The new Cadillac XT5 crossover replaced the SRX model. New Cadillac XT5 Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning

In 2016, the Cadillac lineup was replenished with a new mid-size luxury crossover XT5. The world premiere of the novelty took place at the Dubai Motor Show in 2015. The XT5 became the flagship of the new Cadillac crossover series with the letter XT (Crossover Touring) and a number indicating relative size and position in the model line. Compared to the SRX, which was replaced by the XT5, the novelty received a wheelbase increased by 50 mm and a body that became only 6 mm higher.

The remaining parameters even decreased: length - by 19 mm (up to 4815 mm), width - by 7 mm (up to 1903 mm). More importantly, the XT5 is 126kg lighter than the SRX. And the increase in the size of the wheelbase made it possible to make the interior more spacious. Compared to the SRX, rear legroom has been increased by 8.1 cm. In addition, the rear seat folds and moves longitudinally. The interior decoration uses elements of manual cutting and tailoring.

The all-wheel drive XT5 is offered on the Russian market in XT5, LUXURY, PREMIUM and PLATINUM trim levels. Even the lower trims offer an impressive list of equipment. So, in the XT5 and LUXURY trim levels, the crossover is equipped with an electric sliding panoramic roof, an opening section above the front seats and a sunblind; roof rails in brushed aluminium. In addition, there is dual-zone climate control, genuine leather seats, power front seats and steering column, heated front seats; instrument panel with 5.7" color display showing warnings and vehicle information; eight-speaker Bose premium audio system; Cadillac CUE infotainment system with 8" multi-touch LCD color display. The PREMIUM package offers: 20" wheels, three-zone climate control, front seat ventilation, heated rear seats, adaptive suspension, additional interior lighting and illuminated door handles. The top package includes: suede headlining, suede inserts in the cabin; 8" display; door sills with LED lighting, power tailgate with hands-free opening function and much more.

The car is offered with a new 3.6-liter naturally aspirated V6 with 310 hp, which works together with an automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive system. The unit can operate on four cylinders (at low or medium load) and has a start-stop system. The eight-speed automatic with Electronic Precision Shift is Cadillac's first electronically controlled automatic transmission. In the cabin, it gives out a new joystick selector. The compact gearbox control unit made it possible to place an additional storage compartment under the center console.

The Cadillac XT5 has an independent suspension of all wheels: front - McPherson type, rear - multi-link. The standard equipment includes an electronically controlled parking brake, electric power steering with variable gear ratio control. Braking system - with ventilated disc brakes on all wheels and a full range of safety features (automatic drying, ABS and hill-start assist systems, Ready Brake Alert system and Brake Assist emergency braking system). In addition to the standard electronic stabilization and traction systems, the Cadillac XT5 offers a complete set of airbags (frontal, front side and knee airbags, curtain airbags), parking assistance systems, when reversing from a parking lot, blind spot monitoring.

In the top configuration, the Cadillac XT5 demonstrates the most modern functionality and innovative solutions. This also applies to security. One example is an interior rear view mirror with a camera. It improves visibility to the rear of the car by 300% with a display that replaces a conventional interior rearview mirror. A high-speed camera records an image of the space behind the car with a much larger coverage area, transmits information to a processing unit with special software that “removes” all obstacles and rear seat passengers from the driver’s field of vision and displays a “clean” image on the LCD display.

As the manufacturer claims, this luxurious and comfortable car "has an outstanding and memorable appearance that stands out in the general stream." In addition, the Cadillac XT5 features a spacious and functional interior that can adapt to a variety of tasks, providing up to 1800 liters of luggage space. And, of course, the list of advantages includes modern security systems, four-wheel drive and a powerful engine.

XT5 project marketer Mark Whitley preempted the questions of my curious colleagues, who, on the eve of a test drive in the Los Angeles area, had the opportunity to touch the interior of the new crossover:

If you see wood in the cabin of the XT5, do not hesitate - it is natural. And real aluminum, and, of course, leather.

Both journalistic curiosity and marketing pressure are understandable. I remember that not so long ago, our predecessor, the SRX, participated in our comparative test, about which Vadim Nikishev wrote: “The faceted center console shines with piano lacquer in a frame of brushed aluminum. Let not real, polymer, but how it looks! It’s a pity that all this diverse richness breathes under pressure and creaks” (ZR, 2015, No. 5).

