The most indestructible car engine. The most reliable motors on modern cars: our rating

The most indestructible car engine. The most reliable motors on modern cars: our rating

20.07.2019

As you know, there are no perpetual motion machines, but all motors are different - the models of power units of modern cars have various terms services, and besides, they have their own characteristic malfunctions.

This article will consider both the most reliable engines in the world that do not break down for a long time, have a very good resource in terms of mileage and hours worked, and not the best power units.

Recently, there has been almost no mention of “millionaire” engines, of which there were many in the 80-90s of the 20th century, it is possible that it has become unprofitable for automobile companies to produce reliable engines. On the other hand, the newly developed motors have not yet traveled a certain number of kilometers, and it is too early to judge their quality. In this article, we will touch on the topic of which modern engines are the most reliable and durable, and have already proven themselves in the market, are very popular.

Among the most persistent internal combustion engines, power units from manufacturers Mitsubishi, Honda, Toyota, Opel, BMW, Mercedes are most often noted, but not all engines from these companies are successful, there are frankly weak motors with typical defects. Again, engines are different in power, therefore, in order to make a rating, it is necessary to divide all power units into car classes.

Often there is a dispute among motorists, which engines are more reliable - Japanese or European? Recently, Toyota and Honda have increasingly taken the lead, while companies such as Audi, Volkswagen and Peugeot are losing their positions. We are not talking about VAZ engines at all, it seems that domestic engines do not compete with foreign internal combustion engines?

Unlike gasoline engines, diesel engines are more capricious in Russian conditions, and more often the compilers of ratings in Russia note motors, prone to breakage. Among the most reliable power units stand out diesel engines Mercedes and Nissan, also in good standing diesel Subaru engines. Diesel engines are somewhere in the middle of the reliability rating, but Russians have a lot of complaints about Renault engines. It should also be noted that “atmospherics” are more reliable than turbodiesels - the turbine often breaks down and causes a lot of trouble for car owners.

If speak about Volkswagen diesels, then a four-cylinder diesel 1.9 TDI (models ASZ and ARL) is considered “indestructible”. This motor is produced in various modifications, well "digests" Russian diesel fuel. 1.9 TDI can pass both 400 and 500 thousand km up to overhaul- A lot depends on the operating conditions and timely maintenance.

It’s still not easy to answer the question of which diesel engines are the most reliable - among good practical engines there are not only “Japanese” and “Germans”, but also “Americans”, for example, good internal combustion engines are produced by Ford. Often reliability is determined by the percentage of breakdowns for each car, but the complexity of the breakdown itself is not taken into account. Nevertheless, it is better to turn to the reviews left by users - the popular opinion is always more objective.

As is known, on modern cars Ford installed three types of gasoline engines:

  • Duratec;
  • Zetec;
  • split port.

Split Port motors are not famous for their reliability, their sore spot– loss of saddles of valves from a head of the block of cylinders. The Zetec internal combustion engine with a timing belt drive is considered the most problem-free, on Ford vehicles Focus and Mondeo are mainly equipped with Zetec 1.6 and 2.0 liter power units. The 1.6-liter engine is generally not bad, but somewhat weak, but the two-liter engine is the most reliable:

  • practically does not consume oil (occasionally consumption is observed after 150 thousand km);
  • starts well in any frost;
  • has excellent dynamics;
  • the timing belt at the motor almost always takes care of its resource (120 thousand km);
  • at careful operation ICE without problems can pass 350-400 thousand km or more before overhaul.

There are complaints about Duratec chain motors, although in some cases they also serve 500 thousand km. popular engine for Ford cars Focus/ Mondeo, Mazda 6 is the 1.8L Duratec HE. These motors often float idling, oil is consumed above the norm, but the chain runs for a long time - its replacement is required on a run of 200-250 thousand km.

Honda powertrains are renowned for their reliability and according to research in the UK, Japanese engines Honda ranks first in terms of the minimum number of breakdowns per vehicle in percentage terms. The most popular among Honda engines are the K20 series models; in 2001, these engines replaced the F20 and B20 ICEs. Two-liter power units have a good power reserve, on average, no more than one liter of oil is consumed per 10 thousand km, the standard engine life is 300-400 thousand km. But you need to operate the engine carefully, and it should be noted that the K20 is not intended for sports competitions, it does not “like” bad oil and low-quality gasoline.

