The best cross-country SUVs and crossovers. Rating of the best SUVs for Russia, foreign and domestic models

The best cross-country SUVs and crossovers. Rating of the best SUVs for Russia, foreign and domestic models

19.06.2019

Crossovers are one of the most popular vehicle classes. Even the most eminent car manufacturers in the world - Lamborghini, Bentley, Maserati and even Maybach took up the creation of SUVs.

But what are the best SUVs in the world today? Probably, there can be no definite answer here. Everyone has their own criteria. I decided to name my “ten” best, guided by the simplest criterion - sales volumes.

In Ukraine, Mazda offers the CX-5 to choose from with one of the following engines:

  • 2-liter gasoline power of 150 hp;
  • 2.5-liter gasoline power of 194 hp;
  • 2.2-liter diesel engine with 175 hp

The two-liter engine works exclusively in tandem with a 6-speed manual. The other two are offered only with a 6-speed automatic.

Baojun 510 is a compact Chinese crossover that debuted in early 2017. The car is produced for joint venture, one of the co-owners of which is the American concern General Motors.

The SUV is equipped with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine. His return is 111 Horse power and 147 Nm of torque. Traction is transmitted to the front wheels through a 6-speed "mechanics".

In China, Baojun 510 prices start at $8,000.

The “Chinese” Haval H6, which is known in Ukraine under the Great Wall brand, also managed to get into the top five.

The very fact of the presence of a Chinese car in the TOP-10 best-selling crossovers in the world is already impressive.

Another crossover from Nissan - - got into the TOP-10.

In Ukraine Nissan Qashqai can be purchased with both petrol and diesel engine. In car dealerships, you will be offered three units to choose from:

  • 1.2-liter gasoline with 115 horsepower;
  • 2.0-liter gasoline with 144 horsepower;
  • 1.6-liter diesel engine with 130 horsepower.

Gasoline engines can be paired with both mechanics and a variator. Diesel works in a duet exclusively with a variator.

Hyundai Tucson has a wide choice of motors in Ukraine:

  • 1.6-liter gasoline with 177 hp;
  • 2.0-liter gasoline with 155 hp;
  • 1.7 liter diesel power 115 hp;
  • 2.0-liter diesel with 185 hp

"Tucson" can be bought with both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.

In Ukraine Honda crossovers not very popular. Like the Japanese brand in general. As evidenced by the sales statistics for 2016.

But on the world market - one of the leaders in its class.

Whether you're towing your boat to the lake, or taking the kids to soccer practice, the right SUV will get the job done. Latest Models offer everything from entertainment systems for rear seat passengers, to the latest electronic safety features. To make the right choice, think about what you will use most often and, starting from this, proceed further. Traditional SUVs have a penchant for attributes like towing power and good ground clearance for tackling bad roads, while more modern crossovers (light-weight SUVs) are designed to be more smooth ride and maximum space inside. In this review, we have made a selection of both types of these vehicles, so no matter what you are looking for, you will find it here.

Subcompact class

#1 Honda HR-V

The 2017 Honda XP-B is one of the top contenders for the best in class. What does she have for this? For those who have just moved from a car, there is plenty of trunk space, despite the car's size, thanks to the "Magic Seats" that fold down. There's also plenty of room for four tall passengers, something you won't find in this class. We wished for a simpler technical interface, but overall the HR-V is a very comfortable passenger car with more space than the average subcompact sedan.

#2 Mazda CX-3

Mazda CX-3 2017 model year is one of the most attractive, pleasant to drive and sports cars in this class. It is smaller than other leading compacts, which means its space is very limited. But, if you are considering driving pleasure, then this the best choice. The CX-3 also features one of the best interiors in the class, with superb seats, high-quality materials and an easy-to-use infotainment system parodying those of more expensive cars type Audi and BMW.

#3 Subaru Crosstrek (Subaru XV)

Frame SUVs are usually the only ones suitable for cross-country, "go anywhere" cars, but some small crossovers like this 2017 Subaru Crosstrack are resisting the trend. In fact, this is an Impreza hatchback with an additional ground clearance, different tires and some styling improvements. The Crosstrek offers some level of off-roading without the downside of compromising fuel economy. And while the Subaru Crosstrek isn't the fastest car in its class, it still has adequate power for city use and modest fuel consumption.

Class Compact

#4 Honda CR-V

The Honda CR-B is one of the smoothest, most streamlined cars in its class, and perhaps one of the best on the market today. The CR-V has plenty of room, offers excellent fuel economy (especially with the optional 1.5-litre turbo), and is relatively fast. Honda offers it at a very competitive price, so you'll likely find it fits within your budget. The car may not be the most delightful or sporty in its segment, but when it comes to comfort, quality and price, this is by far the best representative.

#5 Mazda CX-5

Since the old Mazda CX-5 was our favorite, it came as no surprise that the new, improved, redesigned CX-5 was also our choice. With its interior and driving dynamics that mimic luxury cars, the Mazda CX-5 feels like it's worth a lot more than it actually is. Add to that the fact that it's still very fuel efficient, family friendly, crossover with big amount space and modern technology in the interior, and you get a class leader among compacts.

