The next, fourth in order, generation of the iconic American SUV Chevrolet Tahoe officially appeared before the general public on September 12, 2013 - at a special event in New York, and celebrated its European premiere in August 2014 - as part of the Moscow Motor Show. As a result of this reincarnation, the car retained its "philosophy", but at the same time it was improved in all aspects - it was dressed in a modern "outfit", became much more comfortable, received seriously modernized equipment and acquired fashionable "gadgets".

In the summer of 2016, the five-door went through a small update, which came down to the addition of new equipment and did not affect the appearance with the technical “stuffing” ... And in February 2018, for the Russian market, the SUV went through a very conditional “restyling” and a noticeable update in technical terms - on this time they expanded the color scheme of the body, slightly increased engine power, replaced the 6-speed “automatic” with an 8-band one and separated new options that were not available before.

With all its appearance, the fourth-generation Chevrolet Tahoe radiates power and self-confidence and at the same time looks attractive and stylish - it is simply impossible not to pay attention to such a “lump” with a monumental silhouette and all its athletic article in the city stream.

In the front of the SUV, the emphasis is on the “two-story” head optics and a huge radiator grill with a chrome frame, but its feed is not expensive enough - simple lights (albeit LED ones) and the complete absence of a “brilliant” decor (but this in no way detracts external impressiveness of the "American").

"Tahoe" of the fourth generation is a real "giant" - its length is 5181 mm, the width fits into 2044 mm, and the height reaches 1889 mm. A 2946 mm gap is placed between the pairs of wheels on the car, and under the “belly” there is a 200 mm ground clearance.

Monumentality continues in the interior of the "fourth" Chevrolet Tahoe - inside the SUV there is an atmosphere of calm and security.

Behind the “fleshy” multifunctional steering wheel, an ergonomic and readable “dashboard” of instruments with six analog scales and a color display of the on-board computer is visible. The “multi-layered” front panel looks fashionable and pretty, and its central part is distinguished by a competent layout - at the top there is an 8-inch screen of the MyLink multimedia complex, which has incorporated most of the functions, and the lower part returns to the “remote control” of the two-zone climate control unit.

Finishing materials in the car interior are fully consistent with its high status - soft plastics, expensive leather, aluminum and wooden decor.

By default, the decoration of the Tahoe is eight-seater. Under the hood of the fourth generation Tahoe is reserved for the mighty L86 gasoline engine of the Small Block family (aka EcoTec3) - this is an atmospheric V-shaped "eight" with a volume of 6.2 liters with direct injection, a variable valve timing system, a variable displacement oil pump and half-off technology "pots" at small loads. Its return is 426 horsepower at 5600 rpm and 621 Nm of peak thrust at 4100 rpm (before the upgrade, the return was 409 hp and 610 Nm).

The motor is equipped with an 8-speed hydromechanical “automatic” and an all-wheel drive transmission with an electromagnetic clutch that controls the connection of the front wheels and has the possibility of forced blocking, an automatic transfer case, a reduction gear and a “samoblok” in the rear axle.

The all-wheel drive system on an SUV is capable of operating in four modes: 2HI - only the rear wheels are involved; Auto - automatically connected all-wheel drive; 4HI - permanent four-wheel drive with a "tight" clutch; 4LO - four-wheel drive with downshift.

On asphalt, Chevrolet Tahoe shows excellent numbers: from standstill to 100 km/h, this American "lump" can be said to "eject" in just 6.7 seconds and accelerates to a maximum of 180 km/h (electronically limited speed).

The front axle of the SUV is equipped with an independent suspension with “winged metal” A-arms, and at the rear there is a multi-link architecture with a continuous axle.

The "top" versions are standardly equipped with Magnetic Ride Control adaptive shock absorbers with magnetorheological fluid, which adapt in real time to the road surface.

The steering mechanism of the "American" type "pinion-rack" is supplemented with an electric amplifier with variable characteristics, and its brake package is formed by ventilated four-wheel discs and a whole set of modern electronics.

In the Russian market, the fourth generation Chevrolet Tahoe can be purchased in three equipment options - “LE”, “LT” and “Premium”.

As for the German crossover, I was pleasantly pleased with its driving performance, but the interior turned out to be small, which became a stumbling block when choosing.

Not finding a reasonable compromise between desires and needs, I decided to look in the direction of the Chevrolet Tahoe and I was very interested in it.

The second row can only accommodate two people due to two separate seats. At their disposal is their own multimedia unit with a folding screen that can play videos or interact with game consoles.

On the gallery of the third row, three people of average build and no more than 175 centimeters tall can fit. The volume of the luggage compartment with the additional row folded is 1461 liters. If you also fold the second-row seats, you can achieve an impressive 2682 liters, which will be enough to transport overall luggage.

Chevrolet Tahoe accelerates confidently and assertively. Frantic engine thrust is available in almost the entire operating speed range, which provides outstanding elasticity. The only drawback is the delayed reactions of the accelerator pedal, which do not allow you to accelerate sharply on the move or from a standstill. However, this is offset by the smooth and fast operation of the automatic transmission, the algorithm of which remains understandable under any conditions.

Handling makes you wary. The reason for this is a not too sensitive steering wheel, which does not have high information content. Active maneuvering in the flow should be avoided, because the diagonal buildup and rolls are very large.
