Italian car manufacturer. Famous Italian cars: brands, history and photos

Burning Italians and impulsive Spaniards have transferred a lot into their cars - passion, speed, danger and literally physical lust define the essence of most Italian (and Spanish) cars. Of course, in this case we are not talking about “ordinary” cars, which are the vast majority on the world stage, but about true stallions, icons of breed and style, indicators of WHAT should be embodied in a sports car: the riot of a wild beast, the passion of a real flamenco, the heat is not a candle, no : the heat of a fire-breathing volcano. These are the classic Alfa Romeo and Ferrari, Lamborghini and Pagani, Maserati and Lancia. This is far from full list Italian automakers (let's be honest, Spain with its SEAT in this case stands out in world motorsport much less), which do Name for Italy.

As in the case of other European countries (, etc.), the beginning of the 20th century for both Italy and Spain was a new milestone - they discovered the possibility of creating cars. And as usual, these companies closed in a year or two, others lasted a couple of decades, and only individual automakers were able to survive to this day. Moreover, in the case of Italy, the list of the latter includes two dozen (although only 6 of them trace their pedigree from the beginning of the last century), and in Spain the entire list is more or less living SEAT and the racing manufacturer Advanced Design Tramontana, little known to the general public.

SEAT S.A. (Spanish "Spanish Community cars for tourism" is a Spanish automotive company that is part of the Audi Brand Group, a division of the concern Volkswagen Group. The company's headquarters is located in Barcelona (a suburb of Martorell), Spain.

The founders were the National Institute of Industry (NIP) - 51%, six banks - 42%, as well as FIAT, which has 7% and its own production license . The latter, by the way, had a direct influence on the young automaker and literally imposed his models on Spanish production. Many models released in SEAT are the same Fiats, but with a changed name of the manufacturer (the model itself often did not change the name). Example - SEAT 124 = Fiat 124.

On domestic market we confidently know a couple of hundred SEAT models (they are also Fiat): SEAT 600 = Fiat 500 = ZAZ (we will not say the index, the model is clear), the above SEAT 124 = Fiat 124 - VAZ 2101.

However, happiness does not last long - by the end of the 20th century, the brand fell into decline, and in 2008 it was liquidated. Fortunately, the misfortune does not last long: already in the next 2009 it was revived again, it is planned to restore its former name and glory.

One of the founding shareholders of FIAT, Giovanni Agnelli, became CEO companies. The first FIAT was with a 2-cylinder boxer engine 3.5 HP located at the back. Lamborghini (1963-present)

There are several versions of the origin of this brand, but they all come down to one thing: Ferruccio Lamborghini(far from a poor character with several businesses and a considerable number of luxury sports cars ... And yes, he owned the production of tractors named after himself) came to another "character" Enzo Ferrari (the same one) to complain about bad grip in the transmission of his Ferrari 250GT, to which he received a request not to get involved with his tractor knowledge in sport car. Almost not offended, Ferruccio Lamborghini came home, dismantled the transmission and found a considerable similarity between the components of the actual racing and tractor clutches. Finding a replacement on their racks and reassembling everything back into place, the clutch problem was fixed.

The bull on the emblem symbolizes Taurus, under the sign of which (in terms of the horoscope) F. Lamborghini was born.

The first V12 engines Ferruccio Lamborghini created together with the former mechanical engineer from Ferrari Giotto Bizarini.

Lancia (1906-present)

Carlo began a successful career as a racing driver, but in 1919 he died of tuberculosis. Alfieri, Bindo and Ernesto worked for car company"Isotta-Fraschini" . In 1914, Alfieri decided to open his own workshop in the vicinity of Bologna. Soon two younger brothers, Bindo and Ernesto, joined him and together they built a sports car with a two-liter engine. In 1926, with the financial support of Diato, the brothers founded the Maserati company. The company began producing cars with 4-, 6-, 8- and 16-cylinder engines. One of the first Maserati, driven by Alfieri, won in 1926 in the Targa Florio.

The artist Mario designed the company's emblem - a trident. Alfieri died in 1932, but the remaining three brothers (Bindo, Ettore and Ernesto) continued the business of the company.

