileage of 51 thousand, it looked like new in the cabin, the previous owner drove only from work to work and it can be seen right away, nothing has been erased and the interior is clean and there were no complaints about the bodywork. Immediately after the purchase, I changed the oil in the engine, gearbox and drive belt with rollers. Everything came out about 10 tr. We also bought new wheels and summer tires. this moment I own a car for the 2nd year and the glow is almost 50 thousand, now the mileage is 107 thousand. The car fully justifies itself as reliable and with inexpensive maintenance. Although it is clear that this car a budget option, it suits me with my earnings at the moment. Since the machine is no longer produced, I will no longer divide the car into advantages and disadvantages, but I will simply talk about it in parts. Body: not old and not boring external design, looks pretty good. The paintwork of course from time to time somewhere has scratches and in front of the pebbles at the points, especially the bumper, it is not noticeable, of course, but there is. Engine: chain engine, which is very good and don't think about timing belt mileage. The dynamics of the engine is good, it’s quite when you drive a truck at 70-80 km per hour on the highway, you can drive in fifth and also overtake by pressing the gas and accelerate (although you still click on the lower one when heavily loaded). Suspension: strong and reliable, for almost two years and 50 thousand. mileage has not changed since the purchase and check it every six months. Of course, then I understand that something big can fly, but I'm ready for this, and it won't be expensive. The ground clearance is 160 mm and it suits me very much, I go several times a year to the Tambov region. to the village, there, to the entrance to the village and in the village itself, the roads are not very good, I sometimes struck on the Spectra, I don’t catch on Cerat. by itself, the car does not throw and does not skid. Salon: the interior is spacious, light color. I feel comfortable with my height of 190 cm and the rear passenger is comfortable. The review is good and pleased with the visibility of the blind zone at the driver's mirror. What did not like it green color dashboard, changed to white with blue. Trunk: roomy, the rear seat backs fold down and you can put a long load, but not higher than the arch. Fuel consumption in the city with moderate driving is up to 8.5 liters, on the highway 6.1-6.5 liters. If you press on the floor in each gear, the flow rate increases to 14 liters (checked). Also, I drove 700 km along the highway on a full tank and there was still a margin of about 80-100 km (all this at a speed not higher than 120 km. h. In general, who needs reliable car And How workhorse and how a used car for a family can be considered this option and in this price category. Good luck to everyone!

If you do not want to overpay for the prestige of the brand, we advise you to take a closer look at Korean models. One of the most popular in the C-class, beloved by Ukrainians - Kia Cerato. How has this car stood the test of time?

A Korean with a sonorous Italian name and Ukrainian registration - this is the "pedigree" Kia models Cerato (read "Cherato"), which since the end of 2005 has been assembled in our country, at the Lutsk Automobile Plant, using the SKD method. Moreover, almost all officially sold Cerato are of Ukrainian assembly.

Kia Cerato 2004-2009 from $9,800 to $16,500
Light, pretty

The bodies of this model are characterized by moderate corrosion resistance. The places most susceptible to the “red” disease are the hood, the paintwork of which suffers from “bombardment” by stones, and the trunk lid for versions with a regular wing.
According to the results of EuroNCAP crash tests in 2006, Cerato won 3 stars out of 5 possible, so in serious accidents it's better not to hit it.

The interior of Cerato is quite attractive and elegant - on most cars, light-colored materials are used in interior trim. But during operation, such a skin is easily dirty. For this reason, on copies of the first years of production, it may look unattractive. To protect light-colored seats, some owners put covers on them.

Visibility from the driver's seat forward is not bad, but back it is slightly limited by the high feed and the headrests of the gallery. Noise isolation is average.

The backs of the rear seats are a little littered back, so the landing is semi-recumbent. By the way, this creates the impression of a large space in the gallery. However, it is actually quite enough, even for tall passengers.

rear passengers V expensive versions two retractable cup holders and an ashtray will please ... Even a tall passenger can sit behind a tall driver, and there is enough space on the seat for three not very large people. Rear passengers in expensive versions will be pleased with two retractable cup holders and an ashtray ... ... and the driver - the presence of four electric drives power windows (in basic versions"electrified" only the front). What should be checked?

During the operation of Cerato, problems were noted with its central lock - it can spontaneously close the doors. This malfunction is eliminated by replacing one of the two front control locks.