#6 Ford Escape

The 2017 Ford Escape is a strong all-rounder offering a wide range of options to meet the needs of different buyers. There are turbo engines, plenty of trunk space, and a much-improved technology interface with the latest infotainment software from Ford. Like its closest rival, the Mazda CX-5, the Getaway feels sporty to drive, more like a car than an SUV. Whether you choose an entry-level car or a loaded version with all the bells and whistles, the Ford Escape is worth considering.

#7 Subaru Forester

If you're looking for something basic to haul and would like to avoid a lot of unnecessary bling, then the 2017 Subaru Forester is great choice. It has a fuel-efficient 4-cylinder engine, standard (base) all-wheel drive and solid reliability figures. The Forester also has many great technology and safety options available, such as lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert (sideway monitoring when reversing).

Midsize class 2-row

#8 2017 Ford Edge

The Ford Edge offers buyers a little of everything with its comfortable ride, ample cabin space and optional performance-oriented engines. base motor attractive for its solid economy, and the optional engines produce impressive power. The latest tech UI updates have also given Edge all the chips you could possibly need in this mid-sized class.

#9 Kia Sorento

The 2017 Kia Sorento is a good example of why we love midsizes so much. It has many technological features and all the necessary space that may be needed for family travel. The Sorento is available with two or three rows of seats, so you can accommodate up to 7 passengers. A sleek, sleek design and comfortable seats add to the Sorento's appeal, and the car comes standard (in all trims) with an excellent warranty.

#10 Nissan Murano

This unique midsize crossover is distinguished by its eye-catching exterior design, high-tech interior and class-leading front seats. It also delivers solid performance, making it feel smaller than it actually is while driving. But don't worry, there's plenty of room in the back seat for adults or even the largest child seats, although the boot isn't as spacious as the Ford Edge.

Midsize class 3-row

#11 Honda Pilot

The 2017 Honda Pilot has made a lot of improvements since the debut of the first generation. Now it delivers one of the best combinations of performance, applicability and technology. The pilot is comfortable in road trips, soft on the beaten streets of the city and well made, both inside and out. For those drivers who want to get rid of the minivan, but still need three rows of seats, Pilot will offer intelligent spatial solutions, modern technologies and impressive fuel efficiency in the class. The Honda Pilot can even carry up to 2.2 tons of weight with the right equipment, making it a great alternative to bulky frame SUVs.

#12 Toyota Highlander

The 2017 Toyota Highlander was one of the best cars in this class for some time, and for many reasons. Not only does it offer an optional 3.5-liter V6 that's powerful and fuel-efficient, but a hybrid model is also available, which is a rarity in the class. The Highlander is capable of pulling up to 2.2 tons of cargo when properly equipped, and has an above-average cargo hold. The Toyota Highlander also has pleasantly heavy handling and near-luxury comfort levels in the interior.

#13 Mazda CX-9

One of the coolest looking and most modified cars in recent memory, the Mazda CX-9 has an unrivaled combination of size, style and class. She's big but agile. It's powerful yet fuel-efficient. It seems expensive, but the price is still not in the luxury stratosphere. And while 2,040 liters of trunk space isn't the most you'll find in the class, the CX-9's comfortable cargo area is respectable, and fuel economy (as well as actual performance) is impressive. It's a 3-row driver's crossover, so to speak, just what we love and expect from Mazda.

Full Size Class

#14 Ford Expedition

There has been a big shift in the world of SUVs over the past few years, and it has been far from big, frame-based, truck-based family tractors. Crossovers with soft and smooth suspension are more common today. Despite this shift, the Ford Expedition has evolved to create a strong three-row SUV with truck-like traction and a serious road presence. The 2017 Ford Expedition has some of the softest and smoothest suspension in the segment, and there's more than enough room for adults in the third row of seats. And while fuel economy isn't as impressive, the Expedition is able to squeeze decent fuel consumption figures out of its turbo V6 - 13mpg mixed style. Add to this a maximum thrust rating of over 4 tons, and you have an impressive family machine.

Class Off Road

#15 Toyota Land cruiser

Sometimes you may need an off-road vehicle with a very specific skill set, just taking your family to and from training will not be enough. This is where an off-road athlete like the Toyota Land Cruiser comes into play. Permanent four-wheel drive, road clearance that puts most pickup trucks to shame and Toyota's advanced KDSS (Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System) makes Kruzak into the highest degree off-road capable. Superb ride quality, a strong V8 and a simple, clean interior layout must be what makes this SUV more appealing to many than just the off-road crowd. Sure, you can own a Land Cruiser and never go off-road. Also you can own it and never drive on the road. This is the beauty of this car with smooth lines of the body.

#16 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Jeep has been making off-road vehicles for what seems like forever. And, of course, comfortable, family grand The Cherokee is unlikely to be his most off-road model, but he can get much further than most of his brethren - especially in the Trailhawk trim that debuted in 2017. More than just an SUV, the Grand Cherokee is quiet, almost luxurious inside, and extremely good at touring. There are also three available to choose from. power plants, which should help when it drags something or just makes more noise from your driving.

