New mitsubishi crossover. Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross: a review of the new crossover from the Japanese

30.10.2019

Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross first appeared before the general public at an online presentation in February 2017. The model received the name of the legendary sports coupe and is an absolute novelty. It borrowed the platform and signature "Dynamic Shield" design from the Outlander crossover. Stylish elongated headlights with lensed optics and elegant sections of LED daytime running lights catch the eye. The radiator grille flaunts the manufacturer's logo and consists of two horizontally oriented chrome fins. Under it, on the front bumper, there is a large trapezoidal air intake, on the sides of which, in special recesses, there are huge shaped fog lights. In general, the car received a stylish and dynamic design in the corporate style, perfectly emphasizing the technical content and character of the novelty.

Dimensions of Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross

Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is a five-seater crossover. Its overall dimensions are: length 4405 mm, width 1805 mm, height 1685 mm, and the wheelbase is 2670 mm. Ground clearance Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is 183 millimeters. Such ground clearance is characteristic of urban SUVs. They hold the road well, can storm curbs while parking, and maintain an acceptable ride on a bumpy paved road.

The trunk of the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross has an average volume for this class. With the backs of the second row of seats raised, up to 341 liters of free space remain behind. Thanks to this spaciousness, the car is perfect for everyday tasks of a city dweller, however, if the owner decides to take on board a larger cargo, you will have to sacrifice seats. It is worth noting that the backs of the rear sofa are folded in a ratio of 60:40 and form a flat floor, which greatly facilitates loading and unloading.

Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is equipped with two engines, a CVT, manual and automatic transmissions, as well as front or all-wheel drive. Thanks to a wide range of units presented, the car becomes quite versatile and is able to satisfy most of the needs of a potential buyer.

  • The basic versions of the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross are equipped with an in-line turbocharged petrol four with a volume of 1499 cubic centimeters. Despite the modest displacement, a modern boost system allowed engineers to squeeze out 163 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 250 Nm of torque in the range from 1800 to 4500 rpm of the crankshaft. The all-wheel drive version with a CVT accelerates to hundreds in 9.8 seconds, and the maximum speed, in turn, will be 200 kilometers per hour. Despite the good power and good dynamics, the fuel consumption of the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, in this configuration, will be 7 liters of gasoline per hundred kilometers in the combined driving cycle.
  • Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross can also be equipped with a 2268 cubic centimeter in-line turbodiesel four. Thanks to a good displacement and turbocharger, it develops 150 horsepower at 3750 rpm and 400 Nm of torque in the range from 2000 to 2250 rpm of the crankshaft. The power unit is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and is installed exclusively on all-wheel drive versions.

Outcome

Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross has nothing to do with its "predecessor". It has a stylish and dynamic design, echoing older models. Such a car is the best way to emphasize the character and personality of its owner. Salon is a realm of high-quality finishing materials, well-adjusted ergonomics, practicality and comfort. Even a road at rush hour or a country trip will not be able to cause unnecessary inconvenience. The manufacturer is well aware that, first of all, the car should give driving pleasure. That is why the crossover is equipped with an excellent line of units, which are an alloy of innovative technologies and unsurpassed Japanese quality. Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is a bright and dynamic car for motorists who prefer an active lifestyle.

Test Drive

The new model of the Japanese brand is the final product created without the participation of new partners in the Renault-Nissan alliance. Perhaps that is why the newcomer has become a kind of showcase of achievements.

A new crossover called the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross has appeared in the line of models of the Japanese manufacturer Mitsubishi. The car was presented to the public at the Geneva Motor Show in the spring of 2017. Start of sales of Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross 2018-2019 in Russia - April 2018. The price of the crossover will start from 1,399,000 rubles (details about the Russian trim levels of the novelty are at the end of the article). It is reported that the novelty will be sold in Europe, Russia, Australia, Japan, as well as in southeast Africa and North America.

The new Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross 2018 model year is equipped with an all-wheel drive system (front-wheel drive versions are also available in Russia). In the model range of the brand, it occupies an intermediate position between the Outlander and ASX crossovers. The company's management has high hopes for this car, planning to increase the interest of buyers in their products.

Appearance and overall dimensions of the body

The Mitsubishi Cross is a brand new coupe crossover based on the Outlander chassis. Both cars received an identical distance between the axles of 2670 mm. True, the body of the Eclipse Cross was slightly shortened, and its appearance was made more sporty. Compact kupeobrazny crossovers are very popular today, so the novelty will be able to find its buyer.