The emblem of the company is a trident, an element of the Neptune Fountain in Bologna. The company is currently owned by the FIAT group.

Pagani (1992-present)

The creator of the supercar, the Argentine Horatio Pagani, the son of poor Italian immigrants from Argentina, grew up in a baker's family in the Argentinean resort of Santa Fe. Self-taught and a born engineer, by the age of 14 he knew for sure that he would become a car designer and work in Italy, the home of Ferrari and Lamborghini. And by the age of 17, Pagani was so versed in the design of sports cars that he was able to create his own engineering firm, which literally everyone turned to. automotive companies countries.

Perhaps the main problem further development young Pagani - the technological backwardness of the auto business in Argentina, as a result - he returns to Italy, where the direct history of the world hypercar begins.

Today, Italian cars are well known all over the world - with their temperament and passion they conquer the minds of millions, and even the mere mention of their names makes the hearts of motorists beat faster ...

No wonder, because this country is famous for such high-profile brands as Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, Alfa Romeo, Pagani - even those people who are far from the automotive theme know them.

However, although more “mundane”, but no less famous and significant manufacturers operate in Italy “ iron horses”, which are affordable not only for the “chosen ones”, are FIAT and Lancia.

And in general italian auto industry is on pretty high level development - this country is one of the most significant machine builders not only in Europe but also in the world. The production facilities of local companies are concentrated on many continents, and their annual output of "iron horses" is about 1.7 million copies (almost 90% is FIAT).

Story automotive industry Italy originates in the 1880s - when the engineer Enrico Bernardi assembled the first Gas engine and mounted it on a tricycle...

However, the first cars appeared in this country only in 1898 - when the brothers Matteo and Ernesto Ceirano founded the Ceirano GB & C company and built their first passenger car called Welleyes.
Already in 1899, it came under the patronage of a newly formed group of investors led by Giovanni Agnelli of the FIAT company, which produced the first car in the same year, and subsequently became the largest Italian automaker.

In the autumn of 1906, the famous racing driver Vincenzo Lancia, together with his partner Claudio Foggionin, laid the foundation for another legendary company - Lancia. And her first car was not long in coming - he "came" into the world on September 23, 1907.

Three years later, the history of the no less famous Italian company Alfa Romeo in the world began - it was then that the company Societa Anonima Italiana Darracq, founded in 1906 by French engineer Alexander Darracq, received this name using investments from entrepreneurs from Italy.

In 1914, Alfieri Maserati decided to create his own workshop near Bologna, and after a while his younger brothers Bindo and Ernesto - together they built a sports car with a two-liter engine, and twelve years later, with the help of third-party investors, they formed the Maserati company.

One of the most iconic Italian manufacturers - "Ferrari" - appeared in 1929, and its founding father was the talented designer and racer Enzo Ferrari. True, initially the company specialized in the production racing cars, and entered the "civilian sector" only in 1946.

It was thanks to the shortcomings in the Ferrari models that another Italian automaker, Lamborghini, was “born”. In the 1960s, Ferruccio Lamborghini, then a tractor manufacturer, discovered a clutch failure in the 250 GT and, inspired by the moment, decided to start his own supercar company. Moreover, he did not shelve the matter, already in 1964 he presented his first serial "iron horse".

During the First and Second World Wars and the economic crisis of the 1970s, many Italian brands left the scene, but the "major players" remained in the ranks, although some of them came under the auspices of FIAT.

Subsequently, the rapid development of the Italian auto industry began, thanks to which in the 1990s this country became the third most important “player” in this industry in Europe and the fifth in the world. In the same years, probably one of the youngest Italian machine builders, Pagani, was born, which was founded by Horatio Pagani.

Currently, Italian cars are known in all corners of the planet, and local manufacturers create not only heavy-duty supercars, but also small cars, family cars and even SUVs.

Italian cars known throughout the world as powerful, fast and attractive cars. And the names of the companies producing them today are widely known to everyone, even those people who are far from this topic. Well, it is worth talking about the most famous Italian automotive concerns and their most popular models.