#17 Jeep Wrangler

There aren't many cars left on the planet that are as focused as the 2017 Jeep Wrangler. The Wrangler has two main objectives that it has served for decades: get as far off-road as possible and have a convertible roof. Everything else is secondary. This is not a comfortable, luxurious, well-finished family car. It's just an SUV that wants to go where no one else can. Overall finesse obviously suffers as a result, but that's part of what gives the Wrangler its charm. He doesn't care about backseat DVD players or massage seats. He'd rather pop the roof off and take a ride through the woods, which is probably what you want if you're eyeing a Wrangler. And that's why he's still our favorite.

#18 Toyota 4Runner

With off-road variations and many useful characteristics no matter where you take it, the Toyota 4Runner is the leader in its class. Huge ground clearance will get you through rocks and ruts, with the KDSS suspension system and available low-range transfer case can "digest" any road surface that you throw at them. The forrunner is relatively capable and, as a tractor, too, can pull up to 2.2 tons. There are several 4Runner trims available for urban use, but we recommend one of the TRD models to get you off the beaten path.

Luxury Compact

#19 Acura RDX

If you're looking for a luxurious vibe without the teary price premium, then the Acura RDH is a great place to start. The richest RDX trims tend to compete with other luxury crossovers in their base trims without sacrificing comfort or mannerisms. The cabin is big enough for adults to sit comfortably in the back, and the standard V6 combines class-leading acceleration with ample fuel economy. All the luxury equipment you'd expect to find in this class is available from the RDH, and it's one of the easiest cars to drive, thanks to its size.

#20 BMW X3

Some SUV buyers expect their cars to feel massive to drive, but the BMW X3 feels more like a sports sedan than an SUV. Add to that a spacious and well-executed cabin and you have a winning recipe. The X3 is a tad overpriced than some of its similarly-equipped rivals, but if you want something that feels special no matter how you drive it, then the X3 is worth the money.

#21 Audi Q5

While it may not be particularly flashy or flashy on the outside, the 2017 Audi Q5 definitely has the right equipment where it counts. The base 4-cylinder turbo engine has enough power to keep it competitive in the class, while the optional V6 offers a bit more efficiency. The interior is assembled with top materials, with the sliding rear seat being unique feature in class. And the sporty nature of driving means you don't have to sacrifice practicality for pleasure.

#22 Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class

One of the newest vehicles in the segment, the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC is a solid performer across the board. The cabin has plenty of room for adults, both front and rear. Style and finish meet all the criteria for luxury, and the standard 4-cylinder engine is one of the best in the class for acceleration and fuel economy. The available AMG model raises the bar with a turbo V6, and the all-wheel drive offered on all models means you can find the GLC suitable for any climate. The GLC doesn't skimp on options either - you can get them of every sort, from a 14-speaker Burmester audio system to surround view cameras.

#23 Porsche Macan

The 2017 Porsche Macan is probably one of the best handling SUVs on the market today. Porsche took the virtues of flamboyant handling and applied them to the small crossover class. Everything about the Macan's interior feels like it's been borrowed from the long, illustrious history of machines like the 911 Carrera, and you can take your bike with you if you fold down the rear seats. Thanks to its rounded design and compact size, the Macan is a bit limited overall in terms of cargo capacity, but if you're looking for a driver's car in this segment, then this is it.

Lux Midsize

#24 Acura MDX

Like the smaller RDH, the 2017 Acura MDX is luxury SUV without the heavy price tag. The Acura MDX offers three rows of seats, all of which are comfortable and spacious, but be aware that the cargo area is very average. Excellent safety ratings, a quiet cabin, a smooth ride and impressive fuel economy round out the MDX's long list of practical virtues, but for a car this big size He is also very athletic.

#25 Audi Q7

No question, the facelifted 2017 Audi Q7 is one of our top class recommendations. Superb quality finishes and selection of materials make the cabin inviting from the moment you step into the car, while the supremely quiet interior on the highway ensures it's a great long-distance car. The Q7 comes standard with a turbo 4-cylinder engine, but we recommend getting a better one - a charged V6 that accelerates the Q7 from zero to hundreds in 6 seconds - an impressive figure for this class. The V6 also increases the maximum thrust from 2 tons to 3.5 tons, which is definitely strong.

#26 BMW X5

BMW X5 2017 model year is one of the most expensive cars in the class, and the volume of its trunk is less than that of the class leaders. However, we still think it's worth it to be here. Here you can choose from several different engines, including a turbo six, turbo V8, six-cylinder diesel, and even a plug-in hybrid with the ability to travel 22 km on electric power alone. As you'd expect from a BMW, there's plenty of high-tech equipment available here, such as a night vision camera system and 4-zone climate control. The X5 also comes with four years of free standard service and enough standard options to satisfy just about any driver.

#27 Porsche Cayenne

Due to its hefty size, the 2017 Porsche Cayenne may seem too big to be sporty or nimble. But, don't be fooled by this big German SUV. It's really impressive - both in a straight line and in corners. Whether you're riding a standard V6 turbo or a powerful V8 turbo, the Cayenne has more than enough fire to satisfy anyone with a heavy right foot. Whether you're aiming for the city, or trying to get out of the city, or heading for a ride through the hills, the Cayenne remains easy to drive. All the luxury features are in order too, with exquisitely crafted interiors and comfortable enough seats for any long journey.

