A lot of car enthusiasts prefer to argue about “which car is faster, cooler and smarter”, and the topic of today’s conversation will be a comparison of two interesting cars: a guest from Japan - which appeared on the Russian market in 2014 - and its European competitor Tiguan, personifying the spirit compact crossover and is the leader in its class.

Nissan talk

Qashqai, which appeared back in 2007, shook the automotive market. It is thanks to this model that compact crossovers have gained public popularity. The version that came out a generation later only improved the performance. The design of the series throughout its existence did not cause any complaints.

What is better - Qashqai or Tiguan? Here you need to operate on all sides of the car, and not just the appearance.

Four-wheel drive? Eat. Is the rear drive clutch electronically controlled? Certainly! Add a two-liter gasoline engine as a bonus.

The Japanese - to the side!

But the advantages are in favor of the opponent - we take all of the above from Qashqai and add a turbine that allows Volkswagen to show off its power to the "Japanese". Of the minuses - fuel runs out faster.
We write down the advantages of the Tiguan with a 170-horsepower engine and a six-speed automatic. Mechanical DSG nervously smokes on the sidelines!
Rushing between Qashqai or Tiguan in terms of price, we can safely say that the “German” is cheaper: 1.314.000 rubles against 1.327.000. Striking, given the more interesting Volkswagen package.

Caught in a glance

It is noteworthy that motorists tend to focus more on the design of the car than marvel at the powerful technical parameters. Nothing bad can be expected from Qashqai here. This is a crossover harmony, it was not for nothing that 10 years ago he drew the attention of the people to a charming body. And the car looks elegant, pretending to be a representative of the elite class. Hands are itching to "give" the car 19-inch wheels ... Oh, it's a pity, rubber hits the pocket, the price and repels.

What is better - Tiguan or Qashqai, who deserves the title of "handsome » ?

The Tiguan does not receive a design score. His serious look looks unobtrusive, and his appearance in every possible way loses to the well-coordinated Qashqai.

Let's see what we have inside

We climb into the salon of Nissan ... It fully justifies the expression "new generation". Everything is beautiful, it gives off a bit of a European trend, not Japan. Inside, there is elastic plastic, more precisely, the front panel.

Lacquered the center console - it looks beautiful, but time will tell that the fingers will leave fingerprints, plus you will have to wipe the dust more often. Work without a miss, otherwise you will need to work hard with a rag.

Beauty requires sacrifice - irregularities in the gaps of the interior panels are visible. The conclusion suggests itself - inattentive assembly, they did not pay due attention to this.

The Tiguan has the following: the screen is small but clear, the fonts are easy on the eyes. The central tunnel has a pair of cup holders, a selector for transmission control (manual electronic gearbox), USB connectors, a power outlet and AUX. Multimedia is configured with touches through the touch screen. The system is smooth, there are no brakes.

Qashqai and Tiguan, apparently, take into account the wishes for the appearance and convenience of the cabin. We climb into comparisons: due to the low landing, it will be inconvenient for tall people to enter Qashqai - the Tiguan roof is more spacious. Chairs are comfortable, leather, balance between hardness and softness. There is perforation, safety is observed - it holds well when turning. Not satisfied with the position? Adjustment is done in a matter of seconds, including the climate (using the control unit). There are no complaints about ventilation - 8 nozzles located at the end of the tunnel are suitable for a comfortable ride in the heat.

We climb into the back of the Nissan and enjoy the spacious space. Enough space for everyone.

I am Volkswagen

That everything is about Nissan, we also need to talk about Volkswagen - the struggle is fierce, and it is not yet clear who is better, everyone is on an equal footing. It should be mentioned that even though there is no leather on the Tiguan seats, the material is made with high quality and beautifully - even without perforation, it can endure high temperatures.

A trifle, but nice - floor gas pedal.

There are even more seats in the second row of the Tiguan than in the Qashqai. From the back of the chairs, tables can be pulled out, and the seats themselves can be moved forward or backward, adjusting the tilt along the way. There are also additional cup holders, you can put your phone in the socket to charge. Deflectors are located at the end of the tunnel. There are small niches next to the rear seat cushions.

Not only is the Tiguan long, it is also tall! So much space above your head - this is clearly not enough in Qashqai. If you compare it with Qashqai, then you want to pull your head into your shoulders. Adds, as they say, space.

As evidence, let's take the trunk - 470 liters. On the Qashqai side - 352 liters.

A slight difference in numbers is noticed if we look at the compared trunk figures with the second row seats folded down - 1510 liters versus 1500 (naturally, Tiguan is in first place). Trunk trim is very high quality.