Dimensions Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross 2018:

  • length - 4 405 mm;
  • width - 1,805 mm;
  • height - 1 685 mm;
  • distance between axles - 2 670 mm;
  • front and rear track - 1,545 mm.

Ground clearance (ground clearance) Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is 215 millimeters.

Outwardly, the new 2018 Mitsubishi Cross got a lot in common with other new cars of the company (the characteristic shape of the radiator grille, narrow front optics, massive bumper). But at the same time, there are original elements in it. It must be understood that earlier, under the name Mitsubishi Eclipse, the Japanese produced a sports coupe. Therefore, in the new crossover it was simply impossible to do without the use of details that give its exterior a dynamic touch. The designers did an excellent job with the task, making the appearance of the car very attractive. The aggressive design of the front of the body with LED running lights and large fog lights looks very interesting and stylish.

The body profile also deserves your attention - a sharp front end, a "broken" front pillar, powerful wheel arches and 18-inch wheels. We also note a small area of side glazing, a high window sill line and a compact rear end with a “littered” rack.

"Korma" also received a lot of interesting details - a small bumper, a compact fifth door with an impressive glass size, a spoiler and a beautiful strip of LEDs connecting the position lights.

Salon and modern technologies

Salon Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross 2018 model year was developed from scratch. In terms of relevance, it is head and shoulders above the interior of the "third" Pajero Sport and Outlander. I would like to mention a convenient and beautiful multifunctional steering wheel, a stylish instrument panel with a color display of the “on-board vehicle”, a solid design of the front panel and a powerful center console.

On the front panel above the console there is a touch-screen display of the multimedia information system, the diagonal of which is 9″. It provides access to Google Maps, the Google Play app store, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support. Interestingly, to control the functionality of the entertainment system, you can use both this screen and a convenient touch panel, which is located on the central tunnel of the Mitsubishi Cross. This solution is now increasingly used by various automakers. By the way, a very handy feature!

All other functions will no longer be able to surprise the modern motorist - climate control with a division into two zones, heated front seats, an electronic handbrake, a parking assistant, engine start using a button, a projection display with the most relevant information.

We also note a large supply of free legroom for the driver and all passengers of the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross crossover. The back of the rear seats can be folded in a ratio of 60/40. By the way, the chairs themselves can move in a horizontal plane. At the same time, the backrest tilt can be changed taking into account current needs.

Crossover trunk volume - 310 liters. Folding the rear backrest increases the usable volume to 1058 liters.

Engine, characteristics and gearbox

The technical characteristics of the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross (Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross) 2017-2018 suggest the use of the Mitsubishi GF platform branded “trolley”. And this means that an independent suspension with MacPherson struts is installed in the front of the crossover, and a multi-link architecture is used in the rear. It is worth mentioning the use of a spacer between the front pillars, which is fixed to the car body.

Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross in Russia is available with a non-alternative 4-cylinder gasoline engine. This is a 1.5-liter turbocharged unit with direct injection with a capacity of 150 "horses" (250 Nm).

We Mitsubishi Cross 2018 will be available in three versions:

  • front-wheel drive and six-speed manual transmission;
  • front-wheel drive and 8-speed CVT;
  • four-wheel drive (4WD) and CVT.

The basic version of the crossover with a manual transmission accelerates from standstill to the first 100 km / h in 10.3 seconds, the front-wheel drive version with a CVT does this exercise in 11.1 seconds, and the all-wheel drive version takes 11.4 seconds. The maximum speed of a crossover with a manual transmission is 200 km/h, the version with a CVT can accelerate to 195 km/h. The fuel tank capacity of the mono-drive versions of the model is 63 liters, and the all-wheel drive versions are equipped with a 60-liter tank.

Note that the S-AWC all-wheel drive system has a traction vectoring function implemented by braking individual wheels.

Mitsubishi Cross has a modern electric power steering. Disc brakes are used on all wheels of the crossover, with ventilated discs in front. The driver is assisted by ABS, EBD and other electronic assistants.

The Geneva Motor Show 2017 will be a turning point in the development of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC). It will host the world premiere of the new Eclipse Cross, a compact SUV coupe. This model will be an example of a new generation of Mitsubishi Motors cars and will further strengthen its positioning in the European market as a manufacturer of predominantly SUV cars.