Car owners respond very well to the B20B engine, and some boast that the car starts with it in any frost. However, it should be noted that frequent cold engine start at temperatures below minus 25ºC without a preheater, it reduces the life of the power unit. And also, no matter how good engine was not, if poor quality is poured into it engine oil, do not service the motor, overheat, the engine will quickly fail and turn out to be completely unreliable.

Legendary engines - "millionaires"

It is believed that in the eighties produced car motors, which could work up to 1 million km without major repairs. In particular, it seems that one of these power units is the Mercedes-Benz ICE model M102 (installed on Mercedes cars in bodies W123 and W124). But in the world everything is relative, and for some car owners this engine did not nurse even 200 thousand km - a lot depends on the operating conditions.

There are also legends about "Toyota" diesel engines of 2.5 liters, about 4G63 gasoline engines Mitsubishi. Of course, these internal combustion engines have a very good resource and honestly work out their million kilometers, but with one caveat - overhaul (and even more than one) during the life of the internal combustion engine is still carried out, since the cylinders cannot be eternal, and they wear out after 300 -400 thousand km. Those motors that continue to operate longer are already losing their power.

Although VAZ engines are not included in the rating of reliable automotive power units, it is worth talking about them. The VAZ cars themselves are characterized bad quality assembly, big amount marriage, but the engines on Ladakh are surprisingly reliable, 8-valve internal combustion engines are considered especially successful.

For VAZ-2112 engines, the normal run to overhaul is 200-300 thousand km, although the manufacturer claims a resource of 150 thousand. VAZ-21083 engines, during normal operation and timely oil changes, can last even longer - up to 400 thousand km.

VAZ comes across 16-valve engines, which immediately begin to "crumble":

  • appears increased consumption oils;
  • various knocks occur in the internal combustion engine;
  • oil appears in the candle wells;
  • the engine is prone to overheating.

Unfortunately, all VAZ products are a kind of lottery, and the defect rate at the factory is quite high. But the very design of the engines can be safely called successful - the engines sometimes endure considerable “bullying” of drivers, and at the same time they also survive.

It is impossible to speak unambiguously about Renault engines - in the line of power units there are both successful models and frankly weak ones. The 8-valve engines K7M and K7J, respectively, with volumes of 1.6 and 1.4 liters are considered very reliable. The design of these engines is very simple, and there is practically nothing to break here. Timing drive French motors- belt, valves are regulated by screws, there are no hydraulic compensators. K7M is the most popular - it is installed on car renault Logan/ Sandero/ Symbol/ Clio, also this power unit cars manufactured by VAZ Lada Largus are completed. K7J is good for everyone, but its power is not enough for a mid-size passenger car.

The K7M motor has a timing belt drive, it is recommended to replace parts of the gas distribution mechanism after 60 thousand km. The engine resource is very good - on average, internal combustion engines are nursed for 400 thousand km without overhaul.

Renault has engines with low reliability - these are 1.5 / 1.9 and 2.2 liter diesel engines. The problem of motors is quite serious - the crankshaft knocks from the loads, and the knock connecting rod bearings- This is definitely a major overhaul with all the ensuing costs. The resource of Renault diesel engines is small, and the "capital" may be required after 130-150 thousand kilometers.

Myths about super reliable engines

The reliability of an automobile engine is a relative concept, since not everything depends on design features power unit. One and the same internal combustion engine, even if it is three times “millionaire”, can be quickly disabled in inept hands with a careless attitude. At the same time, a motor of not the most successful design can last a long time, but for this you need:

  • fill in high-quality engine oil that meets the technical conditions, preferably always of the same brand;
  • change the oil according to the regulations;
  • in no case do not overheat the internal combustion engine;
  • do not allow the motor to operate at increased loads (at constant high speeds).

If you follow all the rules of operation, the engine will work for a long time.

Everyone knows that once, in the distant 80s and 90s, there were “millionaire” motors that served faithfully for hundreds of thousands of kilometers. So, in fact, it is - we made their rating not so long ago. But there are worthy successors of the cause of "millionaires" even today.

