Kia Mohave is a well-known car in the domestic market, although not quite appreciated by the Russian consumer. This medium-sized frame SUV was introduced back in 2008 at the Detroit Auto Show, and a year later it appeared in the expanses of the post-Soviet space.

The change in the technical characteristics of the new Kia Mohave also went through the evolution and adaptation of the model to the realities of the Russian market. As already noted, in our country, the manufacturer abandoned the expanded range of power units, leaving only a three-liter diesel engine with a capacity of 250 horsepower and working "in tandem" with an automatic transmission.
The difference between the engine is the relatively low fuel consumption, which in the combined cycle is 9.3 liters per hundred kilometers. The indicator, of course, is not a record, but taking into account the volume and power characteristics, it looks very impressive.
The overall dimensions of the Kia Mojave have not changed significantly - it is still a large mid-size SUV, characterized by high capacity. With a car length of 4930 mm, its wheelbase is 2895 mm, so passengers do not feel cramped. However, calling the Mojave a classic SUV is unlikely to succeed, since the engineers used a multi-link rear suspension design, coupled with a lever front suspension, in the design. Design
The restyled Mohave, which, as you might guess from the name, was originally developed for the North American market, seems as boring as its predecessor, and there is hardly anyone who will gasp with surprise and delight when they see it on the road. There is still nothing remarkable in the appearance of a large Kia Motors SUV - to this day it is a “workhorse” and nothing more. But the “horse” has updated bumpers, a radiator grille and 18-inch wheel rims, as well as LED running lights above the fog optics. And the color scheme of the model was replenished with blue and brown shades. Here, actually, and all innovations.
The new chrome grille is nothing special, as is the head optics around the edges. From the side, a car with American roots looks no more interesting than a UAZ Patriot, but a domestic car costs almost half as much! Changing the pattern of light alloy wheels did not greatly affect the situation. The "stern" of the updated Mohave is purely practical - with plain lanterns that extend onto the rear fenders and a huge trunk lid. Behind the tailgate is a truly chic amount of cargo space, which is good news. With two rows of seats folded down, this volume reaches 2.7 cubic meters, which, given the flat floor, allows you to easily organize full-fledged sleeping places. No wonder the car was designed for the USA! There was no electric drive at the tailgate (only a regular door closer is provided), and the opening is small for people whose height exceeds 180 cm.
Design
The basis of the restyled version of Mohave is the old frame structure: it has a double wishbone suspension in front, and a multi-link in the back. For a surcharge, a rear air suspension is offered (and a self-locking limited-slip rear differential), but it should be borne in mind that on severe off-road it will be of little use, since the design of the SUV is characterized by crossover habits, and the clearance of the crossover model is only 195 mm, although the manufacturer claims that under the bottom as much as 217 mm. For serious cross-country driving, the ground clearance is frankly modest.
Adaptation to Russian conditions
Mohave 2017 model year is definitely an option for the city and light off-road, and not for extreme Russian conditions, even despite the presence of a frame and all-wheel drive. It is not ideally prepared for operation in Russia, but not bad either: it has an 82-liter fuel tank with steel protection and a jack hidden in an organizer under the floor of the cargo compartment, as well as a full-size spare wheel, an emergency button for calling emergency services in case of an Era -Glonass", stabilization system, assistant when starting uphill and separate climate control. For winter, heating of exterior mirrors, front and rear seats, steering wheel and windshield in the rest area of the “wipers” is provided. In addition, there is an electric interior heater.
Comfort
The interior of the Mohave is American-style spacious, you can’t say anything about it. It can be seen that it is designed for a large and friendly family that takes a lot of things with them on the road and does not forget about paper cups with coffee from McDonald's - the local coasters seem to be specially created for them. Seven seats are a good family solution, but if something happens, it’s better to place children on the last row - adults definitely won’t like it there, because the third row is not suitable for tall passengers, and it’s not very easy for adults to climb on it. Of the innovations in the interior, there is a leather multifunction steering wheel with a wooden insert and electric height/reach adjustment, a more thoughtful dashboard with a classic layout and a large eight-inch touchscreen of the multimedia complex. The left spoke of the steering wheel, unfortunately, somewhat overlaps the control unit for the all-wheel drive transmission, suspension and road stability system - you have to press the buttons and turn the “washer” by touch or momentarily be distracted from the road to see what is where. The headlight washer button is not too well located.
The layout of the climate control unit (3 zones) is logical and understandable, the “climate” control is already available in the initial configuration. Automatic windows went only to the front doors, and the manufacturer decided to save on the rear. On the ceiling there are air ducts, a ceiling light, sun visors with a retractable section and an electric sunroof (the sunroof is in the top version). The front seats can not boast of a perfect fit, but you quickly get used to them. Driver's seat - with adjustable lumbar support. For the first time, perforated quilted Nappa leather is used for the seating of the SUV - however, this is the privilege of the most expensive Premium option, as is the armrest with a refrigerated drink box.
The Mohave comes standard with front and side airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS), stability control (ESC) and hill-climb assist (HAC), cruise control, park assist and a rain sensor. For an additional fee, now you can get blind spot monitoring (BSD) and 4 all-round video cameras (AVM), showing the situation in front and behind in various variations. There are no more security innovations.
The Mohave infotainment system and speakers have been updated. From now on, JBL speakers and a media system with an eight-inch color touchscreen, navigation, steering wheel controls, Bluetooth and AUX / USB connectors for connecting mobile devices, as well as support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto technologies, are installed on the car. The processor of the new "multimedia" 2-core, 1 GHz, RAM - 1 GB, OS - Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. The sound of the system is excellent, the graphics are decent, but the responses to finger presses are not very fast, and the navigator, which is capable of showing houses in 3D, sometimes gets confused in the readings.

This year, Kia Motors has implemented a large-scale update of the premium mid-size SUV of the Mojave series. The updated version of Kia Mojave 2019 received a more modern and functional body design, the most comfortable interior and improved technical characteristics of standard equipment.
In the European market, the new model will be presented in modifications with front- and all-wheel drive chassis, five- and seven-seat body, several transmission options.
The full face of the novelty differs from its predecessor in small details, including the angle of the windshield and the presence of multi-level optics. The latest generation SUV also retained the corporate identity features characteristic of the lineup and got rid of elements of aggressive decor.

There is a small, taking into account the premium class of the car, a multimedia monitor, several air deflectors and a volume glove box closed by a curtain. The design of the tunnel is focused on the highest possible level of road comfort.