#28 Volvo XC90

With style and sophistication throughout, the 2017 Volvo XZ90 is unique in looks and superb in motion. A common theme among our top recommendations in this class is that the XC90 drives like a much smaller car, and it also has available version with a plug-in hybrid are two parameters that give it a wide range of appeal. The second and third rows of seats have plenty of room, and as expected from a Volvo, it has the best safety ratings, including a Top score from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety due to its frontal collision avoidance system. The XC90 doesn't accelerate as fast as some of the competition and doesn't have the noise isolation of the class leaders, but it still has a lot to offer and sits high on our list.

Luxury Fullsize and Flagships

#29 Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class

Formerly known as the GL, the 2017 Mercedes GLS is as big as you can get from Mercedes. cargo vans does not count). The GLS has plenty of adult space in all three rows of seats, and there's no shortage of affordable luxury equipment here. If you fold the second and third rows of seats in the GLS, then in total there will be a terrible 2650 liters under the cargo compartment, which is competitive even in this segment. Notable options include automatic parallel parking, ventilated front seats, adaptive suspension and even a dual-range transfer case for some extra off-road prowess. And no Mercedes is truly complete as long as it has a performance-oriented AMG variant, so the GLS offers the AMG GLS 63, which comes with a 5.5-liter V8 and 577bhp.

#30 Land Rover Range Rover

One of the most iconic luxury SUVs on the market, the 2017 Land Rover Range Rover combines extreme off-road capability with a rich interior. Even if he lived his entire life in the city, the Range Rover would be impressive based solely on its smooth 8-speed transmission, quiet cabin and impeccable finishes. But no Range Rover should be demoted solely for city driving. This top-of-the-line SUV can also tackle tough trails thanks to its intelligent road response system and plenty of ground clearance to get through big rocks.

Cars in Russia off-road have gained great popularity, first of all they are valued for their excellent technical characteristics, the ability to overcome difficult sections of the road, presentable appearance. But not all cars meet the expectations of car owners, because reliable SUVs should rarely break down, have great resource engine and transmission parts, be well adapted to severe off-road conditions.

Ratings of SUV class cars are constantly published on the Internet, and completely different models are at the top of the "charts" among the best each time. The thing is that when choosing the best SUV, various criteria are taken into account - there are TOPs of budget and prestigious cars, often the list includes not only real all-terrain vehicles, but also crossovers, SUVs, a lot depends on the year of manufacture of the vehicle, engine type, economy.

TOP 10 reliable SUVs for Russian roads

Undoubtedly, that car is considered reliable, during the operation of which it is necessary to repair as little as possible. vehicle, contact a car service or a service station. The list of the best models is often compiled without taking into account cars that have been discontinued, in some cases only used cars are considered. In this TOP 10, we included SUVs that are well-deservedly popular with Russian cars mobilists regardless of the year of manufacture, mileage, cost. So, the top ten 4x4 cars include:

In the published ratings of “the most reliable SUV”, such popular models as Toyota RAV4, BMW X5, Mazda CX-7, Honda CR-V are very often found. But if you approach strictly, all these listed brands, like many others (for example, Renault Duster, Hyundai Santa Fe), belong to the class of crossovers and are not real all-terrain vehicles for a number of reasons:

  • not always equipped with all-wheel drive;
  • in many cases do not have a reduced range of gears;
  • often do not have high ground clearance, providing very good cross-country ability.

It used to be that a real all-terrain vehicle should only be frame structure, but since recently the body on the frame is becoming less and less common, according to this criterion, the type of car has ceased to be classified.

The most economical SUVs for Russia

Fuel consumption is an important indicator for a car, but the concepts of "SUV" in the true sense and "economical" are not always incompatible. In order for an all-terrain vehicle to overcome difficult road sections, it must be equipped not only with an all-wheel drive transmission, large wheels, have high ground clearance, but also have a sufficiently powerful, volumetric engine. Nevertheless, there are SUVs that are able to consume fuel quite economically, most often these are cars with small dimensions, diesel engine. Models in this category include:

  • Range Rover Evoque;
  • Jeep Cherokee XJ;
  • Chevrolet Niva;
  • Suzuki Jimny;
  • Mercedes-Benz W463.

Of course, fuel consumption depends on the type and size of the engine, it is unlikely that the Mercedes Gelandwagen will be economical if it is equipped with a five-liter power unit. But with a 2.7 L diesel engine, this car consumes fuel very, very moderately, especially on the highway and without a heavy load.

Someone may argue that there are many models that are more economical in fuel consumption, but again, these are mainly crossovers and SUVs, with small-capacity internal combustion engines and not the highest ground clearance. It should be noted that the UAZ Patriot with a diesel engine also consumes relatively little fuel if it is equipped with a ZMZ-51432 or Iveco F1A engine.

Rating of the most inexpensive SUVs with mileage

For Russia, with its sometimes impassable roads, buying an SUV often becomes an urgent need; not only hunters and fishermen buy cars, but also residents of remote villages and villages. Here the question often arises - how to buy inexpensive car, and at the same time of sufficient quality, a very limited budget makes it possible to save money. Buying a used car in this case is a very reasonable decision, although there are a lot of “pitfalls” in this option. When buying a used car, you should pay close attention to the technical condition of the vehicle, if you buy a car with serious defects, in the future you will have to invest a lot of money and your work in it.

