Transmission honda cr v. Honda CR-V: What you need to know before buying

The automatic transmission is the most complex mechanism in any car. Owners of such cars are required to constantly pay attention to its condition. Carry out service maintenance in time, systematically change the ATF and oil filter.

According to the manufacturer's recommendation, replacement of 3 and 1 should be carried out every 30-35 thousand kilometers. But in the conditions of our terrible roads, this period is better to be halved. It is very important if you did not buy a new car, then do not try to save money, but replace the transmission fluid immediately.

Reasons indicating the need for topping up fluid in the automatic transmission or its complete replacement:

  1. Jerking while shifting gears.
  2. Kicks when you press the gas pedal.
  3. Various kinds of slippage and frequent peregazovki.

What kind of oil and how much

ATF-Z1 is a special mineral gear lubricant for automatic boxes Traditional type Honda. It was used on all cars until 2011 release. ATF-Z1 is unique and recommended for Honda automatic transmissions produced since 1995. Since 2011, cars have been operated on the new ATF-DW1 oil.

Replacing the lubricant mixture in Honda SRV 3 and 1 cars occurs in approximately the same way. The only difference is that the Honda SRV 1 will require 3.5 liters, and the Honda SRV 3 a little over 4 liters. lubricants ATF Z1 (or ATF DW-1).

Tools

  • Transmission fluid Honda ATF Z1 (or ATF DW-1) - 3.5-4l.
  • External cleaning barrier 25430-PLR-003.
  • Sealing washer plug automatic transmission, 18.5 to 25.5 millimeters - 90471-PX4-000.
  • Container for draining ATP.
  • Jack.

Replacement instructions

There is nothing complicated in changing the oil in Honda SRV 3 and 1 cars, but there are certain nuances:

Video "Changing the lubricant mixture in an automatic transmission on a Honda CRV I"

In this video, an experienced car mechanic will demonstrate the entire process of changing gear lubricant in an automatic gearbox. After viewing it, you can easily service the automatic transmission of your car yourself without wasting time and money.

The material presented by us will allow you to cope with the replacement of the ATP automatic box on your own, but if you still have questions, ask them in the comments.

The fourth generation Honda CR-V is a compact Japanese SUV that is very popular in the Russian market. The car is well in demand with an automatic transmission, which provides comfort in the city and ease of control. But in order for the transmission to always please its owner, it must be serviced in a timely manner. Fortunately, some procedures with this automatic transmission can be performed independently. For example, change the oil in the box. This procedure does not require professional skills. To do this, a set of hand tools, as well as special materials, will be enough. Let us consider in detail how to change the oil in an automatic transmission Honda CR-V 4.

The transmission fluid in an automatic transmission changes depending on the mileage. The manufacturer claims that under favorable conditions, the replacement schedule is 40-50 thousand kilometers. But in harsh operating conditions, the replacement frequency is strongly recommended to be reduced to 30 thousand km. In extreme cases, you have to change the factory oil for the first time after 15 thousand kilometers, and when buying a used car, you need to change the oil right away - it’s more reliable, safer, and more confident that the box will last as long as possible.

Should I flush the box?

Definitely worth it. Over time, the oil loses its lubricating properties and is no longer able to cool the internal components of the gearbox, which as a result overheat and wear out quickly. At the same time, dirt deposits and metal chips accumulate inside the box - a consequence of mechanical wear of parts.

Please note that some configurations of the Honda CR-V are not equipped with a removable sump, so a lot of dirt quickly accumulates in the gearbox. All this turbidity also clogs the oil filter, which also has to be changed.

If these problems are ignored for a long time, sooner or later the gearbox will become unusable. Even at the dealership, they may refuse to take on the repair of the gearbox, and they will advise you to replace the box with a new one. Therefore, you need to check and change the oil regularly, at least every 20 thousand km.

Partial oil change

This procedure is considered the most common, since it does not take much time, and it is quite enough for the gearbox to last throughout the operation of the car.

What to fill?

The most correct automatic transmission oil for the 4th generation Honda CR-V is ATF DW1. Alternatively, ATF Z1 can also be recommended.

