Jammed seat belt what to do. Tools, fixtures, consumables for repairs

Perhaps not every motorist knows what a wedged belt is? In a new car, of course, everything works flawlessly, but over time, a problem may appear - the mechanism responsible for the operation of the seat belt will begin to jam. It usually prevents the belt from being pulled out of the reel. Even if you try to pull it very slowly, what can we say when you want to buckle up in winter!

The problem is quite simple, and in order to solve it, you need only ten minutes. You don't even have to get out of your car. Here is a detailed photo report on the repair of the driver's seat belt.

But first, stock up on the following tools:

  1. Screwdriver short cross-shaped.
  2. Slotted screwdriver.
  3. Ring wrench (“17”).
  4. Clothespin, best of all ordinary stationery.
  5. Plastic bag to protect the seat from possible contamination.
  6. A piece of ordinary hard wire.
  7. Medical syringe with a tube.
  8. Gasoline "Galosha" (gasoline for lighters).

Now let's get straight to the point. We take a short Phillips screwdriver and unscrew the four screws on the lower trim of the middle door pillar with it. Then remove the overlay by gently pulling it up and slightly towards you.

at the next stage of the repair, we pull out the seat belt completely. Important! Do not forget to lock it with a clerical clothespin on a special eyelet.

Now, using the wrench, unscrew the bolt that secures the seat belt reel. Now this coil can be easily removed from a special bracket. To prevent the belt from winding, fix it with the same paper clip on the spool itself. Be sure to fix the belt so that it does not prevent you from further performing the necessary operations.

Don't forget to cover the seat with a plastic bag so you don't accidentally get it dirty. Now you can put a reel from the belt on it, and transfer to the next seat yourself.

Look for the cover under which the inertial mechanism itself is located. Usually it is a little thicker - in the photo it is on the left. You can also shake the coil itself - where it rattles, this mechanism is located there.

But before removing the cover, you must first remove the four plastic pistons. They just need to be squeezed out with wire. Just hold on so they don't fly apart. Now you can pry off the cover with a slotted screwdriver, and then remove it.

Under this cover is the primary mechanism of the belt - a box with a cylinder, in the middle of which there is a ball and a "rocker". You can also pry it with a wire and then freely remove it with your fingers.

Carefully check the "rocker", does it rotate freely on the axis or not? If you place the “rocker” vertically and start tilting it towards the ball, then it should take up a vertical position very quickly, without any jamming!
If there are such jamming, then you should flush the axis of rotation so that it begins to rotate freely again!

You will see that in the very center of the serrated hole is a eccentric with teeth. It is he who jams the belt if it is pulled out sharply. The area under this device should be thoroughly cleaned. To do this, you just need to pour a little gasoline around the entire perimeter of the hole, as well as in the center. In this case, it is necessary to remove the clothespin from the belt, and with one hand holding the belt so that it does not wind up.

At the next stage of our repair, take the coil with one hand so that you can hold the guide with the spring with your index finger, but with the other hand, tighten and wind the belt at the same time a couple of times. Just pull sharply a couple of times so that the mechanism itself comes into full engagement. Now again we fix the belt on its coil, and then repeat the same procedure again a couple of times.

Now your seat belt will work like clockwork! It remains only to assemble the coil and put it in its place, but now all actions must be performed in reverse order.

The seat belt is designed to prevent dangerous movements of a person in the passenger compartment of a vehicle during hard braking or an accident, which reduces the likelihood and severity of injuries. The seat belt was invented in the last century and during the period of its existence it managed to save a lot of human lives. If the seat belt in the car does not work, it must be repaired or replaced as soon as possible, since driving with a damaged belt is extremely dangerous and, moreover, contrary to traffic rules. More on this later in the article.

The seat belt is a belt of sufficient strength that, when sudden stop vehicle or, in the event of an accident, prevents the movement of passengers in the vehicle. This is the simplest and most popular system. passive safety transport. Seat belts were used as early as 1885, but only thirty years later appeared in production cars. Machine manufacturers were wary of the introduction of belts. Installation required investment additional funds, which affected the cost of cars and trade.

When the law on the mandatory use of seat belts was adopted in the USSR, he was met quite aggressively. Various arguments were put forward against him. But, the controversy subsided over time and today the belts are very widely used. Today, only five percent of motorists doubt their needs.

Any belt consists of a retractor, a lock, fastening bolts and a webbing. The latter are made from various synthetic materials. The strength of the straps directly depends on the quality of the material. A label is sewn to the tape, on which there is a seat belt marking.

IN modern transport use retractable emergency locking devices that operate on the principle of an ordinary ratchet mechanism. It is blocked by a sensitive element. At the heart of the design this mechanism includes metal ball and pendulum. When the pendulum or ball is displaced, the coil is fixed using a system of levers.