Often a hint on which used SUV to choose can be found on car forums, drivers express a positive opinion about models:

  • Nissan Patrol;
  • Opel Frontera;
  • Isuzu Trooper;
  • Mitsubishi Pajero III;
  • Great Wall Hover;
  • Ssangyong Rexton;
  • Ssangyong Kyron (in the version with all-wheel drive).

One could also consider the Pajero II model, but it is very difficult to find such a car with a good body condition.

Russian cars UAZ, Niva in all modifications are inexpensive, but it’s hard to talk about reliability here, although in skillful hands and if you want to do repairs yourself, buying a Russian SUV is a very good option. Among domestic cars, there are also models that are in demand, with such important characteristics as excellent cross, ease of repair and maintenance, low price.

Rating of the best Russian SUVs

Russian automakers are often criticized for low quality assembly, a large number of defects, however, there are car models that have conquered not only Russia, but also the West. Although domestic SUVs are not considered the most reliable in the world, but they have unique technical characteristics, they compete with the best foreign-made all-terrain vehicles in terms of cross-country ability.

First place in the ranking of the best Russian 4x4 cars, VAZ-2121 (Lada 4x4) occupies, this model has repeatedly participated in international competitions and won such prestigious rallies as Paris - Dakar. Lada can easily overcome rough terrain, climb mountains, therefore it is rightfully considered a high-altitude car.

Second by popularity domestic SUV- UAZ-469, at the present time he has passed the baton to the no less famous "Goat" UAZ Hunter. This all-terrain vehicle can be driven through such terrain where there are no roads at all, it has amazing cross-country ability even without any lifting and installation of special mud rubber.

Third in the list of "rogues" of domestic production - UAZ Patriot, unlike the previous two models, this car can be used not only off-road, but is also well suited for city driving. UAZ has a fairly comfortable and spacious interior, not the poorest set of additional options, in rich trim levels it is even equipped with cruise control, air conditioning, a multimedia center and a preheater.

Fourth place The rating is occupied by the T-98 Kombat special vehicle, which looks like a tank with an armored body. Although the design of the machine is frameless, body elements cars are made of high-alloy steel, its armor is able to protect against bullets from a Kalashnikov assault rifle.

There are Russian SUVs that do not get into the TOP, but you should also pay attention to them. One of these cars - Derways 3131 "Cowboy", built on the platform of the Romanian model ARO, has a very aggressive appearance, has spacious interior, large trunk, differs in high landing and remarkable passability. The "Caucasian Jeep" looks like a Gelendvagen, the years of production of the model are from 2003 to 2006.

Land Cruiser 200 is one of the most reliable SUVs in the world

The Toyota Land Cruiser 200 model has been produced since 2007, it is supplied to Russia with two types of engines:

  • V-shaped turbodiesel (8 cylinders) 4.5 l;
  • petrol "eight" 4.7 l Euro-4.

Of course, the "200th" is exceptionally reliable, large and in general unpretentious car, but paradoxically, it is rarely used for heavy off-road trips, it is mainly used in the city. You can understand why this happens - this model is purchased to assert its status, and far from poor people drive such a car.

Although the Kruzak is a prestigious and expensive car, it has not only advantages, but also its drawbacks. The advantages of this machine include:

  • rich equipment even in the basic configuration;
  • huge interior and impressive size trunk;
  • good maneuverability and handling, stability on the road;
  • excellent visibility;
  • high ground clearance (230 mm);
  • soft, swallowing all the bumps suspension;
  • good sound insulation;
  • warm interior, which warms up quickly in frosty weather.

But although the LC 200 is characterized by rich equipment, high-quality finishing materials, its interior still lacks special chic, and compared, for example, with a cool Mercedes inside, it looks quite gray. Another very serious disadvantage is the high fuel consumption, especially for cars with gasoline engines, here, with dynamic driving, fuel consumption can reach 30 liters per 100 km. There are still claims from car owners to regular lighting, the quality of body painting, one of the characteristic "diseases" of the Land Cruiser 200 is weak brakes.

Features SUV Mitsubishi Pajero IV

Unlike the LC 200, Mitsubishi Pajero is not considered a brutal city car for the elite, rather it belongs to the category of "workhorses". This model has been produced since 1982, by 2018 four generations have already been released, the car has been repeatedly restyled. For Russia, the 4th Pajero is available with 3.0-liter gasoline engines (6 cylinders), with 3.2-liter turbodiesels (in-line four). The wheel drive of the SUV is a plug-in full drive, there is a center differential with a lock, a number of low gears.

characteristic Mitsubishi differences Pajero IV:

  • the quality of the interior trim is average;
  • quite stiff suspension;
  • Very good handling even off-road;
  • not too high fuel requirements.

It may seem strange, but the Pajero steering column Tilt adjustment only, no reach adjustment. In terms of reliability, controllability, visibility, and cross-country ability, car owners have no complaints about this car, and the following should be highlighted among the shortcomings:

  • not the best sound insulation;
  • high fuel consumption and poor dynamics on a car with a 3-liter gasoline engine;
  • expensive service and parts.

Even the Pajero IV is not the lowest price, but a real Japanese SUV and can not be too cheap.

