The company is issuing cars, SUVs, motorcycles, engines and transmissions. It owns the Geely and Volvo brands and also sells taxis under the London Taxi brand. Translated from Chinese, the brand name translates as "happiness."
The founder of Geely, Li Shufu, was born into a farmer's family. For some time the boy helped his father, and then went to try his luck in the city. In 1986, when Li was 23, he founded a refrigeration component manufacturing company. Three years later, he expanded his activities and began to produce decorative materials and magnolia wood products.
In 1992, an epochal turn in the history of the company's development is planned: Geely signs a cooperation agreement with a major Japanese automaker Honda motor. Now the brand under license produces scooters, motorcycles and components. By 1994, the company occupies a leading position in the sale of scooters in Chinese market and begins to assemble motorcycles of his own design.
The company was doing excellently: already in 1997 Geely produces more than 200,000 motorcycles and scooters. Since 1997, the company has been equipping scooters with power units of its own design. Li Shufu plans further development and starts car development.
In 1998, the first Geely car appears. It was a Haoqing SRV hatchback based on the G100 Daihatsu Charade platform. It was equipped with a 993 cc three-cylinder or 1342 cc four-cylinder power unit with a capacity of 52 and 86 hp. respectively.

However, Geely is not yet registered as a car manufacturer, which prevents the company from launching a full-scale production. In 2001, the license was finally obtained, and Geely is among the first private automakers in China.
In 2002, Geely begins to cooperate with Daewoo and Maggiora S.p.A Italy. And next year the company exports the first batch of its cars. Only in the first half of the year, the volume of production of cars is 34,000 units.
In 2005, the company presents its vehicles for the first time at one of the most prestigious car exhibitions in the world at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The updated Haoqing hatchback, as well as the Merrie and Uliou models were demonstrated there. Geely became the first Chinese auto company to introduce its cars to the European market.

The leadership of the republic has been trying for many years to correct this situation: to attract foreign investment to the country, create jobs, and at the same time transfer citizens from old foreign cars to new cars of their own, Belarusian, production, albeit a foreign brand. And here is the success - an agreement with China, the construction and launch of the long-awaited Belgy plant, where cars are already being assembled brands Geely. It is on this new joint venture a correspondent of the magazine "Dvizhok" visited, who saw with his own eyes the fruits of cooperation, which was agreed upon at the highest level.
That's right: President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko personally took part in the opening of the plant. Ask, what does Russia have to do with it? It's simple: even if the strong-willed decision of the president obliges all Belarusians to buy only Geely cars, the enterprise's capacities will cope with this task in about one year of work. Therefore, 90% of all products will be exported and, as we all perfectly understand, the vast majority of machines will appear on the Russian market.
It is impossible not to note the global approach with which Geely decided to new step in conquering our market. Instead of using power factory Derways in Cherkessk, where only the lazy did not complain about the build quality, the company decided to develop an alternative territory, while remaining within the framework of the Customs Union.
Recall that Geely was founded in 1986. Like many automakers from the Middle Kingdom, she managed to make a serious leap only in the "zero". On its territory there is an assembly shop (more than 16,000 sq. m), a painting shop (about 8,000 sq. m) and a welding shop (more than 9,000 sq. m). The assembly shop is divided into three main lines: interior line, chassis line and final assembly line.
The expectation to see robots with incomprehensible hieroglyphs there did not materialize. The assembly is entirely managed by "Western" technologies. Adhesive-sealant is applied to the glass by an industrial Kuka robot from Germany, this same sealant is supplied to the robot by a Graco adhesive system from the USA, and the test line is outsourced to Durr, again from Germany.
On this moment more than a hundred people work in the assembly shop, and their efforts to assemble completely finished car it takes only three hours from a welded and painted body. Helping them in this is the Swedish-made Atlas Copco assembly tool with servo drives and wireless transmission tightening data threaded connections everyone specific vehicle. This technology eliminates defects in the tightening of threaded connections at all stages of assembly and meets the most modern international standards and quality requirements.
The welding shop is also proud of the equipment famous brands with a worldwide reputation. These are Obara welding tongs from Japan, 27 German Kuka welding robots, 62 adaptive systems Bosch Rexroth contact welding controls with adaptive adjustment, adhesive systems for automatic sealant application from the German SCA, as well as a three-dimensional measuring machine from Hexagon from Sweden. The task of the latter is to make sure that the percentage of compliance of welding joints is at least 95%.

