Genesis- a brand of premium cars, which is a sub-brand of Hyundai Motor Company. Represented by two models of sedans G90 and G80.

Story

In the summer of 2015, Hyundai Motor introduced the Vision G, a two-door, four-seat coupe concept in the United States, as a styling prototype for the future family of premium cars. In November 2015, the company officially announced the creation of sub Genesis brand. Car models will receive an alphanumeric designation.

The second model of the brand, the Genesis G80 sedan, was presented at the North American Auto Show in Detroit in January 2016. The car is a restyled version of the second generation Hyundai Genesis model introduced in 2013. In June on international motor show in Busan, a modification of the Genesis G80 Sport was also presented, featuring a modified bumper, radiator grille, rear diffuser and having four pipes exhaust system.

In March 2016, at the New York Auto Show, Hyundai unveiled a concept sedan called the Genesis New York Concept, which may be the prototype of the G70.

The premiere of the Genesis G90 in Russia took place in September 2016. The presentation also revealed the manufacturer's plans to release seven models by 2020 under by Genesis, including three sedans, two crossovers, a sports coupe and a limousine, which is extended version sedan G90.

Design

The Genesis was a good car from the start. But technology does not stand still, because the new models that have been produced since 2014 have become even more modern and perfect. First of all, specialists improved the strength of the body - and all thanks to an increase in the proportion of high-strength steel (used in the structure) to 51.5 percent. As an option, by the way, it is offered with a sunroof. This is a kind of highlight of the Genesis model.

The car, the photo of which is provided above, is good in every way. Its interior is magnificent, because in the process of finishing only high-quality expensive materials were used. And one more option is the AEB system. Or, in other words, autonomous emergency braking. Required function. If the system notices that the distance of the vehicle has suddenly been reduced to the vehicle in front, it immediately reacts by applying the brakes. This happens due to the constant reading of the radiator signal (the SCC system works here - cruise control), as well as the analysis of the image coming from a camera equipped with a road marking tracking system. What can you tell about Genesis? The Hyundai car brand has always been famous for the attractiveness of its cars. And if ordinary sedans look pretty, then what can we say about such a premium model as the Genesis.

Another important topic that cannot be ignored when talking about the Genesis car. The Hyundai emblem itself is a definition of safety and quality. And it really is.

"Genesis" is equipped with nine airbags. There are rear, front, knee and even curtains. Protection from all sides, in other words.

There are also belts with the Pre-Safe Belt system. True, this is an option. But smart belts are worth ordering. Indeed, in the event of an accident, the pretensioners are activated, the person is “fixed” in the seat as tightly as possible.

Modern equipment

The Genesis car, the characteristics of which were described in great detail above, has a very rich package. Take, for example, the concept of intuitive control. Thanks to her, a person drives a car without thinking. The interface is very simple, it combines everything: the steering wheel, dashboard, as well as seat adjustment and center console.

There is also a system in the car all-round view, three-zone climate control, power seats (equipped with built-in memory for 2 drivers), a premium audio system and a color head-up display located on the windshield. Plus, there is an information system for the driver.

But that is not all. Useful features also include an electromechanical “handbrake”, parking sensors, a ventilation system for seats (there is also heating), as well as a key card and a rain sensor. In general, as you can see, Genesis has everything you might need. And that's what it does this car so popular and in demand.

Price

New Genesis model will cost about 2,330,000 rubles. The cost may differ depending on which salon a person plans to purchase a car. By the way, if you want to save money, you can look for second-hand options. The car will be in excellent, almost new condition, but with mileage, and for this a solid discount is usually given from the previous owner. So, for example, a 2014 model with a mileage of 36,000 kilometers can be purchased for just one and a half million rubles. And this, compared to the original price, is very cheap.

The first generation, however, will cost even less. Approximately 700 thousand rubles. But there the engine is weaker (2.0, 213 hp), and the equipment is more modest. In general, it is up to the person who wants to buy a car to decide.

