Airport.
Riga airport.
Liquids, as in all of Europe, are prohibited for transportation.
But you can sit in a cafe before the flight and buy any drinks in vending machines, cafes and duty-free shops after a personal inspection.
Important nuance. For flights to Israel, there is one more screening just before boarding. Liquids purchased earlier at the airport are passed without problems.
But! One interesting "but".
The airport building is quite long, and sometimes you have to go through the entire terminal. In shops, vending machines and cafes close to the general checkpoints, prices are cheaper than further inland.
Housing.
Accommodation in Riga is pleasant and relatively inexpensive.
Everyone can find to their taste and wallet.
We book hotels on Booking.com. Often hotels give very good discounts. Last time on the way to Lapland we stayed in a wonderful hotel in the center for only 22 euros.
We book apartments for Airbnb. This time we lived in an excellent bright and warm attic apartment for 3 nights for 75 euros. With excellent views in all 4 directions on the roofs of Riga.
Purchases
To be honest, I am not an expert in tourist shopping.
But there are some observations on Riga.
Riga covered market.
It is located behind the station in the former hangars for airships, which is already remarkable in itself.
Each building has its own specifics: meat, fish, bread, cheeses... Next to the meat they sell wine on tap, and with fish - draft beer. There are also tables and you can eat on the spot purchased.
Right there in the market. perhaps the cheapest small souvenirs are leather haberdashery, magnets and ceramics.
Souvenirs in Riga are all like a selection - "shimushi". How would it be in Russian? Utilitarian, right? But it's also not Russian...
In general, excellent leather goods - I especially love wallets.
Old city
A lot of various souvenir shops and boutiques - knitwear, amber, leather, ceramics are especially good. Everything is of excellent quality, very stylish and tastefully done. Want to buy everything. In general, Latvia is famous for its designers.
It is clear that in boutiques in the very center of the Old Town, prices are the highest. A little further away - already cheaper. Everything that is sold on the street on open shelves (in Jurmala too) is cheaper than in stores.
I am sure that if you go shopping away from the tourist roads, then there will be even lower prices.
Malls
They were not.
But already on the way to the airport, a huge mall was noticed not far from the Old Town - on the other side of the river, cross the cable-stayed bridge - there were a bunch of popular English shops.
Internet
In Riga, for an independent traveler, mobile Internet is a must: there you can find almost any information on the transport schedule, the opening hours of any store, and what kind of shopping mall is in it. By the way, most Latvian sites have an interface in Russian. Prepaid cards are very inexpensive and are sold at almost every corner, for example at Narvessen kiosks, including at the airport. From personal experience. We were only traveling for 2.5 days, so we didn't buy any SIM card. WiFi is everywhere - in all cafes, hotels, apartments, taxis.