For some reason, it is believed that modern cars are disposable. Ride three years, sold and went for a new one. But this is at least an exaggeration and a generalization. Indeed, there is failed engines, but this is only part of the market. People own cars for 5-7 or even 10 years and, scary to say, buy them second-hand! So, reliable motors exist. Question: how to find them?

What car and with what engine to buy, so that it not only does not break down during the warranty period, but also does not fall under recall campaigns, does not require expensive Supplies and special service equipment. He ran happily ever after, albeit more slowly, consuming a little more fuel than more progressive brothers.

Renault 1.6 16v K4M

Different classes of cars have their own leaders, and, of course, more complex and expensive cars are not well suited for harsh operating conditions, but they also have their leaders and laggards in terms of the required amount of maintenance and the likelihood of failure.

small class

Let's start with class B +, since this size is one of the most common in Russia. The segment is developing rapidly, and there are a variety of cars in it: both our Kalina-Grants and foreign cars for every taste and budget. Almost all machines are extremely practical and are not burdened with special innovations. But this is only in Russia; abroad, such cars are often equipped with more advanced engines. Fortunately, there are few "imported" cars, most of the cars in this segment have long taken root on Russian soil and are produced here, or supplied in special Russian configurations.

The undisputed leader is the K7M engine from Renault. The recipe for reliability is simple: a displacement of 1.6 liters and only eight valves, no complications. Timing belt drive, no hydraulic lifters, simple cast iron block, a simple ignition module, no “newfangled” stuff at all. Such motors are installed on the “folk” Logan and Sandero and do not cause much trouble. There is simply nothing to break, and the workmanship is excellent.

The second and third places, perhaps, should be given to the VAZ-21116 and Renault K4M engines. The first engine is also 1.6 and eight-valve, simple and reliable. But sometimes build quality, wiring quality fails, and cars with manual transmission are not the most reliable, because the box is not designed for increased.

sixteen valve motor K4M from Renault is just a little more complicated and a little more expensive. Not so easy to carry high loads. But they install it not only on Logan, but also on Duster, Megane, Kangoo, Fluence and other cars.

Middle class

There is already one of the leaders in reliability in the C-class - this is the mentioned K4M from Renault. But cars are somewhat heavier, cars with are more common, which means that the power requirements are slightly higher. 1.6 engines will obviously have a smaller resource than engines with a displacement of 1.8 and 2 liters, which means that it is worth highlighting 1.6 engines in a separate group for those who do not need to drive fast.

Probably the simplest, cheapest resource engine for cars in the C-class can be called the very venerable Z18XER. The design is the most conservative, except that phase shifters and an adjustable thermostat are installed. Timing belt drive, simple injection system and a good margin of safety. The power of 140 forces is enough for comfortable movement of such difficult cars as J and Chevrolet Cruse, as well as a minivan.

In the photo: the engine from Opel Astra J

The second place in terms of reliability can be given to a series of engines from Hyundai / Kia / Mitsubushi G4KD / 4B11. These two-liter engines are the heirs of the famous Mitsubishi 4G63, including in terms of reliability. Not without a timing system for adjusting the timing phases, and in its drive there is a completely reliable chain. simple system power supply and good build quality, but the timing chain drive is more complicated and expensive, and the motor itself is noticeably more technologically advanced, so only second place. The power of the motors, however, is noticeably higher, all 150-165 hp. This is more than enough for any C-class car with any load, on the highway and in the city, with automatic transmission and with “mechanics”. Such engines were installed on a huge number of cars, here and Hyundai i30, Kia Cerato, Ceed, Mitsubishi Lancer and other cars and crossovers of a higher class: Mitsubishi ASX, Outlander, Hyundai Sonata, Elantra, ix35 and Kia Optima.

The Renault-Nissan MR20DE / M4R engine may well claim third place. This two-liter gasoline engine has been produced for quite a long time, since 2005, and in terms of design it also goes back to “ glorious ancestors” F-series from the 80s. The key to success lies precisely in the conservatism of the design and a moderate degree of forcing. Compared to the leaders, it has a less reliable cylinder head, sometimes the chain still stretches, but still it allows you to exchange all three hundred thousand kilometers with careful operation, and the price of spare parts does not go off scale.