Having spun off the Genesis premium brand from the parent brand Hyundai, the Koreans have never hidden their strategy for expanding into world markets. First Korea, then the USA and the Middle East, and the next bridgehead is Russia! Back in the days of the Moscow Motor Show, I managed to photograph the Genesis G90 flagship sedan with Russian numbers in the parking lot of the Crocus Expo exhibition center, on which the company's management arrived at the premiere of Creta. And now the official presentation of the Genesis brand in Russia has taken place.

With cars new brand readers of Autoreview, so now the most interesting strategy for their promotion in Russia. Cars for our market will be assembled from SKD car kits at Kaliningrad plant Avtotor. The Genesis G90 executive sedan will be the first to be released, replacing the well-known Hyundai model Equus. Sales will begin in October and will be handled by carefully selected Hyundai dealerships: according to preliminary data, there will be about thirty of them. The creation of separate showrooms is only in the distant plans.

Options are already known, and they are specific to Russia. For example, only cars with all-wheel drive HTRAC. The base will be the Premier version with a V6 3.8 engine (309 hp), nine airbags, bi-xenon headlights, adaptive suspension, leather interior, heated and electrically adjustable rear sofa, navigator, rear view camera, door closers and Lexicon audio system.

The Elite package adds adaptive LED headlights, surround view cameras, a head-up display and a second-row entertainment system. Moreover, such a car can be bought both with the mentioned aspirated 3.8, and with the latest V6 3.3 T-GDI biturbo engine with a capacity of 370 hp. The same engine, along with the flagship "eight" 5.0 (413 hp), will be available in the most rich equipment Royal with separate second-row seats, auto-braking and lane control systems.

Electronic assistants for a fee can be installed on the first two versions. And at the top of the range is a modification extended by 290 mm, which the Koreans call a “limousine”. But, strictly speaking, a car without a partition between the rows is just an elongated sedan. However, this is unlikely to stop buyers: in previous years, the long-wheelbase version of Ekus accounted for up to 10% of sales, although in 2015 there were only six buyers.

Prices for the G90 will be announced simultaneously with the start of sales. However, do not expect cheap premium sedans. Most likely, compared to the Hyundai Equus model (from 3.4 million rubles), prices will increase by about a third. This means that you need to focus on about 4.5 million! Even though it's all the same cheaper than Mercedes S-class, which now costs from 5.9 million rubles.

What's next? Business sedan, i.e. restyled Hyundai Genesis with an extended set of equipment, will appear with us at the beginning of 2017. A year later, the Genesis G70 sedan the size of a BMW three-ruble note will arrive in Russia - it was shown at the last New York Auto Show. And then, in full accordance with the global one, there will be a large and compact crossover plus a two-door, replacing the discontinued Hyundai Genesis Coupe model. But these models do not even have names yet, and their market launch is scheduled for the end of the decade.

In the spring of 2014, sales of a new generation of the Hyundai Genesis business class sedan started in Russia. world premiere which took place last fall. The predecessor of "Genesis" did not achieve great success in our country, but, according to the Koreans, the "updated" sedan is ready to make a second attempt, which will certainly be successful.

Of course, the second-generation three-volume vehicle had much more chances, in comparison with its predecessor - a solid appearance “without kinks”, very good equipment and the level of its performance ... in addition, its price at the start of sales did not exceed 3 million rubles (i.e. it did not fall under the concept of "luxury" and, accordingly, it did not face additional taxation) ... only here is "another round of the crisis" ruined the atmosphere. Be that as it may, the "second" actually became more successful than the "first", but let's get back to the review of this car ...

The “transformation” of the Hyundai Genesis, the Koreans, of course, began with the appearance. The novelty received a more status look, created within the framework of the design concept "Flowing Lines 2.0" and differing from its predecessor in increased dynamism with the simultaneous presence of elegant softness of lines, which gives the exterior of the novelty a kind of zest.

In terms of dimensions, the new Genesis is almost identical to the first generation car, but at the same time, the Koreans managed to increase the wheelbase by 75 mm. If we talk about the exact dimensions, then the body length of the second generation Genesis is 4990 mm, the wheelbase mentioned above is 3010 mm, the width without mirrors fits within 1890 mm, and the height is limited to 1480 mm. Track width front and rear wheels respectively equal to 1620 and 1633 mm.