Conclusion

If the quality of equipment, powerful dynamics, good finishes are important to you, it's time to get behind the wheel of the Tiguan. Many choose it, but this does not mean that Qashqai is bad. It is very good, it has a trendy interior (although the quality of the materials does not keep up with the times), it feels great when driving. Yes, the interior is smaller than that of the Tiguan, but this is not for everybody. Still, a reliable compact crossover after all. What to choose - Nissan Qashqai or Volkswagen Tiguan - everyone's business. Based on your preferences. But keep in mind that the Qashqai is safer than the Tiguan. Percent by 20%.

Kia Sportage and Hyundai Tucson, we could not give a definite answer which one is more attractive. It all depends on the engine and the level of equipment that the potential buyer prefers.

You can put an end to the dispute between the Skoda Kodiaq and Volkswagen Tiguan crossovers right away if you need a seven-seater car. The modular MQB platform allows you to vary the dimensions of the cars built on it over a wide range. For example, it is based on a shortened chassis, on a stretched chassis it is five meters long. Therefore, it is not surprising that for about the same price, Volkswagen offers exclusively a five-seater Tiguan, and Skoda - a longer Kodiaq, whose options list includes a third row of seats. It is strictly for children, it will be crowded there for adults, and such an option costs a lot - 51,900 rubles. But all the same, among the seven-seat SUVs, Kodiaq remains one of the most attractive offers on our market. The most affordable option with a three-row interior is estimated at 2,116,900 rubles.

Engine and gearbox

If you are ready to be content with front-wheel drive or a manual transmission, then in this case the rivalry on an equal footing will not work. And here the advantage is on the side of the Volkswagen brand. Such is the paradox. can be bought on a “handle”, with front-wheel drive and in simple trim levels, and the Kodiaq standing in the Volkswagen table of ranks at a lower level is still sold in Russia only with a DSG robot and an all-wheel drive transmission. Moreover, Volkswagen dealers have a large choice: 125 hp. plus front-wheel drive - with mechanics or a robot; 150 HP plus four-wheel drive - also with mechanics or a robot, and another 150 hp. in a monodrive version with DSG.

Those who have their eye on the Kodiaq, but are not ready to pay at least two million rubles for a car, should wait a month. Starting from May, cars of Russian assembly will be delivered to dealers. The price list will be opened by a modification with a 125-horsepower 1.4 TSI engine, front-wheel drive and a manual transmission for 1,339,000 rubles. Volkswagen with a similar power unit costs 10 thousand more.

The set of options they will most likely turn out to be identical, and you will still have to pay extra for the third row of Skoda (if it is available at all for cheap versions). So if five seats in the cabin are enough for you, and you don’t need a huge trunk, you can safely go for Tiguan right now.

All all-wheel drive Tiguans have a washer for selecting control electronics modes. For Kodiak, this is an option worth 4100-9700 rubles, depending on the level of equipment. By default, it is assigned only to the Scout.

Options and prices

In the simplest version on our market, this is a 1.4 TSI engine with a return of 150 hp, a 6-speed preselective and all-wheel drive. In the initial configuration of Ambition Plus for 2,065,000 rubles, the set of options is not bad: dimming mirrors, heated steering wheel, windshield, windshield washer nozzles and all seats, parking sensors “in a circle”, LED headlights and lights, dual-zone climate control, light and rain sensors , cruise control, tire pressure monitoring and blind spot monitoring systems.

The Tiguan, which is close in terms of equipment level, in the Highline configuration is cheaper (from 1,969,000 rubles) and, it turns out, is better packaged! It does not require you to pay extra for a drive mode selector, a rear-view camera with washer, three-zone climate control, a power fifth door and an automatic high beam on / off function. The same set of options with a two-liter engine with 180 hp. it will pull 2,159,000 rubles, while Kodiaq is already asking for 2,412,000. With a 150-horsepower diesel engine, Volkswagen costs 2,069,000 rubles, Skoda - 2,367,000 rubles. The only weighty argument in favor of the Czech car is the ability to order a third row of seats. But even without it, it is more expensive than the platform, and much more.

There is another advantage on the Tiguan side - a 2.0 TSI engine with a return of 220 hp. Kodiak does not have this in principle. Moreover, Volkswagen in the Highline configuration with a top-end engine costs 2,239,000 rubles - 173 thousand less than the 180-horsepower Skoda. Significant difference. If you want a crossover with sporting ambitions, the choice between Skoda and Volkswagen is obvious.

In total, the Volkswagen Tiguan is offered in eight engine and transmission combinations, while the Skoda Kodiaq is offered in only three. The German model has five trim levels, the Czech one has four. And at Kodiak, two of them, Sportline and Scout, differ for the most part in decor, and not in functional equipment. Potential buyers who try on simpler designs or, on the contrary, with the greatest return, have only one road - to dealers of the “people's” Volkswagen brand. But even in the middle options for Tiguan they ask for less money. This is understandable: Kodiaq is larger and more spacious. If these two qualities are fundamentally important to you, Skoda will be your rational choice. In other cases, the overpayment is perhaps unjustified. However, in a month, with the release of more affordable configurations on the market, the alignment of forces may change.

