Just recently the Ford Explorer was like that. Inconspicuous and dull. But after restyling, he straightened up - now he is stately and solid. The length of the Explorer rolls over five meters. Superbison! It is so monumental that it seems that the sun never sets over it: the sunset is in front, and the dawn is already behind.

Sorento Prime is slightly shorter, narrower and lower. From some angles, you can even mistake it for a raised station wagon. This is facilitated by "squat" bumpers.

Salon Kia also makes a light impression. Low-slung, progressive design - something in style and does refer to premium cars. For example, an arc along the lower edge of the windshield, like the Jaguars, or wide decorative lining on the doors, looking at which you involuntarily recall Mercedes. Not bad comparisons, right? Of course, in terms of the level of materials, the “Korean” falls short of them, but against the background of rivals it looks advantageous. He also has the best front seats: with an excellent profile and many adjustments - you can even move the hamstring roller.

The Explorer has even more adjustments, and in addition there is a massager, but the seats themselves are not cut so well. In particular, tall people lack the length of the pillow. As usual with the "Americans", it was not without an electric pedal assembly. An interesting thing, but, for me, it would be better if they made a normal platform for the left foot - the one that is, forces the foot to turn to the right. I also didn’t like the speedometer overloaded with double digitization (why do we need these miles?). But otherwise, the interior is quite pleasant, although the five-year age is still felt.

The interior of the Pilot no longer evokes associations with military all-terrain vehicles - there is not a trace left of the soldier's austerity. Nice design, rich equipment. The upper part of the center console is at the mercy of the advanced multimedia system Honda Connect with Android OS. Internet access, a navigator with a traffic monitoring system - competitors cannot offer such a service. The driving position is comfortable, but the seats are clearly not designed for thin drivers: you want to tighten the back sides. And the rim of the bagel, on the contrary, should be made more plump.

Visibility in Honda is good: the windshield pillars are thin, the exterior mirrors are large, and when the right turn signal is turned on, a picture from the right mirror is displayed on the screen - you can see everything! This branded "chip" debuted on the current generation Accord.

There is also an additional mirror to monitor the rear passengers. And there can be as many as six of them, since the Pilot is an eight-seater. The second row is the most spacious in the trio. You can move back and forth parts of the seat, like competitors, and change the angle of the backrest. But the multimedia system with a screen that folds down from the ceiling is only for Honda. I move to the seat of the last row: my legs are not cramped, there is also enough stock in height, but it’s squeezing in my shoulders - the three of us won’t go far.

Ford's second row is tighter. The lack of space is also felt in the "luggage" places. But they can be folded and unfolded using an electric drive.

In the second row of Kia, there are places similar to those in Ford, but there is no separate “weather” control panel - individual air conditioning is provided only for third-row riders. A strange decision: how often will it be busy if only preschoolers can sit quietly there?

So, I bought myself a crossover again. It was a pity to kill a sedan on our roads. Either you strike the bumper, then you hit the threshold, then you hit the stones on the primer with protection. Outback is all good, but poor liquidity in the secondary market, CVT (didn't scare me at all), good stuffing, including bi-xenon at a comparable price to Sorento. If the bank had approved a preferential loan, I would have bought it without hesitation.

I already thought that I was taking this 4 * 4 in vain)), but once I saw a front-wheel drive Santa, who could not leave a small hole at all without the help of a couple of people, then I realized that I extra 4 * 4 for a heavy car on automatic transmission.

Slowly, I got used to the high landing again, I realized that the car, in principle, is well controlled, does not scour the track, confidently enters turns .. but you have to pay for comfort. Rigid suspension, knocks the soul out of passengers on bumps.

The agony of choice.

