    Fiat Scudo is a front-wheel drive minivan of class M. The premiere of the car took place in the mid-1990s. In the model line of the manufacturer, it is located between the Fiat Ducato and Fiat Doblo.

    In Russia, a passenger car modification is quite popular, which is often used in taxis. The manufacturer also offers cargo and passenger modifications of the Fiat Scudo. In terms of value, the Italian product outperforms most foreign cars, for which it is valued by Russians.

    Fiat Scudo is a clear example of good international cooperation. Despite the Italian brand, they assemble the car on a French assembly line together with the Citroen Jumper and Peugeot Expert models. The machine is designed to work within the city, but due to comfortable working conditions, it can be driven over longer distances.

    Model history and purpose

    The premiere of the first generation Fiat Scudo took place in 1995. The model received compact dimensions and good reviews from experts. With a length of more than 2 meters, the machine had a large carrying capacity and productivity. The range of power plants for the first generation Fiat Scudo was rather limited and included 3 diesel units: a 1.9-liter engine (68 hp), a 2-liter engine (89 hp) and a 2-liter turbocharged engine with increased power (99 hp).

    The appearance of the debut Fiat Scudo turned out to be very unpretentious: slightly angular shapes, a small grille and rectangular headlights. This was explained by the fact that good functionality was chosen as a priority for the first generation of the car. Fiat achieved the desired result, and Scudo made a splash in the small commercial vehicle market. However, consumer reviews indicated a number of significant problems in the car. The largest number of claims were addressed to engines, the power of which was not always enough.

    The result of the improvements was the appearance in 2004 of new power plants. Only the version with a 1.9-liter diesel engine remained unchanged, the production of modifications with other units ceased. Instead, there were variations with JTD turbodiesels (93 and 108 hp).     The second generation of the car was shown in 2007. This is the version currently for sale. In terms of style and individual structural elements, the model turned out to be very similar to the Fiat Ducato. Spaciousness and convenience were again chosen as the main concepts of the model. At the same time, the car became much more attractive, and the carrying capacity and capacity were increased. The passenger version could no longer accommodate 7, but 9 people. Fiat Scudo got its own unique style, which made it look like a sports wagon. A large grille, huge headlights and streamlined shapes have a positive impact on the attractiveness of the car. The power plants have been modified specifically for the new generation.

    In 2007, a special modification of the Fiat Scudo debuted - the Panorama minibus. When creating this model, the designers again relied on the design of Ducato. The version was distinguished by high driving comfort, large capacity and good dynamic performance.

    Fiat Scudo looks very interesting, but in terms of modernity and style, it is somewhat inferior to foreign competitors. LED lights are not included with this model. In the rear of the car, a lifting or swing door is provided (depending on the configuration). The top version is equipped with a special lifting mechanism for the rear door. One of the main advantages of the model is a roomy interior, the volume of which can be significantly expanded by dismantling the rear seats. The main trouble is that it is quite difficult to close the large back door due to the high location of the hinges. The swing version is installed exclusively as an additional option (the exception is a cargo van). There is a 12V charger in the trunk.

    All modifications of the Fiat Scudo received a front-wheel drive platform adapted to Russian roads. The front independent suspension is built on the basis of MacPherson struts, the rear suspension has transverse beams on springs. This element usually does not cause problems and lasts quite a long time. At the same time, the suspension behaves in a very peculiar way. With a small load, the car “swallows” even serious potholes, and unpleasant vibrations occur at harmless joints.

    Disc brakes are used on the front wheels. At the rear, the model is equipped with simplified drum brakes (diameter - 290 mm). Thanks to the presence of a hydraulic drive, the efficiency of the system is increased.

    Russians Fiat Scudo is available exclusively with a 5-speed manual transmission. The shift lever is close to the driver and has a smooth ride. For petrol passenger versions (in the domestic market only used models) a 4-speed manual gearbox is available. The steering is supplemented with a hydraulic booster already in the basic configuration.

    The salon of the second Fiat Scudo is not distinguished by any frills. However, it is not devoid of pleasant features. The A-pillars are quite far forward and the steering wheel is set almost vertically. This makes the model very similar to a passenger car. A huge number of niches appeared on the front panel, designed for various papers and trifles, the right seat became a 2-seater. Such a decision clearly indicates the commercial orientation of the model. The downside here is that the average passenger will be a little cramped because of the center console, so some refuse to take extra space in front.

    The rest of the cabin looks pretty budget. Italian developers have offered very comfortable chairs, equipped with mechanical adjustment, an adjustable steering column and a comfortable front panel. Seat upholstery is made of high quality velor. The driver's seat stands out with good visibility and is equipped with an airbag in the minimum wage.

    The main advantage of Fiat Scudo is a reasonable price with a good level of quality and great functionality. The model has quite a few disadvantages, but they are all insignificant (poor sound insulation, sensitivity to side wind at high speed, not very comfortable seats).