Junior business class

In the D + segment, two-liter engines from among the C-class reliability leaders are also popular, and here they look good, because the mass of cars does not differ so much. But complex and “prestigious” high-power motors are more popular.

Motor 2AR-FE with a power of 165-180 hp and a working volume of 2.5 liters is installed on one of the bestsellers in the D + segment, on Toyota Camry, and without a doubt is the most common and reliable motor in its class. They are installed on both RAV4 crossovers and Alphard minivans. The motor is quite simple, but the key to success is in the quality of execution and frequent maintenance Toyota cars.

In the photo: engine from Toyota Camry

The second place is deservedly received by the G4KE / 4B12 engines from Hyundai / Kia / Mitsubishi. These engines have a working volume of 2.4 liters and a power of 176-180 hp. installed on Kia Optima, Hyundai Sonata, many others passenger models and a galaxy Mitsubishi crossovers Outlander/Peugeot 4008/Citroen C-Crosser. The design is close to the G4KD / 4B11 motors, and in the same way they are the heirs of reliable Mitsubishi motors. Design without any special frills in the form of direct injection, timing chain drive plus phase shifters. A good margin of power and resource, not too expensive parts- that's the key to success.

But there will be no third place. Turbo engines on European cars noticeably more difficult to operate and potentially more vulnerable. Relatively reliable turbodiesels still require more High Quality service. And the third place goes to fairly simple units, for example, the already mentioned Z18XER on Opel Insignia or Duratec Ti-VCT on Ford Mondeo, and if you have enough power and you drive calmly, then they will also be the most inexpensive to operate.

Senior business class

Prestigious E-class sedans are not low cost cars, and the engines in this class are complex and powerful. And often they cannot boast of special reliability. But even among them there are leaders and units with high reliability.

Again, Toyota is in the lead, or rather Lexus, but you know that the company is essentially one? Motors 3.5 of the 2GR-FE and 2GR-FSE series are installed on Lexus ES and GS models and on luxury Lexus SUVs RX. Despite high power and low weight, this is a very successful gasoline engine, in the version without direct injection, it is considered one of the most trouble-free in its class.

The second place is deservedly taken by Volvo with its B6304T2 in-line “six” with a volume of 3 liters. The first turbo engine in our rating turns out to be even simpler and cheaper than diesel engines in operation. Largely due to the venerable age of the design with a good margin of safety and relatively low prices for service.

Perhaps the main and most important unit in the car is the engine. Its breakdown can leave the car owner without a vehicle for long term. In addition, engine repair is the most expensive type of maintenance, and every car owner would like to avoid it. Therefore, in this article we will find out which car engines the most reliable and durable. We will consider available and popular on Russian market car models, and we will figure out what advantages and disadvantages their power units have.

The most reliable engines of modern passenger cars

Renaul Logan and his K7J and K4M

These engines are equipped with Renault Logan of the first generation. Both units have earned a reputation as one of the simplest and most reliable engines. The K7M stands out in this sense - an 8-valve 1.4-liter engine. This is a simple cast-iron engine, in which there is simply nothing to break: the timing mechanism is belt-driven, there are no hydraulic compensators. The disadvantages of the motor include the need to periodically adjust the valves, replace the timing belt every 60 thousand kilometers (this is done in order to avoid breaking it - in this case, the valves will bend at the motor), and relatively frequent oil changes: once every 7500 kilometers (twice more often than recommended by the manufacturer).

Based on the K7J, a 16-valve K4M was developed, on which hydraulic lifters, two camshafts, and other pistons appeared. This motor is more economical, quieter and more stable than its 8-valve version. At the same time, he retained the main advantage of the K7M - reliability. The disadvantages of both engines are the same, but in addition to the standard set of sixteen valves, there are problems with ignition coils, spark plugs and injectors.

The resource of both engines reaches 400,000 kilometers, but in practice, with timely maintenance, these motors can run even more. The environmental class of this engine is Euro4.

