Model creation
The first passenger car under the designation "Rapid" was produced by the Skoda company, which is currently part of the Volkswagen concern, in 1935. The small car was produced until 1947 and had several versions: sedan, convertible, coupe. The return of the Rapid brand took place in 1984. This name was given to a two-door car in the performance of a coupe. Škoda began production of the existing third generation in 2012. The Skoda company explains this by low demand due to the fact that domestic buyers prefer larger cars in the station wagon body.
SHOWHOLD
In 2013, the Czech manufacturer Skoda introduced the Rapid station wagon model, which was named Spaceback. The company expects that the launch of the novelty in production will help raise the prestige of cars of this brand and attract the attention of lovers of economical and compact cars.
According to some journalists, the Rapid station wagon is actually a 5-door hatchback. In a similar situation, the liftback of this model, which many at first considered a sedan, also found itself in a similar situation. This was the reason for the emergence of speculation that Czech engineers deliberately mix several styles in one body in order to artificially raise interest in their creations. Of course, due to originality alone, a model cannot be made popular, but, in combination with high quality and regularly updated design, it provides a good level of sales.
Exterior
The predecessor of the Spaseback and the basis for it was the Rapid with a liftback-style body. Moreover, as a result of the modernization, the combi version became 180 mm shorter than the donor (4300 mm) with the same base (2602 mm), height (1461 mm) and width (1706 mm). The ground clearance, which is 136 mm for the European version, was increased to 150 mm for Russian conditions. R14 or R15 wheels are installed on the basic equipment.
The front of the body largely repeats the liftback, despite some original features. The changes, in particular, affected the grille and the bumper, which housed the voluminous fog lights and a fairly large air intake.
But the rear has changed quite noticeably. A heavily raked pillar provides a smooth roof slope that flows into the tailgate. The stern is made in the traditional Skoda style: strictly, but harmoniously. The fifth door is more than half of the area consists of glass. A neat bumper, emphasizing the overall discreet design of the stern, is inferior in size to the front. In general, it can be stated that the designers were able to combine the best features of a hatchback and station wagon in one body.
Interior
In the cabin, compared to the liftback, there have also been changes. The center console and dashboard received other outlines. The design and material of the seats front and rear provide a decent level of comfort. Like the cabin of its predecessor, there is enough space for five people. The quality of finishes, functionality and ergonomics put the station wagon on a par with prestigious European brands.
Salon front is no different from the hatchback version
The poor “stuffing” of the basic modification is compensated by the ability to optionally install a large number of various additional “bells and whistles”: alloy wheels with an increased radius, xenon headlights, a panoramic roof, and a media system with touch control.
Reducing the length of the body, which did not affect the spaciousness of the cabin, significantly affected the reduction in the volume of the trunk. The Spaceback only holds 415 liters of cargo versus 515 liters for the liftback. If you fold the rear row, you can get 1380 liters, which, again, is 110 liters less than its predecessor.
Technical specifications
Spaceback is presented in traditional Skoda trim levels: the simplest - Active, the average - Ambition and the most expensive - Elegance. All of them are equipped with independent front suspension and rear torsion beam. The steering wheel turns are provided by an electromechanical amplifier, the brakes are disc brakes, and ABS is also present.
The motor range is very diverse. There are 2 diesel and 4 petrol options.
Both diesels are 1.6 TDI. Of these, the first develops a power of 90, and the second - 105 "horses". They work in conjunction with a five-speed "mechanics".
The gasoline segment is represented by the following "duets":
1.2 l 75-horsepower MPI with manual transmission-5;
1.2 l 105-horsepower TFSI with manual transmission-6;
1.4 l 122-horsepower TSI with a "robot" DSG 7 (this installation allows the car to accelerate to 206 km / h);
1.6 l 105-horsepower MPI with manual transmission-5.
Prices
Referring to the unfavorable economic situation, Skoda has several times postponed the launch of Spaceback sales in Russia. At present, the date of entry of the station wagon into the domestic market and its cost for Russian motorists is still unknown. In Europe, the price of the basic configuration starts from 13,500 euros.
Salon interior
The interior of the updated version of the Skoda Rapid 2018-2019 has changed significantly. The doors in the cabin received new overlays made of high-quality plastic. Air duct deflectors have improved in terms of aerodynamics. The dashboard and center console have become more recognizable. The design of the air conditioning control unit has been updated. The hallmark of the interior of Skoda cars has always been a compact body combined with a spacious interior. The length of the car body is 4.48 meters, the width is 1.70 meters, and the height is 1.47 meters. The ground clearance of the new Skoda Rapid is 150 mm. At the same time, the legroom in the cabin has been increased to 65 mm, and the ceiling height on the rear passenger seats has been increased to 972 mm.
Innovation
One of the innovations in the restyling of the ŠKODA Rapid 2018-2019 in the FL modification is the new bi-xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights. If necessary, you can install a light sensor on the car. This option allows you to adjust the intensity of lighting depending on the time of day and weather conditions. The intelligent system measures the level of ambient light in real time and, when a threshold value is exceeded, turns on the dipped beam headlights. The option functions both at dusk and in tunnels and other dark places. Outdoor lighting provides a comfortable and safe exit from the car.
The principle of operation of the automatic high beam control system is based on reading information from a high-precision sensor that operates at speeds above 60 km per hour and in the dark. If a passing vehicle is seen within 400 m (for oncoming vehicles, the threshold value is 1 kilometer), the system automatically switches the high beam headlights to low beam.

Installment plan
Subject to the payment by installments, the maximum benefit under the program can reach 70,000 rubles. A prerequisite for obtaining benefits is the size of the initial contribution of 50%.
An installment plan is issued as a car loan provided without overpayment relative to the original cost of the car for a period of 6 to 36 months, if there are no violations of the agreement with the bank during the payment process.