Americans are right to worry. The SRX was known as the most successful Cadillac model in recent years and sold in the US in a circulation comparable to the sales of German premium competitors, but the rate on the XT5 is disproportionately higher! It is the first of four clean-sheet crossovers that the Yankees will bring to market in the next few years, with an even larger SUV and two smaller ones. And each of the newcomers will have to chop off an even bigger piece of the market pie from premium opponents. In the case of XT5 - a portion of the most tasty and mass segment. Difficult task...

Very stylish

…but, damn it, doable! The XT5 has taken on Americans' love of visuals, which they squeeze out of every action. The game of body edges and the luminous paths of LED daytime running lights are a great bait that I bought instantly. The XT5 is slightly smaller than its predecessor, but the wheelbase has been increased by 50 mm - and all of them are at the mercy of the rear passengers.

The feeling of space is the "ultimate luxury" that our clients crave.

I wanted to have a discussion with Andrew Smith, who is responsible for the design of all Cadillacs, but he immediately caught my thought: "Of course, buyers of premium crossovers are especially demanding on interior design and materials."

That's it, you can't get through the client with just the expanse. I've ridden quite a lot in the back seat of the XT5 - and I won't complain: it's comfortable to get into the car, my knees do not rest against the back of the front seat, and the floor tunnel protrudes only a couple of centimeters. Only once I heard from a colleague over 185 cm tall that he wants “more air” above his head - however, after a twelve-hour flight across the ocean, there really is not enough air. But as soon as I moved into the driver's seat, I began to notice other changes.

The almost kitsch combination of deliberately unpretentious instruments covered with a simple visor and the “heraldic shield” of the center console has sunk into oblivion. Salon XT5 is perceived at the same time more restrained, more noble, and more expensive. Although, frankly, the finish of "all natural" here is still not as filigree as in the "Germans". The upper part of the front panel is trimmed with rough leather, and it is useless to look for soft lining in the door pockets. The climate control unit's plastic shines like gangster boots and picks up fingerprints professionally. I would rather talk about the league in which premium Swedish, Japanese and English cars compete. But isn't that a compliment today?

Moreover, in terms of friendliness, the XT5 does not lag behind - the touch theme, originating in the SRX, is brought to mind here: a minimum of buttons, the interface is clearer, so it will not be difficult for smartphone owners accustomed to "palpation" to master it. There are also nice additions such as inductive charging for smartphones, Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto apps, a multimedia brain with a more powerful processor and a head-up display.

The most interesting and at the same time useless option is Rear Camera Mirror. You click a lever, as if you are switching an ordinary mirror to anti-dazzle mode, and instead of the usual reflection, a picture from a wide-angle camera located on the tailgate appears in it. Now in the "mirror" I do not see any rear passengers, no head restraints, no racks. This is good. But it’s also bad - because I’m cut off from reality and dimensional guidelines. Mechanically he grabbed the mirror to adjust the viewing angle, but the image, of course, did not deviate one degree. Strange feeling!

The successor to the Cadillac SRX mid-size crossover, dubbed the XT5, made its world debut on November 9, 2015 at the Dubai Motor Show, but had its pre-premiere show a few months earlier at the New York Public School Youth Fashion House.

Serial production of the premium "American" was launched in the spring of 2016, and in the summer it hit the showrooms of official dealers.

Externally, the Cadillac XT5 looks beautiful and energetic, and its noble appearance gives a distinct resemblance to the flagship CT6 sedan. A massive grille shield with double chrome bars, a sporty bumper and stylish headlights with LED vertical stripes of navigation lights endow the front of the car with aggressiveness and freshness, while the elegant “blades” of the lamps and the embossed bumper with two exhaust “trapeziums” crown the lean stern, adding to its power and sportiness.

Yes, and the silhouette of the SUV did not let us down - the “inflated” outlines of the wheel arches, the falling contours of the roof, towards which the window sill line rises, and large wheel rims of beautiful design.

As already noted, the Cadillac XT5 is a representative of the mid-size community, as evidenced by its overall dimensions: 4815 mm long, 1903 mm wide and 1675 mm high. The “American” has a gap of 2857 mm between the wheelsets, and the ground clearance is about 180 mm.

The interior of the XT5 is inspired by the flagship CT6 model, with streamlined surfaces and a minimal number of complex lines, which makes it look modern and presentable. A stylish four-spoke multifunctional steering wheel with a wooden pad on the hub hides a laconic instrument cluster with analog digitization and a color “scoreboard”, while an elegant central “outflow” of the front panel flaunts a large screen of the infotainment system and a beautiful “climate” unit with touch management.