Volkswagen Polo Sedan and CWVA engine

This is a 4-cylinder in-line engine with an aluminum cylinder block. Its feature was thin (1.5 mm) walls cast iron sleeves and long-stroke crankshaft. The block head is equipped with hydraulic lifters and two camshafts. The CWVA does not have a variable valve timing system, and the timing is driven by a chain. motor match environmental class Euro 5, and consumes relatively little fuel: about 9 liters in the urban cycle.

Owners Volkswagen Polo equipped with this engine face two main problems: engine knock during cold starts and when driving over bumps. Both problems are caused by the specifics of the engine design: the shape of the pistons and the left engine mount, respectively.

CWVA will travel 200 thousand kilometers or more without problems, provided timely replacement oils.

VAZ-21116 and VAZ-21127 - Lada Granta and Kalina units

21116 is a heavily redesigned and modified motor. Compared to its predecessors, this engine is less noisy, consumes less fuel and delivers more power. All in all, it's relatively modern engine, which occupies a worthy place among competitors. 21116 is an 8-valve in-line four with 87 hp. Timing belt drive, camshaft located on top. Main disadvantage motor - the risk of bending the valves when the timing belt breaks. There are other problems: burnt valves, causing knocking and “triple” of the engine, malfunctions of the ignition module and thermostat.

21127 is a 16-valve modification of 21116. Its power is 106 hp, which is quite enough for Grants, Kalina and Vesta, on which it is installed. The main difference from other VAZ engines is installed system intake with a resonant chamber of variable volume. As a result, the engine pulls better from the bottom, at high speeds, changes in traction are not so noticeable.

Ravon Gentra and Nexia R3 with B15D2 engine

This 1.5-liter engine is distinguished by a combination of reliability, economy and manufacturability: the cylinder block itself is cast iron, the head is made of aluminum, the timing chain drive. Application modern technologies allowed to achieve increased returns with a smaller volume of the motor - specifications the B15D2 has the following: the engine develops 107 hp. and transmits to the front wheels up to 141 N * m of torque. The motor complies with the Euro5 environmental class. Fuel consumption is kept around the mark of 8.5 liters per 100 kilometers in the urban cycle (paired with a manual transmission). The designers managed to achieve such efficiency due to the reduction in engine size and correct selection gear ratios transmission.

Results

We found out which car brands have the most reliable engines. By choosing a car with a motor from this list, you can be sure that when proper maintenance the power unit will not fail at the wrong time, and you do not have to spend a large number of time and money to repair it. It is important to remember that any motor can last full term service only subject to regular and timely replacement of oil and other consumables. If you give him due attention, he will travel with you more than one hundred thousand kilometers, and will delight you with trouble-free operation.

We bring to your attention the 10 best Japanese auto companies, you will find out what engines they produce. It is clear that a car is chosen not only by what engine it has, but still, this factor should not be "discarded". You will learn the consumer properties of the best Japanese auto engines, such as resource, reliability, efficiency, ease of operation, and repair. 10 best Japanese engines, read in this publication.

After reading this article, many will say: “Yes, my 4D56 is the best engine, has never been repaired, and it only consumes 5 l / 100 km.” Therefore, I will immediately make a reservation that everything that is written in this article is based on statistics. And if your engine hasn't broken down yet, you're lucky. I would like this article to be read by the inhabitants of the western and central regions of the Russian Federation, because. it will help them make up for the lack of “communication” with Japanese cars.

Toyota

The engines of this company are perfectly repairable and very reliable (although, as they say, the engine is different for the engine). In Toyota engines, it is quite rare to find such “bells and whistles” as balancing shafts (unlike Mitsubishi, which loves them very much); valve timing configuration system (although Toyota has increasingly begun to implement the VVTi system) and other things that affect reliability. Toyota cars have a well-organized engine compartment, so servicing such cars is quite simple.

Among Japanese Toyota engines, you can meet both very reliable and excellent engines, as well as obviously bad units. The best engines are in-line 6-cylinder JZ and 1G series. Repairing A-series engines (not counting the 4A-GE, which has 5 valves per cylinder) is not at all difficult. Repair of other Toyota engines will not give you any special trouble. Toyota's bad engines include only 2C-T, 2L-T (E), and petrol series VZ. In the latter, the crankshaft bearing necks wear out very rapidly.