The immobilizer control unit also creates problems - sometimes it fails and does not recognize the chip built into the ignition key. As a result, the engine does not start. The driver himself will be able to determine the occurrence of this problem by the signal red lamp on the instrument panel (car symbol), which in this case does not light up.

And this car also has troubles with regular speakers - their diffuser often comes off, and the speakers characteristically wheeze. However, the owner can solve this problem on his own by carefully gluing the diffuser.

As domestic operating experience has shown, there are no serious problems in Cerato motors. And the characteristic problems are minor, and a lot of money will not be required to eliminate them.

Reliable Hearts

In Ukraine, Cerato was sold with one of three powertrains: two petrol 1.6 and 2.0 liters and one turbodiesel 1.6 liters. The most affordable 1.6-liter modifications are the most common, 2.0-liter modifications are slightly less popular, and turbodiesels are much less common.

serious problems Cerato motors Dont Have. Of the characteristic, we note possible loss tightness of the cooling system hoses. The tube of the interior air conditioning system was often bent under the housing of the cooling fan, due to which, over time, the tube frays and the system depressurizes. Cars released in 2006 were distinguished by unreliable individual ignition coils, which often failed. All other machines have no problems with these nodes. As, however, with the proprietary CVVT variable valve timing system, thanks to which the engines have good traction in a wide speed range.

The timing of both 1.6-liter units is equipped with a metal chain that lasts the entire life of the motor. The 2.0 liter engine uses toothed belt, which is changed along with the tension and guide rollers every 60 thousand km. With the same mileage, you must install new belt attachments.

Cylinder heads (cylinder head) gasoline engines equipped with shims. However, according to operating experience, adjust thermal gaps valves are rare - to 300-350 thousand km. And in the timing of turbodiesels, hydraulic compensators are used.

There are no complaints about turbodiesel units either - no characteristic problems have been identified in them.

In Ukraine, gasoline modifications are most common, and the most “massive” one is 1.6-liter. Sedans are more popular in our country than hatchbacks (pictured), which are rare. Need to be lubricated

Most of the vehicles in use domestic roads, equipped mechanical boxes gears. Finding a version with an "automatic" will be very difficult.
According to experts, Cerato gearboxes do not have serious shortcomings. Unless in the "mechanics" there is a loss of tightness of the seals of the gearshift wings. As a rule, this is observed in cars that have traveled over 50 thousand km. In addition, semi-axle oil seals may prematurely lose their tightness.

The clutch is equipped with a reliable hydraulic drive. The only thing that can upset the owner is the creak of the clutch fork rod. However, this problem easily eliminated by lubricating the friction surfaces.

The maintenance of gearboxes consists in checking the tightness and changing the lubricant: in the manual gearbox - every 90 thousand km, in the automatic transmission - every 60 thousand km.

Serviceable chassis Kia Cerato is soft and comfortable, but its most important advantage is durability. The only complaint about the suspension of post-styling versions (since 2006) is the unpleasant sound of shock absorbers.

Problem areas of the car Door locks over time, they begin to creak, and it is recommended to lubricate them by special means(for example, WD-40). Sometimes the glass is wedged in the guides of the door frames. The solution to the problem is lubricating the guides. The service life of the bushings and struts of the suspension stabilizer is 30 thousand km. The rest of the parts will last much longer. The hood suffers from stone impacts - it begins to rust. The trunk lid also corrodes at the junction with the standard wing. Characteristic disadvantage- the tube of the air conditioning system during assembly can be bent under the housing of the cooling fan, due to which it frays over time. What is knocking?

Serviceable chassis Cerato is quite soft and comfortable. But its most important advantage is its high durability. The main "consumables" are able to withstand a run of 150 thousand km. Such a resource, according to the employees of the company service, have silent blocks of the front levers and ball bearings, as well as the "gum" of the rear "multi-link". Most often - after 30 thousand km - it will be necessary to replace the bushings and stabilizer struts roll stability. Another plus in the content - most of the "consumables" of the front and rear suspension changed separately. Exception - rear bearings, which are supplied together with the hub (spare part - about 1.5 thousand UAH). These bearings will last about 100 thousand km.
the only serious problem suspensions of post-styling versions - the knock of shock absorbers. This is the peculiarity of their work - while they are considered serviceable. There are owners who eliminate this drawback by installing repair liners some manufacturers.