List of companies

In total, ten factories producing cars were known in Italy. Each of them belonged to a certain concern. Why in the past tense? Because many of them have already been abolished. But that's no reason not to talk about them. It’s worth starting to list with the most famous, namely, with the “Ferrari”. Next in popularity is the Lamborghini, and then the Maserati. Also based in Italy well-known firms Alfa Romeo, Fiat and Innocenti. And there are four factories whose names are not familiar to every person - these are “De Tomaso”, “Lancia”, “Chiseta” and “Abart”. All these concerns produce Italian cars. That is why it is worth talking about each of them separately.

"Fiat"

If we talk about the most “age” Italian car companies, then this company will definitely be in the forefront of those. The FIAT concern was founded in 1899! And at the head of the new enterprise was a group of investors, among whom was also Giovanni Agnelli, who was one of the richest and most influential people on the entire planet in the 20th century. The company is now headquartered in Turin. It is also interesting that the concern was divided into two subsidiaries, one of which is engaged in the production passenger transport, and the other - industrial.

In 2016, 7 new models were released - three vans, one minivan, two hatchbacks and a commercial vehicle. In the 21st century, the FIAT concern is mainly engaged in the production of transport for the city - economical, affordable and comfortable. So, for example, a brand new Fiat 500 costs about a million rubles (which is not such a lot of money for Europeans), and consumes only 5 liters of fuel per 100 km ( maximum speed this model is 160 km / h, and acceleration to hundreds takes 13 seconds).

By the way, the Abart company mentioned at the very beginning, which was founded in 1949, has long been bought out by Fiat. And the concern even produces models under this name. So, for example, in 2008 Abarth 500 came out, and a little earlier - Abarth Grande Punto.

Alfa Romeo

This concern was founded in Milan in 1910. The company produces Italian sports cars, as well as cars for VIPs. Three words that can describe the models of this company are luxury, reliability and speed. Of the recently released cars, a sports sedan can be distinguished. It is distinguished by a 510-horsepower 3-liter twin-turbo engine that works in tandem with a 6-band manual transmission and an 8-speed “automatic”. The cost of this model in the maximum complete set- 79 thousand euros.

More recently, the company has released a sports car 4C (240-horsepower engine and robotic gearbox), the Mi To compact hatchback (which costs only R.), and the Brera 3-door coupe with an interesting design and elegant interior.

By the way, the most expensive model, released by this concern - Alfa Romeo 8C-35 Monoposto. He was published in the distant 1935! And in 2013 it was sold at auction for $9,360,000. Under the hood of this car is an 8-cylinder 3.8-liter unit that produces 330 hp. With. And these data show that even at the beginning of the last century italian models machines boasted technological excellence.

The standard of perfection

Perhaps this is how you can characterize cars produced by Ferrari. This company makes really great models. And it is very difficult to single out the most perfect ones.

But it is impossible not to note such a model as the F12 Berlinetta Mansory La Revoluzione. If we talk about what Italian cars are able to win the heart, then, perhaps, the name of this car will be the answer. The power of its motor is 1200 hp. sec., the maximum speed is 370 km / h, and acceleration to hundreds is only 2.9 seconds. And, of course, she just has an incredibly beautiful design. And the corresponding cost is 1,300,000 euros.

458 Spider Hennessey - another one luxury model. This car can reach a maximum of 330 km / h thanks to the 738-horsepower engine. And acceleration to hundreds takes only 3 seconds.

One of the most spectacular models can also be called the Enzo XX Evolution Edo Competition. This car was released in 2010. Under its hood is an 840-horsepower engine, due to which the car accelerates to a maximum of 390 km / h.

By the way, one of the cars of the Ferrari company is in the top 10. The Ferrari 330 P4 took a place in the middle of this honorable rating. And the car, despite being made in 1967, costs $9,000,000.

"Lamborghini"

This is a relatively young company, since it was founded in 1963. By the way, interesting fact: everyone knows that this company produces powerful Italian sports cars, but few people know that ... tractors also come off the assembly lines of the company's concerns. But now it's not about them.