And after all, he has a chance to overtake the popularly beloved Qashqai and Dzhuk: unlike the Japanese with their fixed configurations, Volkswagen allows you to build a car for a specific buyer. Well, let's try on the role of a potential "tiguaner" and try to collect the best option.

We take as a basis

We don’t have to choose a body, and we don’t want to wish for the best for the Tiguan: despite its compact size, it will easily take five tall adults on board. Due to the wide and high cabin, it is more spacious here than, for example, in the Passat. The last "Tiguan" obviously loses only in terms of trunk volume, the possibilities of which are somewhat limited.

Choosing an engine will be easier for those who have already decided on a gearbox. The base 122-horsepower 1.4TSI turbo engine is suitable for “machine operators”, the capabilities of which are more than sufficient for urban operation: such a car turns sour only on the highway outside the speed limits allowed by traffic rules. However, in winter, you will not be able to appreciate the charms of an all-wheel drive transmission, since an attractive price tag of less than 900 thousand implies a drive exclusively to the front axle.

For all the leaders, you will have to pay an additional 115 thousand, which also includes a motor of an equally small volume “inflated” up to 150 forces, in which, in addition to the turbine, a mechanical compressor also works, with the help of which a solid torque is smeared with a thick layer over the entire speed range, starting from the most bottom.

And yet “SUV” is most suitable for “automatic”. And it can be obtained with at least a 2-liter gasoline engine with a capacity of 170 forces. It is this unit that looks the most attractive in terms of price / power ratio: it makes no special sense to spend another 52 thousand on a 200-horsepower turbo.

But the 140-horsepower diesel is tied to the Track and Field and Track and Style versions, which means an increased approach angle and a more practical plastic body kit. This "Tiga" is addressed primarily to those who are not averse to climbing beyond the asphalt.

It remains to choose a package. Already the basic “Trend and Fan”, which can only be obtained with a 1.4TSI engine, is very impressively equipped: 6 airbags, ABS, ESP, 2-zone climate control, MP3 radio and power accessories, including heated front seats and automatic parking brake. The next step in the price list - moderately off-road "Track and Field" - implies an additional payment of 126,000 rubles. In addition to the more powerful 2.0TSI engine and automatic transmission, this amount also includes light alloy wheels, a tire pressure sensor, rear parking sensors, a compass and an off-road electronic package that makes it easier to cope with difficult road sections. In addition, due to a different design of the front bumper, such a Tiguan has an increased angle of entry (26 versus 18 degrees), and a more practical body kit of unpainted plastic will allow you to be less nervous about a possible scratch.

Nevertheless, the Sport and Style version looks much more attractive: for an additional payment of 101,000 rubles, you will get a more elegant exterior (in particular, the side windows have a chrome frame) and a very practical interior, which is partially trimmed with Alcantara, furnished with comfortable sports front seats and has all sorts of tables, pockets and drawers.

It is this “Tiguan” that should be recognized as optimal, since the recently appeared modification “Track and Style”, in which the advantages of the “urban” and “suburban” versions have grown together, can only be obtained with a more expensive diesel engine.

Thus, the most interesting option seems to be the 170-horsepower version of Sport and Style-2.0TSI, since you don’t need to order anything extra for it: the car is more than adequately equipped by default. And thank God: we would not want to jump over the barrier of 1.3 million rubles, beyond which the premium begins.

METALLIC COLOR (14 000 RUB). Not so expensive for an elegant dress, especially if you take into account that in Germany they ask for about 22,000 rubles for a similar color. Those who are satisfied with the free white acrylic "Candy" can save money.

PACKAGE "TECHNICIAN" (21 470 RUB.). It includes an alarm, cruise control, a multifunctional steering wheel and a connector for connecting external audio devices. But the most necessary position, perhaps, is to recognize the factory security system, the retail price of which is approximately 12-14 thousand rubles. So the other three options, by no means useless, will not cost so much.

TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR (5500 RUB). Individual sensors that allow you to monitor the status of each of the wheels. Considering the sane price (obviously lower than the cost of a tire), we recommend taking it.

NAVIGATION RNS-315 (RUB 14,190). There won't be a hard drive and the ability to watch DVDs like the older RNS-510 model. But a modest (perhaps the best on the market) surcharge for regular GPS navigation, coupled with a color display that shows the operation of other auxiliary systems such as climate control or parking sensors, suggests that the money will clearly not be wasted. Don't forget to just ask for the original map disc: some savvy dealers may later offer it to you for a hefty surcharge.

PACKAGE "AMBIENT" (1300 RUB.). If you do not order the "Comfort" package, you will have to pay extra for "Ambient" - one of them is required for ordering for production in any case. However, the amount is small, all the more so because for it you will get the illumination of cosmetic mirrors and additional interior lighting.

