At the same time, it seemed to me that the suspension on a car with “mechanics” worked harder, with an unpleasant rumble, although this may have been a feature of a particular sample. Nevertheless, the impression as a whole remained quite favorable, and according to general level X70, no doubt, a cut above X60, and big power engine and ground clearance undoubtedly indicate that on our "directions" the new crossover will feel somewhat better than its predecessor. But to the question of whether versions with all-wheel drive will be provided, I received a direct and unambiguous answer: no, all-wheel drive the X70 won't.

Meet: BMW company introduced the sibling of the X1 model - compact crossover x2. The brother is clearly not burdened with a family, but he is concerned about a more fit appearance. But if the X4 and X6 models clearly differ from their X3 and X5 donors with a coupe-like silhouette with a smoothly falling roof, then the sportiness of the BMW X2 is not so obvious. For the sake of a sportier image, the height of the crossover has been reduced by 86 mm (1526 mm) compared to the X1 model, the length by 79 mm (4360 mm) and the window sill line has been raised. The volume of the trunk has also decreased - from 505 to 470 liters. But the wheelbase remained intact (2670 mm).

The appearance of the new crossover was created under the leadership of Thomas Zich, who is responsible for everything compact bmw. The design itself has long been: the “X-second” has an unusual beveled shape of the “nostrils” of the radiator grille, slanted headlight contours. For the sake of a sporty image, the X2 lost windows in rear pillars- in their place, BMW emblems flaunt, like sports coupe 2000CS and 3.0 CSL from the sixties.

For the crossover, three options for the design of the exterior are provided at once. The basic one that we saw on - with a modest front bumper and an abundance of unpainted plastic. M Sport version (blue car pictured) - with a more aggressive front end and body-colored parts. And then there is the “sporty-off-road” M Sport X ( yellow car on photos). You can’t confuse them in profile either: the design of the lining at the bottom of the doors is different. By the way, the “base” of the new crossover is based on conventional halogen headlights with diode running lights, but full LED optics are available on request.

IN BMW showroom X2 is an almost complete copy of X1: the same front panel with a protruding “tablet” at the top, the same central tunnel with an inclined bar that visually separates working area driver from passenger. But the decorative stitching on the front panel is already in basic configuration. In addition, rear seats are devoid of longitudinal adjustment, while for the X1, a sled with an adjustment range of 13 cm is offered for a surcharge.

Like the BMW X1, the newcomer is built on the original UKL front-wheel drive platform with a transverse engine and an optional coupling. rear wheels. So no six-cylinder engines! At first, the BMW X2 will only be available with four-cylinder two-liter turbo engines: in the front-wheel drive version of the sDrive20i, this Gas engine with a capacity of 192 hp, and on all-wheel drive modifications xDrive20d and xDrive25d - diesel B47 with a return of 190 and 231 hp. respectively. Gearboxes are different: gasoline cars it is a seven-speed, while diesel engines have a classic eight-speed "automatic".

The gamut will be expanded later. There will be an all-wheel drive xDrive20i modification, as well as more modest versions. First, it is a front-wheel drive sDrive18i with a three-cylinder petrol turbo engine B38 (140 hp) and a choice between a "robot" and a manual transmission. And secondly - a car with derated up to 150 hp. diesel, which can be ordered with all-wheel drive or front-wheel drive, "mechanics" or "automatic". The identification mark of three-cylinder machines will be a single branch pipe exhaust system instead of two for versions with turbo fours.

No word on top versions yet, although the BMW X1 also has an xDrive25i version (231 hp). There are three suspension options: standard, sports with a 10 mm lower ground clearance (for cars with the M-package), as well as the optional Dynamic Damper Control suspension with a choice of comfortable or sport mode work. The diameter of the wheels is from 17 inches, but cars with the letter M are equipped with wheels with a diameter of 19 inches, and even 20-inch ones can be ordered.

The market debut of the new model will take place in March 2018, but prices in Germany are already known. A front-wheel drive petrol crossover in the sDrive20i version costs at least 39,200 euros, and a diesel all-wheel drive costs at least 43,800 euros. This means that the BMW X2 will cost 2350-2550 euros more expensive model X1 in a similar configuration.