Reechnoe steering all vehicles are equipped hydraulic booster. This unit is reliable - even the fastest wearing tips can last up to 100 thousand km, and steering rods - even longer. The only weak point is the hose high pressure, losing tightness in places of rolling. Such a malfunction was noted in cars with a mileage of more than 50 thousand km.

Brake system equipped with disc mechanisms front and rear wheels, is quite effective. During operation, attention should be paid to the caliper guides. When replacing the pads, it is recommended to lubricate them, otherwise they begin to knock unpleasantly. ABS system quite reliable in operation.

By trunk volume sedan Cerato inferior to its competitors - 405 l Chevrolet Lacetti with the same body type and 460 - at Nissan Almera classic. To fold the rear seats, you need to pull the handle. Behind the version after restyling (photo on the left) is easy to distinguish by the transparent strip of the lamp diffuser reversing, located on the left, and a modified bumper with built-in red "foglights". Recommended to try

So this budget model worth the money spent on it, and we can recommend it to those buyers who are looking for a "fresh" and not so prestigious car for little money.

Drivers about Kia Cerato Konstantin Operates a car for 4 years, mileage - 80 thousand km

I have hatchback Kia Cerato 1.6 l with "mechanics". In general, the car is strong and unpretentious. Among the shortcomings, I note the noisy front suspension, light "crickets" in the front panel and weak optics. Even the installation of xenon 4000 K helped little. Main disadvantage- when starting a cold engine, the bendix crunches, and they shrug at the service station - they say, this is a design feature: it is installed under the clutch basket and dust gets into the starter. I found out on the site of "cheratovodov" - no one seems to have such a problem.

Yury Operates a car for 2 years, mileage - 90 thousand km

The machine as a whole is successful and quite hardy. I have diesel version 1.6 CRDI. By the way, the engine noise in the cabin is almost inaudible. But the suspension is loud, and, as I managed to find out on the website of the “cheratovods”, this is a feature of the shock absorbers. The motor is very economical - in the city you can fit into the consumption of about 5 liters per 100 km, and outside the city - even less. For 2 years of operation, I dashed off 90 thousand km, and during this time I only changed the "gum bands" twice front stabilizer. There was a problem with starting the engine - as it turned out, the immobilizer failed. After replacing everything works great. Significant remark - a weak paintwork. The hood was severely damaged from stone impacts, and pockets of rust appeared in the places of chips. I had to fix them myself by touching up. But in general, I am satisfied with the machine and I am not going to sell it.

In April 2010, I became the owner of a 2007 Cerato with a 1.6, 122 hp engine. With. with variable valve timing. Options - EX, which includes power windows, climate control, traction control (TCS), ABS and 2 front airbags. Manual transmission, all disc brakes. Before Cerato, I drove 7 years on our cars - first on a troika, then on a seven, then on a dozen, and my wife also has a Peugeot 206, so I will compare with them.

At the time of purchase, the car was in excellent condition The owner followed. Mileage 50,000 km. For 3 months I dashed off 7500 thousand km on it. Traveled both in the city and on long distance(from 200 to 600 km).

In general, I am very pleased with the car. I bought it for 350 thousand rubles, and considered the usual set as alternatives budget sedans class C - Focus, Lancer 9, Lacetti, Elantra of the previous generation and Prioru is not serious. It somehow didn’t work out with the Focus right away for me - at one time I traveled a lot on it as a passenger, so I managed to get bored inside, and there are a lot of them on the streets, I wanted something more original. Lancer stupidly did not find with a 1.8-2 liter engine. There were options, but 2005-2006 with a run of a hundred. The parents of a friend Lancer. I sat in it before buying Cerato and after. Honestly, I feel more comfortable in Cerato. Again, Lancer has air conditioning, and my car has climate. Also scared away high (according to numerous friends) the price of spare parts. With a 1.6 engine, Lancer did not want to, because he really does not pull with air conditioning. The Elantra is not a bad car, but the design of the front panel is just a nightmare in my opinion. I could not bring myself to buy it by any arguments of logic. I traveled to the Lacetti more than once as a passenger, I have nothing against it, but the reviews from the owners are mostly abusive, so I didn’t particularly consider them. In a word, I suffered for a long time with a choice and accidentally saw an advertisement for the sale of Cerato. We looked, went to the officials for diagnostics and I bought it.