Replacement materials

  • Tools, keys and sockets
  • Rags, gloves
  • New oil
  • New oil filter
  • Container for draining old oil

Sequence of work

  1. The engine warms up, the car is put on a flyover. Alternatively, a flyover or viewing hole is suitable
  2. Let the engine run for a minute, turn it off, then open the hood and measure the level of remaining oil in the automatic transmission
  3. At a suitable place under the bottom of the car, the crankcase must be removed to gain access to the oil filter, which must be replaced. Also in this place there is a drain plug, it must be unscrewed and the waste liquid drained into a pre-prepared pan. This must be done carefully, as hot oil can cause burns. Please note that the drain plug (for draining the oil) is unscrewed using a 3/8 square
  4. Wait until the oil has completely drained from the automatic transmission. About 3.5 liters of old oil should pour out
  5. Metal chips and dirt may remain on the drain plug, it must be cleaned with a special WD-40 compound. In addition, there is an aluminum washer in the plug, it should also be replaced with a new one.
  6. Install the plug in place, and proceed to fill in new gear oil. To do this, you need a hose or funnel. Alternatively, a special syringe will do. A hose should be connected to it, which, in turn, should be inserted into the filler neck, after removing the dipstick from it. Note that the new fluid must be filled in as much as the old oil has flowed out.
  7. It's better to underfill oil a little than overfill it. You can top up later, after starting the engine. Then a control measurement is made, and the liquid is added as needed. Some craftsmen believe that the oil should be at a level between the Max and Min marks on the dipstick - this is considered the most optimal level.
  8. After a week, you can measure the fluid level again

If your question about the impressions of ownership is answered - "I don't know what impressions this car gives me" and something like that, then it is almost certainly a question. But don't worry. This does not mean that this crossover is bad and not worth buying. So what do you need to know if you're considering buying a Honda CR-V? Don't worry, we will tell you everything you want to know about this car under the new heading "".

Many people who have purchased a Honda CR-V crossover are generally satisfied with their purchase even after the expiration of the factory warranty. This indicates the reliability of the car after three years of operation and after a run of about 100 thousand kilometers.

In addition, this car is comfortable and quite economical for its class. Honda is ready to offer its customers the reliability of transportation in any weather and will not let you down in difficult times. But, nevertheless, like any car, the CR-V has several problems with the short life of some parts. But this is again a dubious minus, given the fact that, by 50,000 km, it can hardly be called reliable.

Also, for many, the Honda badge attached to the car is already the main reason to buy this particular car. After all, the products of this brand are loved and respected all over the world.

EXAMPLES OF RECENT WORK

In the event of a major overhaul, the gearbox is dismantled from the vehicle. At this stage, the mechanic carefully inspects the condition of all systems serving the gearbox, power unit mounting supports, etc.

After dismantling from the car, the automatic transmission enters the overhaul site. It should be noted that in this section, as well as in all the previous ones, experienced craftsmen who have a higher technical education (engineering and physics) work. Here, the automatic transmission Honda srv is being repaired, and after washing and drying all the parts, their fault detection is carried out, i.e. the possibility of further use of each part or the need to replace it is determined.

If desired, any customer can be present both during the disassembly of the gearbox and during the inspection of its parts. At the end of this procedure, a list of replacement parts is compiled, which is then necessarily agreed with the customer. It should be especially noted that during the overhaul, it is necessary, regardless of the condition of the automatic transmission, to replace all seals and gaskets. The use of original spare parts only from manufacturers of gearboxes increases the service life of a remanufactured Honda CR-V automatic transmission, but leads to a significant increase in the cost of spare parts. To achieve the most optimal combination of “price-quality” ratio allows the use of “aftermarket” parts, i.e. companies specializing in the production of spare parts for automatic transmissions.

Installation is made taking into account all technical requirements. At this stage, the failed fastening elements and auxiliary transmission maintenance systems are replaced. In addition, during installation, preliminary adjustments are made to the elements of the external part of the control system.

Output diagnostics and running-in of the car. They are carried out according to the same methods as the input diagnostics. In addition, all previously appeared fault codes are erased from the memory of the control unit.

Honda TsRV cars of the 3rd generation are equipped with 2 types of gearboxes - a mechanical six-speed and a five-speed "automatic", which is quite reliable if it is serviced in a timely manner. Changing the oil in the machine is a simple and fairly cheap procedure. Let's see how the professionals do it.

When to change automatic transmission fluid

The oil in the Honda automatic transmission is changed by mileage - there is no reference to the years of operation. It doesn’t matter that it is light and does not smell like burning, it does not precipitate - it will always be like this, but it will begin to lose its properties closer to 40 thousand km. Hence the recommendation - to replace every 30 thousand km. If the car is used in difficult conditions, the fluid is changed more often (every 15-20 thousand km), but partially.