Thanks to the introduction of the Eclipse Cross, the number of fans and owners of Mitsubishi SUVs currently acquiring current and new generation ASX and Outlander models will increase significantly.

The new direction of brand development is focused on five key aspects:

Japanese craftsmanship/quality

Dynamic characteristics

Sophisticated equipment

Innovative Options

The new SUV coupe, with a striking appearance and outstanding dynamics, presents the world with a new design concept from MMC and will bring many innovative solutions to this segment.

The Eclipse Cross will go on sale in European dealerships in the last quarter of 2017 (depending on the country, the release is planned for the end of 2017/beginning of 2018). After that, sales of this car will begin in Japan, North America, Australia and other regions.

First stage

Based on its tradition, MMC began to create a new product concept, which applied 80 years of experience in the design of four-wheel drive (starting with the PX33 all-wheel drive model of 1936), almost 40 years of SUV production (since the first generation Pajero in 1982) and almost 30 years of experience in the development of a four-wheel drive control system (since the 1987 Galant VR4 Dynamic Four).

Launched by the 2017 Eclipse Cross, the new product concept will result in a range of SUV vehicles.

In addition, the Eclipse Cross model will have to perform two critical tasks:

Represent the beginning of a new, more ambitious brand positioning, especially in European markets.

Initiate the implementation of the MMC strategy aimed at increasing the share of the SUV segment in the company's total sales.

Thus, the new Eclipse Cross model will take its place in the SUV lineup next to the ASX and Outlander models, but will embody a different, new product concept for the Mitsubishi brand. With its expressive design, traditional Japanese quality, superb driving dynamics, thoughtful equipment and innovative solutions, Mitsubishi Motors plans to attract new customers with this coupé model...

The new concept expressed in the Eclipse Cross model is also reflected in its name, which is not an abbreviation, but a combination of two words symbolic for the brand:

ECLIPSE: The name of a popular Mitsubishi sports car produced in the USA from 1989 to 2012.

CROSS: an invitation to go beyond the usual routes, for which, in fact, SUVs are conceived.

Volumetric dynamics

We are now witnessing the end of an era that can be described as “multifunctionality and versatility in one product”, as evidenced by the desire of buyers to purchase goods (cars, clothes, etc.) that best match the individuality of a particular buyer. Based on this, MMC strives to give its technically advanced models more emotionality, which has found its expression in design.

Over the past three years, the company has been undergoing a complete reorganization of the international design bureau, formulating a long-term design strategy, and searching for ways to create a bright, expressive and characteristic appearance of cars (the DYNAMIC SHIELD concept). The results of this work can be seen in the concept cars on display: the 2015 XR PHEV II Concept, the 2015 eX-Concept and the 2016 GT-PHEV Concept.

The new Eclipse Cross is the epitome of these initiatives, representing the transition from the design of the XR PHEV II Concept to a production vehicle design that takes into account the specifics of the production process and regulatory requirements.

Another evolution of the expressive DYNAMIC SHIELD design concept, lowering fog lights and turn indicators in deep recesses, but higher placement of LED headlights and daytime running lights

Taken from the concept car, the wedge-shaped waistline enhances the sense of swiftness of the coupe-like bodywork, further enhanced by the heavily raked C-pillar, long wheelbase and short overhangs, and voluminous front and rear fenders

Mitsubishi concept features are clearly visible on this model, such as the characteristic upper line that wraps around the rear of the body under the split rear window.

The full-width tailgate lighting strip includes LED brake lights as well as an LED overhead brake light and is designed to improve visibility of the vehicle to other road users. This solution gives a more impressive appearance to the rear of the car.

The rear window wiper blade is located under the lip of the roof spoiler, where it does not impair visibility or detract from the overall style of the car.

Modern, thoughtful and bold design...

Japanese craftsmanship/quality

Confirming the brand's new positioning, the MMC design division used a new approach to finishes and materials to create models of the future.

Starting with Eclipse Cross, the choice of materials, textures, colors, finishes, etc. will become more attentive and meticulous, in full accordance with the principles of Japanese craftsmanship / quality and the age-old slogan “Maison Japonaise de Qualité” (traditional Japanese quality).

In the exterior of the car, the new approach is reflected in the paintwork in rich red, individually developed for the Eclipse Cross model: a translucent red paint is applied in several layers, after which it is covered with a clear varnish.