Finishing materials in the interior of the Cadillac XT5 are fully consistent with its premium essence - expensive plastics, high-quality leather, natural wood and aluminum inserts. The front riders are in charge of comfortable seats with a pronounced profile, heating and electric adjustment. On the second row of seats there is a three-seater sofa that can change the angle of the backrest and move along the cabin.

The luggage compartment of the American SUV has the correct shape, and its maximum capacity is 1784 liters. The back of the "gallery" is cut into three parts in the ratio of 40:20:40, and as a result of the transformation, it fits into a completely flat area.

Specifications. In Russia, a single engine has been prepared for the Cadillac XT5 - a V-shaped "six" LGX with a volume of 3.6 liters (3649 cubic centimeters), completely made of aluminum, with direct fuel injection, phase shifters on each of the four camshafts, intake manifolds mounted in the block heads and a deactivation system for two "pots" at low loads. "Aspirated" peak generates 314 horsepower at 6700 rpm and 367 Nm of available torque.
The motor works in conjunction with the Aisin AWF8F45 8-range hydromechanical “automatic” and the GKN all-wheel drive transmission, which does not have a differential, but has two multi-plate clutches that control the thrust vector. By default, the car is front-wheel drive, and in order for the moment to start flowing to the rear axle, you need to start the AWD or Sport mode.
From the start to the first "hundred" Cadillac XT5 rushes after 7 seconds, and its maximum speed exceeds 220 km / h. In combined driving conditions, the "American" consumes 11 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers.

In other markets, the SUV is also offered with a 2.0-liter in-line "turbo-four", producing 258 "mare" at 5300 rpm and 400 Nm of peak thrust at 3000 rpm, as well as with front axle drive wheels.

The premium crossover "XT5" was created on the front-wheel drive "trolley" C1XX, which implies a transverse engine. The car body is made with extensive use of high-strength steels, and the outer side panels, rear wheel arches and air intake box are made of low-carbon steel. The suspension on the "American" is completely independent - McPherson struts on the front and five-link architecture on the rear axle.
The "top" versions are equipped with an adaptive chassis with electronically controlled shock absorbers filled with magnetorheological fluid.
On all wheels of the five-door, disc devices (ventilated at the front) of the brake system are used, which are assisted by a mass of electronic “assistants”, and its steering mechanism includes an electric power steering.

Options and prices. On the Russian market, the Cadillac XT5 can be purchased in four trim levels - Base, Luxury, Premium and Platinum.
For the basic version, they ask for a minimum of 2,990,000 rubles, and its functionality combines: front and side airbags, a factory audio system, four-door power windows, ABS with EBD, ESP, an air conditioning system, power steering, an uphill start assist system and many other modern technologies.
The most "fancy" option costs from 3,990,000 rubles. Its features are: fully LED optics, 20-inch wheel rims, ventilation, heated and electric front seats, three-zone "climate", heated rear seats, digital instrument panel, multimedia complex with an 8-inch screen, Bose "music" with 14- speakers, Nappa leather upholstery, panoramic cameras and more.

This, of course, was not the case at all. When General Motors took up the development of a compact (by American standards) crossover, Obama did not even dream in his nightmares that in a couple of years he would give way to the Oval Office, the favorite of all rednecks. But the all-wheel drive Caddy is one of those who will help return the States, if not greatness, then the confidence that Cadillac is needed somewhere outside the United States.

Seriously, what is a potential buyer of a premium crossover thinking about? About the German troika, first of all. About Lexus - in the second. Maybe someone is looking towards the Jaguar F-Pace. But Cadillac? With brand identity, this is a complete disaster. No one remembers the luxurious Eldorado and Fleetwood anymore, the history of the brand's greatness has long been gathering dust in the closet of GM marketers. The Caddy is either an Escalade or something like a BLS sedan built on the Opel Vectra platform. In fact, Cadillac is changing, and for the better. And XT5 is a good confirmation of this.

First, it's beautiful. The ideas laid down in the conceptual Evoq almost twenty years ago still live. And live brightly! Caddy XT5 is the blades of running lights, a monumental radiator grille, embossed plastic sides and a dynamic silhouette. If in 1997 the average age of a Cadillac buyer was over sixty years old (sixty, Carl!), today the XT5 is too bold and flashy for retirees. In a word, the exterior is a very strong trump card of the American crossover.