The engines of this company are the most reliable and undemanding (I expect that many will disagree with me), but see for yourself:

1) Only Nissan produces engines with gear and chain drives timing mechanism, which, as you understand, is better than rubber timing belts.

2) When the engine overheats in Nissan diesel engines, warping or cracking of the cylinder head quite rarely occurs.

3) Many gasoline engines Nissan allow you to drive on 76-m gasoline for quite a long time, but you should not abuse it.

I can give a few more examples why Japanese Nissan engines are not inferior in quality to other best ones. Japanese models. So the VQ engines, which are on the Cedric, Maxima / Cefiro and many other models, have been considered the best in the world among their own “classmates” for about 7 years.

Diesel engines of the TD series installed on the Safari / Patrol, Terrano / Pasfinder, Caravan / Urvan models were originally developed for boats. You probably do not understand, but marine engines have always been very reliable, unlike cars. On the engines of the TD series there is a gear drive of the gas distribution mechanism. It is necessary to see that the timing gear drive can often be found on the Toyota 3V diesel engine. In the main, there are no problems with this engine, but if they do, it is exclusively in the fuel system.

The only shortcomings of Nissan engines are that they are more difficult to maintain and repair, compared to Toyota engines. This is due to the fact that under the hood nissan cars everything is very tightly packed.

I note that the best and most reliable Nissan engines are SR18/20, RB20/25/26, GA13/15/16, TD23/25/27/42.

Basically, Nissan had no problematic engines, not counting the CA18 / 20 (due to the dual-circuit ignition system) and VG20 / 30 (fast wear of the crankshaft bearing journals).

Mitsubishi

Perhaps the most problematic and difficult to repair are Japanese engines. Mitsubishi engine designers apparently did not try to find ordinary and reliable solutions. The introduction of plastic carburetors, balance shafts, specific fuel injection systems, V arrangement cylinders, of course, does not increase the maintainability and reliability of engines. For example, it is not clear to many how the inline four-cylinder engines on the Galant model manage to work very smoothly, but everything is simple here, this is achieved by an “artificial” rim, thanks to the use of balancing shafts. When there are no problems with the engine, the shafts work normally, everything is fine, but as the drive to the shafts breaks (which often happens on supported units), the engine, which at first was not designed to work without them, can eventually get into a very serious repair. Particularly problematic are the turbocharged 4D56 and 4D55 diesels, whose cylinder heads often explode because the material from which they were made cannot withstand the low temperatures of our formidable Russian winters.

The reliability of the heads is very much affected by low temperatures, and it is for this reason that cracks appear in the heads due to high thermal stresses. The higher the temperature difference on both sides of the wall, the higher the temperature stresses. Now imagine - on the other side of the window minus 20, you are in a hurry to work, start your own engine, due to lack of time decide not to warm it up to operating temperature (by the way, a lot of people do this, because they have to wait a very long time) and start movement. From the side of the combustion chamber, a saturated heating of the head occurs, despite the fact that the temperature of the cooling water and the entire head is even lower than the working one. In this situation, the temperature stresses are very high, in addition, there are mechanical stresses from gas pressure. In any case, cracks will not appear immediately in one or a couple of times. But evenly microcracks will begin to appear, which can then grow into such that gases will break through into the coolant through them. It is worth seeing that even on a warmed-up engine there can be the highest thermal stresses if the engine will work for a long time under the highest load, and even with a full supply of fuel.

But on naturally aspirated diesels, it is difficult to find cracks in the heads, since they usually do not exist there, and all this is due to lower temperature stresses, because. less fuel is burned, respectively, the temperature of the gases in the cylinder is less. Pain in the head of auto mechanics - EFI - diesel 4M40, to be more precise, it is a diesel engine with electronically controlled high pressure fuel pump, it can often be found on the Pajero model.

Let's put it this way, Japanese Mitsubishi engines are designed for a very timely and qualified service. And if you decide to buy a Mitsubishi car for yourself, then take it better with a “more ordinary” engine, for example, with the 4G15 found on the Lancer model.