The helical axis of the coil has a disk - a handwheel. When the driver or passenger puts on the belt, the strap is pulled slowly, as a result of which the disk with the shaft simply rotates. But, in the event of an accident, there is a sharp movement of the strap. Overcoming the force of friction, the disk presses on the helical surface and the disk is displaced, as a result of which it blocks the ratchet.

Jammed seat belt, causes

If the seat belt cannot be pulled out of the installation slot, then most likely it is jammed. There may be several reasons for this:

Depending on the vehicle model, the driver may receive a message that the belts are jammed. This message can be both light and sound. Concerning light signal, then it may appear on dashboard or displayed on the monitor on-board computer, if there is one. But, a motorist warning may look different. A loud click, which is not typical for a security system, can also act as a signal. This signal the driver will hear even while driving with loud music turned on. In any case, the car owner will receive an appropriate signal if vehicle equipped with brains.

How to clean the seat belt without removing the inertial device, how to clean the rocker of the locking mechanism

How to clean the seat belt if the inertial device does not work, step by step instructions

This completes the mechanism cleaning procedure. We assemble in the reverse order. It is important to do everything right, because an incorrectly assembled mechanism with regular use of the belts will cause them to break in the near future.

You also need to make sure that all components of this node move freely and work correctly. If something is wrong, repeat the cleaning. Only when right approach you can avoid major mistakes and correctly perform all actions.

Over time, the VAZ 2110 begins buckle the seat belt, that is, it prevents the belt from being pulled out of the spool, even when you pull it very slowly. Or in winter, the belt is hard to pull out of the coil and you have to apply great effort to buckle up.

Many owners of dozens face with two unpleasant moments when using seat belts:

  1. Jamming the seat belts, even when you pull them out very slowly.
  2. Tight stretching of seat belts in the cold
According to UNECE Regulation No. 14-05; 16-04, GOST R 41.14; 41.16.
Belt malfunctions (does not hold the lock, the reel lazily retracts the strap or does not fix it, etc.) cannot be eliminated by yourself! Any tampering with the design or installation of the seat belt relieves the manufacturer of the responsibility for the correct functioning of the seat belt and for injuries sustained in an accident.
Some locks, retractors, etc. specially made so that after disassembly it is no longer possible to reassemble them. But blowing compressed air- admissible;

Therefore, you do all actions with seat belts at your own peril and risk.

How seat belts work:
The coil blocker is made on the basis of a ratchet mechanism locked by a sensitive element - a pendulum with a hemispherical support or a metal ball located in a larger diameter sphere. The ball or pendulum, moving, through a system of levers, fixes the ratchet gear of the coil to the body. A handwheel disk is installed on its axis on screw slots with a small angle. When the strap is pulled out slowly, the disc only rotates with the shaft due to friction, without locking the spool. When the tape is jerked, the disk, by inertia, presses harder on the helical surface, overcomes the friction force and, moving along the screw slots, blocks the ratchet

Repair of seat belts VAZ 2110

In order to do-it-yourself seat belt reel repair need to:
Removing the seat belt reel
. It is not necessary to remove the seats for this, it is enough to move them forward and tilt the backs forward.
Determine the side where the blocking device is located(usually the thicker half). You can determine this by shaking the belt near the ear, where the ball will strum, there is a blocker. Or you can completely unwind the belt, the blocker on the side where there is a plastic square on the sidewall.

Inertial coil: a - body; b - coil; c - retracting spiral spring; g - inertial mechanism; d - ball; e - control ratchet; g - blocking ratchet.

If you mistakenly disassemble the coil from the other side, where the winding spring is located, then keep in mind that the spring can cut your hands and face. Therefore, it is better not to make mistakes with the choice of the side :)

Remove the cover(you need to pull out 4 pistons). Be careful not to spill the insides! The cover must be removed in a horizontal position.

Disassembling the seat belt reel(without effort) and get to the blocking ratchet.
Nearby in a rectangular case with a foot there is a ball that blocks the belt when the reel body is tilted.

Getting to the moving parts remove thickened grease, which looks like a dry substance and only interferes with the precise operation of the blocking mechanism.
Lubricate the seat belt reel mechanism. And you need to lubricate with a lubricant that does not thicken in the cold (lithol, CV joint, fiol, motor or transmission oil won't fit). A frost-resistant lubricant Ciatim201 (or its equivalent) or a good silicone lubricant is required.

Besides, for a more precise operation of the seat belt mechanism you can bend the bracket, or rather bend the copper paw, which is affected by the ball. The fact is that due to the weight of the ball, it unbends slightly and the belt works worse and worse.
That is, it is necessary to reduce the bending angle of the copper foot so that when the coil is in a vertical position, the latch does not engage with the teeth of the coil.
We check that when the coil is tilted, the latch works.

There are opinions that you can simply throw out this block with a ball and the seat belts will work without problems, however, this latch works not only when the car is turned over, but is also an inertial mechanism and will block the belt even when hard braking or strong shaking of the body. That's why, nothing needs to be thrown out of the seat belt reel.