Full-size SUV Range Rover L405

Range Rover in the L405 body has been produced since 2012, this is the fourth generation of this model. If at the very beginning of the 2000s, Land Rover cars were not highly reliable, then later, after 2006, the automaker corrected many shortcomings, although even now you can hear various complaints from car owners.

Range Rover is expensive and prestigious car with many advantages:

  • spacious interior with rich finishes;
  • a large number of additional options, even in the simplest configuration;
  • high level of comfort;
  • excellent maneuverability and stability on the road;
  • excellent dynamics with any type of engine;
  • good sound insulation;
  • thoughtful standard navigation.

The car is equipped with air suspension, thanks to which you can change the ground clearance, the Range Rover surpasses even BMW, Mercedes and Toyota in terms of comfort. But the SUV also has disadvantages, and in some cases they are quite serious:

  • knocks in the front suspension;
  • weak paintwork;
  • electrical problems.

Since there are a lot of electronics in the car, it can periodically fail. The electrical part is a sore point car range Rover, here you can understand the indignant car owners who bought a car for more than six million rubles, but she refuses to go.

SUV lovers are a special breed of people. They are drawn to climb in their jeep to places where you can’t always reach on foot. And it doesn’t matter that driving on asphalt in an SUV is not always comfortable, and asphalt is advancing everywhere. SUVs in cities are being replaced by crossovers, which, being outwardly similar to their brutal older brothers, are much more comfortable, elegant, but also more helpless outside the city streets. However, Russia is a large country, and there are still untouched places for extreme sports in it, where a real off-road vehicle can prove itself.

SUVs owe their appearance to the army. It was the need of the military for vehicles with increased cross-country ability that made the design idea work. Before the start of the Second World War, all-wheel drive vehicles were only in the USA, the USSR and Japan. The idea justified itself, and in subsequent years, off-road vehicles became in demand not only in the army, automakers different countries began their serial production. Today, the exterior and interior of these harsh machines are completely different, gloss, style, and comfort have been added. But the essence remains the same - patency.

The best off-road vehicles

Determining which is the most passable SUV in the world is not so easy. Exist various systems ratings, which additionally take into account various indicators: power, reliability, safety,. But, if you put cross-country ability in the first place without taking into account other characteristics, then you can rank off-road SUVs by cross-country ability. What does the TOP 10 cross-country SUVs look like?

This SUV has become iconic for its performance and stylish design. small, with short base, capable of overcoming any road difficulties, it is well equipped: two differential locks, automatic anti-roll bars, reliable axles, a convenient control system. This, combined with high ground clearance and excellent off-road tires, makes it the undisputed leader among the "rogues" and the bearer of the proud title of "the most passable jeep." Throughout its existence, this classic frame jeep has been restyled, improved, but retained the style and all its advantages. This is the best SUV in the world in terms of cross-country ability.

The excellent qualities of this jeep are evidenced by the fact that since the release (1984) all generations of Toyota 4Runner met the expectations of customers and were among the best SUVs in terms of cross-country ability. special attention deserves the Trail modification, which received a higher ground clearance, the Multi-Terrain Select system (provides off-road and road surface different type), the Crawl Control system (provides slow but reliable movement through the most difficult areas). The SUV is equipped with a rear locking differential and proprietary dynamic suspension with automatic adjustment of anti-roll bars. Jeep can be safely attributed to the best SUVs in terms of cross-country ability.

The pickup truck, which gained fame as a conqueror of the sands, in an updated form retained the brutality inherent in American cars and acquired new equipment: an “indestructible” suspension, a front differential and an “off-road” camera with a washer, which is important when driving on a bad road. At first glance, the pickup does not have a very suitable geometry, but it can move off-road at high speed. Confidently overcoming sand, steep descents and ascents, the Ford F-150 SVT Raptor has been and remains among the best SUVs in terms of cross-country ability.

The easy-to-maintain and reliable pickup truck was originally intended for hunters, but has gained popularity among other off-road riders. The most interesting is the TRD Off-Road modification, which has a higher ground clearance and is equipped with a rear locking differential, Bilstein shock absorbers and additional protective plates. Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road takes its rightful place in the ranking best SUVs by passability.

Exterior Ram Power Wagon - the embodiment of masculinity and strength. Impressive dimensions, winch, running lights on the roof - all this indicates belonging to the family of "rogues" And the presence of such important points, like a differential lock and an automatic anti-roll bar system, put it among the most passable SUVs in the world.

The SUV comes from the 90s, but still has not lost popularity due to its cross-country ability, especially in the PRO-4X version, equipped with a differential lock system. Created for outdoor enthusiasts, the car has become one of the best in cross-country ability, reliable and in demand among fans of extreme sports.

The car has a short base, high ground clearance and excellent shock absorbers. Minus - insufficient visibility. When installing the Off-Road Package (rear differential lock, additional devices in the cabin). Jeep confidently falls into the off-road cross-country rating.

For all the British inclination to make the car more elegant and even glamorous, technical Land characteristics Rover LR4 (Discovery) still remain at their best, including excellent cross-country ability. Off-road qualities provide powerful traction control system and blocker rear differential. The Jeep continues to hold its well-deserved place among the best all-terrain SUVs in the world.

