One man in the field: Toyota

Toyota announced its intention to build its own plant in April 2005, and two months later it moved from words to deeds: the first stone of the car assembly plant was laid in the village of Shushary, Leningrad Region. In 2007, he got on the conveyor Camry sedan, and last year it was joined by the RAV4 crossover.

Production is carried out on a full cycle. In addition to our country, the plant supplies Belarus and Kazakhstan with cars: in eight months of 2017, 3876 Toyotas of Russian origin were exported. Production volumes more than doubled in the first half of this year to 44,493 vehicles.

In 2003, businessman Hadji-Murat Derev created a private car assembly plant in Karachay-Cherkessia Derways. According to Wikipedia, its name is derived from the words Der (the name of the founder) and English ways (ways). The plant was created in the image and likeness of the Kaliningrad "Avtotor", however, fate brought "Derways" only with Chinese brands. Initially, Derways made an attempt to create its own brand, for which they took models from China and Japan, changed names and produced cars such as Derways Shuttle, Aurora, Antelope, Land Crown, Saladin and Plutus. This did not bring success, and the plant switched to the production of cars of other brands.

Representatives of Derways are reluctant to communicate with the press and refuse to talk about the models that the site produces. IN Chery confirmed that they are releasing the Tiggo 3 and Tiggo 5 crossovers there, and also decide on the assembly of the compact Tiggo 2: whether the Chinese will choose Derways or prefer another site is still unknown. All models brands Lifan(X50, X60, Myway, Murman, Solano II) are also produced at Derveys, but Lifan is building its own plant in the Lipetsk Special Economic Zone, which plans to open in 2019. According to the head of Karachay-Cherkessia, Rashid Temrezov, in 2016 the plant produced 17 thousand cars, which is almost 4% more than in 2015. The former completely transferred production to Belarus to the BelGee plant and now they supply cars to Russia from there as part of the Eurasian Economic Union. The Haima brand left the Russian market.

The Great Wall brand also left the Russian market. According to the newspaper "Autoreview", the reason was the discord with the local distributor, the company "Irito". However, the story didn't end there. In 2003, in the city of Mikhailovsk, Stavropol Territory, the construction of a plant " Stavropol-Auto". According to media reports, the founder of this enterprise is the China Automarket company (registered in Cherkessk), owned by the already familiar Derev family. According to the press service of the plant, the production of the DW Hower H3 crossover began there in July, and soon the production of the Hower H5 model will start. There are still enough companies that did not dare to produce in Russia. But it is getting harder and harder for them to compete with the rest, especially in times of crisis. Moreover, the average consumer usually does not notice the difference in quality.