If you do not follow the rules, you will soon have to repair the box.

When buying a car from hand, the oil should be changed immediately, no matter how the previous owner assured you that “he just changed it.”

What kind of oil to fill

By design, automatic transmissions of Honda cars differ from boxes from other manufacturers. The parts are made of materials that can withstand high loads and temperatures.

Otherwise, the box is unlikely to live up to the 50,000th run. Other oil is not able to maintain its properties at high temperatures - it will simply boil.

What you need

The procedure can be performed if there is a lift, pit or overpass.

You will need:

  • ATF DW1 fluid (four liters);
  • set of tools;
  • container for draining the waste liquid;
  • new aluminum washer under the drain plug;
  • funnel or large syringe with hose and gloves.

Replacement procedure

Engineers of the manufacturer claim that on Honda SRV cars, the oil change in the automatic transmission should be done differently - not like on other cars.

To pump under pressure a large amount of "transmission" - only harm the box. The Honda automatic transmission design has the following features:

  • there is no removable pallet, which makes it impossible to clean it from wear products of rubbing parts. If you try to pressure wash the box, all the dirt will move into the filter;
  • The filter is also non-removable. To clean it, you need to disassemble (and then correctly assemble!) Almost the entire box, which is very expensive.

When flushing, the filter will become clogged with slag, which will disable the automatic transmission. Due to clogging, an increase in oil pressure occurs at the inlet of the system, but there is no longer pressure at the outlet of it. The car will not even budge or will move at high speeds. If you observe this, get ready for an expensive automatic transmission repair.

At some Russian service stations, they are very fond of telling tales about the complex procedure for changing the oil in an automatic transmission of a Honda SRV 3. Service stations are trying to “tear off” money for the purchase of 15 or more liters of liquid.

It is optimal for the third generation Honda CR-V automatic transmission to partially change the fluid - in this case, only 4 liters will suffice:

  • warm up the car and the box to operating temperature, place it on a lift, over a pit or on a flyover;
  • stop the engine, open the hood, wait 5 minutes. Then check the level with the dipstick. If there is a shortage, add to the upper mark through the dipstick hole (at its upper mark). Do not put the probe back;
  • wait another 10 minutes (for the liquid to cool) and look for the automatic transmission drain hole. If protection is installed, it will have to be dismantled. The plug is located to the right of the car's engine near the wheel. Clean it of dirt with an iron brush;
  • place an empty container with a volume of at least 4 liters under the cork. An empty 5-liter bottle of water or washer will do;
  • using a ⅜ square, carefully unscrew the cork almost to the end;
  • now put on gloves and completely unscrew the cork without dropping it into the container;
  • let the oil drain completely. A little less than 3.5 liters should flow out;
  • then clean the magnetic part of the cork from chips. Be sure to replace the old plug sealing washer with a new one;

  • measure the amount of leaked oil. So you will know how much new fluid needs to be poured;
  • put the plug back in place;
  • Let's move on to filling. Insert a funnel or hose with a syringe at the end into the hole in the gearbox dipstick, fill in the liquid, how much was drained. It is important not to pour ATF, it is better to add a little later than to pump out the excess;

  • start the car and warm up the power unit to operating temperature. Together with it, the automatic transmission will also warm up;
  • switch gears of the box, lingering in each position for 5-10 seconds;
  • stop the engine and wait about 10 minutes. Now measure the level, add fluid if necessary.
There are opinions that the liquid level should be at the maximum mark or in the middle. And so, and so it will be right, the main thing is not to overfill.

For a complete oil change, three partial changes should be performed approximately one week apart. You will have to buy about 12 liters of ATF.

CR-V2

The procedure is exactly the same. Only the amount of oil differs: the total volume is 7.2 liters. With a partial replacement, 3.1 liters are drained.

CR-V4

Changing the automatic transmission oil in a Honda SRV 4 is absolutely the same. With a run of 90 thousand km, the external filter of the automatic transmission also changes. Original number 25430-PLR-003.

There is nothing complicated in the procedure for changing the oil of a Honda CR-V automatic transmission of any of the generations - if the car service charges an impressive bill for this procedure, refuse and look for a more honest service station.