Distinctive features of the car - an impressive load capacity with medium size. When equipped with an automatic transmission, a rear differential locking system is also available. The car compares favorably with high cross-country ability from more overall models of the same manufacturer, and the combination of such qualities with a high carrying capacity allows him to take his place among the best SUVs in terms of cross-country ability.

This representative of the jeep family is quite popular in Russia, and with a package of off-road options (high air suspension, protective plates, various off-road devices), he is not afraid of almost any obstacles. The Jeep is built on new platform, developed with the participation of Mercedes-Benz. Its advantages, in addition to good cross-country ability, - attractive design and adequate price.

All listed models of this TOP-10 are suitable for Russia and feel great on our roads. Concerning domestic cars, then, unfortunately, they do not fall into the cross-country rating of off-road vehicles. Both UAZ and Niva, in addition to cross-country ability, are inferior to competitors in terms of equipment, comfort, and design. However, our SUVs are popular because of the ease of maintenance and repair.

The most passable crossovers

Crossovers that behave confidently on city streets and highways, but on occasion will cope with a country road, and even off-road, exist. The need for vehicles that combine cross-country ability and comfort is great. In terms of comfort, the crossover is superior to the SUV, in terms of cross-country ability it is inferior. Crossover patency depends on several parameters:

  • geometry (departure and departure angles, wheel width);
  • high ground clearance;
  • suspension;
  • Availability all-wheel drive;
  • powerful motor, high torque;
  • reliability (the main components must withstand high loads).

A passable crossover is close to an SUV in its characteristics, but it cannot completely combine all its capabilities with comfort and respectability. However, crossovers differ significantly from each other in terms of cross-country ability. Let's try to rank and determine the best crossover crossover.

Arriving in Russia two decades ago, the crossover gained popularity due to its reliability, excellent handling in various road conditions. It has four-wheel drive, high ground clearance and an economical gasoline engine. Suzuki Grand Vitara is available in two versions: three-door (with a standard 4x4 scheme) and five-door (with a modernized transmission that allows you to block the center differential and turn it on forcibly downshift). The crossover is well equipped, repeatedly received the title and safety in its class and price segment. Suzuki Grand Vitara is the most passable crossover.

The crossover is as close as possible to the SUV, because the experience of operating the Nissan Patrol was taken as the basis for the constructs. The Nissan X-Ttail is equipped with an All Mode 4×4 all-wheel drive system. The default is front-wheel drive, and when slipping or slipping, full is turned on. Engines: two petrol with CVT or manual transmission and diesel with manual transmission. The crossover is well thought out and equipped with many useful modern options, which allows it to take second place in the list of the most passable crossovers.

crossover German concern differs, as usual, in quality, reliability and a large number of electronic systems helping the driver. Good permeability provide a system of complete xDrive AWD and new system dynamic control, which controls the operation of the transmission and chassis, allowing torque to be redirected to the wheel that has lost traction. BMW X6 is deservedly included in the ranking of the best crossovers in terms of cross-country ability.

From a technical point of view, this crossover can be attributed to cars. But a powerful engine, impressive dimensions, a ground clearance of 20 cm, permanent all-wheel drive and equipment with modern electronic assistant systems allow the crossover to cope well with off-road. Popularity contributes to a large comfortable lounge with excellent finishes. The crossover takes its rightful place in the ranking of the best crossovers in terms of cross-country ability.

This crossover is the most inexpensive among the participants in our rating. This does not mean that it is worse than its competitors, especially after restyling, which significantly improved its exterior. As for the cross-country ability of Renault Duster, it is not satisfactory. With a ground clearance of 20.5 cm, all-wheel drive, a solid suspension and good economical engines, the car perfectly overcomes descents, climbs and even water obstacles. Renault Duster is one of the most passable crossovers in the world.

The compact crossover from the company, which is mainly engaged in the production of SUVs, has not spoiled its reputation. On the contrary, since its appearance on the market (1997), it has been gaining popularity and has become, perhaps, the most massive model of the company. The off-road qualities of the Land Rover Freelander are provided by all-wheel drive and the presence of many electronic systems.

The crossover has proven itself to be spacious, comfortable and passable. Cross-country ability provides all-wheel drive, a strong engine, high torque, reliable self-leveling suspension, high ground clearance (22.5 cm).

This stylish city car feels confident on the roads. A large number of electronic assistants, a powerful engine, four-wheel drive, excellent handling and a ground clearance of 20 cm allow the Audi Q5 to drive in many places that are not suitable for an ordinary passenger car. Audi Q5 remains one of the most passable crossovers in the world.

Beautiful, stylish, off-road - this is the opinion of experts about the crossover. Permeability is ensured by sufficient ground clearance. Default - front wheel drive, with automatic connection rear wheels multi-plate electromechanical clutch, which is located on rear gear. I have an opportunity forced blocking couplings.

The last place in the ranking does not mean that something is wrong with the cross. This is the TOP 10 most passable crossovers. Mitsubishi Outlander has a high ground clearance (21.5 cm) and good motor. The All-in-Control all-wheel drive system operates in 3 modes: front-wheel drive, 4WD ECO (short-term clutch lock occurs when the front wheels slip) and 4WDO (torque is transmitted to the rear axles, divided equally between the axles). This makes the Mitsubishi Outlander an urban off-road vehicle capable of overcoming off-road conditions.

