In Russia, the new Discovery will be presented exclusively with 3-liter V6: diesel Td6 (249 hp, 600 Nm) and gasoline Si6 (340 hp, 450 Nm). At first, we can only choose from these two engines, and I advise diesel. Its limiting capabilities are more modest, but the declared 8.1 s to hundreds are sufficient for confident overtaking.

The fifth generation of Land Rover Discovery 2017-2018 model year has become one of the main exhibits of the launch at the end of September Paris Motor Show. The British manufacturer presented to the public a completely new car, radically different from almost all positions. If earlier the share of aluminum parts in the overall structure of the body was insignificant, now it reaches 85%. As a result, the power frame became 480 kg lighter. The mass of the car as a whole has also decreased - the lightest modification now weighs 2115 kg.
The move to the new platform affected overall dimensions Land Rover Discovery. Updated SUV significantly added in length (+141 mm), slightly less in width (+20 mm) and, conversely, lost a little in height (-41 mm). Taking into account these adjustments, the body acquired dimensions of 4970x2073x1846 mm. The length of the wheelbase has increased by 38 mm, amounting to 2913 mm.
The appearance of the Land Rover Discovery 5 2017-2018 exactly repeats the design of the Discovery Vision concept shown a couple of years ago. And this means a complete departure from the square shapes that were a trademark of previous generations. At new version of the car, all corners are smoothed, thanks to which the car looks more dynamic on the one hand, but less brutal and courageous on the other. Whether fans of the model will like the course taken by the manufacturer will become clear after the SUV goes on sale. However, already now we can say that in its new incarnation, Discovery looks very stylish and attractive, delighting with clean surfaces without any intricate details. This is if you do not take into account the roof inherited from the predecessor by inheritance with a characteristic step. The family features of the brand can be traced in almost all elements, just look at the front or rear optics. Family ties with and, as they say, are obvious.
To move away from standard solutions in the exterior, additional design lines will help. With the Black Design package, black will be added, and with the Dynamic Design package, the bumpers, radiator grille, rear-view mirrors will get a different design, the roof will receive a contrasting color. However, the basic palette of body enamels, including as many as 17 shades, and a set rims with 12 pattern options already provide a wide range of variability.
In the interior of the new Land Rover, everything is designed in a simple and understandable way, which does not go against the idea of premium. The center console, which has clear boundaries, has been relieved of a fair amount of buttons, the functionality of which is now implemented through the InControl Touch Pro multimedia complex with a 10-inch color display. Integration with any smartphones, Bluetooth, 3G with Wi-Fi access points, navigation, a lot of applications - all these features are implemented in the infotainment system. InControl Remote technologies are also supported - remote control on-board functions (climate control, folding seats), InControl Secure - tracking a stolen car, InControl Protect - notification when a emergency situations(breakdown, accident). In addition to the main screen, part of the data is transmitted to the 5-inch dashboard display, located between two classic analog dials.
The interior configuration of the Land Rover Discovery includes a full third row of heated seats with Isofix child seat attachments. The step on the roof allows quite freely accommodate even tall passengers at the back. At the same time, the second row seats can move back and forth by 160 mm, freeing up an opening for access to the gallery or increasing the volume of the luggage compartment.

These include the mechanism for opening / closing the car using a waterproof Activity Key bracelet, as well as a parking assistant that can park longitudinally and perpendicularly, including a car with a trailer. Rarely, where you can see a flap equipped with a drive in the rear of the trunk, which, with the fifth door open, goes down, forming a kind of bench that can withstand a maximum load of 300 kg.
Technique Land Rover Discovery 2017-2018 in a new body
The engine range of the new Discovery consists of four units:
- Diesel 2.0 TD4 180 hp, 430 Nm;
- Diesel 2.0 SD4 240 hp, 500 Nm;
- Diesel 3.0 TD V6 249 hp, 600 Nm;
- Petrol engine 3.0 Si6 V6 340 hp, 450 Nm.
The car will go on sale first with two V6 engines, and a pair of 2.0-liter diesel engines of the Ingenium family will join later, in 2018. Each of the engines is mated to an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission. Modification with a petrol "six" accelerates to 100 km / h in 7.1 seconds, with a diesel one a little slower - in 8.1 seconds. But diesel saves fuel better - consumption is 7.5 liters versus 11.5 liters for gasoline unit. Even less "gluttonous" 2.0-liter engines, consuming 6.0 (180 hp) and 6.3 (240 hp) liters per 100 km.
All versions new Land Rover Discovery is equipped with permanent all-wheel drive with two options transfer boxes: one- and two-stage. In the first case, by default, the thrust is distributed between the axles in the proportion of 42/58, in the second - 50/50. If necessary, the ratio can be easily adjusted electronically. It is allowed to turn on the lower row (if any) on the go, if the speed does not exceed 60 km/h. Available as an option rear differential with forced blocking.
The Terrain Response 2 chassis control system includes five modes: General, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Mud and Ruts, Sand, Rocks. The choice of optimal settings is automatic or manual.
The basic suspension of the model is a front two-lever design and a rear multi-link. With this chassis configuration ground clearance is 220 mm, the maximum fording depth is 850 mm. These are excellent "off-road" indicators, however, in the case of the Land Rover Discovery, they are not the limit. Expand the potential allows optional air suspension, which has an increased base clearance of 283 mm and is able to change it in the range of 135 mm for certain needs. For example, off-road at speeds up to 50 km / h, the clearance increases by 75 mm, and in the speed range of 50-80 km / h - by 40 mm. The highest position of the body makes it possible to overcome water obstacles up to 900 (!) mm deep. At fast driving on the highway (over 105 km / h), the clearance, on the contrary, decreases by 13 mm. There are also modes for boarding / disembarking passengers (-40 mm) and loading / unloading luggage (-60 mm).
The body geometry of the Land Rover Discovery 5 also has a positive effect on cross-country ability. The ramp angle is 27.5 degrees, the approach and exit angles are 34 and 30 degrees, respectively.
Options and prices for Russia
The new generation of Land Rover Discovery will reach Russia in the spring of 2017. Detailed prices and trim levels will be available closer to the model's market launch date. But it is already known that in the "base" Russian version the SUV will have heated two front rows of seats, heated windshield and washer nozzles, remote start interior heating. The production of new items will be established at a factory in the UK.