A feature of such welding systems is the ability to adjust the parameters of the welding process in real time and provide maximum quality control of the weld points. All work is checked by the control and measurement laboratory for body geometry control using laser sensors and contact heads on a special machine.
Representatives of Geely paid special attention to the painting shop, which is designed for eight colors. For coating the outer surfaces of the body, Durr robots are used with complex kinematics, which provides painting on surfaces of any configuration. As befits a plant that claims to be state of the art, eco-friendly water-based materials and electrostatic coating methods are used for painting.
Painting and cataphoretic priming of Geely car bodies are handled by six Graco units from the USA for the supply and application of joint and anti-gravel sealants, 16 units from the same company for premixing and supply paintwork materials, and 11 more Durr robots - directly for coloring. The supplier of cataphoresis bath materials and paint coating materials is German company Basf. Do not forget about Belgi and phosphating. Phosphate film with zinc is designed to protect the body from corrosion. For more impact protection various pollution during painting, special demineralized water is used to remove even the smallest particles of salts and metals from it.
Despite the fact that robots are engaged in painting, after the car is necessarily inspected by the controller, who personally checks each painted body. The same thing happens after the varnishing chamber. The final polishing chamber works on the surface until it is perfectly smooth and shiny.
Separately, it is worth noting under what vigilant control of guests from the Middle Kingdom all work is carried out. The gaze of Geely's Chinese experts is constantly watching each body moving along the conveyor, simultaneously checking the data on the work done on computer screens.
What is the upshot?
If a couple of years ago the phrase “Chinese production and quality control” caused a slight smile, then seeing how the most modern robots assemble cars in almost sterile conditions from the most environmentally friendly materials, one ceases to be surprised at the unimaginable pace of development of the Chinese car industry. A little more - and fluctuations in the choice of buyers between European, Japanese and Chinese stamps will become commonplace, and whose car will be more interesting, better and, most importantly, more profitable, is still unclear.
As for the Geely Atlas model, which is assembled at the new Belarusian enterprise, the sales success of this crossover will directly depend on pricing policy. On the conservative Russian market, whatever one may say, in order to attract buyers, it is advisable to enter with dumping, especially in the case of Chinese brands, the attitude towards which in Russia is biased. True, given the world level of production seen at the Belarusian enterprise, we can say with a high degree of confidence that the Geely brand has every chance to break domestic stereotypes.

With the start of export, the owners of the enterprise, positioning their cars as accessible to everyone, began to look for opportunities for SKD assembly in the countries of sale. It is often more profitable to transport a car in large parts and assemble it on the spot than transporting a whole vehicle.
In Ukraine, Geely Automobile entered into an agreement for the assembly of some models of its cars with the AIS Group of Companies. On Kremenchug car assembly plant collected almost all models currently produced (including the popular Geely Emgrand 7 five-door sedan). Unfortunately, at the end of 2015 KrASZ was declared bankrupt.
The closest assembly center to us is now located in Belarus - a joint Chinese-Belarusian enterprise "BelGee" (Borisovo). interesting moment: the owners of the company have launched the construction of a new plant between Borisov and Zhodino, which will have a full production cycle.
At the Ukrainian enterprise KrASZ, the following manipulations were performed (basic for this type of plant):
- receiving a car with a fully assembled interior;
- installation of chassis (completely), engine and gearbox;
- assembly quality control on a special track;
- bench control (electronics, motor, shock absorbers).
In addition, at the factory in China, all shipped parts are pre-tested. Such a multi-stage check allows you to save vehicles from many troubles later, during operation.