Optional:

PACKAGE "COMFORT" (40 820 RUB.). Neatly stacked here are adaptive bi-xenon headlights with a Walk Me Home function and power folding mirrors. It must be admitted that with such headlights, the Tiguan is almost indistinguishable from the older brother of the Tuareg. In addition, bright light is an important element of active safety. But if you mainly move around the city, you can refuse gas-discharge lighting technology.

LEATHER SALON (RUB 57,840). It is easier to take care of it, and the leather interior looks much richer than a rag one. In addition, this money includes an electric driver's seat, so if you have an extra "half-thirty" in your stash, you can treat yourself.

REAR VIEW CAMERA (RUB 12,540). The basic equipment of the Sport and Style version includes rear parking sensors, the operation of which can be evaluated not only by ear, but also visually on the color screen of the navigation system we have chosen. Therefore, a camera is by no means a necessary thing.

PREMIUM PACKAGE (RUB 74,720). It includes RNS-510 navigation, a reversing camera and inch larger alloy wheels. In our opinion, it is expensive, especially since the functionality of 18-inch wheels for a crossover is very doubtful: it is always more difficult to ensure the safety of the geometry of low-profile tires and elegant wheels even in a metropolis, and the cost of replacing a wheel that has become unusable is significantly higher than that of less than an inch shoes .

WHAT HAPPENED

Having spent only 56,460 rubles on options, we got a modern, well-equipped, safe and dynamic compact crossover with exemplary handling for very reasonable money. Moreover, if you select all the options marked with a yellow smiley, the price will increase by no more than one hundred thousand. For less money, you can consider a lot of competitors - someone will be more expensive, someone cheaper, but none of them will be able to give such vivid emotions from management.

This is a fairly relevant comparison of two very popular and actively sold cars all over the world. On the one hand, we have a representative who has established himself as a fairly reliable, in some places simple, but modern and inexpensive crossover.

The Korean SUV is opposed by one of the world market leaders in sales in the face of the German crossover. A car from Germany is more expensive, but it also offers its customers an exemplary level of reliability, quality and reliability.

A largely natural and fair dispute flares up between motorists, since it is really difficult to choose the best SUV option among the presented cars. In order for you to make the final decision for yourself, giving preference to one of the candidates, the machines need to be compared and compared according to key and additional characteristics.

Appearance

To begin with, it is worth touching on the topic of the exterior, which applies not only to design solutions, but also to overall dimensions.

The length, width and height indicators for candidates are as follows:

  • Volkswagen Tiguan dimensions are 4486x1839x1632 millimeters.
  • For Kia Sportage, the indicators are somewhat different and have 4480x1855x1655 mm. respectively.

Although the Sportage was shorter than the Tiguan, the Korean won in terms of width and height.

But the figures are still extremely close to each other, since both cars belong to the same class. Therefore, it is worth paying additional attention to the wheelbase. Tiguan received 2681 mm., and Sportage the same figure was 2670 mm. And here equality, since the difference of only 1 centimeter is not significant.

Presumably, the cross-country ability of the German crossover should be better, since the ground clearance is 200 mm. Sportage loses in terms of clearance, having at its disposal about 180 mm.

As you can clearly see, in terms of overall dimensions, there is no particular difference between SUVs from Korea and Germany. Therefore, you can move on to other comparison criteria.

Let's start with the exterior. The design of the German car looks frankly simple. There is nothing bright, expressive or instantly catching the eye. Some even call the exterior boring. But here one could hardly expect anything else from the German automaker. Volkswagen is traditionally restrained in expressing emotions through appearance. Good or bad, you be the judge. Nothing bad can be said about the appearance of the Tiguan either. Neat and beautiful lines, a rather muscular body, nice optics, large windows, neat wheel arches.

But the exterior of the Korean crossover is perceived completely differently. This is a riot of colors, emotions and fresh ideas. Moreover, Kia went on a rather serious experiment, creating a branded front end for the entire line of its new models. Looks really original, does not cause negative emotions. A kind of challenge to the pedantic and restrained Tiguan.

The Koreans managed to create a bright and memorable design. It is not difficult to notice such a car in the crowd.

The exterior can be called a rather subjective evaluation criterion, since some people like restrained, neat and classic lines. Others want a bright, emotional and memorable car. In the first case, it is better to choose the Tiguan, and in the second, the Sportage will become the obvious favorite.

But to sum up, the advantage will still be on the side of the Korean SUV. Volkswagen is frankly afraid to experiment. And in our time, faded and boring cars are beginning to lose their relevance and cease to be in demand. Even if they have excellent quality and exemplary reliability. Competitors can achieve the same, but add a more striking appearance to their model.

Interior

Looking at the cars from the outside, you should definitely look inside. The interior makes it clear not only the design approach, but also largely determines the level of comfort, ergonomics and practicality of the cabin.