Inside the car, the instrument panel and door trim are made with a soft textured material that looks like leather. The look and feel of the material used in the interior contrasts with the solid silver trims also used in the interior of the car. The seats are upholstered in natural leather (depending on markets and versions) and feature orange contrast stitching.

A significant role in the high quality of the interior is also played by decorative inserts with carbon and black lacquered coating, located on the instrument panel, steering wheel, center console and door trim. The lower part of the instrument panel, the sides of the center console, the front armrests, made in the form of a hockey stick, air vents, etc. elements are trimmed with silver shiny edging.

Starting with the Eclipse Cross model, the company will apply technologically new solutions for such traditional car controls as: gear lever, deflectors, etc., as well as for such solutions as: joystick, Touchpad, etc. In addition, the models will implement a new seating approach.

Horizontal axis

Another new distinguishing feature of the Eclipse Cross model will be the introduction of a special instrument panel architecture, the design of which is dominated by a horizontal axis. It divides the instrument panel into upper (information) and lower (control) parts.

This arrangement not only visually expands the cabin, but also helps to assess the position of the car relative to the horizon while driving. Excellent visibility is ensured by a low instrument panel, a change in the height of the hood, the shape and tilt of the windshield, as well as due to the driver's landing.

Hi-tech

To enhance the comfort of today's internet-enabled mobile devices, the Eclipse Cross will be the first MMC vehicle to be equipped with a range of advanced technologies (offer will vary by market and modifications).

  1. First of all, it should be noted the wide center console, which divides the front of the cabin in half and on which is located Joystick Touchpad.
This device, pioneered by Mitsubishi Motors, is a new interface with an intuitive control algorithm. For example, adjust the volume of the audio system by moving two fingers up or down on the screen. The Touchpad can control the audio system or a connected iPod, as well as Apple CarPlay.
  2. At the top of the dashboard of the Eclipse Cross model is a system smartphoneLinkdisplayAudio(SDA). To control the system, a 7-inch touch screen is provided, which displays all the necessary information right in the driver's field of vision.

Smartphone Link Display Audio in the Eclipse Cross supports Apple CarPlay*1 for a more versatile and safer use of iPhone*1 in the car.

The driver can use Siri *1 or SDA (Mitsubishi Connect) to find the best route, receive and make phone calls, write and read text messages, listen to music without being distracted from the traffic situation. The SDA (Mitsubishi Connect) system also supports the Android Auto TM*2 platform, through which applications such as Google Maps TM , *2 Google Play TM*2 , etc. can be voice controlled.

The touchpad, located on the center console, allows the driver to easily and conveniently set up the SDA (Mitsubishi Connect) system without changing their driving position.

1… Apple CarPlay, iPhone, and Siri are trademarks of Apple Inc., registered in the US and other countries.

2…Android Auto and Google Maps are (registered) trademarks of Google Inc.

  1. The third of the advanced technological solutions in the Eclipse Cross model is head-up display (HUD), displaying the following information in the driver's field of vision:

Speed

Operation of the adaptive cruise control (ACC)

Front Collision Mitigation (FCM) Operation

Adjustable Speed Limiter (ASL) Data

Lane Departure Warning (LDW) data

Cruise control data

Gear shift indicator

Seat belt indicator

Door open indicator

Navigation system arrows indicating direction of turn

The head-up display provides a minimum distance between its central part and the driver's field of view, which limits the movement of the driver's gaze, speeds up reading information and makes driving safer.

The head-up display extends from the top of the instrument panel visor after the ignition is turned on or by pressing a special button. The display position can be adjusted according to the driver's preference, and the brightness can be adjusted according to the ambient light level.

Comfortable space

Despite its compact size and stylish proportions, the Eclipse Cross provides ample space for driver and passengers.

In the interior of the car, the length of the wheelbase of which is 2670 mm, width - 1805 mm, and length - 4405 mm, a special ergonomics of the interior space is realized with a low instrument panel and adjustable rear row of seats.

The rear seat is divided in a ratio of 60:40 and can be adjusted in the longitudinal direction and in the angle of the backrest. This decision allowed to increase the volume of the luggage compartment of the Eclipse Cross model without compromising the characteristic appearance of an SUV coupé. The rear seat provides passengers with plenty of legroom (200 mm) and allows them to take the most comfortable position. The angle of inclination of a back is regulated within 16-32 degrees (8 fixed positions).

A significant role in providing an impressive interior space is played by the thoughtful shape of the roof, leaving a lot of space above the heads of passengers, including the rear row of seats, even with the optional panoramic sunroof.