You think so until you get into the salon. Because the interior makes you fall in love with the intricacies of planes and diversified materials. See how the air ducts are played, how the front panel literally flows into the doors, hugging you. Leather, suede and metallic accents create a cosiness that you would not expect from a car of this class. At the same time, Caddy's salon does not resemble a grandmother's living room. More like a cruise ship. And the most amazing thing is that multimedia does not make you want to turn off the engine and go towards the nearest metro station.

Accuse me of bias, but few can compete with the Germans in this area (BMW and Audi in particular). You either wipe the blood from your eyes from terrible graphics, or try to remain calm in an attempt to cope with disgusting logic. Or wonder why the Nokia 3310 responds five times faster to button presses. Caddy XT5 is not like that. Still not German, but already quite worthy. True, I am still against touch screens, but this trend can no longer be stopped.

As in the States, our Cadillac XT5 is offered with a single engine - a 3.6-liter V6 with 314 hp. But if in America you can order a crossover with front axle drive, then in Russia the XT5 has no alternative to all-wheel drive. In fact, the choice comes down only to the configuration - Luxury, Premium and Platinum. The test car was expectedly "platinum", although this is hardly the equipment for which it is worth paying extra eight hundred thousand rubles. First, to hell with wheels with discs with a diameter of 20 inches. Cadillac - even if it's a crossover - should be comfortable, and on spring roads with low-profile tires, this is difficult for him to do. Secondly, the XT5 is stuffed to capacity with active safety and driver assistance systems.

He is indignant when you roll too hard on the car in front of you. It flashes like a Christmas tree if you decide to change lanes. He wants to park you himself, and he also gives your ass a vibration massage with the parking assistant activated. The all-round viewing system and the rear-view camera integrated into the saloon mirror are from the same series: you can safely do without them. Of course, we remember who this car was designed for, and what Mikhail Zadornov said about them. But the beauty of the Caddy XT5 is not what it hides in its bowels of the mission control center.

The crossover gives an absolutely irrational, but very strong feeling that everything is in order. You sit inside and enjoy the elegant interior. Turn on the music and just go. From time to time, of course, you wonder where fifty horses have gone, because the XT5 somehow does not go to three hundred forces. But only periodically, because measured movement is much more enjoyable.

And measured does not mean slow. The Cadillac feels great at “don't take my license from me” speeds, especially on long trips. And in this it kind of reminds me of my Fleetwood Brougham, which can't stomach the fuss and fun starts at traffic lights. True, the XT5 slows down much better. In terms of deceleration efficiency, he is able to give odds even to his classmates. I will say more - he can even drive along the winding Ilyinsky highway without drama. But only to take you to the country house, no more. It's a Cadillac, it's not about that.

The advantages and disadvantages of the 2018-2019 Cadillac XT5 in a new body are identified based on feedback from real owners. More detailed pros and cons of the Cadillac XT5 with automatic and 4x4 all-wheel drive can be found in the stories below:

Owner reviews

The exterior is probably still an amateur, you can’t call it classic (the Germans have a classic from generation to generation, someone likes it, someone doesn’t), but for me it’s great. A good combination of brutality and sportiness, it looks very fresh, especially on chrome 20-inch wheels.

The optics are fully LED, the light is both near and far at 5+. This is the first car with LEDs, before that there was always bi-xenon, the illumination is decent in the first and second cases, but the LED headlights still shine better, the light beam is different.

Now for the salon. Everything here is truly premium. Nappa leather in caramel color, with the lower part of the cabin in black, which is very logical and practical. Leather, metal, wood - everything is real, matched and fitted perfectly, part of the torpedo, pillars and top are made of Alcantara of the same caramel color, it looks amazingly beautiful!

As for ride quality. Some reviews say that the car does not ride on its 314 mares. Maybe you are right. I had Murano Z51 and Touareg V6 3.6 with 249 hp each, I really don’t feel much difference, but acceleration is very confident, and very smooth. Perhaps such settings of the engine and box. The engine is able to turn off 2 cylinders, and then the green V4 lights up in the tidy, but this is with a slow, measured ride.

The non-disconnectable start-stop does not bother me at all, you don’t really feel it. I also note that the car has very good sound insulation.

Video review

Design. Draws attention. LED headlights with cornering illumination. Wheels 18 inches. It looks "expensive-rich" from the nose. But either the absence of the Cadillac inscription at least somewhere, or the rather faceless sirloin lead to the fact that there is zero respect on the roads.