In the case of the Volkswagen Tiguan, there is some dissonance. With a rather modest and standard appearance, inside the Germans did everything at the highest level. Salon stylish, beautiful, expressive and comfortable. The interior space allows the driver and passengers to carry out long trips without the rapid appearance of a feeling of discomfort. And in the configuration with a fully digital dashboard, some futuristic Tiguan is noted at all.

Now you should look at the Kia Sportage. In the cabin, you can immediately see that the car initially costs less and belongs to a more budget category. Compared to the Tiguan, the interior is simpler. Many note the poorly designed central monitor, not the most expressive dashboard. At first glance, everything is pretty good, concise and harmonious. But when you compare the interior of Tiguan and Sportage, you immediately begin to notice the flaws and shortcomings of the Koreans.

To sum it up, if the Tiguan gets a 5 for the interior, then the Sportage rightfully deserves a solid 4.

Ergonomics

Without departing from the cabin, it is worth comparing both crossovers in terms of ergonomics. In both cases, everything was done at a high level. Therefore, I immediately want to put an equal sign between them. But it is important to note that crossovers have some strengths and weaknesses.

The German SUV received a more rigid landing option. But the car did not become less comfortable from this. The front seats have a carefully thought-out anatomical shape, excellent lateral support and ample opportunities for adjustment. A tall driver and front passenger may experience a lack of seat length. In the back row, everything is also good, the pillow is anatomical, and the ability to change the angle of inclination of each backrest. For the seats, movement on skids is provided. Thus, each rear passenger can perform an individual adjustment of the seat for themselves. An obvious plus in favor of the Tiguan.

The steering wheel on a German SUV is adjustable for tilt and reach. Every button and control finds its perfect place. Nothing to change or move here. Everything is intuitive. Made for people.

Now as for the Korean crossover in the face of Kia Sportage. Like a competitor, the steering wheel can be moved in reach and angle. Buttons, levers, knobs and other controls are correctly distributed in their places.

There are no complaints in terms of lateral and lumbar support from the Korean. The seats are great for the driver and front passenger with any anthropometry. The rear sofa seats 3 adults, just like the Tiguan, and allows you to adjust the angle of the backrest for 2 dedicated seats. The seats themselves do not move.

If we make a slight adjustment for the difference in cost, in both cases the ergonomics are at a decent level. Despite the equal sign, a slight advantage will still be on the side of the Tiguan.

Luggage compartment

If you compare the trunks of two crossovers, you can immediately see a significant difference. Still, it is not in vain that Volkswagen is a people's car, and these cars are designed for family and household affairs.

Traditionally, Volkswagen tries to make trunks large and roomy. They manage to find a fine line so that a large luggage compartment does not become a reason to reduce the level of comfort in the cabin.

It is difficult to say exactly how they do it, but with a better interior, the Tiguan also received a larger trunk of 615 liters in the stowed state. At the Kia Sportage, it holds only 491 liters of luggage. If you fold the rear row backs, the volume of the compartment will increase to 1665 and up to 1480 liters, respectively. As a result, the difference becomes even greater, and reaches 185 liters.

Therefore, in terms of luggage compartment parameters, the German SUV becomes the obvious winner. The Koreans clearly missed this point.

Specification Comparison

From the position of a car enthusiast and a potential buyer who does not know who to give preference to - Volkswagen Tiguan or Kia Sportage, it is much more interesting to compare cars by their technical parameters.

As with the comparison of other parameters, the current versions of crossovers that are available for sale in 2019 are taken as the basis.

Let's start with the German car Volkswagen Tiguan, which should be compared with the technical capabilities of the Korean SUV in the face of the Kia Sportage.

For Tiguan, 5 engine options and 2 types of transmission are offered. The drive is front and full. Although physically there are only 3 motors, they differ in the degree of forcing.

  • The base is a 1.4-liter turbocharged TSI petrol engine, which produces 125 horsepower at 5000 rpm and has 200 Nm of torque. Acceleration from zero to hundreds takes 10.5 seconds. The city consumes 8.3 liters of fuel, outside the city consumption drops to 5.4 liters for every 100 kilometers.
  • An improved version of the 1.4-liter engine has already received 150 horses, and the torque has risen to 250 Nm. Dynamics has also improved, reducing acceleration to 9.2 seconds. But the consumption increases to 8.8 and 5.6 liters for the city and highway, respectively.
  • The next is a 2.0-liter TSI gasoline engine with a boost of up to 180 horsepower. Its torque is 320 Nm. It takes 7.7 seconds for such a motor to reach the first hundred. For 100 kilometers, the engine consumes 10.6 or 6.4 liters, depending on operation in the city or beyond.
  • Further along the hierarchy of gasoline units follows the same 2.0-liter unit, but with 220 horses and 350 Nm of torque. Acceleration is even faster, and is 6.5 seconds to 100 kilometers per hour. In the city, you will have to spend 11.2 liters per 100 kilometers. On the highway, consumption drops to 6.7 liters.
  • The only diesel engine has a turbocharger and 2.0 liters of volume. This allows you to give out 150 hp. and 340 Nm. Dynamics is rather modest. Up to a hundred diesel Tiguan accelerates in 9.3 seconds. But the consumption is much lower than the gasoline versions, and is about 7 liters in the city and no more than 4.5 on the highway.