This auto concern produces very high quality engines, with the least number of flaws. If you operate the Honda engine normally (in other words, you will create maintenance on time and will not fill it with bad oil and gasoline), then it will not give you nasty surprises. But Honda engines also have their own characteristics, which cannot be ignored:

1) Many (but not all!) engines of this company have the highest degree forcing, therefore it often happens when some Honda Integra is brought from the Land of the Rising Sun (on the tachometer, the reddish zone starts at 8000 rpm) and its engine already needs a complete overhaul, because. it has already developed its own resource.

2) When repairing, huge difficulties often arise due to such common Honda “bells and whistles” as: two electrically controlled carburetors per engine, VTEC, etc. In Honda engines, even the crankshaft turns in reverse side, unlike other Japanese engines.

3) These engines certainly need high-quality oil and fuel, and this also applies to highly accelerated engines.

But most of the troubles, as we have already said, come from the “wound” and forced Honda engines, but if your car has a “measured” engine (for example, F23A or C35A), then you have nothing to fear.

Mazda

The engines of the Japanese company Mazda are not the most reliable, and not the most problematic. At Mazda, they don’t really like to experiment with engines (not counting rotary units). Due to the fact that Mazda engines lack various innovations, this has a positive effect on their maintainability and reliability. According to these indicators, they are only slightly inferior to Toyota engines.

Subaru

Many Subaru engines have a boxer assembly that provides higher rigidity and strength of the cylinder block. It is worth seeing that Subaru was rather difficult to repair. Old engines, the EA82 series, which were produced before 1989, have always been famous for their reliability. From 1989 to the present time, new engines of the EJ series (EJ15, EJ18, EJ20, EJ25, EJ30) began to be installed on Subaru cars. This is not to say that they are very reliable, in general, they are quite good. The only thing they differ in is the moderate degree of forcing, specific fuel injection systems, also the absence of variable valve timing, etc. It is worth seeing that diesels are not installed on Subaru and Honda cars. Subaru engines are demanding on the quality of fuel and oil, therefore, in terms of quality, they are approximately on a par with Toyota engines.

Due to the fact that Suzuki engines do not deliver special troubles to their owner, one cannot say bad things about them. True, I can’t say anything about small motors with a displacement of 660 cm3 (by the way, Suzuki produces many cars with such engines). The popular Escudo and Vitara models are equipped with in-line 4-cylinder G16A, the displacement is 1.6 liters, they are quite ordinary in repair, they are also reliable, but the newer V-shaped 6-cylinder J20A with a displacement of 2.0 l. and H25A with a volume of 2.5 liters. more capricious than the 4-cylinder G16A.

Daihatsu

It is worth seeing that there are very few of these cars, so there is not much information on them either. I didn't see any flaws in them. It so happened that Daihatsu designers are not fond of various "bells and whistles" such as variable valve timing.

This Japanese automaker has long ceased to produce its own models. cars. At the moment, Isuzu is known for its SUVs and trucks, which are often equipped with diesel engines. It must be said that Japanese Isuzu diesel engines are always famous for their unpretentiousness and reliability (although the 4JX1 diesel engine, which is installed on the Bighorn and Trooper models, is still the least reliable than the Nissan TD27). If we talk about Isuzu gasoline engines, then I have not heard anything disgusting about them, especially since they are relatively ordinary in design.

Specifications Acura cars, usually do not differ from the corresponding characteristics of Honda models. Even the model names are the same. Most of the models are made specifically in North America(TL and CL series) and individual models- RL and NSX are imported from the Land of the Rising Sun due to low demand. Release only american models Acura in 1999 amounted to 101.3 thousand units. It is worth seeing that Acura's best Japanese engine is the i-DTEC (turbocharged engine), launched in 2009. Thanks to i-DTEC, the amount of harmful exhaust gases is miniaturized, it has great power, consumes less fuel, is environmentally friendly, does not create a lot of noise, and provides good driving properties. Driving a car with an i-DTEC engine is a pleasure.

And in conclusion, I would like to add that in our top 10, the best and most reliable Japanese engine is the one that is correctly exploited. I hope that this article will help you resolve many disputes when choosing a car.