We collect everything in the reverse order.
Now the seat belt works perfectly in any frost.

VAZ car owners eventually face a problem - seat belts begin to wedge, they are difficult to pull out of the coil even if you pull them slowly. The most common problems with seat belts are they get stuck or hard to get out. According to the rules, self-elimination such a problem is impossible, as the manufacturer will not be responsible for the performance of the seat belts and for injuries sustained in an accident.

Some retractors and locks are designed so that once disassembled, they cannot be reassembled. To restore their performance, you can blow with compressed air. We must not forget that when modifying seat belts, you act at your own peril and risk.

Refinement order

First, the belt reel is removed from regular place, to do this, you need to move it forward and tilt the back. After that, you should determine on which side the blocking device is located. To do this, you can simply shake the strap in front of your ear to hear where the ball rings. That's where the blocker is. You can use another way - unwind the belt completely and see on which sidewall the plastic square is located. On the same side is the blocker.

The inertial coil consists of a body, a helical retracting spring, a ball, inertial mechanism, control and blocking ratchet. If you disassemble the coil from the side where the coil spring is located, then the spring may fly out and cause injury. We must not forget about security measures!

While holding in a horizontal position, carefully remove the cover, after which you can disassemble the coil. We need a blocking ratchet. The blocking belt ball, when the reel body is tilted, is located in a rectangular body. From rubbing elements must be removed old grease, which at long-term operation turns into a dry substance. After that, a new lubricant is applied. We must not forget that the new grease should not thicken at low temperatures. For a clear operation of the mechanism, it is necessary to bend the bracket - a copper foot, which is affected by the ball. Under the influence of the ball, the foot unbends slightly over time, which leads to bad job belt. With a decrease in the bending angle of the foot, the latch coil, being in a vertical position, will not engage with the teeth of the coil. You also need to make sure that the lock is activated when the coil is tilted.

After completion, the belt reel will serve for a long time in any cold weather. It should be remembered that seat belts are not made for traffic inspectors, but to save the life and health of the driver and passengers of the car. Be sure to buckle up before driving, and unfasten your seat belts only after the engine is turned off.

Once upon a time, about 4 months ago, I decided to check the performance of the seat belt for the passenger on back seat. I began to slowly pull out this belt (it was not very easy to pull out, I must say) and pulling it out to the end, I suddenly realized one terrible thing - it was not going to be wound back! Cursing, I hid this belt under the seat and left it like that until better times, which, however, were not long in coming and soon came due to the approaching those. inspection. Deciding to finally deal with this problem, I unscrewed the belt and took it home. None theoretical knowledge about the device of the seat belt mechanism, I did not possess, so it was decided to disassemble everything and see with my own eyes (unexpectedly, huh? ;)). The mechanism for winding/unwinding the belt is a reel with a belt mounted on a frame. Both sides of the coil axis are covered with plastic casings. I decided to remove these covers. Under the first casing there was a mechanism for locking the belt with a sharp pull - an interesting mechanism, but I will not describe it now. On the second casing there was an intriguing inscription: “Do not remove”. Naturally, such an inscription only provoked me, and without hesitation I made a “remove” and ... just in time dodged the spring that flew out with terrible force and ringing =) The spring fell to the floor, wriggled a little, curled up into a huge tangled ball and froze. This is where I got a little bummed out. But there is nothing to do - I had to deal with this spring. I will omit all the obscene language that accompanied this process, and I will also omit the process itself, I will only talk about the spring winding algorithm I obtained experimentally. First the most important thing: the spring band has more than one given direction twists and two, that is, in the extended state, it tries to curl into the letter “S”, and not “C”, and the parts of the tape with different twist directions have different lengths - the outer end of the tape is long, and the inner one is short. Moreover, when winding, the outer end is twisted against the direction of the bend! I suggest winding the spring into the cassette (the white round box in which the spring should sit) as follows: curl the short end around the post (chair legs in my case) and gradually move away, unwind the tape. Then insert the end of the tape into the groove on the cassette (outer edge!) Start gradually putting the spring into the cassette, approaching the chair leg. First against the fold line (long end) then along the fold line (inner end). You should get something similar to this image:

Next, put the cassette with the spring on the axis of the spool with the belt, make several turns with this spool, thus pulling the spring. At this moment, you need to hold the spring with your fingers, otherwise you will have to start all over again :) Fix the cassette on the frame (there is a special ledge for this) and, without releasing the spring, quickly and carefully cover it all with a casing (which is “do not remove”).
Now about the problem with the belt itself: for good move The spring is lubricated with oil and apparently over the years this oil has evaporated. Before installing the cassette, I generously poured oil on it to lubricate the bicycle chain (the only thing that was at hand at that moment), and this procedure returned the belt twisting mechanism to work.