Narrow yet very strong sills are completely hidden under the lower door panels. They make boarding and disembarking easier, allowing passengers to keep their clothes clean in adverse weather conditions.

Comfort in the cabin Eclipse is also provided by a high level of sound insulation.

Engine noise is minimized by a large engine cover and clever use of sound absorbing material and large soundproof panels.

Noise transmission from the roadway has been minimized thanks to the introduction of damping crossbars into the rear suspension design. In addition, significant sound insulation in the body panels as well as soundproof windows play an important role in reducing noise levels. These solutions prevent the transmission of various types of noise: from isolating sources of noise and vibration to isolating the paths of their penetration into the cabin.

dynamic car

If the form corresponds to the content, then for the sake of an attractive appearance, in no case should one forget about the characteristics. When developing the Eclipse Cross, MMC sought to combine amazing dynamic performance with a new design that matches the coupe body.

- Body of high rigidity the fundamental starting point for any vehicle designed to deliver the best driving experience. Eclipse Cross has a very rigid body.

Among the many design features, it is worth mentioning the 3-point brace between the strut cups, which will be standard on all models, as well as additional reinforcing elements in the upper part of the engine compartment, strut niches, etc. The use of such structural elements in the body provides a clearer reverse steering linkage and directional stability when driving in a straight line at high speeds.

The use of technology for gluing body panels was widely used in doorways and tailgate, wheel arches of the rear axle. As a result, the designers managed to significantly increase the torsional rigidity of the body, provide more precise steering feedback and ride comfort by reducing vibration.

- Fine tuned suspension: The front and rear shock absorbers of the Eclipse Cross are designed with fast response check valves to improve vibration damping performance and springs to ensure stable sprung masses. The use of thinner front strut spring shims and their curved shape provide a more linear compression load. This improves directional stability when driving in a straight line and gives sharper steering feedback.

The rear suspension design includes upper and lower arm bushings and toe-adjustment arms. Due to the low degree of rigidity, there is a more complete absorption of the shock load from the unevenness of the roadway and unwanted vibration is significantly reduced when driving in a straight line. It should also be noted that the rear suspension is more rigid in the transverse direction, providing more precise and direct steering feedback, as well as better directional stability of the car.

- Integrated Vehicle Dynamics Control (S-AWC): In short, Mitsubishi Motors' S-AWC is a comprehensive technology that can be adapted using similar principles to vehicles with different technical equipment. Regardless of the model, it controls traction and braking forces, in particular by distributing torque between the left and right wheels.

At the moment of start, the all-wheel drive system transfers the optimal torque to the rear wheels, depending on the intensity of pressing the accelerator pedal, vehicle speed and driving conditions.

Then, for the Eclipse Cross model, the S-AWC system includes an electronic torque control (AYC) system that operates by activating the appropriate braking forces. Thus, the S-AWC system analyzes the driver's commands and the vehicle's driving behavior with exceptional accuracy, evaluating the steering angle, turning moment, torque, traction and wheel speeds. So, in accordance with the algorithm of work on feedback on the turning moment, information about this parameter is transmitted to certain components of the system, which helps the car to confidently follow the turn of the steering wheel. S-AWC delivers more precise line following in corners, improved directional stability when driving in a straight line or when changing lanes, and improved handling on low-traction surfaces.

What's more, the S-AWC system on the Eclipse Cross has three driving modes, selectable by a switch on the center console.

Under normal conditions, the all-wheel drive system operates in automatic mode (AUTO), adjusting the distribution of torque to achieve maximum fuel efficiency. When driving on low-traction surfaces, it automatically redistributes more torque to the rear wheels to improve directional stability.

The SNOW mode is designed for snowy and slippery roads.

The GRAVEL mode allows you to realize the full potential of all-wheel drive in difficult road conditions or if the previous modes were powerless in deep mud or snow.

Depending on markets and modifications, the Eclipse Cross may also be available in a 2-wheel drive (front-wheel drive) version.

- New 1.5 liter petrol engine with turbocharger and direct fuel injection Mitsubishi Motors specialists have developed a new 4-cylinder compact gasoline engine that provides high dynamic performance while maintaining high environmental performance.

This 1.5-liter power unit develops more torque at low and medium speeds, and has a flatter torque curve than currently produced 2.0 and 2.4-liter gasoline engines. It responds faster to the driver pressing the accelerator pedal, which is made possible by the integration of the cylinder head with the exhaust manifold, variable valve timing inlet and exhaust valves (MIVEC) and a compact turbocharger with an electronically controlled bypass valve.