The motors are equipped with a 6-speed manual gearbox, as well as a robot with the same number of steps. There is no classic machine here. It is also important to note that the mechanics are available only on 1.4-liter engines. The robot is a non-alternative box for all two-liter engines, including diesel.

If you believe the passport data, then the dynamics indicators do not depend on the drive and the gearbox used.

Now I wonder how the Korean crossover Kia Sportage will respond to such a range of engines and objectively worthy technical characteristics, as well as performance indicators.

For the current 4th generation Kia Sportage, 3 engines are offered. But they look pretty good:

  • The smallest in volume is a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine with 177 horsepower and 265 Nm of torque.
  • The next is an atmospheric engine for 150 horses, but with a volume of 2.0 liters. The torque here is modest, and is only 192 Nm.
  • The top is considered a 2.0-liter turbodiesel with a power of 185 horsepower and a torque of 400 Nm.

The number of transmissions is equal to the number of engines. Consumers are offered a robot, mechanics and a classic machine. 6MKPP is only paired with a 2.0-liter aspirated. 6AKPP is completed with the purchase of Sportage with 2.0-liter gasoline and diesel engines. The seven-speed robot is only available with a 1.6-liter turbo engine.

The drive is front and rear. But you will get the front-wheel drive version only on the condition that under the hood there will be the smallest engine with 150 horsepower.

At the same time, acceleration indicators differ depending on the gearbox and drive used. The dynamics of the Kia Sportage turned out to be worse than that of the German competitor.

  • A 150-horsepower 2.0-liter engine with manual transmission and front-wheel drive accelerates from one hundred kilometers per hour in 10.5 seconds. By setting the machine, acceleration will increase to 11.1 seconds. Four-wheel drive and manual transmission give the same acceleration. All-wheel drive and automatic transmission make the Sportage even slower, requiring 11.6 seconds.
  • The diesel engine comes only with automatic transmission. Such a tandem provides a start from zero to hundreds in 9.5 seconds.
  • The 1.6-liter turbo engine with a robotic gearbox is the fastest, and can change 100 km / h in 9.1 seconds.

Fuel consumption also depends on the drive and gearbox. Moreover, the official website even indicates the difference depending on the size. As a result, a 2.0-liter engine with 150 forces in the city consumes from 10.7 to 11.8 liters per 100 kilometers. And outside the city, consumption can vary between 6.1-6.7 liters.

The turbocharged gasoline engine requires 9.2 liters of fuel in the city and 6.5 liters on the highway to cover 100 kilometers.

A 2.0-liter turbodiesel consumes 7.9 liters of diesel fuel in the city, and can consume about 5.3 liters on the highway.

As a result, the engines of the Volkswagen Tiguan crossover turned out to be more productive, more economical and faster. These are dry facts and figures, which are impossible and pointless to dispute. Because again, the victory was on the side of the German SUV.

Comparison by configuration

In terms of technical aspects, comparing cars is much easier than making a comparison based on the configuration provided for the Volkswagen Tiguan and Kia Sportage crossovers. But it's worth a try.

The main problem of comparison is that the Germans and Koreans use different approaches to the formation of the list of available equipment.

The Koreans act measuredly, gradually increasing the saturation of the car with options, moving in parallel with the increase in cost. But the Germans use a much more complex, but very convenient approach from the position of the consumer. Each complete set of Tiguan can be called basic. And the buyer gets the opportunity to purchase the package of additional options he needs. As a result, the consumer sees 5 basic configurations in front of him, as well as a whole scattering of additional packages with equipment. This creates an astonishing number of equipment options for any money.

At Volkswagen Tiguan, even the top-end equipment is not at all the limit. It does not include a wide list of what you can take for an additional fee.

All this has led to the fact that comparing two crossovers according to their configuration is a difficult, sometimes impossible, and even partially thankless task.

The complete set provides for the presence of certain systems and equipment that are directly related to:

  • security;
  • comfort level;
  • salon;
  • protection against theft;
  • exterior;
  • multimedia capabilities;
  • review, etc.

It turned out to be problematic to conduct a comparative test of two crossovers in the face of the Kia Sportage and Volkswagen Tiguan, starting from the available trim levels.

As a result, two basic configurations were compared. Let's see what came of it.