Motor. According to PTS, three hundred, motherfucking, fourteen American horses. The tax is sad, yes. On the other hand, if you spread out the 47,000 Moscow tax for 12 months, it turns out not so much for the pleasure of driving fast.

Yes, 7 seconds on the passport is the result of some two-liter turbo code, but do not forget that Cadillac is a two-ton four-wheel drive car, and yes, if you press the pedal to the floor, unlike the 249-horsepower Explorer (one of the competitors when choosing), it really go like a stung. And the sound of a 3.6-liter V6 is not the buzz of a two-liter turbo sewing machine.

Salon. Big enough and comfortable, there is more than enough space in the back. The trunk is not a record, but a stroller and a couple of suitcases will fit, plus there is a rail organizer system in the base that does not allow luggage to ride in turns.

Consumption - for 2,500 km, an average consumption of 11.5 liters per 100 km was established. Tolerable for 3.6L V6. True, there are not so many dead traffic jams on my way to work / home.

Minuses:
1. Non-switchable start-stop. Generally non-disabled. The engine stalls at any stop, starts again when the brake pedal is released. Annoys.
2. By default, each time the ignition is turned on again, the car is in front-wheel drive "normal" mode. If you need 4WD or sports, then if you please press a button. I think it will run out in the winter.
3. Doubtful ergonomics of the center console. Inconvenient automatic transmission handle, reminiscent of BMWs. Confusing illogical menu. However, Ford is worse. Navigation is nothing.
4. Slightly "twitchy" machine. Though Aisin.
5. My wife did not like it (fortunately, otherwise I would have wrung it). The landing is low, the dimensions are too big, the hood is not visible, and finally)

Review of Cadillac XT5 3.6 (310 hp) AT 2016

Bought Cadillac because of the original appearance and excellent value for money. I agree that German crossovers of a similar class are driven more recklessly, but they also cost significantly more, mainly due to additional equipment.

I have the highest grade Platinum. The salon is luxurious, genuine leather of the highest quality, the front panel is trimmed with leather and suede, the panoramic roof is the entire length of the cabin. The front seats are ventilated and heated, and in winter the heating is turned on automatically. Not only the seats are heated, but also the backs. The rear passengers have their own climate and also have heating.

There is enough engine power, but the box could switch more quickly when you want to wedge into the next row, its thoughtfulness is annoying. The average consumption is about 12 liters, I once drove about 100 km / h along the highway, while the consumption dropped to 7.5 liters, but in traffic jams it jumps to 20 liters and more, even despite the presence of the Start-Stop system and the shutdown of two cylinders when minimum load.

The multimedia display is of excellent picture quality, does not glare in the sun, but fingerprints always remain on it, I have already brought a special cloth to deal with them.

The suspension is stiff enough, the car does not sway on the waves and practically does not heel in corners, but you have to slow down on large bumps. At first, the work of the brake pedal seemed strange, I had to apply an unusually large effort, but I got used to it in a couple of weeks, it no longer bothers me.

Vladimir, review of the Cadillac XT5 3.6 (310 hp) automatic 2016

For an aspirated engine, the engine runs very well. I had to get used only to the "long" gas pedal. But here is an interesting trick: you press, it seems, already to the breath, and then - bam! It turns out there is still room to press, and the supply of power has not dried up, there is still gunpowder in the powder flasks!

And here's what pleases: the driving modes here are not for furniture. They really work. If perishing sport, means sport. Or you can make the car more economical when the engine cuts down two cylinders.

Suspension, or rather its settings - European. In corners, the XT5 does not storm, everything is clear. Passengers do not get sick even in comfort mode. It doesn’t break through in the pits, but you swim along the road, even if it’s so-so in quality. The steering wheel is pleasant to hold and according to the reactions it is very adequate.

Places inside - you can play football. The seats can even be adjusted to fit a baboon - electric drives, there is heating and ventilation (in front). The rear ones are heated, the backrests are tilt-adjustable, and the range is very large. Well, the trunk is comfortable. Separated by a small "turnstile" that rides back and forth on a sled, a very convenient solution.

As for the disadvantages:
1. Fuel consumption in the city is under 20 liters, on the highway, if desired, you can put it in 10-12, but it rarely happens.
2. Tupit when switching driving modes.
3. At high speeds, noise appears either from the wind or from the tires, it is not clear ...