But that's not all. High precision control of fuel injection into the engine cylinders and intake ports, depending on driving conditions, guarantees excellent fuel efficiency and low toxicity of exhaust gases (exact figures will be announced later, EU certification is currently in progress).

- Updated 2.2 liter diesel engine. For the new Eclipse Cross, MMC engineers have redesigned the 4N14 series engine, significantly reducing the friction of its moving parts and improving the response of the fuel supply system.

This made it possible to reduce fuel consumption, exhaust emissions and noise levels, as well as to achieve an increase in power. The engine owes a more uniform and intense acceleration throughout the entire speed range to lightweight pistons, connecting rods and a crankshaft.

- CVT with 8-speed sport mode. In combination with the 1.5-liter petrol engine, a new continuously variable transmission (CVT) is installed, equipped with a sport mode with manual control. Eight fixed gear ratios in sport mode, separated by small intervals, cover a wide range of gear ratios, and ensure that the full potential of the engine is realized.

The control system of the continuously variable transmission uses a smooth upshift algorithm, which eliminates the feeling of engine advance of the transmission (the engine speed is ahead of the CVT ratio changes). Thanks to this algorithm, intensive overclocking is provided. At the same time, the driver experiences short-term changes in traction, reminiscent of driving in a car with a traditional automatic transmission.

- 8-speed automatic transmission. In keeping with market trends, the 2.2-litre diesel engine is offered in combination with a new 8-speed gearbox. A wide range of gear ratios, separated by small intervals, guarantees excellent dynamics, increased fuel efficiency and comfort.

In addition, the oil pump, equipped with solenoid valves, provides a smooth start of the engine in the automatic engine shutdown mode when idling, helping to reduce fuel consumption.

Depending on markets and modifications, the Eclipse Cross with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine can also be equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission.

Security systems

The Eclipse Cross is market compliant and equipped with the latest security systems (availability varies by market and version). The overall safety concept is based on the use of a variety of sensors that monitor the area around the car, predict the development of the situation, assess the likelihood of collisions and help the driver to prevent them.

- Forward Collision Mitigation System(FCM). The design of this system includes a camera and laser radar (and radio frequency radar, if equipped with adaptive cruise control), which recognize cars and pedestrians along the route. When it detects a high probability of a collision, it sounds an audible signal and helps to minimize the consequences of a possible collision or - depending on the situation - completely prevent an accident by applying the brake system.

- Lane crossing indication informs the driver about the danger of the car leaving the occupied lane.

Blind Spot Monitor with Lane Change Assist and Rear Crossing Alert informs the driver when other vehicles are approaching from behind and from the side, and assists when changing lanes and backing out of a parking lot.

- Adaptive cruise control Based on data from the RF radar, it maintains a set distance from the vehicle in front, slowing down the Eclipse Cross. To subsequently increase speed when the vehicle in front leaves the lane or accelerates, you can press the accelerator pedal or operate the system buttons (within the set speed limits).

- Unintentional acceleration prevention system based on ultrasonic sensors. This intelligent system controls engine power output to prevent sudden acceleration from a standstill if there is a vehicle or other obstacle ahead. This can happen when the driver mistakenly presses the accelerator pedal hard instead of the brake pedal.

- System automatic high beam control recognizes the head and fog lights of oncoming vehicles, street lights and the intensity of ambient light, on the basis of which it automatically switches the dipped and main beam headlights.

- Surround View System with Top View Mode. Several cameras are installed along the perimeter of the car, which display 5 views of the car's image in space: front, rear, left, right, and also top. In combination with guide lines that are superimposed on the image and change depending on the rotation of the steering wheel, parking in tight spaces is greatly facilitated. This intelligent electronic parking assistance system is complemented by front and rear parking sensors.

- Electric parking brake with automatic brake pressure maintenance. If this function is activated, the vehicle will remain stationary when the brake pedal is released. It turns off as soon as the driver presses the accelerator pedal.

Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross 2108-2019 is a youthful urban crossover with a striking design, created on the GF platform, also used in. The model was not shown to the public at exhibitions, the Japanese manufacturer decided to hold an online presentation.

Fans of the brand have completely different associations with Eclipse, for a long time it was produced under this name. Now the prefix "Cross" appeared and we got a calm city car.