For the Kia Sportage, a standard basic package called Classic is provided. Here you can get only what is listed. The crossover comes in this configuration with a 2.0-liter engine with 150 hp. with., six-speed mechanics and front-wheel drive. A set of equipment will consist of:

  • front airbags;
  • front side airbags;
  • safety curtains;
  • height and reach adjustable steering wheel;
  • central locking with remote control key;
  • height-adjustable driver's seat;
  • front and rear power windows;
  • electric power steering;
  • multifunctional steering wheel;
  • air conditioner;
  • integrated active management system;
  • tire pressure monitoring systems;
  • mechanical adjustment for the backs of the rear row of seats;
  • alloy wheels 16 inches;
  • audio systems (RDS, AUX, CD, Bluetooth and 6 speakers).

All this pleasure will cost a rather modest 1.3 million rubles.

At Volkswagen Tiguan, the Trendline is considered the simplest equipment. It is important to bear in mind that there is a completely different approach to the organization of equipment. And the difference is visible from the very beginning. Here, at the choice of the buyer, you can take a 1.4-liter engine with 125 or 150 horsepower, front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

Already, depending on the technical parameters, some items of equipment are added. As a result, the Tiguan base may consist of:

  • front airbags;
  • front side airbags;
  • side curtain airbags;
  • Auto hold;
  • assistant during descents (if there is a four-wheel drive);
  • steering wheel adjustable in height and reach;
  • central lock on the remote control;
  • front seats with adjustable height;
  • power windows front and rear;
  • electromechanical power steering;
  • multirudder;
  • exterior mirrors electrically adjustable and heated;
  • leather braid for the steering wheel;
  • leather gear knob;
  • steering wheel heating;
  • paddle shifters (with automatic transmission);
  • heating for the front seats;
  • heating of windshield washer nozzles;
  • headlight washer;
  • rear LEDs;
  • front fog lights;
  • front assist;
  • City Emergency Braking;
  • three-zone climate control;
  • electromechanical parking brake;
  • cruise control;
  • alloy wheels 17 inches;
  • multimedia complex with a 6.5-inch screen and 8 speakers.

But even from the start, it will not be possible to purchase a Volkswagen Tiguan for less than 1.4 million rubles. At the same time, the same basic equipment, depending on the components and technical characteristics included in it, can cost all 1.65 million rubles.

As you can clearly see, due to the completely different approach to equipment, it is almost impossible to compare cars by this parameter.

Yes, Sportage seems cheaper. And the car really costs less in basic equipment. But if you look at the frank simplicity of the Korean crossover and its uncontested performance, the Tiguan begins to seem much more attractive.

Summing up

It is impossible to give an unambiguous answer to the question of which is better - Tiguan or Sportage. Let the cars belong to the same class and cost about the same, but they are different. And the difference between them begins with their appearance.

You can argue about the exterior design of the two crossovers endlessly. Some consider the Volkswagen Tiguan too boring, gray and inexpressive. Others are looking for just such features in the car, so as not to stand out too much, but at the same time get the maximum benefits in many other aspects. There is a category of motorists who, purely in terms of external parameters, will definitely give preference to the Korean crossover Kia Sportage. And one can also easily agree with their position, since the Sportage looks more interesting, more modern and more attractive.

Having tried to look at the appearance as objectively as possible, as well as based on the reviews of motorists and experts, the advantage should be given to the Korean crossover.

But in the interior, Volkswagen proved that it can be modern and advanced. The salon is made at the highest level, thereby slightly ahead of the more modest Kia Sportage in this indicator.

There are no complaints about ergonomics in the case of the Tiguan at all. But the competitor in the face of Kia Sportage has small errors and shortcomings.

The trunk is definitely better in a German SUV. It is larger and more spacious, plus loading and unloading is much more convenient. But such a feature can be associated with the use of the usual stowage of the Tiguan against the full-size spare wheel of the Sportage. Although it still does not justify Kia engineers. They could and should have stepped over at least the mark of 500 liters.

In technical terms, the advantage is again on the side of the German. Wide choice of engines, excellent dynamic characteristics, . Here Sportage has something to strive for. Although his performance is far from the worst.

What to choose in the end, if you have a Volkswagen Tiguan and Kia Sportage in front of you, it's up to you. This is really not the easiest choice with the seeming advantage on the side of the German SUV. Yes, Tiguan has many advantages and strengths. But the car is not without flaws. And so, where the Tiguan does not reach the highest level, the Sportage successfully proves itself.

If you find it difficult to decide, you should do it as simply as possible. Sign up to the salons of official dealers for test drives. This will help you feel the possibilities of crossovers, feel them in action and finally understand which of the crossovers is more suitable. It is possible that you will change your original mind and buy a Tiguan instead of Sportage, or vice versa. After all, appearance is not always the main thing.

