I took a new RAV 4 at the end of February, I tested the predecessor twice, but I didn’t dare to buy it, I didn’t like the suspension, it seemed harsh and something rattled on the test.
Almost a year more ride on his Grand Vitara born in 2011. But when the new "Ravik" came out, he again went to the test. Firstly, outwardly, in my opinion, the machine after restyling became more interesting to look, plus on the new RAV 4 the suspension is set up differently, for me from the first minutes test drive liked the machine. It is much more comfortable and there is less noise, you can’t compare it with Suzuki at all, the Grand Vitara is noisy and tough, it’s not very good on the track, and RAV 4 is good both on the track and on the primer. The only thing in which the new RAV 4 is inferior to the Grand Vitara is its cross-country ability, Vitara rowed both in the snow and in the mud like a real SUV, and on the RAV 4 it’s scary to poke into the mud.
So I stopped my choice on RAV 4 with a two-liter engine with a CVT and all-wheel drive, Comfort equipment. In this version, the car has everything you need, I didn’t even consider richer configurations.
I haven’t come across a variator before, but this gearbox doesn’t cause any complaints for me, on the contrary, I really like the smooth acceleration without jerking and a fairly quick response to pressing the gas pedal. The Vitara had a hydromechanical machine for the fifth year of operation, the box began to noticeably "kick". The motor also seems to be a kopeck piece, but the ravchik feels much faster. Fuel consumption in the city is about 11 liters, 8 liters on the highway, but on average I invest 10 liters but a hundred.
The cabin is very comfortable and cozy, the driver's seat is much more comfortable than in Vitara, there the back began to ache after an hour of driving, everything is ok on the RAV, plus good lateral support. The upholstery of the panel and front doors looks rich. All seats and steering wheel are heated, but the most important option in winter is windshield heating, for any weather conditions the glass "leaves" in a few minutes.
In the back row there is more space for passengers than on the Vitara, the seatback is adjustable in tilt angle. It's a pity that under the floor in the trunk there is only a dokatka, with our roads it is desirable to have a full-size spare tire.
Already after I bought RAV4 I found out that it is sold in Europe hybrid version ravchik. I found out by chance, during the next trip to Finland (I ride there on business at least once a month). Not too lazy, looked this pepelats. Outwardly, the machine is not almost different from mine, except perhaps with the inscription Hybrid, but under the hood there is 2.5 liter engine with electric motor. Consumption on such a RAV4 is within 5 liters per hundred. I was able to see the front-wheel drive hybrid RAV4, photos are attached. It is unlikely that I bought one for myself, since the price tag in Russia would be extremely inhumane. But in general, the Japanese are great, they made a hybrid even from such a model as the RAV4.

"Large-scale updates", as Toyota dubbed last year's very fast restyling compact crossover 2013, turned out to be really significant and decently transformed not only the face, but also the character Japanese bestseller. Born in 1994 as a full-fledged and quite brutal compact SUV, as this very evolution, RAV4 was forced to adapt to the world around us in the full sense of the word, with each generation more and more refined and evolving along with the standards of the urban crossover segment. It cannot be said that this refined “refining” was harmful to the model. On the contrary, with each Toyota generation RAV4 became more and more elegant and modern. However, the rapid "arms race" in the most progressive class in terms of the pace of its development forced designers and engineers to look for new solutions at an ever-increasing pace.
The rear sofa is quite flat, but comfortable
The fourth generation of the model, which debuted in 2013, was not bad, but it was too simple or something, and therefore, in terms of design, it quickly became outdated compared to competitors. Restyling of the 2015 model was necessary as air and, in principle, met the expectations placed on it, returning the Toyota RAV4 to the number of recognized favorites of the segment.
All-wheel drive system - one of the best in the class
The first thing Toyota noticed in the format of a large-scale update fourth generation its compact crossover - of course, design. So while materials have become softer and more expensive, the RAV4's interior is still perhaps the most controversial feature in the model's portrait.
There was a system of all-round visibility
No dispute interior decoration at Japanese crossover very bright and completely non-trivial. But this is the case when the best becomes the enemy of the good. Complicating the interior in its quest for individualization, Toyota has lost the edge of reasonable development a little, which has not had the best effect on ergonomics and comfort. Here, for example: RAV4, thanks to its high ceiling and seat adjustments, offers the driver, perhaps, the highest in the class - a truly commanding landing. However, in this position, it becomes simply not visible buttons under the massive horizontal visor of the audio system on the center console, and reaching them is problematic. Again, the chairs are distinguished by one of the best lateral support in the segment, but the horizontal bolsters are so wide that they practically do not leave a gap between the chair and the door. It is impossible to put your hand in outerwear there, and in order to use the electric seat adjustment, you have to open the door. These, of course, are trifles, but when they are accumulated during operation enough, it becomes clear that the organic interior of the RAV4 is clearly not enough.
New dashboard looks very impressive, especially in the dark
The most significant advances in terms of ergonomics are the optional Surround View and smart drive luggage door. But if there can be no complaints about the first one - really one of the best in the segment, then the algorithm of the second one against the background of competitors is quite intricate and requires some getting used to.
The RAV4 engine and transmission group has not changed: the crossover is still available with two gasoline engines 2.0 and 2.5 liters with a capacity of 146 and 180 hp, as well as a 150-horsepower diesel engine with a torque of 340 Nm. Depending on the type of drive and configuration, the motors are aggregated with a variator or with a 6-speed manual or automatic boxes gears.
The transformation of the exterior gave the Toyota Rav 4 a much more elegant look.
Given the fairly decent range of powertrain and engine electronics settings between Eco and Sport modes, the 2.0-liter engine with a CVT in the all-wheel drive version looks the best option in terms of value for money on the road.