Design

Appearance is what attracts buyers, it is unique and sets you apart from the rest. The model is made in an X-shape, especially in the front. This shape is created by two chrome inserts extending from under the headlight and going down.

The optics of Eclipse Cross are disconnected, on top for the most part daytime running lights on a diode basis, and below everything else.

The side of the crossover is more interesting, here is the drop-down roof, which in people's heads adds the prefix "Coupe" here. With such cars in the body, a crossover is most often associated with or, but in this case it is a mini-model. The rigid stamping under the door handles and chrome inserts below and above also attract the eye from the side.

Behind, there are also interesting details, immediately the eye falls on the partition on the glass. The bulkhead is the connection of the rear lights, which is combined into a brake light repeater. The huge bumper of the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross 2108-2019 is equipped with a black insert with reflectors, which is too low. You should forget about serious off-road, because the car, in principle, is not intended for this.

Visually, we see that the model has inherited a lot from its older brother, by the way, they seem to behave on the road. It's all about a common platform.

Finally a nice salon

We all remember that Mitsubishi salons were always boring, at least they were a couple of years behind the general market. That is, only now a projection has appeared on the car of a Japanese company. How long has this technology been on the market?

Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross did their best on the visual part. Look at the center console with glossy inserts, a remote 7-inch multimedia system display with Apple CarPlay support and touchpad control on the tunnels. The climate control unit at the bottom of the console is a small monitor and buttons for control.

On the tunnel is a gearbox selector, manual or CVT. Nearby are the buttons for heated seats Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, all-wheel drive if available, then we see a touchpad and an electronic handbrake button with a chrome element.

The front row of seats is mechanically adjustable, sheathed in good trim levels with leather and, in principle, they are quite comfortable. The back row is a regular sofa with optional heating. There is not much space in the back, plus there is an adjustment in length, you can move closer to the front row of the Eclipse Cross 2108-2019 to increase the trunk.

The driver's seat is represented by a 3-spoke steering wheel with a large number of buttons. The column is distinguished by glossy plastic, from which half of the steering wheel is made, there is also heating. The instrument panel is exactly the same as on the Outlander. Behind the dash, on a stylish dashboard, there is a flip-down projection display.

The trunk of the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is of course very small and the body shape is to blame. The volume is only 341 liters, and the area will fit a maximum of two suitcases. On the right, by the way, a subwoofer is optionally installed. By pushing the seats forward, a maximum of 448 liters can be achieved, and by folding the back row you get 1058 liters.

Engine and gearbox

In Russia, only a gasoline engine is installed, but there is also a diesel engine in the world lineup.

  1. The 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol unit puts out 150 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 250 H*m of torque at 2000 rpm. The 16-valve unit consumes 8.8 liters in the city according to the passport, and the manufacturer claims that it can be fed with 92nd gasoline. Do not do this, fill in AI-95.
  2. Diesel engine Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross with a 2.3-liter capacity produces 150 forces at 3750 rpm. The torque is 400 H*m at 2000 rpm. The consumption and dynamic properties of the crossover with this motor are unknown.

As a pair, you can choose a 6-speed manual gearbox, or a CVT8 JATCO CVT8 with 8-speed imitation.

Variator - your tachometer indicators do not change dramatically, but the speeds are switched.

The diesel is equipped only with an 8-speed hydromechanical automatic.

There is absolutely no information about the reliability of these units.

Suspension, drive and brakes

The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross 2108-2019 crossover is built on a common platform with the Outlander - the Mitsubishi GF platform, respectively, their suspension is exactly the same. A classic MacPherson strut with anti-roll bars is installed on the front axle, and a multi-link architecture at the rear also with anti-roll bars.

The drive of the car in the basic configuration is front. In expensive trim levels, an all-wheel drive Super All-Wheel Control transmission with a multi-plate clutch is installed, which will transfer up to 50% of torque to the Eclipse Cross rear axle if necessary. For light off-road, there is an imitation of wheel locks.

In handling, the crossover is not bad, as the inner wheel slows down when cornering. This feature will show itself perfectly on a serpentine. Stopping is carried out by disc brakes with electronic assistants and ventilation on the front axle.

Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross price

2 configurations are offered, the price is small, against the background of competitors, it is about the same. Basic equipment Instyle is sold for 1,910,000 rubles, its equipment is as follows:

The most expensive equipment Ultimate for 2,256,000 rubles much more interesting equipment:

The new small crossover Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross 2108-2019 is essentially a good car for relatively little money. He is competitively capable and, most importantly, resembles an older brother in terms of behavior.