So, having sold my Rexton on August 31, I became the proud owner of a car. The purchase was prompted by the age of Rexton (almost 5 years and 90 thousand mileage) and the introduction of a recycling fee, which no one knew how it would be paid. In addition, I wanted: a front-wheel drive crossover with the ability to connect a full, diesel, normal size. Of those offered on the Ukrainian market were: the new Hyundai Santa Fe, Kia Sorento, Chevrolet Captiva, and the more expensive Toyota and Mitsubishi Pajero. Ford Kuga (pre-styling), Tiguan and Nissan X-Trail were much smaller, but Nissan is long overdue for retirement. Of the gasoline ones, there were a new Mitsubishi Outlander, a new Honda CR-V, a pension Grand Vitara, and, perhaps, that's all.

Because before that five years was diesel — the choice was clear — only diesel. Hyundai and Kia, in principle, are twin brothers, different design, plus Hyundai has a clearance of 1 cm less and costs more. And it's out of stock and you don't know how long to wait. Kia has a very good design, more relaxed compared to Hyundai, very cool DRL eyelashes. What did not like inside — it's a red backlight. Initially, it was tuned to an average configuration of 7 seats, with xenon, leather and a multimedia head. At Chevrolet — the desire disappeared when he sat in the cabin. Cool multimedia - navigation, rear view camera, MP3 player. But the radio turned out to be a separate unit - at the bottom of the "beard", green. Exactly like during the union there were watches "Electronics" made of green small squares. The second thing that killed me was some super-cheap leatherette on the sides of the seats. Damn, sheathe it with a cloth and that's it. The seats themselves — as they were in the Lacetti. So soft and shapeless. Considering that the Lacetti already existed and representing the pleasure of taxiing and the quality of workmanship, the choice was definitely given to Kia. Unfortunately, there were no free cars in Ukraine, so I had to take a cheaper “basic” package.

A yellow warning light came on on the dashboard - low fuel. I couldn’t believe my eyes: we drove just nothing, some ... Having calculated exactly, I thought that I was mistaken. But no, everything was right - a full tank was enough for a 2.4-liter gasoline engine for only 386 km. However! Here is a glutton...

However, the increased consumption of gasoline for such a Sorento can be forgiven - after all, it is more than a quarter of a million cheaper than the most affordable diesel car. And take a look at the list of equipment of the basic version - it has almost everything you need for life! So, we take?

Regardless of the power unit, the interior pleases with high-quality finishing materials. The picture shows the interior of the most expensive "Premium"

There is, however, one significant "but". The entry-level "Classic" means unopposed front-wheel drive and manual transmission - neither of which can be obtained in the base "Kia" for any money. If you are ready to be content with such a car - decent equipment, a spacious body with a roomy trunk, high ceiling and doorways, a good ground clearance of 185 mm - the gasoline Sorento will be an excellent option. In any case, much better than the middle class station wagon - it is not surprising that the latter are in less and less demand not only in Europe, but also in Russia.

"Premium" will require an additional payment of 100 thousand. But in addition to the panoramic roof and the constant ground clearance system, you will get 19-inch wheels of dubious value.

However, if you rightly believe that in winter in Russia, all-wheel drive can be very useful, but you live in a city and do not want to suffer in traffic jams with a clutch pedal and a “mechanics” lever, the picture immediately becomes more complicated. Because both with a 4x4 transmission and with an automatic transmission, the Sorento is combined with a minimum of the Comfort package and will require 140 thousand (with an automatic), 170 thousand (with all-wheel drive) or 240,000 rubles in the Comfort version -4WD-AT".

Of course, such a car is more convenient and prettier - its “foglights” are trained to highlight turns, a grid and a shelf are provided in the trunk, the seats are equipped with heating, climate control is divided into two zones, there is ESP and parking sensors, and for an additional 40 thousand you can get two seats of the third row. That's just the difference with the diesel modification in this case will be only 100 thousand rubles. Even if you count the official fuel consumption figures, this money will almost pay off after three years of operation. However, I very much doubt that the all-wheel drive "Sorento-2, 4" with an "automatic" will fit into 12.3 liters per hundred in the city. For more than five hundred miles, of which four-fifths were on the highway, I personally achieved a result of 12.9 / 100 km.