Summing up, it should be said that modern crossovers are quite capable of overcoming mud, snow, forest roads. Yes, these are not jeeps, but statistics say that less than 20% of owners of real SUVs use their iron horses by appointment.

According to research conducted by the British insurance company Warranty Direct, the most reliable crossover is
Suzuki Grand Vitara
, its unreliability index was 38 units of breakdowns per hundred cars, with a run of 59.8 thousand kilometers, 305 pounds were spent on its repair, mostly engine repairs were carried out.

The rating was compiled on the most reliable cars according to company data for fifteen years. At the same time, insurance histories of more than two hundred thousand cars were used.

Less reliable on the list Honda CR-V is coming with an index - 50 units, with a run of 77.6 thousand kilometers, 320 pounds were spent on its repair, breakdowns were associated with the electrical system of the vehicle.

Third on the list Hyundai reliability Tuccon, index - 78 units, with a run of 83.2 thousand kilometers, 309 pounds were spent on its repair, the largest percentage of breakdowns concerned the fuel system.

Further, in descending order of reliability with the main percentage of engine failures, Toyota RAV4 - engine failures, Nissan X-Trail– chassis failures, Land Rover Freelander – electrical system failures, Chevrolet Captiva – chassis failures, – engine failures, Jeep Cherokee – electrical system failures, – engine failures.

Also, Warranty Direct conducted a study of complex electronic systems breakdowns and identified, according to a database of five thousand vehicles, the ten most “breakable” European manufacturers in the category of breakdowns of complex electronic systems. So, crossovers did not get into this top ten, which is very pleasing.

Three year old crossovers

American consulting company J.D. power and Associates published a study of the most reliable car brands, with a lifespan of three years. The survey was conducted on 2010 model year vehicles over the past twelve months. It turned out to be the most reliable Lexus model, which had seventy-one breakdowns per hundred cars. Analysis of the reliability of crossovers according to the reviews of the owners.

Suzuki Grand Vitara Reliability Feature:

The car is equipped with airbags and seat belts. The straps are easy to adjust. Blocks are located in the side doors. They protect in an emergency from side impacts. In addition, Suzuki has excellent visibility along the way. At night, powerful headlights, which are equipped with reflectors, help. For Russian conditions, a strong galvanized steel body is very important. The body is covered with an anti-corrosion coating.

From the reviews of happy owners of Suzuki Grand Vitara 2.4 AT:

Off-road is unmatched. Great car.

The driver with 47 years of driving experience has operated more than 60 car models. So, Vitara among all the most optimal in all respects. Such a thing as "slip" is not for this model of car.

From the reviews of car owners about the merits of the Toyota RAV4:

The roads in the village are bad, to put it mildly. So on such roads the car rides very smoothly, it does not throw up and does not swing to the sides. Cool little thing - electric power steering, which greatly facilitates the control of the car. Large body capacity, sufficient visibility. If you need to go around the curb or park on it, it's "easy". Excellent turning angle.

Downhill grip is better than good, but the engine revs much faster on kickdown than automatic transmission the speed switch has time to settle to a lower speed.

Quite satisfied with the small size of the car. Easily overcomes rails, curbs, streams, grooves.

I have been driving a car for 2 years now, I am literally satisfied “to the point of snot”. There are no problems with spare parts, although my Toyota is no longer young, there has never been a major overhaul, 70% of spare parts are still factory. I have one problem - this is a radiator, the period of operation is 2 winters and I have to repair it or even change it.

Almost all Toyota owners RAV4 complain about poor sound insulation. This can be said to be the main drawback of the model. Soundproofing is most likely the Japanese "profukali", this applies not only to the engine itself, but also to the cabin as a whole. A good "rattle". Among technical shortcomings- problems with horizontal stability levers.

Honda Element Reliability Feature:

In both frontal and side impact testing, the Honda Element received five stars out of a maximum of five. However, in a side collision, there is a possibility that the left rear passenger's head will hit the top of the car's interior.

From the comments of Honda Element owners:

My experience of operating the Element is more than five years. So, the single biggest cost was in the fifth year of operation. The mileage of the car during my time was more than 350,000 kilometers, the total mileage was more than 400,000 kilometers. Replaced the front and rear struts, ball, silent blocks of the rear suspension and front levers, bearings rear hubs, starter brushes, stabilizer bushings, engine mounts, thrust bearing, radiator and strut mounts. Note that for a car with such an impressive mileage, only the chassis was repaired. This is an excellent example of the reliability of the car. And the operation of the car was not at all gentle. "Damn" is a good car.

However, there are many Elements that begin to "crumble" after 120,000 kilometers.

From the reviews of Honda Crosstour owners:

From interesting it is possible to note the function of control of blind zones. This function is performed by a video camera built into the side mirrors. It turns on at the same time as the turn signal is turned on. The camcorder can be left on all the time for the safety of the car. Minus the car - it's big overhangs and large radius reversal.

Summing up the above, based on official statistics and owner reviews, no doubt the best crossover in terms of reliability, you can call Suzuki Grand Vitara and behind it, or maybe even a little next, Toyota RAV4. But in any case, you “must fall in love” with the car and it will serve you for a long time and faithfully.