The curb weight of the novelty ranges from 1965 kg to 2055 kg and depends on the trim level.

In respect of ground clearance- the car was adapted "for Russian conditions", as a result - only the "Sport" modification remained "native clearance" of 130 mm, for the rest, the ride height: 155 mm - for the rear-wheel drive version of the sedan, for the all-wheel drive Genesis the clearance is "reduced" up to 150 mm.

In the "second" Hyundai Genesis, the Koreans used much large quantity high-strength steels in the production of body panels and elements, bringing their share to 51.5% of the total volume of materials. In addition, laser welding and hot stamping are now more commonly used in the assembly process. All this made it possible to significantly increase the rigidity of the body structure, which became 16% stiffer in torsion and 40% stiffer in bending.

It is also worth saying that new body Hyundai Genesis is much more aerodynamic than its predecessor. Its coefficient aerodynamic drag Korean engineers managed to be reduced to a value of 0.26 Cx, which ultimately contributed to a noticeable decrease in fuel consumption and an increase dynamic characteristics car.

According to the Koreans, the interior of the new Hyundai Genesis is the most spacious in the class. This is especially felt in the back row, where almost the entire growth of the wheelbase has been added to the legs. If we add to this the high comfort of the seats, it becomes clear that the new Genesis really seriously expects to compete for a buyer even with German giants.

No one should have any complaints about interior decoration, since the Koreans preferred to use only high-quality materials, including genuine leather, wood, aluminum and expensive fabrics.

Some European critics did not like the "horizontal" layout of the front panel (display - climate - multimedia), which they considered too strict in terms of design, but the Koreans explained the choice of such a solution solely by caring for the driver, since the panel represents part of the new concept of intuitive control (HMI), which also includes a multifunctional steering wheel, instrument panel, head-up display and center console.

In general, the cabin of the second generation of the Hyundai Genesis sedan has excellent ergonomics, boasts excellent quality assembly and premium equipment, especially in top trim levels.

In the Russian expanses, the second generation Hyundai Genesis is offered with two options for the power plant of the Lambda family:

  • As a junior engine, the Koreans offer a V-shaped 6-cylinder gasoline unit with a direct fuel injection system, a variable valve timing system and a 24-valve timing mechanism. The working volume of the younger engine is 3.0 liters (2999 cm³), which gives it the ability to develop up to 249 hp. maximum power at 6000 rpm. peak torque given power unit falls at around 304 Nm, which are achieved at 5000 rpm.
    As a gearbox, the younger engine receives an uncontested 8-band “automatic”, with which the starting acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h is 8.6 and 9.0 seconds for the front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions, respectively. Max speed movement in both cases is limited to 230 km / h. As for fuel consumption, the front-wheel drive Genesis eats 15.3 liters of AI-95 gasoline in the city, 8.5 liters on the highway and about 11.0 liters in combined cycle; all-wheel drive sedan in turn, it consumes 15.6 liters in the city, 9.0 liters on the highway and 11.4 liters in mixed driving mode.
  • The flagship engine also runs on gasoline, has 6 cylinders V arrangement with a displacement of 3.8 liters (3778 cm³), equipped with a 24-valve timing, variable valve timing and direct injection fuel. Its upper power threshold is indicated by the manufacturer at 315 hp, achieved at 6000 rpm, and peak torque is at around 397 Nm at 5000 rpm.
    The flagship engine is aggregated with the same 8-speed automatic transmission, which allows you to accelerate the sedan from 0 to 100 km / h in 6.8 seconds or reach a top speed of 240 km / h. As for fuel consumption, the flagship requires 16.2 liters in city traffic, no more than 8.9 liters during high-speed driving and about 11.6 liters in the combined cycle.