It feels like the car is very spacious inside, much wider than a dozen. Very comfortable front seats (didn't ride in the back). I set it up for myself for a long time (height 185, weight 120 kg), but after I set it up, I really sit down like in a home chair. Both hands on the armrests and go! It’s a pity that in my configuration the steering wheel is adjustable only in height, because I would like to pull it out a bit on myself. But maybe it's because of my predilection for a "recumbent" landing. By the way, follow me when fully retracted driving seat I can sit down quite calmly, but in ten and Accent you sit like a cellist, spreading your legs.

The climate pleased, especially in the heat that is now standing. In 3-4 minutes it becomes cool in the car (but not cold). I set the temperature to 23 degrees and, depending on my mood, I either send a chill to myself or to the ceiling. On the machine, I sometimes turn on the climate when I'm too lazy to follow it myself or I'm walking along the highway. On the track, even at a temperature of 35-38 in the shade, 3-4 divisions are enough (there are 8 in total).

The engine power is enough for me so far, and this despite the fact that I sometimes like to drive, including and play checkers around the city. At first, I fussed a lot, switched from 3rd to 2nd in turns, and then I realized that the car was already pulling normally, i.e., for example, in a 90-degree turn, you can safely drive into 3rd, or even 4th transmission at a speed of 40 km/h. On the highway, in general, in most cases, you can drive an hour or two exclusively in 5th gear. the car normally accelerates on it from 60 km / h. If you need to overtake sharply, then of course you “stick” the 3rd or 4th depending on the speed.

Compared to our "basin" there is absolutely no sense of speed. Quite imperceptibly, you dial a hundred on free sections in the city, and on the highway at a speed of 120 you can talk without raising your voice even with passengers on back seat. As for the upper limit - I accelerated to 200, I would have gone more, but for some reason they blinked ABS sensors And traction control system. Stopped, shut it off, started it, all the flickering was gone. On the highway, it is optimal to drive in the range from 120 to 170 km / h. At 170, you can overtake without hesitation, there is still a reserve under the gas pedal and the car accelerates normally.

Of the shortcomings that "came out" during this time.

First, the car is low. The ground clearance here is 160 mm, the dozens had 175 in my opinion, but these 15 mm are just not enough. Several times I had to touch the "scallops" on the track, and in the city I had to scratch the curbs with protection, which I easily moved on the top ten. I note that this did not lead to any consequences. I feel in the winter I still suffer with ruts ...

Secondly, worthless full-time acoustics. The radio tape recorder from the previous owner went to Prology 2-DIN. At first I thought it was her. I put my trusted Pioneer in, the sound is much better, but the right front speaker is still rattling on the bass. I will soon change to normal speakers, especially since the doors have already been taped in 3 layers.

Thirdly, the insulation of the front arches is not very good. Sand and puddles can be heard in the cabin.

Fourthly, the brake pedal is in my opinion too large free play, but perhaps this is due to the fact that it is time to change discs with pads after 5 thousand.

Fifth, sometimes (1 time out of 5-7) reverse gear turns on with a bang. I read this on the forum owners of Cerato- the disease of this car.

During my ownership of this car, so far I have only had to change master cylinder clutch. I looked at the purchase, then I realized that the gears sometimes turn on too tightly. The cylinder had to wait a week and a half (made and ordered from the officials). The original cylinder cost 2500, replacement and adjustment - 1000 rubles. It's not too expensive for me. Big plus Cerato - chain drive not the timing belt.

The interior of the car is light gray, fabric. The previous owner went on covers, I took them off to show the car to the family in all its glory, but I never put it back on. Painfully I like it when the inside of the car is light and spacious. I responsibly declare that for 3 months of not too sparing operation, the seats did not get dirty. Small inevitable spots from chocolates and any other nonsense are easily wiped off with an ordinary damp cloth.

There is a very interesting moment during acceleration. When you turn on 2nd gear and gas to the floor, the engine at first makes noise and accelerates sluggishly, and then the car seems to be kicked in the ass (feelings are similar to a kickdown on an automatic machine) and it piles up be healthy. I intuitively associate this with changing the valve timing, but maybe I'm wrong. In all other gears, acceleration is smooth without jerks and pickups.

In principle, whatever he wanted, he said. I will be glad if someone can help with the choice.
