- the ninth character is an indicator of the correctness of the entire code, it can be used to determine whether the car is listed as “hijacked”;
- the tenth character means the year of manufacture, although for a number of manufacturers (for example, at some Ford plants), this information is reflected in the eleventh character.
- the eleventh character is the characteristic of the manufacturer;
- from the twelfth to the seventeenth characters reflect the assembly sequence and are the body number.
It would seem that having a VIN - the code indicated in the documents, and buying a car in the secondary market, you can check the car in all respects. Firstly, to make sure that it is clean from a legal point of view, and secondly, to find out all the details of its configuration, strengths and weaknesses. The second important point is the acquisition of the necessary components, parts and tuning elements for the car. Typically, part numbers depend on the options that are installed on a particular model of a particular year and even month of manufacture. But not everything is so simple. In practice, for Korean cars, the code specified in the PTS “does not break through” in Microcat MARKET, a system that is a single online parts catalog. There is a lively debate in the forums of car enthusiasts on the topic, can a car have “two wines”? Or is the Korean VIN - the code for cars assembled outside of Korea - nothing more than a myth created by incompetent sellers? In the same forums, “experts” appear who are able to determine another VIN using the Russian code, which turns out to be correct for automotive programs. This indicates that there are bases capable of deciphering domestic codes and "translating them into a common language", but access to them is limited.

I bought a new Sonata in November 2017 ... In principle, a good car, but there are “little things” that they won’t tell you about in the cabin.
1) Soundproofing — sellers from AvtoGermes sold good soundproofing. It turned out that it is quiet in the cabin only at low speeds, but as soon as you pick up speed closer to 70 km / h, the noise becomes intrusive and loud. As a result, in normal driving there is no difference between "no insulation" and "poor insulation".
2) Navigation - it seems that it formally exists, but do not believe your eyes - there is no navigation, because the maps are old (very old), the speed of the map processing is unsatisfactory - first you will pass the intersection and only after that you will be asked to turn ... there are no traffic jams! It is impossible to update the maps on your own, and even the official dealer does not have a paid update!
3) The sound of the audio system is a confident three. Bluetooth also works for 3 points - incomprehensible reloading of all contacts with each connection, freezes, etc.
4) The work of the wipers in automatic mode — TROUBLE! The “specialist” who designed this needs to have his head torn off! The work of the wipers is incomprehensible - when it rains a lot, they slow down. If you want to overtake a truck in rain or snow, then you need to turn off the machine, otherwise they will simply slow down while overtaking so that it completely blinds. Dangerous! At low speed, they work either quickly or slowly - it's just tin ...
5) Trunk and hood — poorly (difficult) close. This has been tested not only on mine, but also in salons.
I did not write about the chassis, because. no complaints. In this regard, the Sonata is a good car. All of the above are "little things" that just make the car much worse than it is.

- Adaptive optics is very cool, but after it "dropped" from the oncoming lane - it does not rise! That is, when driving around the city, it drops, and after leaving the highway, where speeds are higher, it will look “at the floor”, which worsens visibility.
