I traveled for a year, then a bit overgrown with money and decided that something more serious was needed. Initially aimed precisely at this Camry model. I thought, consulted with experienced people, I made a conclusion - for not very big money and more seriously - this is it. A significant role was played by the fact that at that time we had few of them, they did not become familiar. I was looking for a normal option and found it.

So the Camry 1997 2.2 gasoline, manual transmission, European - this is a rarity here (Chisinau), mostly Americans (by the way, they are slightly different in bodywork, and even in the cabin). Color - metallic blue, climate control, electric package, ABS, signaling (changed to better), gray interior, velor, wood inserts, hands free for Nokia "herring", cast wheels 15. Tinted "visor" on the front windows, tinted according to circle (except lobovukha) - film "American" blue tone, mirror. By the way, well, it goes very well, in body color, beauty!

Body.

Visually, I really like it, especially in front - such a gloomy flattened muzzle. Thoroughbred (no kidding), closer to the classics. As for the buttocks - the muzzle is more beautiful :) The clearance is completely satisfied, with disks 15 and tires 205/65 / R15 (summer) and 195/65 / R15 (winter) - native sizes - I did not experience any special problems. The paintwork is normal, not tender. Corrosion - it is not! Where only did not look. I'm surprised it's not a new car...

Salon.

I like it, spacious (my height is 193 cm and weight is 105 kg.). The driver's seat is comfortable, the lumbar is comfortable, there is enough space for the legs. By the way, with my height (and normal build), I install the driver's seat far from the rearmost position. There is more stock. For some reason, the front passenger seat is not so convenient. The armrest is where you want the elbow (and roomy). Sitting in the back is WELL VERY CONVENIENT and somehow imposing, or something! It’s a pity that it rarely works out, I drive alone 95% of the time. The dashboard is readable. Climate - no complaints, the main thing is to change the cabin filter every six months, otherwise the air flow is weak, you have to increase the power (by pressing the button). The glove compartment is not cooled, but not small. Yes, minus - no ashtray light! I have to turn on the overhead light when smoking at night (I'm neat, I know by touch where the ashtray is, but I don't want to risk it). As for the interior light - it's convenient, the front cover is double (carrier - passenger), with separate incl. rear separately. There is no ashtray at the back - cup holders. Ahead, too, there are cup holders - in front of the armrest. In short, everything is at hand and everything works.

Engine.

2.2 liters, gasoline, manual transmission 5 steps, 4 boilers and 16 valves. Rugged, reliable, quiet. All passes are long. There is enough power (on the manual transmission), it does not press into the chair from a place, but the acceleration is very dynamic. Economical, highway-city consumption (50% -50%) - 9.5-10.5 liters. 95 with spirited driving. I have 0.5 liters of oil. for 8 thousand km. (I change this way, the engine is not new).

Chassis.

Energy-intensive, moderately elastic, comfortable - the long base affects. Irregularities does not overcome, but passes (damn, how would I better explain). Shumka is not bad, but I would like better.

Breakdowns and repairs.

Aha - you think - it has begun! No, it's not that scary.

By way: periodically (not critical) gum, 1 time ball joint, steering tip, stabilizer bushings, 2 front silent blocks. Yeah, a year ago the front shock absorber leaked. I didn’t take a steam bath - I took a used Kayaba ($ 25) so as not to change a pair. Changed the rear spring. By the way, our roads are CRAZY (Moldova, Chisinau).

By engine: there is such a thing - a camshaft position sensor, it does not break, cars retire with factory ones. So no - I'm lucky - it stupidly unscrewed from the screw and hung on the wiring, well, it was hit by a gear. The result - the car is off, will not start. They brought it to me from Odessa for $105. Installed in 4 minutes and $5. I changed the spark plugs (NJK Japan - simple and Tesla wires), only $85.

Now popados. My box made a noise, quietly like that, but I don’t drive with noises - immediately to the service. Officials said that the crunch of the front pair (so, in my opinion) in the box, the verdict - $ 2500 REPAIR! Not a gearbox replacement! On a proven service (not office) confirmed. So, I took a used gearbox from Odessa (everything is cheaper there than we have by 15-30%), they put it on me + (if you do it) changed the clutch, basket, front brake discs, pads on them, timing belt and 2 rollers, CV joint boot, steering wheel tip and everything came out to $ 1070 with work, yeah, and with an oil change in the gearbox (elf synthetics).This is all. The three-liter V6 of the "1MZ-FE" model, in terms of performance and appearance, is almost a copy of the three-liter engine of the previous Camry, prone to overheating and burnout of head gaskets. True, the original clutch kit (it is better to change it as an assembly), like all Japanese spare parts, is not cheap - $ 335.
HOW IS YOUR HEALTH? DON'T WAIT.
The only weak point in the suspension is the cups of the upper supports of the front shock absorbers on cars before 1999 of release. They fail already at 20-30 thousand km and start knocking nasty when driving through potholes. New cups with bearings and spring pads cost $312 and take three labor hours to replace them.

On average, shock absorbers and stabilizer struts are enough for 100 thousand km.
The rest of the parts - steering rods and their tips, ball bearings and front levers with silent blocks, all six rear suspension reaction rods - remain native on cars even with a mileage of 150-170 thousand km, if there were no emergency situations. According to the experience of the previous Camry (there are no cars of the latest generation with such mileage yet), serious "diseases" appear at about two hundred thousand ... Notice, on our roads! Therefore, if you take a car with a real mileage of 80-100 thousand km in Europe today, then you still have 120-140 thousand left in stock before "entrusting" large expenses to the next buyer.