Hyundai Genesis II received front and rear independent multi-link suspensions with telescopic shock absorbers and stabilizer roll stability. In the top configuration, the novelty is equipped with an air suspension with electronic control, which makes it possible to achieve maximum comfort when driving on roads with any surface.

In the "base" Hyundai Genesis receives only rear-wheel drive, but if desired, you can order the installation of an intelligent all-wheel drive system HTRAC AWD from Magna with a choice of four available operating modes: "Eco", "Normal", "Sport" and "Snow" .
Also note that the flagship motor is equipped with the HTRAC AWD system by default.

The all-wheel drive of the Hyundai Genesis sedan is based on an interaxle electronically controlled multi-plate clutch capable of transmitting up to 90% of torque to the front or rear axle, depending on road conditions and the selected operating mode.

In Russia, Hyundai Genesis II was offered in five trim levels: "Business", "Elegance", "Premium", "Luxury" and "Sport". In the lower configuration, the sedan receives 7 airbags, xenon headlights with washer, LED taillights, LED running lights, tire pressure sensor, rain and light sensors, adjustable in height and reach steering column, front seats electrically adjustable and heated, side mirrors with electric drive and heating, power windows with two modes of operation, blind rear window with electric drive, 2-zone climate control, cruise control, circular parking sensors, rear view camera, navigation system, an initial audio system with 7 speakers and a subwoofer, as well as 17-inch alloy wheels.

In more expensive trim levels sedan can be equipped with electromechanical parking brake, heated steering wheel, electric trunk lid, blind spot monitoring system, seat ventilation, projection display, automatic valet, air ionizer, premium audio system with 14 or 17 speakers and other equipment that increases comfort in the cabin.

The cost of Hyundai Genesis in 2014 starts at 1,859,000 rubles. The most available version with all-wheel drive will cost 1,959,000 rubles. The modification of the "Genesis" with the flagship engine is estimated at least 2,869,000 rubles, and 2,979,000 rubles will have to be paid for the top-end equipment.

The Hyundai brand was not even mentioned that evening - official Russian presentation of the Genesis brand took place in Barvikha chamber, solidly and without any reference to the name of the parent company. Koreans in every possible way distance themselves from their mass brands and assure that Genesis is something truly new and completely unique.

Why a new brand is needed

The first attempt to enter the car market upper class Koreans took action in 1999 when they introduced front wheel drive sedan Equus (in Europe - Centennial) 5.1 m long with V6 and V8 engines. The car was created in partnership with Mitsubishi and was positioned in the domestic market as a competitor Mercedes-Benz S-class and "sevens" BMW. However, it was only ten years later that it was possible to truly enter the prestigious segment with a rear-wheel drive model of the second generation of its own design. Even then, in some markets, Koreans began to sell a sedan under the Equus brand without mentioning Hyundai. Almost simultaneously, the Hyundai Genesis rear-wheel drive business sedan entered the market, which was supposed to fight the Mercedes-Benz E-class and the BMW 5-Series. In 2013, Genesis changed generations, and soon it was decided to finally separate luxury models into a separate brand so as not to confuse customers with the mention of the Hyundai mass brand. Instead of Equus, the Koreans chose the more sonorous Genesis as the brand name, and the models themselves were given alphanumeric indices in the manner Infiniti cars. In autumn 2015, Genesis Motors was spun off from Hyundai Motors.

Who is responsible for the styling and development of cars

In January 2016, the American Manfred Fitzgerald, the former director of design and development of the Lamborghini brand, became the head of the Genesis brand. As Senior Vice President, he is responsible for the development and implementation of brand strategy and marketing policy.

The brand's stylist is the famous Dutchman Luc Donkerwolke, who for many years was the chief designer of various departments of the Volkswagen Group. He worked on the appearance of the first generation Skoda Octavia and Fabia, and also painted the current Seat Ibiza. He also had a hand in the style of almost all Lamborghini models from Diablo to Murcielago and Gallardo, drew Bentley Flying Spur and Bentayga. Since the beginning of 2016, Donkerwolke has been working in the same team with Hyundai-Kia Design Chief Peter Schreyer.
