From the military version, the civilian version differed in minimal details, since it was based on the same platform as the military HMMWV.


The Hummer H2 SUV model has become more cultivated, smooth shapes and thoughtful interior have attracted more buyers. The latest development was the Hummer H3 model, which differs from the H2 model in smaller sizes and slightly different individual parts of the body. It’s sad to say, but today the production of the civilian Hummer SUV by General Motors has been completely suspended. The plant officially stopped production of SUVs on May 24, 2010, but the last Hummer H3 rolled off the assembly line in Louisiana on May 26, 2010.

From 2006 to 2009, at the Avtotor Kaliningrad plant, Hummer H2 and H3 were assembled in small batches. According to automotive statistics, at the beginning of 2010, there were about 5,000 registered Hummer SUVs of various models in Russia, of which 1,528 copies were in Moscow, that is, in fact, this is every third SUV of this brand. One of the most popular Chinese frame SUVs is still the Great Wall Hover H3. High sales and class leadership are amazing, but if you look in more detail, the car has the elements to achieve high sales.

The SUV was released in 2010, and 4 years later the manufacturer released a restyled version, which we will pay more attention to in this review. At the moment, the machine is out of production, so it will not work to buy it new.

Appearance


The design of the car looks much better than its competitors, despite the fact that the Great Wall Hover H3 is almost completely copied from the Isuzu Axiom. Russian users choose this car because it looks better than the domestic UAZ Patriot.

The front end is distinguished by a massive bumper, elegantly emphasizing large optics and a chrome grille. Restyling is distinguished by a different bumper, modified optics and a new huge grille.

The profile view attracts the eye with massive wheel arch extensions. The restyling Hover H3 changes the lower part, a black molding and a different threshold appear. On the roof of both versions, roof rails flaunt, which are not decorative in nature.

Unfortunately, the leather steering column of the new Hover H3 will not receive heating, it is 4-spice and has audio buttons on the airbag cover. Dashboard - large dial gauges for the speedometer and tachometer, as well as two dual small gauges for oil pressure and fuel level. Not without an on-board computer.

The center console has become much better looking, a monitor will appear at the top to receive information about the time and temperature overboard. Under the air deflectors there is a large touchscreen display of the multimedia system; in the top configuration, data from the rear view camera is displayed there. In the lower part there is a climate control unit with washers, buttons and a monitor.


The gear selector area of ​​the Great Wall New Hover H3 is trimmed with a woodgrain insert. Behind the handle are cup holders and a mechanical handbrake. The armrest is good, roomy, the only complaint about it is that the USB port is located in it, which is not ergonomic.

The trunk is not the largest in the class - 420 liters, some sedans have the same volume. Of course, when folding the rear sofa, it turns out already 2020 liters of volume. A full-size spare tire is bolted to the bottom of the SUV.

Cars are equipped with Mitsubishi engines, there are two of them in the line and both are gasoline, the pre-styling model was with only one engine.

  1. The base 4G69S4N engine produces 116 horsepower and 175 units of torque with its 2-liter displacement. The naturally aspirated engine was developed in collaboration with the Japanese brand, it consumes only 13 liters in the urban cycle. The advertised horsepower was 6 horses higher, which is strange.
  2. The second version of the internal combustion engine is built on the basis of the previous one, here there is a different fuel system and turbine. The motor is called 4G69S4T and produces 150 horsepower and 250 H*m of torque. In fact, the engine produces 177 horses, the figures are underestimated according to the documents on the Russian market. The motor consumes about 11 liters in the city.

Only mechanics are a couple, the first Great Wall Hover H3 engine works in conjunction with a 5-speed manual transmission, the second with a 6-speed one. Technically, the boxes are different, the first one misbehaved off-road, constantly overheated and burned the clutch. Torque is transmitted to the front wheels, and the rear wheels receive it through the BW 47-60 transfer case.

The frame SUV Great Wall Hover H3 stands on an independent torsion bar suspension, a rear dependent circuit on springs. Both axles are complemented by anti-roll bars. It turned out that off-road the car behaves perfectly, calmly competing with the rest, but on the track the maneuverability leaves much to be desired. It is worth noting a good disc brake system with full ventilation and ABS and EBD systems.

The manufacturer offered 5 complete sets, each of which differs in internal equipment. The basic version of Luxe started with a price tag in 785,000 rubles and it included:

The top version Turbo Super Luxe cost 840 000 rubles, which is a little more expensive, while additional equipment pleased much more:

As a result of the review, the Great Wall Hover H3 is an excellent SUV for the money, there is little that can get around it off-road in this price segment. In terms of interior and comfort, of course, there are better cars, but they will lose in other aspects. The model is not without drawbacks, such as the lack of power in the first internal combustion engine, the difficulty of finding spare parts and repairmen, and not enough comfort.

Despite this, the Hummer H3 was no less popular than its older brothers Hummer H1 and H2. The release of the “third Hummer” started in 2005, although the premiere of this mid-size SUV took place back in 2003. In Russia, the Hummer H3 was assembled in Kaliningrad, but the H3 era ended in 2010 with the closure of the Hummer brand.

The Hummer H3 is very similar in appearance to the H2, but has a smaller amount of chrome decor and smaller dimensions.