In our time without localization in any way. It not only smoothes out the fluctuations of the ruble, but also allows you to adapt cars to Russian road and climatic conditions. So the Tiguan was produced in Russia for almost its entire conveyor life. And the new Tiguan, for which we started this test, comes out with a delay for the only reason - it took time to set up production in Kaluga. Actually, the adjustment is still in the process and we have to wait several months before the start of sales, but we were the first in Russia to get a car assembled in Kaluga!

Buyers will be offered a choice of nine combinations of engines, gearboxes and drive types. We settled on an all-wheel drive Tiguan with a two-liter 180-horsepower turbo engine and a DSG robot. And let's push him against the regulars of the top sales: Mazda CX‑5 and Kia Sportage take the fight.

Opponents are also local spill. Mazda is localized in Vladivostok. The test car is armed with a 2.5-liter “four” SkyActiv with a capacity of 192 hp, a 6-speed automatic and all-wheel drive.

Sportage is an unsurpassed leader in terms of local assembly: all its generations were assembled in Kaliningrad! In theory, we should have taken the petrol version for comparison. But in terms of power, a 185‑horsepower diesel engine is more suitable, which is slightly cheaper and extremely popular on the Russian market. In general, we take diesel! Of course, with automatic and all-wheel drive.

Don't complain?

Strictly full face or behind the new Tiguan is good! The faceted body and multi-storey front optics made it more interesting. But in profile, the Tiguan looks like a passenger car - the influence of Golf is felt: the same tilt of the rear pillars, a large front overhang.

However, design is a matter of taste. But will the almost light appearance affect the geometric cross-country ability? And how! Due to the low bumper, the approach angle is really small - less than twenty degrees.

The interior is a geometrically verified space. It's as if ergonomics specialists redrawn the front panel hundreds of times until the gaps between the buttons, deflectors and chrome strips came to mathematical perfection. And for some reason, you don’t doubt for a moment that the designers tried to please you. How else to explain that each of the participants in our test group quickly and without problems found a comfortable fit, and rated the relative position of the controls and all the buttons at five plus? It's cozy and everything is intuitive. The case when the manual will remain gathering dust in the glove box as unnecessary.

But in this impeccability and the weakness of the Tiguan. Assertive acceleration and honed driving properties are taken for granted - and if Volkswagen at least gives some slack, it immediately hurts the eyes. I'm not talking about the hard response of the suspension on small bumps - this character is traditional for many German cars. Fortunately, on medium and large calibers, the Tiguan steadfastly holds a blow. But a little aerodynamic noise is another matter. Not a crime, but against the background of perfectly insulated wheel arches and a muffled engine compartment, a light breeze in the windshield area, waking up at a speed of over 100 km / h, is perceived as a tornado.

Same story with handling. Tiguan stands flawlessly on the arc, conquers with speed and purity of responses. The electric booster honestly changes the effort on the steering wheel and does not misinform the driver. Wonderful! But a slight nervousness on asphalt ruts, a barely noticeable sensitivity to side wind, which otherwise would not have paid attention, here seem to be something out of the ordinary.

What there is not a single remark, so it's a bunch of engine and gearbox. The wide torque shelf and the machine-gun rate of the dual-clutch gearbox instantly take the Tiguan away from the competition, and the effective brakes with an informative drive bring the car down no less confidently. That's just the pedal is a bit high relative to the accelerator.

NO SPARK

Behind the scenes of the comparative test, there was one more modification of the new Tiguan - we decided to get acquainted with the diesel version with a capacity of 150 hp. (see video above). The transmission is similar, with a DSG preselective robot and a fifth generation Haldex clutch in the rear wheel drive, and the difference, apart from the motor, is in the equipment.

We got the diesel car with the Offroad package: it is given out by other bumpers. Thanks to the beveled beak, the angle of entry increased, and under the engine compartment we measured an “extra” centimeter - despite the fact that representatives of the Russian Volkswagen office promise the same clearance for all cars that have passed the adaptation! It seems that the larger clearance is due to a different form of plastic protection.

The weak point of a turbodiesel machine is the exhaust gas pressure control valve, which allows you to meet the requirements of environmental standards without the use of urea. It is located on the exhaust pipe, and if you are going to often go off-road, it is better to cover it with an additional shield so as not to damage it in a rut.

An undoubted plus of a diesel engine is the ability to order a pre-heater. You can start it both from the passenger compartment and from the key fob: so you don’t have to get into a cold car.

At idle, the diesel spreads noticeable vibrations throughout the body, and if you open the door at the same time, an unpleasant rumble fills the interior. In motion, however, the motor manifests itself much less. According to the manufacturer, the diesel version accelerates to a hundred in 9.3 seconds, while the gasoline Tiguan spends 7.7 seconds on the same. And this difference is very noticeable! The 150-strong crossover cannot be called a slow-moving crossover, but the best epithet for its dynamics is “sufficient”.