This company has its own rating of its own models. In terms of high cost, the first place is taken by This model was released in 2014, and it costs 3,300,000 euros. Under the hood of the model is a 750-horsepower engine, thanks to which the car reaches a maximum of 355 km / h. And it accelerates to hundreds in just 2.9 seconds.

But the first place in the ranking of the most powerful models of the company is Aventador LP1600-4. The car has a 1600-horsepower engine under the hood! Due to it, the car accelerates to hundreds in just 2.1 seconds, and its maximum speed limit equals 370 km/h. Such a car costs about 2 million dollars. Yes, Italian-made cars are not cheap, but it’s not without reason that they take first place in world car ratings!

"Maserati"

Talking about Italian cars, the icons of which every person can recognize, one cannot fail to note Maserati. This concern produces exclusive cars. The company itself puts the MC12 Corsa in the first place in its own rating. Its price is 1,160,000 euros. Engine power - 755 liters. with., the maximum speed is 326 km / h, and acceleration to hundreds takes only 2.9 seconds.

And not so long ago, the company announced that fans of luxury cars will soon be able to see their novelty - a model that was given the name Levante. This is the first crossover of the Italian brand. By the way, the price is not so unbearable (for a car of such a famous company) - 72,000 euros. Under the hood of the novelty, the developers installed a 350-horsepower 6-cylinder engine. But this - basic equipment. For a novelty with a 430-horsepower engine, you will have to pay 140-145 thousand euros.

De Tomaso Automobili SpA

Not everyone has heard of this company. Therefore, it is worth talking about it in more detail. And he releases Italian sports cars. First serial production"De Tomaso" was brought to the attention of the public in 1963. And even though the company was abolished in 2012, its cars deserve attention.

Take, for example, the 1993 Guara Coupe. The power of its engine is 430 liters. with., and the maximum speed is 270 km / h. No less impressive data boasts a car called Mangusta, released in 1967. Under its hood is a 306-horsepower engine, thanks to which the car accelerates to a maximum of 249 km / h.

Another interesting model is the Pantera. She has a very unusual, original silhouette - this is her feature. And the characteristics are powerful (for 1971) - a 330-horsepower engine that accelerates the car to 259 km / h.

Now these are long-forgotten Italian cars. The names of the models of this company at one time were really well known - after all, De Tomaso cars even participated in Formula 1. And, perhaps, if it were not for the decline in the development of the company and the crisis, the concern would still exist.

Little-known firms

Innocenti is one of those firms that have long been abolished. Her work was terminated in 1997. Prior to that, the company had been manufacturing scooters for exactly 50 years and it was not easy for the Company to break into this segment, since at the time when it was founded, Fiat dominated the market. But certain models still received a calling. This is a 1963 Innocenti 950 Spider - 2 seater model with disc brakes and a 58 liter engine. Yes, it was not powerful, but it could boast of a very attractive design.

Another company is Lancia Automobiles S.p.A. It has been in existence since 1906. The Lancia LC2 series of racing cars (existed from 1983 to 1985) was especially popular. These cars were powerful - they had V-shaped 800-horsepower under their hoods. injection motors, thanks to which the maximum speed of the model was more than 350 km / h. The LC2 has won a total of three races and earned 13 pole positions.

It has not yet been said about such a company as Cizeta. This is an Italian company that was created in order to ... produce the most advanced supercar in the world. Yes, that was exactly the idea. And the history of the company began in 1980.

And in 1988, a Cizeta Moroder car was provided in Geneva, on which Italian numbers proudly shone. There were a lot of cars at the showroom, as always, but it was this model that caused a real storm of emotions. In order to understand why exactly, just look at it (photo provided above). But it was only a prototype. An upgraded version was released in 1991. Under its hood was a V-shaped 6-liter 520-horsepower 16-cylinder engine, thanks to which the car accelerated to hundreds in just 4 seconds. And the maximum speed was equal to 327 km / h.

But in 1994 the company was closed. However, she managed to become famous for her own short story, one of the most powerful engines and just a crazy price for cars (about 700 thousand euros at that time).

In general, as can be seen, each Italian firm is unique in its own way, and the models that are produced by them are also unique. And you can be sure that in the future, these companies will produce many models that will become true legends in the automotive world.