Video

In 2011, Mitsubishi discontinued the production of its four-seat Eclipse sports coupe, which was quite popular.

And on the eve of the Geneva Motor Show, the company released pre-premiere photos of its new Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross crossover, designed to continue the old sports coupe traditions, but in a different guise.

Therefore, it is not surprising that aggressive the novelty made a splash in Geneva, especially in light of the fact that the company's press service has already announced the presentation of the updated L200 and the expansion of the SUV range.

Production began in 2017, and sales of Eclipse Cross in the showrooms of official dealers started in 2018. The car is designed to complement the already produced Outlander and ASX models and take an intermediate place between them, and buyers in the age segment from 20 to 40 years are considered as the main target audience .

Considering that Nissan, which owns 34% of the shares, plays the main role in Mitsubishi's marketing policy, it was believed that Nissan platform CMF-CD.

But Mitsubishi took a different path and used the base of the Outlander SUV, but shortened the rear part of the body, while leaving the wheelbase unchanged - its dimensions are 2670 mm. It is naturally shorter in length - 4.405 m. The width of the hull is 1.805 m, and the height is 1.685 m.

The design of the car was designed from scratch, but if you wish, you can trace the kinship with the coupe, whose name it received.

The extravagant front end with a daring and defiant grille is emphasized by an X-shaped bumper with massive fog lamps and narrowed predatory headlights. Wheel arches are in harmony with the stampings on the sidewalls of the body, passing into the stern.

By the way, she the most original part of the crossover. The rear roof pillar with upper wing is complemented by a massive spoiler that combines LED lights into one chain. In the daytime, the effect is small, but at night the burning strip divides the stern into two parts, making it visually wider and more spectacular. The design uses straight and clear lines with a minimum of smooth contours and roundings.

18 inch wheels look like dissonance in powerful arches- they are too small, but the ground clearance is quite sufficient for a car of this class - 215 mm, which is enough even for a small off-road.

Salon

Looking inside the Eclipse Cross, you are surprised quite rich equipment for a car of the middle price segment. And it's not about the stylish range in silver-black colors, but about the number of technical innovations that the crossover was equipped with.

The first thing that catches your eye - wide center console with a 9-inch Smartphone Link Display Audio System display and support for iOS and Android applications. The multimedia system is controlled using a central sensor or a special touchscreen - it is located near the gearbox selector.

In the top versions, it is possible to equip with a projection display. Other than that, there's dual-zone climate control, an electric parking brake, fully adjustable front and rear seats, parking assistance and more.

It is clear that other new products like the Range Rover Velar have something to boast about - the Briton, who also belongs to the crossover-coupe segment, has an order of magnitude better equipment, but the price category is much different.

As for interior decoration, here there is a double feeling. On the one hand, modern electronics need decent equipment, and on the copy presented in Geneva, the seats and inserts on the maps and steering wheel were made of leather. On the other hand, the main material is still plastic, completely similar to that used in the Mitsubishi Outlander - hard and rough. Complaints are also caused by glossy panels with which some elements get off - they are too easily soiled and easily scratched.

Despite the reduced dimensions, there is no less space in the cabin- even tall passengers can comfortably accommodate in the rear seats.

But something still had to be sacrificed, so the size of the luggage compartment was significantly reduced. The volume itself has become smaller, and due to the design of the rear, the loading height has increased. However, Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is positioned as a crossover coupe, not a family car, so in this class the size of the luggage compartment does not play a significant role.

Specifications

Eclipse Cross equipped with two motor options. One of them is a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline unit, the second is a 2.2-liter turbodiesel. The petrol version is available with a 6-speed manual transmission or CVT, while the turbo diesel is offered with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

In the base, the crossover is equipped only with front-wheel drive, but in top trim levels, an all-wheel drive system with a Super All-Wheel Control plug-in rear axle with an electronically controlled clutch is available. This system provides optimal distribution of torque between the axles and allows you to selectively brake the wheels for better handling.

According to the press service of Mitsubishi, the vehicle is more agile than its ASX and Outlander relatives. First of all, a rigid body with a three-point front strut strut ensures precise and confident handling even in tight corners, while fully independent suspension (McPherson strut front and multi-link rear) reduces road shock and improves handling.
